Their bbq sauce is very similar to jack millers but it was like a good church bbq burger. Good thick burger. The boudin is where I'd say skip. Tried the smoked and I liked how it was subtle smoke flavor but the boudin is dry and just ok. It's enough to tease you till you get to lafayette to get some real boudin. Ooweee what amazing treats! First off they had a spread of cooked meat to choose from. I had the Fried Ribs, Fried Catfish, and Pepper Jack Egg Rolls. They also had Fresh Made Pork Rinds, no worries one day I'm leaving the pork alone I decided to get the bag of Fresh Pork Rinds. They had frozen meats to go and gumbo to go. Since meeting my boyfriend, I've heard nonstop about In-Laws. From day one--right after I mentioned I went to college in New Orleans--he's been hyping this place up. First bite of the boudin ball? I was pleasantly surprised. Flavorful, slightly doughy, but still really good. But let's get to the star of the show... The fried ribs. As someone who's lived in Texas for over 20 years, I had never even heard of fried ribs. But baby... these were it. Stop here because of a pit stop at the Pilot gas station which was right next too. I didnt know it was open at 730am but when I seen the drive thru and I seen a car I knew it was open I drove over and oh my goodness it didn't disappoint. We drove in from Houston to New Orleans and planned a trip to In Laws for lunch on the way back. We got there early, around 11am and got a nice hot lunch. They have so many options. I really wish they would bread the ribs before frying them. We ordered ribs, sausage and sides of dirty rice and beans. I also bought a few items from the fresh meat section - whole stuffed chicken and brisket burgers, they are so good. Food was good, service was great. They was a few people ahead but moved quickly through the line. I wasn't feeling my best so o only nibbled on my food, later I ate my food later and it was a little bland. We also purchased some frozen brisket patties, a seasoned pork roast and some fried chicken crackling. The store was well stocked and ready for purchase. I went to use the restroom which was really clean by the way, but one of the employees was next to me and when she finished she walked right out and headed to the kitchen. In-Laws is a must stop for yummy food when rode tripping through Louisiana. If you're going I-10 east, it's at the Iowa exit #43 (LA-383). The staff always provides good service and if you're a little picky about which fried ribs (my personal favorite), boudin link or boudin balls you want, they roll with. There is a drive through available as well but I always go in. The restrooms are always clean too. Can't wait to go again! read more

Tried this place when leaving Lake Charles one day. Very clean, very neat, great service, bid crowd... Bonus - to get decent cracklin and boudin in Lake Charles other than Market Basket. Of all of the products I tried I absolutely loved their smoked sausage on a bun from the lunch counter. While the boudin and cracklin was good I would not put it against Best Stop, Kartchner's, Dons, or Billy's. But the sausage... fricking great! Service was prompt and efficient during a huge lunch wave. Place was packed and that's always a great sign. AMAZING! Probably THE BEST pork experience I've had in my life! Stopped in on a friend's recommendation on our way back home from New Orleans and this place was absolutely amazing! The fried ribs and pork chops were perfectly seasoned, fried, and served at the perfect temperature. They were extra meaty and simply took my breath away. The boudin balls were big and seasoned very well, and the dirty rice may be the BEST I've ever had! It had the perfect amount of seasoning, and had generous amounts of pork mixed in as well. Even the green beans were excellent, with a subtle sweetness and flavor. The service was very friendly, and the line to order moved efficiently. THE best part is - they even had freezers with offerings to go! I took enough for two meals for the family. This is a definite stop EVERY time I'm driving down I-10 in Louisiana now. My only 'complaint' is that they don't serve crackers, (saltines) for my boudin (I'm from Texas that is how we eat Boudin). There is always a line but the line moves fast. Not very many tables, only 4 large picnic tables inside so we always take the food to go. Works out great for us as we travel to our next destination. This place is well worth a stop to eat. Stopped in at in-laws for lunch today during my travels from Las Vegas. This place is so amazing and I ordered the fried ribs, green beans, and baked beans. I also ordered a pepper jack Boudin ball, and that was totally amazing. This was the first time I had fried ribs and it was definitely the best ribs I've ever had. If you ever have the opportunity to eat here during your travels in Louisiana, I highly recommend it. The service at the front by Tammy was friendly, and her personality was great. She gave me great recommendations on the pepper jack Boudin ball, and the fried ribs which are their most popular. We sat at a table with one gentleman that was already sitting at a large table... Mark the Butcher was on a break, and he was very friendly and pleasant to talk to you. Mark mentioned the number one item they sell are the fried ribs and second to best is the brisket burgers. After eating the fried ribs I understand why it's their number one selling item. Inside is totally awesome with all kinds of merchandise you can buy from T-shirts to hats to delicious desserts. After many many years of seeing this place on social media I finally made a stop! And the fact that I kept passing it all this time and not realizing on trips to Texas is outrageous. We came in right before a rush. Quick scan of the menu and we decided to sample quiet a bit (fish, boudin, fried ribs, chicken tenders, cracklins). Boudin-meh. The boudin tasted more of rice than anything else to me. Compared to other boudin spots around Acadiana and BR it would fall at the lower of my list. Fish-yes. The breading is perfect and the fish was crispy. Cracklins- I didn't eat these but hubs said they were really good. Ribs- not too bad. Would def recommend to try if you have never had one. Chicken strips- standard fare but the breading to me was sweeter like a funnel cake batter. Maybe it crossed with something in the fryer that was sweet? Overall would recommend. I figured out why they call it In-Laws...they're trying to kill each other...or me, anyway. The place is busy, and people seem to love their food. Perhaps In-laws is just not made for me. I like fresh veggies, lean protein, and no unnecessary spice. I was with friends and this is where they wanted to have lunch. We were also getting some cracklins for a friend. We were at the newer Westlake location, not Iowa. I try to avoid fried food, which shrank their menu to basically sausage on a bun (or brisket patty) and green beans. Sausage and green beans for me. The sausage had a good flavor and their BBQ was okay. The green beans are spicy/sweet. I was expecting more of a southern-style bean, but no. I've no idea why these beans were (IMO) overly sweet and overly spiced. I guess their loyal customers like that, but it's not up my street. My two friends enjoyed their lunches, so I am definitely in the minority. read more

