While driving thru LC we decided to stop here for lunch on a Saturday based on a recommendation from my brother. Crowd was light and we were able to sit on the screened in porch. We started with the Crab Beignet's which were over the top good. Next we had a few drinks . . . . Cucumber Martini and a Tanqueray & Tonic for me. The drinks were so good we ordered another round. My wife told me the last time she had a martini that good was at a roof top bar in Chicago. Next were the lunch entree's . . . We both got the Chicken Sandwich which was excellent. Service was good - our server gave us some recommendations on the martini and appetizer. Excellent restaurant and we will stop here again when we are in LC again. read more

The bar sucks! They don't stock common brands like Grand Marnier, Ciroc, and many other delicious libations. The male bar tenders seems to think their own choices of liquors and mixed drinks are better or sell more than other establishments, they are not and they don't. Extraordinary Food and Service. The Porch was cooled and shaded but allows fresh air to draft through. For an appetizer, the charcuterie was tasty but I found it a touch skimpy. The perfectly seasoned Ribeye cooked Medium was more tender and juicy than the Medium Rare Veal I had at another Restaurant the previous night. The side of asparagus was as good as asparagus gets. The "Hotel Callafornia" cocktail was so good I asked for another. Despite some of my criticisms, Calla is absolutely in the tier of the finest restaurants in Louisiana. read more

Menu was small but they evidently work on making those items perfect. My wife had the flank steak which was pretty good but nothing to cheer about. She loved the Brussels sprouts. Wonderful presentation, intimate atmosphere, and fantastic service. Great place for a date! Loved loved loved the chips, sea scallops, and banana beignets with custard. These were probably the highlights of our meal. I can never resist fresh chips and these were nice and crisp! The sea scallops were absolutely delicious. Definitely get it if you like scallops. I love capers, but they were too distracting for the overall flavor of the dish. The banana beignets were such a nice way of finishing off there night. It tasted amazing and the accompanying custard was velvety smooth. As for entrees, the calla burger was very underwhelming. It was just very boring and plain. If I go back, we'll get the tacos instead. The fries here are very good though. The crawfish and shrimp pasta had a very nice cajun pasta profile. It's pretty filling so I got to have it as leftovers the next day which is always a plus! We live brussel sprouts, but we didn't love it here. They did an Asian style to it. Interesting approach, but didn't work with us unfortunately. While I enjoyed Calla, it's very expensive for what their dishes are. My highlights were a mandolined potato, scallops, and fried bananas with an amazing custard. It's sad that the appetizer and dessert were the things that actually stood out in this meal. I will dish money for good food, and while they provide a wonderful dining experience, overall meal quality/flavor profile to price point isn't worth it to me. Scallops are worth it though. If you haven't been here, you need to. This place is fantastic. I found myself incredibly pleased with this option. I expected it to be "this is good for Lake Charles" good, but instead found it to stand toe-to-toe with some of the better restaurants of cities that are in an entirely different league. The vibe is upscale casual, complete with dim lighting inside and a screened-in porch outside. It's adorable. But the food is far beyond adorable. That Calla Burger is easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. I know, I know, I hate when things are overhyped! Tell yourself it'll be awful so you can truly appreciate how well this thing is crafted. They serve it for lunch, but began limiting the amount they'll permit for dinner (just ten for the night!) so get there early and snag you one. You will not regret it. Their blue crab beignets are insanely delicious. The group I went with could not stop talking about them. Definitely a highlight. Cheeseboards are creative. Cocktail selection is great - points for having references to Game of Thrones, of course! I had the Chupacabra, which was damn good. I've been twice so far, and definitely look forward to returning again. Hopefully, one of those ten burgers will be waiting for me! read more

We were so excited to try this restaurant. The reviews are GREAT! However we have had a less than stellar experience. We sat at our table for almost 30 minutes and nobody came to our table to just give us water. I had to go to the reception desk to ask for water. Once we were able to place our order, we asked for bread. It came - but there was no butter. Again, I went and asked for butter. A server came and rudely put butter on our table, saying nothing to us. The food - is great and our server is very friendly and super busy. If there are a lot of people, it gets very loud. When my LC friend brought me to this location, I was really confused. I never did see any signage that this was a public establishment. But it's a lovely bar/restaurant in a new set of buildings. I ordered an old fashioned which was tasty although their choice of bourbon (Tin Cup) was a bit raw. My friend had a couple of draft beers while we caught up and shared a cheese plate. Everything was fine. And the bartenders were mostly busy with their buddies/regulars. Our second visit today at lunch. I ordered the short rib dish again. I got maybe 3 bites of meat the rest was all fat. very disappointed. My spouse ordered the hamburger with NO cheese. It came with cheese. Waiter offered to take it back but our wait had already been long enough with no one there. They did not even offer to take anything off the ticket. Definitely not one of the restaurants in Lake Charles that I would visit a second time. It's a small restaurant with limited parking and a small menu. It was priced decent, the food just was mediocre. After having to fight parking then take an elevator up to reach the restaurant I was expecting it to be nicer and the food to be better. read more

Went to Calla on Thursday and had the tomato salad as an appetizer. It is probably one of the best things I've ever eaten and I don't say that lightly. Since then I've brought it up in conversation to everyone I've talked to. I even went again two days later that Saturday to have it again and it still lives up to the hype.
