Swamp

I was looking for a place to link up with my cousin halfway between Alexandria and Lake Charles. This was the perfect "pit stop" right on the highway. Upon walking in, I instantly fell for the very Louisiana decor! LSU and Swamp decor lined every corner of the room. It took me a bit of time to select my meal since the menu had a nice amount of seafood, chicken, burger options, and sides. Since it was crawfish season, I decided on a crawfish Poboy with red beans and rice on the side. The crawfish on the Poboy was plentiful to the point where I took half home to snack on later. The crawfish were perfectly seasoned with Fausto's namesake seasoning and had the right amount of crisp along perfectly cooked Poboy bread. The red beans and rice gave me all the feels and memories of a childhood comfort meal. The staff was super friendly, brought our food out to us, and even though we spent quite a bit of time there catching up and joking around, they continued to make sure we had everything we needed! I will definitely be sure to make this a go to spot to grab and geaux food or hang out when I'm in the area!

The service was fast and very professional. I ordered the shrimp sandwich and made two meals out of the food!

Some of these reviews are really missing the mark. This place is incredible. Don't miss it if you're in the area. Authentic. Delicious. Friendly. Great atmosphere. 10/10 will be here again.

Old-fashioned dining room. Chef Robert Irvine wouldn't believe his eyes!

i had to go into town, so I stopped by on a Monday afternoon, taking a break from a 2 1/2 day casino getaway. The restaurant had a good variety of customers including local businessmen, older couples, local firefighters etc. I saw very inconsistent enforcement of Covid safety regulations, including haphazard mask and glove-wear by employees. I also got super-grossed out watching one of the female staff members change two large garbage bags in one of the dining rooms. I'd also seen the same employee expediting food, filling the ice maker, and wiping down tables. Please. Praying she washed her hands. The place is old. There's no telling what is in the carpet, and who knows the last time the place got a good dusting or wipe down. It screams for a 'Restaurant Impossible' remake. Half the sodas were not available on the self-serve fountain. That being said, the food was really good!! It had that home-cooked family flavor. Exactly what you'd expect. I ordered the Large Fried Oyster Dinner. I almost couldn't finish the serving of oysters. The baked potato was hot, fluffy, and buttery. I usually only eat a couple of forks of coleslaw and this time I finish the whole dish. The roll was a disappointing small, stale, afterthought. I noticed some pre-portioned desserts on the cashier counter. I regret not picking one for a snack later. I bet they were very good. I come to the Coushatta Casino Resort about once a month lately. I'm sure I'll stop by Fausto's again because that fried chicken looked and smelled terrific. I can't believe they don't serve fried chicken livers!

Best oyster and crawfish Po Boy I've had anywhere! After leaving Coushatta my husband and I were hungry and this was one of the few places open after 9pm. On a whim we thought why not? You order at the counter and they bring you your food. Prices were very reasonable. $12 for a crawfish or oyster Po Boy is a bargain especially after New Orleans prices. Each sandwich comes with a side of fries. They accidentally brought my husband a fried shrimp Po boy instead of the crawfish one he ordered. In return they told him to enjoy the shrimp one and at the end brought him his crawfish Po boy wrapped up to go. Very nice folks working here. You can tell they care about their customers. And the sandwiches? Delicious and overflowing with shrimp/crawfish/oysters. Bread was firm yet soft with that slight crisp on the outside. Fausto's will be a stop on every trip to Coushatta from here on out!

Fried Shrimp Platter

Stopped in for lunch and I wasn't impressed. There's a lot of fun decor on the walls and a giant gator when you walk in and plenty if seating. You order at the counter and your food is brought to your table. No waitstaff. You get your own drinks, etc... Onto the food. I had the fried shrimp platter. It can be ordered in a small or large potion and comes with bread, coleslaw and 1 side. I opted for the small with fries. The shrimp are large, takes about 2-3 bites to eat one. The portion was good and the flavor was good, however, the breading falls off of the shrimp easily. Most the breading was on my plate and in my tarted sauce. I had to piece together the breading and shrimp. The fries were ok. Overall there wasn't anything to boast about. I

One of my favorite legit Cajun restaurants that isn't way down south! Yes, it is counter service, and a lot of reviews knock this place due to the set up, but on food alone this place excels. Everything I've ever had (and I've tried 90% of the dishes over the years) has been great. The gumbo is huge and packed with more seafood than I've ever been served at another restaurant. On one occasion out of probably 9-10, it was too spicy for my taste. I'll allow them an off day since I've been dozens and dozens of times and it's virtually always been awesome. The burgers are monstrous and messy and even better with some of the house seasoning sprinkled over the patty. Fries are good, but the onion rings are crazy good--thick, lots of breading, tender onions and good flavor. The fried chicken is really really good also, always fresh and hot and great, tender pieces bursting with flavor. I have had better fried fish elsewhere, but the shrimp is awesome. Try something new and you might find a new favorite.

Everytime I visit Coushatta I have to stop by Fausto's for some good ole southern seafood. They currently have a special going on which is the seafood platter served with 2 pieces of fried catfish, 2 jumbo fried shrimp, fries, and coleslaw all for $9.99! Not only do you get quality at Fausto's but you also get quantity. The fried catfish is some of the best catfish that I've ever had and the shrimp and huge! They have a really good flavor to them and it's always fresh and hot which is a must for me. I would also like to add that as a Pescatarian, the red beans and rice do not have any meat in them which I enjoy. If you are ever in Kinder Louisiana you must stop by and try and Fausto's for some delicious seafood!

Too hot in restaurant to enjoy the meal. Good food besides that. Fish is better than chicken.

It reminded me of the kind of restaurants I grew up with as a kid in a small town. Just a simple, quaint little spot on the side of the freeway. We've been there twice now, and the food is great. We pass it all the time on the way to Coushatta in Kinder, and now we're kicking ourselves for not stopping in sooner. The vibe, the people, the food--everything just feels right. The whole place feels like it's straight out of Mayberry (for the younger folks, ask someone older and they'll tell you). My wife and I love to people-watch, and I swear we saw the pastor chatting with parishioners, the mayor and his wife shaking hands with folks, neighbors catching up on the latest gossip, and the PTA crew laughing in the corner. It was all just too perfect. The food is cooked the way it used to be in the old days, and it really brings back memories. Don't get me wrong--the restaurant itself is a normal, modern stand-alone building--but the feel inside, with the vibe from the waitresses, the customers, and the food, just exudes this wonderful old-time country charm. Allyssa was our waitress the last two times we went, and she's absolutely adorable. She's got the sweetest country twang and a natural charm that makes you feel right at home. She's very attentive, too. We had the fried pickles, the catfish dinner, and the fried shrimp. The iced tea is always fresh. They close at 2 on Sundays, so get there early for the freshest food. I'm no food critic, so I can't break down all the flavors for you--but I can tell you everything was good, and we left with big smiles on our faces. We'll definitely be back.

The interior is also big and very tidy! There was a small welcoming staff there to greet us. The grilled oysters were topped with chopped peppers and bacon bits - came out hot and the oysters were plump and big! Very very tasty! It was about 30$ for a dozen oysters - so quite affordable for the size of oysters. Great bite and starter. I ordered the Atchafalaya, which had fried catfish and crawfish etouffee gravy smothered on top. The rice was a bit underdone which made the over taste of the dish not as cohesive. The crawfish pieces were abundant, but slightly mushy. The sweet potato fried side dish that came with the dish was perfect though - soft interior and slightly crisp exterior. The portion size was huge and I wasn't able to finish the dish. I'd definitely recommend trying the oysters on the menu, and next time, I'll need to try the fresh oysters!
