A late night craving turned into one of the best burgers I've had in town. This right here is what a burger is suppose to look like, big, juicy, and full of flavor. Cooked perfectly with a side of steak fries and a nice pickle crunch. This picture doesn't give this meal any justice on the size of this thing. First time eating at this diner. Service was amazing our server was very nice and polite and helpful with questions that we had. inside it does look like an old-time diner, which was pretty cool and cozy. It is minimum seating so we did have to wait a little bit, which is totally fine with us. Food came out perfect of what we ordered for breakfast and the food was delicious. We popped in for some breakfast and a cup of coffee, and we really enjoyed the cozy old-school diner atmosphere! The coffee was hot and absolutely delicious. I tried the KD special (small) with one scrambled egg with cheese, bacon, grits, and a biscuit. The grits were tasty but could use a pinch more salt for my preference. My husband went for the large KD special, which came with two eggs over hard, crispy bacon, hash browns, and toast. The bacon was just perfect! The service was fantastic too. It is seldom that I give anything but upscale dining 5-stars however, in this case I had to make an exception! Hole-in-the-wall and greasy spoon always gets my attention and this time it did NOT disappoint. If there is not a table available in this small, limited seating establishment you might have to stand a few minutes but totally worth it. Luckily, the regulars don't spend too much time "camping" after their meal at this coveted establishment and seem to respect those patiently waiting. We were second in line when the parking lot was full and waited under 5 minutes. Our server "Jaden" was attentive and quick to greet us and get our drinks but did not rush us. The food was hot and delivered from the kitchen very, very quickly and my over-medium eggs were cooked to perfection! The gravy was delicious, the bacon crisp and cooked evenly. The stand-out show-stopper was the biscuits!!! Melt-in-your-mouth luxuriousness! My husband and I will usually share a breakfast since neither of us like to eat early however, this is one time I am glad I had my own. This Lake Charles staple is open 24-hrs. KD's in my opinion is the best breakfast spot around town for many reasons , the American dinner ambiance is quite cozy , also the food quality is great , the coffee is always hot , the service is always efficient and friendly, you don't have to wait a long time for your food either and orders are always accurate . Super cute atmosphere. It's an old building, but clean and kept with lots of personality. The bathrooms were very clean and tiny. The weight staff are very friendly, pleasant and attentive. This is a small homey, hole in the wall business. The ambience is very casual and mostly locals. There is limited outdoor seating if interested. The service at first wasn't too great but only because it was very busy when we arrived and it seemed everyone working here had attitudes. The restroom was in horrible condition with no soap, paper all over the floor and just nasty. Our waitress finally changed her demeanor and it ended up being great. We weren't rushed at all after things calmed down and I did understand that they were very busy and it's a small place but that's job security. They were shorthanded and are hiring if interested. The gumbo here is absolutely amazing with lots of fresh chicken meat and sausage. I only ordered a cup because I was afraid I would not eat it all. I also ordered the small breakfast. I am one to always have leftovers to go but not here this time. I ate everything except half of the biscuit and half a slice of bacon. Everything tasted so fresh and good. Kudos to the cook. First, this is a real flipping diner, worth the wait. No wait list, you stand outside the door and wait for a table. It's not a big place, probably less than 15 tables. They should take out the video poker area and make more tables available. IMHO. The menu is awesome, fantastic prices, I mean legit fantastic. I ordered the Rafferty, I don't have a clue what it is, but I saw other yelpers suggest it, so why not? Hubby ordered an omelette. Tables turn quick and there is outdoor seating and counter seating. This looks like a local hot spot for sure. This place is very much what I remember as a diner as a kid, including a payphone and ads on the table top. The food arrived and everything was very good, fantastic, can't say enough about the food. Highly recommend the Rafferty, but I would add toast if you order. The drawback was our server Rebecca, after she dropped off the food she never came back fight multiple attempts to fly her down we never got her. I ended up flagging down another service and he helped us. All I wanted to do is order some toast to go with my delicious Rafferty, but Rebecca never came back by. We were in town trying not to lose too much money at the casinos and we were sick of casino food prices. I found this gem on Yelp after driving around for a while and seeing some pretty sketchy places. When we arrived, we were greeted by one of the servers and told to seat ourselves at a clean table. Seeing as we had never been, I asked questions about the menu and what the recommendations were. I chose the kd's southern chicken based off the waitresses recommendation. It was a pile of crispy hash browns covered in pieces of chicken, white gravy, a biscuit, and topped with bacon and sour cream. Now I am a gravy lover, but I will say it was a little over the top. I enjoyed it overall, but would have liked a little less gravy and a little more chicken. The portion was huge, the food was hot, fresh, and cooked to order, and the biscuit was fluffy and delicious. The hubs got a simple breakfast and he really enjoyed it. (I can't remember exactly what he ordered). Although our waitress was nice, she disappeared a little while after we arrived with some guy and we never saw her again. Although someone took over for her and it was fine. What was really cool is you could tell there were a lot of regulars and several of the people who came in to eat knew other people who were eating there. It is always popular with police officers and students, which to me, is always a good sign. The food is simple fare, but well prepared. There are some signature dishes, and of course a daily special. Coffee was mandatory, just like every other day. Coffee was smooth & mellow in taste, but had plenty of caffeine to put the morning in gear. Eggs were done as ordered. They were over hard with just a touch of crisping around the edges. Grits were good in flavor. They benefitted from a dab of butter and a few shakes of salt & pepper. Only demerit would be that there were a couple good size lumps in it. Not super hard lumps, but stiff enough to register. The biscuit was filling, tender yet dense to the tooth, with decent flavor. Time for a KD's update. Was just in a couple weeks ago and as always, nothing has changed. That's what I love about this place. Everything you order is delicious and KD's is synonymous with home for me. I ordered the southern chicken on hash browns which is a pile of hash browns covered in chicken, white gravy, cheese, bacon bits, and sour cream with a biscuit on the plate as well. The waitress thought I was nuts for ordering butter for my biscuit, but I still got it nonetheless. Yes, I know it's covered in gravy. But I still butter it. Sue me. Or join me in my buttery, gravy-smothered wasteland because I could seriously live in this restaurant and not get bored. Pro-tip: Go at off times and there's no wait. 2 or 3 pm and there's usually only 1 patron in there when I cross the threshold. Also, tip your server bc they work damn hard. read more

Went here few days ago for breakfast w/the girlfriend and the only reason I'm giving it a low score was bc the service was horrible. I understand that it was busy but you can still acknowledge your customer regardless of how busy you are. After we got our table, it took them bout 5/10 minutes to serve us while customers who sat after us had a waiter. And after they took our order , we never saw anybody come to assist us until we paid our tab at the counter. As for the food, it was good, we ordered breakfast, so it's kind of hard to mess that up (even though you can). Can't complain about the price either, pretty cheap. It appears that management has gone through great lengths NOT to clean the place. There's decades of uncleanliness built up. But I proud myself in my adaptability, so I remained for the rest of the show. At 3pm in the afternoon, I wasn't in the mood for breakfast, so I ordered the grill chicken salad. The waitress failed to tell me it came in ex-small only. The chicken had been on the grill since yesterday, but the other ingredients were perfect!
