When I arrived it was exactly how I imagined it, this old school family business reminded me of my childhood growing up in Louisiana, it's probably one of the most unpretentious places you could ever visit this is a true treasure that still embraces the cajun culture. Of course I wanted a little of everything, the fresh unpackaged butchered meats, the packaged seasoned meats including things like tame rabbit, a variety of tassos, cracklins and some of the best boudin on the planet. I must have walked around this store at least 3 times and I'm sure I didn't see it all - I had to keep in mind we were traveling in the RV and planned to be on the road for more than a month after leaving here so space is limited but there are somethings that are a must buy when the opportunity presents itself. The staff here is amazing so friendly and helpful and they can answer all your questions if your not familiar with all the items on display fortunately I was able to explain things to my girl who was in awe of the offerings here. I definitely wasn't leaving here without getting some of the most mouthwatering fresh center cut pork chops, a few other specialty items and of course their delicious boudin. This place definitely deserves a bookmark and if are anywhere within 50 miles or more of this wonderful store you have to get here - this is a rare find and a gem in this community...

Liked it even though it was different. The corn I could tell they put 29 sticks of butter and seasoning. Also good. The brisket patty was great. Their bbq sauce is very similar to jack millers but it was like a good church bbq burger. Good thick burger. The boudin is where I'd say skip. Tried the smoked and I liked how it was subtle smoke flavor but the boudin is dry and just ok. It's enough to tease you till you get to lafayette to get some real boudin. Grabbed a lemon ooey gooey and the ingredients is a Stephen king novel. Oh well wanted dessert. Didn't try it but it's lemon always good. All in all not a bad place for a quick stop

We did not grab meat because we still have a whole before we head home, they do have you a frozen bag on sale right next to the freezer and Fridge for your convenience. Now let me give credit where credits due - Rouses Market is a level above anything in town well at least in Moss Bluff being everyone here still has a Lake Charles address. Oh yea there Walmart Market Place with its parking lot filled 24/7 and then there's Amazon the store that will eventually crush them all as soon as the old touchy feely generation goes to the promise land, but until that time you have to experience a Rouses Market its Louisiana through and through. I mean tell me where you can match the line up I observed today e.g. fried chicken seasoned with crawfish boil seasoning, fresh turtle meat, fresh Louisiana crawfish tails, roux, jars of gumbo, étouffée, shrimp with their head still on and a fricking "king cake" oh yea I could go on and on and on but you get the picture or you just don't care because you stopped in for a loaf of French bread and a Yoo-hoo. I came here looking for something to throw on the grill and found it, the butcher cut me four one inch and a quarter thick ribeyes that any carnivore would crawl through three miles of cypress swamp just to light the grill their cooked on - no seriously these were some serious steaks. But wait one of the things I love about Rouses is that they use "locally sourced" everything when it's available and the quality meets their high standards. After unloading onto the belt we were all told "only cash" by the poor cashiers that had that "deer in the headlights" look. This is the second time my husband had this happen in the last few months.
