This is a cute spot in lake Charles located on the 2nd floor of a building. The fried oysters were good but they sat on top of pork belly pieces and the pork belly was dry and overcooked. My husband really enjoyed his steak frites and I had the chicken Caesar salad and enjoyed my meal. The chicken was delicious. However, the meal came out on big pieces of whole romaine lettuce. I wish they had chopped up the romaine lettuce beforehand. Their fries are amazing. Food portions are pretty big. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. I plan to come back.
This place is so delicious! The hubs spotted it on Yelp and immediately fell, hard for Calla. Do much so, we visited twice in one week. Christiano was a fantastic server and took great care of us. The menu is innovative and the flavors are on point. The steak frites and fried oysters are great, the sea bass and beef shank specials were literally to die for. And I would be remiss, if I didn't give a major shout out to the greatness that resides in both the beef and chopped salads. They're incredible. The cocktails are crafty and well made to boot. The brownie in a cup dessert was my personal favorite, but the nutty cheesecake is surprisingly light and delicious also. All in all, Calla's got it all going on and you can't miss it. Cheers!
This was our second time dining at Restaurant Calla on vacation. We had Alex as our server, and she was amazing! She was very attentive, and all of her recommendations were spot on. Our food was hot, fresh, and delicious. We had bread, and blue crab beignets for appetizers and the short ribs as our entree's. She made my boyfriend's birthday dinner super special. We will definitely be returning again in the future.
Calla was great! The food was well prepared and delicious. I got the fresh catch Gulf Snapper and boy it was really fresh! I eat a lot of fish and I can tell when it is fresh... that being said it was on par to GW Fins which is the best standard for restaurant prepared fish. The crab cakes were also excellent and made we wonder why have I had so so many bad ones in New Orleans??? I liked that they were pan seared not fried!! And the sauce...OMG. That to me is how you prepare crab cakes.The Fig Cake was also fantastic even though I got it to go... I ate it for three days and it held up great-very moist and tastey, I am a big fan of anything fig!
Went here on a business dinner with some colleagues and everything was fantastic. It was several years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I had this strawberry ganache and it was plated beautifully. This dessert was so gorgeous that I didn't even want to eat it but I definitely did. I remember the chef coming over to our table and introducing himself and thanking us for the compliments. I haven't been back since and I'm not really sure why but it may be because this restaurant is crazy expensive! A burger costs about $22! But the vibe, the food, and the employees made it all worthwhile. I'm leaving a picture of that mesmerizing ganache for all to see!

In town for second night and in search of a new place I used YELP. Calla came up with interesting reviews so off to Calla we went. The restaurant is on the second floor of a small French revival styled building in a mixed residential /commercial subdivision. Needless to say it's an attractive community, clean and nicely landscaped with other businesses worth trying Once we arrived by elevator to the second floor we chose outdoor eating. In door looked comfortable but the outdoor is great. The screened in porch keeps away bugs, it's heated with fans also and has soft theme lighting Our server Camille took good care of us. Calla has an excellent lineup of custom cocktails but I went with wine We started with the wedge salad, a nice portion of a head of iceberg lettuce with cherry tomatos, pickled red onion and instead of bacon they do thick cut pork lardons The pickled onions and lardons were a great twist on a wedge salad and the blue cheese dressing had the proper punch to it - definitely homemade. We also had the assortment of house breads a piece of foccaccia , olive rosemary and sourdough with two custom butters . The bread was good but note although it's custom it's not alot and it's considered an appetizer so your gonna pay for it where other restaurants may offer it complimentary For entrees we had the fish of the day, redfish with crab meat and an herb sauce - I thought this was excellent my guest would have preferred it less dressed to appreciate the fish more : tomato/potato to each their own I went with a handheld - the crispy chicken. Sandwich with honey Sriracha sauce, picked red onions, pickles, bacon strips and a sub on the side ...macaroni and cheese instead of fries. DANG. . One of the more memorable sandwiches I've had. Chicken breast was juicy and perfectly fried crispy- piping hot. Sriracha and pickled onions had that sweet and sour punch - this Sandwich size was the FULL PORTION. Mac and cheese side was SO savory. Hot and just cooked to order it too came with lardons - high end custom Mac and cheese for sure Great restaurant with little to pick on I would definitely visit again
Finally made it back to try dinner menu. Everything was great. Bone marrow tartare was outstanding! What a fantastic way to pair marrow. So good hope they keep that on their menu. Had the iberico pork and it was also delicious. Bone was bigger than the meat but still plenty. Tried the oysters which were fried crispy and the onions and jalepenp were great mix. The truffle pasta dish was great. The burger was so good would like to have a fully loaded one. Just everything we ordered was great. Look forward to coming back
Lovely find. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Christiano took amazing care of us, even anticipated things we needed before we even asked. Hubby had the stuffed quail and I had the mushroom truffle pasta, sharing the seasonal vegetables topped with Barrera, amazing!!! Such a friendly and welcoming space.
I suggest making reservations. Food and service were excellent. Bar service was also very good. I had filet and it was cooked to perfection. Hubby had red fish and was also excellent.
Literally so good!! Pics & food were awesome! Went for our friends birthday and had a great time! The food was really big portions also! My friend and I got the loaded fries and chicken sandwich. We split and still had left overs! We sat outside and the weather was beautiful! Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us constantly! She also made great recommendations which made our experience even better. We also got drinks (not pictured). I'm pretty sure it was called the Lavender Vanilla Mimosa. I could drink 10 of them they were so good! Not super strong but just right! We also got another drink (purple color, I forgot the name) it was delicious but the Lavender Vanilla Mimosa was better!!!!
My time at Calla wasn't as impressive as I hoped. We aimed for a light lunch, ordering a stuffed quail, two appetizers, and a dessert for our group of four. The quail turned out very rare, and when I asked, the waitress said that's how it's meant to be, which was a letdown since I've had quail cooked differently before. The appetizers, especially the crab beignets, were the highlights--they were really good. The dessert, brownies, was so messy in plating but came in a big portion. One great thing was the friendly staff, and the place looked clean and well-kept.
Pleasantly surprised with this restaurant! It is upscale, and looks like a great place to have date night. Unfortunately, we were there on a Saturday afternoon, so it wasn't all that romantic. We were literally the only table in the place. No one else. That tends to make me nervous, but we pursued. I ordered the charcuterie board, and Mike ordered the Chicken Focaccia sandwich. The food took A LONG TIME (like ~30 minutes) to get to us, especially considering we were the only ones there. Once the food arrived, however, I understood. They are making everything from scratch and to order. My charcuterie board had three amazing meats. The pork belly/bacon was still warm. The cheeses were equally as tasty, especially the truffle cheese. Mike's sandwich was super tasty and looked yummy. He said it was as good as it looked. Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. We're thinking about going back there tomorrow for Sunday brunch! read more

