Oh my goodness. This is THE best breakfast ever! We fly ourselves over to Lake Charles just to have breakfast here. We've told sooo many people about this restaurant, and have even unexpectantly ran into people we told from our own town here in Texas, on two different occasions. Anytime we're passing through, or just feel like flying over ... we hop in the plane and head their way! I would say it's THE best breakfast ever!! My favorite is the red velvet stuffed with bacon and crème cheese, then topped with yummy fried shrimp! My husband says the shrimp and grits is the best he's ever had!! Thank you so much for a great menu, great hospitality, and great food that keeps us coming back!
We're Houstonians who come in each chance we can. Please be aware there will be a wait since it's a local small business but definitely worth the wait. The food always has a homemade taste with each dish like their waffles, hash, and especially their homemade biscuits and jams!! Every visit they have a new jam to taste. The Josh and Pork chop plate will always be our go-to order
Okay so food was good Food was fresh Food was very filling Place was homie and quaint very casual would definitely go back
My husband had the jambalaya grits, and I ordered the BJ Breakfast. The grits were excellent--flavorful. We were both happy with our meals overall. Unfortunately, the biscuits were a major letdown: dry, crumbly, and surprisingly bad. The strawberry and blueberry peach jams were watery and unappetizing. We'd return just for the grits--they were that good. The exterior of the place isn't very inviting and the neighborhood feels a bit rough, but if you're in the mood for some really good grits, it's worth a visit. We were visiting from Texas and would come back again--but only for the grits. The biscuits and jam were a real disappointment.
Everything about this place is great!! The staff is super friendly and accommodating and the food is AMAZING! Some of the best grits I have ever had, and the bourbon peach pepper jam is indescribable! A must stop in Lake Charles.
This place ranks Top 5 for me. Unassuming location with the Southern hospitality. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. We had the Sloppy Biscuit (Picture not taken because I destroyed it before the waiter placed the plate on my table), Jambalaya Grits (Pictured here) and Sloppy Hash (Also pictured here). Scott was great and I have nothing negative to say about this spot. I would recommend this spot and we will be back. They only open till Noon so get there early.
Total Yelp find on a recent trip to Lake Charles. Came from Texas to visit some famous chef's steakhouse on my birthday weekend. We stayed just over the bridge in Westlake. Saturday morning we awoke looking for coffee and the all important breakfast before we went for that big fancy $$$$ dinner. We arrived just in time to avoid the wait; this place obviously has a local reputation. My mom immediately exclaimed how good the coffee was. That would be a secret blend of Folgers and Jim Beam coffee mixed in. Let me tell you friends, there is Walmart purchased condiments on every table. What they do with them is glorious. The secret ingredient is Cajun love. My Ashley omelette had bacon, link sausage, shrimp, jalapenos, onion and bell pepper. Four eggs not three; paired with one of the best cheesy grits I've ever had. My mom HATES grits..She loved this version. Man boy had the chicken and waffles. GF had the Shuggah hash Mom had the BJ omelette. All perfectly presented southern love on a plate. By the time we left folks were parking behind other cars so nobody ahead of them could leave. Possibly the best breakfast find in Louisiana.
Amazing black owned restaurant! It's located in a neighborhood in Lake Charles so don't think your GPS is off. I went and truly enjoyed the music and vibe of the restaurant. I ordered the seafood grits with shrimp, imitation crab meat, and sausage over creamy gouda grits with a fried fish filled. Sooooo good. That fish was fried to a golden brown and the batter on it was good! I also had a waffle and a homemade biscuit which both were good. The service was ok, the young lady was nice. 9/10, I'll be back again.
We stopped in here for Sunday brunch. It was packed and we had quite a wait, but it was worth it! It's the stuff dreams are made of and both of us can't wait to go back! I ordered half sweet tea half lemonade with half blueberry and half blackberry flavoring (jam). It was too sweet! So the waiter offered a do over with unsweetened tea and that was much better. It was tasty and quite refreshing, but I'd probably try 2/3 lemonade with 1/3 unsweet tea next time. My date ordered the Fish and Grits topped with Fried Shrimp. I tasted it and it was in my top 2 best grits I've tasted of all time. Super tasty and luscious with just the right amount of richness. The fried catfish filet was perfect and the side of bacon was perfectly crisped up and yummy of course. I tried the biscuit leftover and it wasn't good enough to make me want to order it again. With patient guidance from our awesome waiter, I ordered the Peach Chicken & Waffles. The waffles were perfectly soft, the chicken was tasty and the sauce was the bombdotcom. I enjoyed the leftovers just as much and was sad I didn't have more left to eat on after I finished them off, but I want to try the Bacon Banana Stuffed French Toast next time.
Al and Marilyn have an outstanding little... but growing restaurant in the Lake Charles area. The service is always polite and the food is outstanding. The pancakes are a must try and their spin on Southern Classics are great. I tried the sloppy grits and added an extra egg and it might be my new favorite. Coming from San Antonio, TX you may say, "what do I know?" you're right, but my Cajun family may have some credibility Thank you Marilyn and Al for the food and service!
I'll keep this short and to the point: make sure you have breakfast/brunch here when you're in the Lake Charles area. Boudain Hash was phenomenal! Seasoned well, and the flavors all work together amazingly. 10/10 The Kari is a salmon croquette, on top of a fried cheesy-grit cake, topped with Chipotle shrimp, and love. Biscuit was homemade, buttery, and excellent. 9.5/10 Pancake (not pictured, but I mowed through it quickly) - perfect....crispy edges, fluffy center. 10/10 Service: Everyone was friendly and accomodating. Very attentive and even asked how our experience was. Id ggo back, even if the food was medicore, for them. The food being amazing was the cherry on top. 11/10 We went around 9:30 on a Saturday, and there was a wait of about 45 minutes. Worth every minute. Don't sleep on this gem, trust me. Get there without delay.
We are traveling and came across this place. The food is so delicious. I was craving some hearty Southern food and this place made my heart full! We got the Hudson and Jambalaya grits with fried fish. The boudin in the Hudson is one of the yummiest boudin I've had. And the bacon maple jam made the flavor even more complex. Topped with gravy and shrimp - chef kiss I also enjoyed the grits a lot. I broke the crispy fried fish into bits and mixed into the grits. The texture is simply amazing. Service is super good. Everyone is so welcoming. It feels like very home-y place. Hope this helps! read more