We were traveling to New Orleans for the weekend and we were starved. We saw this huge sign on the highway and decided to stop. I saw that the reviews were good. They have a HUGE sign on I-10. What could go wrong??? We stopped just in time to avoid being on the road with the hail storm from hell. That was good. Once we got inside, the line moved quickly. It seemed like they had repeat customers that knew what they wanted. They were mostly grabbing stuff from the freezers to cook at home: ribs, boudin, etc. We didn't have much time to decide and I felt overwhelmed by the options. I just remember it didn't feel very appetizing to me once I got to the front. The cashier, bless her heart, was not very helpful. I didn't know what to order since it all seemed like deep fried foods on the hot steam table and pork. We wanted some veggies but the only veggies were green beans with pork. One of us had a pork allergy. We collected so much stuff that we had to ask her to put some of the fried boudin balls back. It was just a crazy amount of food! We wanted to try what was most popular not just the steam table options but it wasn't explained very well. At the end of it all we ordered a variety of fried boudin balls, fried fish, fried tenders, fries, fried pork chops, sausage, ribs, and a plate of bbq chicken (which was enormous!) and beans. It all seemed like it was going to settle well but it DIDN'T! It's been three days and I AM STILL SICK! It's definitely a food bacteria and it wasn't just me! All three of us got sick!!!! I wanted to call to let them know if I thought that would make a difference but I just thought I'd put a warning out. Obviously the reviews are great! I'd hate to be the one review that contrasts but something was really wrong with the food that day. Maybe the grease was not heated right or the food was contaminated. I was in the area so I decided to stop by In-Laws for a quick plate lunch. There are a few billboards on the Interstate that tell customers where they are located, as the eatery is a bit beyond a couple large truck stops. They have a gravel parking lot which can be an issue for vehicles with low profile tires. The interior is clean and well organized, with a refrigerated meat and sausage section off to the side near the bottled drinks (they serve Coca Cola products at In-Laws) and a counter where you can order your food. Seasoning and spice displays are placed in the center. As this review is written in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, there are only a few tables inside and a few more outdoor seats and tables for social distancing considerations. The menu was a little bit confusing to me, as they are separated into "Hot Items," "Boudin Items," and "Buffet Items." While folks in Louisiana can understand what Boudin is, I do think there needs to be more clarification, and the girl behind the counter had to explain the menu to the out-of-state customers in front of me. Furthermore, "plate lunch" was rather vague, as there was no listing on what it was until you ask what the meat was for the day. I did order the plate lunch and the meat of the day was half a baked chicken. It came with two sides, which I chose dirty rice and green beans, as well as a dinner roll. Additionally, I added a half pound of pork cracklins to munch on during my drive home. Service was quick and friendly. Being in the current Pandemic environment, I felt that the tables are best reserved for groups, and as a single diner, decided to eat in my car. The gravel parking lot kicked up a lot of dust as vehicles come and go so I had to move my car to the truck stop nearby with an asphalt lot so I can eat with the windows rolled down. Overall the chicken has a very good spice to it, and is a generous serving. The dark meat parts are wonderful and the breast area remained moist. The sides have a good taste to them although some hot sauce would help, while the dinner roll is standard. The pork cracklins were wonderful, had a good texture to them, and not overly seasoned. In sum, In-Laws is a wonderful place to stop by and have a quick meal. The plate lunch was excellent and hearty. I hear the fried ribs is their specialty, and do plan to return to try it out the next time I am back in the area! read more

I ordered chicken strips and fries. Wasn't bad at all but nothing special. The prices were good so it was worth the money, but it was very average. Ribs were tough to chew though had a nice flavor. Sausage bites had a little caramelization and small amount of seasoning. Chicken was your average fried from frozen and fries were normal Cajun fries like you get at the grocery store and then deep fried. I guess I just expected more from Louisiana and their Cajun cooking. Will definitely try again in New Orleans for dinner tonight. We stopped at In-Laws for lunch and it was so, so delicious. The food was cooked to perfection...Not too spicy, but just spicy enough to have awesome flavor. We had the lunch plate and it's definitely large enough to share. I shared the pork steak, dirty rice, and green beans and my daughter shared the 1/4 chicken with the same sides. Both meats were so moist. The service was excellent. The set up is an order at the counter deal and then there are about 4 tables inside and several outside on the patio.