Such a cute spot. The place had an outdoor patio area that was surrounded by a sheer netting, giving you the feeling of sitting outside, but without bugs or direct sunlight. It was air-conditioned with fans everywhere and made you feel like you were sitting in an outdoor garden. The staff was very kind and helpful, and the food was excellent. The short ribs were perfectly seasoned, and so were the potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I'd highly recommend this place and plan on going back when I'm back in town. read more

Heard about Calla through a popular Reddit thread for Lake Charles. We enjoyed our first drink, the Cucumber Martini. Would not recommend the blue crab beignets- lacked flavor. Redfish entree was super small for the $$. Mushroom pasta and Cheesecake off menu was great! Overall 6/10. read more

Calla is a small, elegant restaurant on the second floor of a building. It is clean and more on the high-end of casual dining. The front desk and servers were polite and helpful with menu suggestions. Although there aren't a lot of menu options, the couple of items we ordered did taste good! A couple of us got an off-the menu item which was the Seafood gumbo that had lump crab, tender venison, a piece of duck, and a piece of sausage. The roux was very rich and flavorful! This spot is a little on the pricier side, but I do recommend. My dish was about $25 for a bowl. read more

We stumbled upon this place and I'm so glad we did! The ambiance is amazing if you like that intimate upscale but country living vibe. The music is amazing and definitely helps to set the tone. Our server was extremely patient and explained the concept of the restaurant as well as other local vendors that they partner with. It felt good to eat and support a home grown business! The food was fresh and light! The steak was seasoned well and an extremely tender. The fish was also! We even opted to try dessert. I just wish the hot was a little hotter temperature wise, other than that this was a great visit. read more

Stopped in here for a late lunch on a Wednesday. I had the Mushroom & Truffle Pasta. The scallops were perfectly cooked, the ingredients were balanced and the sauce and flavors were delicious. I will definitely go back and I can't wait to try more things on the menu. read more

We have been wanting to try Calla for awhile so glad we finally got to experience it. My husband got their burger (boring, I know) but he said he liked it. Their pasta was so delicious and love how they let me make changes to it. Did not enjoy their brownie. It was so dry and it seemed like they add ice cream to mask the dry brownie and it did not work. Hated how the presentation was nice but the taste was awful. Their hummus board was underwhelming. I'm sure the veggies are suppose to be cold but there was no flavor. Just a couple of grill marks to show it was cooked. I wish they had the option to just order the flatbread and hummus at a lower price because the veggies were not good . Loved our service, aperol spritz was great, we will be returning. read more

Whenever I'm in Lake Charles, I'll be at Calla! It's a great place, away from the casinos and the hustle and bustle of the freeway traffic. I discovered this jewel a few years ago, and I've been in love ever since! On our last visit, we had the loaded fries, the halibut, and the short ribs. No complaints here. Well, one thing that would have made it all better: white rice with the etouffee. Regardless, everything was as promised and delivered with a smile. The server even made a special stomach-repair drink for my beau. I had the cocktail called the Doctor's Order, and I've been right ever since The restaurant itself is very cozy. There are booths, small tables, and a quaint bar, whatever suits you. Be sure to reserve your spot on Spot On on busy days. read more

5/5 Food Ambiance Service This place is amazing. I haven't ventured out in Lake Charles in a long time. This place is a gem. Everything we had was worth every bite. The waiter was knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. We sat outdoors and got to experience this ambiance. Very serene. We also had the calla burger and short ribs. All delicious. read more