The food was AMAZING! I'm not going to lie... I was hesitant when we parked but I'm so glad we stayed. My husband and I ordered 3 different entrees so we could have a little bit of everything. Well we ended up finishing everything. We ordered: -chicken and waffles The chicken was juicy and seasoned perfectly. -Sloppy Biscuit The biscuit was nice and soft in the middle Gravy was delicious and the caramelized onions were a perfect addition. -Bacon French toast Delicious! You have to try them! read more

Everybody knows everybody at this quaint Southern diner that's on the outskirts of Lake Charles. The menu is comfort food heaven, complete with fluffy-fresh, piping-hot biscuits that appear out of the ether approximately every four minutes. (Seriously, I don't know how they keep up. And if you don't slather it with their blueberry pepper jam, we can't be friends.) On the day I visited, the server touted the chicken and waffles, which is always a safe go-to breakfast staple. She then pointed out that if I wanted to up the ante, I might want to try their peach cobbler chicken and waffles. Readers, I died. Resurrected. And died again. The crispy, but not too crispy waffle alone engulfed the plate and was liberally doused with crumbly peach cobbler and chunks of peppery chicken tenders. When I grabbed the bottle of syrup, other patrons at the restaurant gasped. Apparently, this dish is sacred and doesn't need syrup. Actually, it doesn't need anything--other than for you to unhinge your jaw. Whether or not this is a recurring dish or part of the permanent menu remains to be seen. But, either way, whatever waffle o' the day they offer is mandatory. (And you better eat their biscuits like you're carbo-loading for a marathon the next day.) read more

Nice find! Small locally owned restaurant at its best. Although the Yelp directions gave us a trip around the block (turn into the parking lot before the corner it says to turn on), this clean & friendly location was well worth it. After asking if any wheat was used in cooking the omelets & receiving verification from the cook that there wasn't, I ordered an omelet that was chock full of meat & deliciousness. Came with a side of cheesy grits that were AMAZING! I forgot to tell the waitress to not include a biscuit on my plate, but my sensitivity is not that great so my husband added it to his plate. He ordered the fried pork chop breakfast and was equally wowed by it. Servings were so large that neither of us finished cleaned our plates & it held us over until supper. If there was a downside, it was the fact that the small wait staff was multi-tasking and took a while to seat people. It all made sense when I heard the waitress tell another customer that the business was owned/run by the man cooking and that the kitchen closed at 12:30 p.m. The dedication is evident in this great place to dine for a delicious, slow-paced breakfast. read more
