I've visited enough times to know that the food can be a hit or miss. I'm sure every restaurant has an "off" day, so perhaps we visited when there was a different chef working. On our last visit, everything was pretty salty. I ordered the prime rib melt, but was very disappointed. Even the gator bites didn't taste like how I remembered them. The boudin balls were the saving grace. They were large (in comparison to the other boudin balls I've previously had) and very tasty. The sweet potato waffle fries weren't bad either. If I could leave 0 stars... I would. Been all around the country and never seen such a disgusting lead waitress and practices in a restaurant. The health inspector must not pay attention during inspections. After walking past the kitchen and seeing a bucket of food that appeared to be etouffe sitting on the floor with no lid on it, a cardboard box of baked potatoes next to it, and see the waitresses spend more time circling up to gossip than actually paying attention to their tables..... I will never waste my money in this establishment again. Go try Big Thickett BBQ or another local spot in town. Watching the unsanitary practices by a waitress named Kaitlyn, who seemed to be in charge, and the laziness of majority of the group gave me enough reason to never waste my time having a meal here again. read more

So we stopped for a quick lunch, told server we were in a hurry. Placed orders and used their clean bathrooms! Orders came out fast. My coworker got the blackened chicken sandwich with a cup of gumbo. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. Both were good? I wish my fries were fresher. Cecil's is hands-down the best place in town for atmosphere, service, and menu selection. The outdoor patio often features live music; it can be loud during the day and hard to have a conversation since the street traffic is so close. Otherwise it is a nice place to have a meal together. (We moved back here after 20 years in the Baton Rouge metro area and the culture shock is real; we are glad to have Cecil's!) We dine there about twice a month, either inside or take-out. The hostess normally gets you seated quickly and the servers are always prompt, know their menu, and pop by after the food is served to make sure everything is as you expected. Drinks are refilled promptly. Our menu favorites are the: Fried Onion Rings: house-made, always hot and crispy; not cut too thick and the batter never falls off. Chicken Alfredo: the grill-marked chicken is moist, the fettuccini is al dente and never overcooked, the sauce complements it and the spinach and broccoli, which is always tender and not over-cooked. Southern Fried Fish and the Jumbo Shrimp are battered with what I'm guessing is a cornmeal & flour mix. They're well-seasoned, not too salty, and always come out crispy and hot. Tiger Burger is always a treat, but we substitute the jalapeño bun for a regular. French fries are usually fresh. Frozen Strawberry Margaritas are tasty and well-mixed. read more

This time we got there and they were busy but there were several empty tables, we were told 15 minutes and they took down our information. 15 minutes later I go ask, and the person had no idea we were waiting and said oh it'll be 20 minutes.... Awesome modernized gem in town! Really glad this place is local to my residence. Cecils has has great food, good vibes, and is aesthetically modern compared to other venues (In my opinion). I normally get the Seafood Pasta, Chicken Wings, and French Fries. My Buddy normally orders the Steaks (Both Filet Mignon and Ribeye) Medium-Rare, and they look delicious every time. This place has both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as an upstairs dining area. It's nicely decorated and displays the "Louisiana/LSU" spirit. We drove several hours to come here lost Hurricane Laura and glad we did. It was recommended by several locals and definitely a happening spot. Full and busy right up to closing. The staff was very friendly and wore masks the whole time. The tables were not socially distanced. The food was. Annot range of local and traditional fare. Started off with wings and friend Boudin balls. The wings were a little on the small side but they were tasty along with the balls. My dish was the fried seafood samplers. Found it to be very yummy and good portions for a sampler. Multiple pieces of shrimp and everything with one deviled crab. The other folks in my party enjoyed their meals as well. On a random, I saw several severs taking what I thought was a shot. It actually was a shot of frozen picked juice, no alcohol. I actually like pickle juice and took them up on it. The fried shrimp should be battered fried shrimp, not breaded when we first started going there it was battered and then they switched the recipe and I was trying to let the waiter know one time and he started to argue with me. I had a meeting in DeRidder today so I decided to stop in Cecil's for a quick lunch around noon. The restaurant is located in a central business district near the parish court house so parking is limited. The building is an older structure but is nicely done. It is great to see that it clearly contributes to downtown revitalization! The interior has a sports bar ambiance, with memorabilia hanging on the walls. Dining alone, I expected to be seated at the bar but that turned out to be a small area that was full so I was seated at a table. There are options available for outdoor dining but it is not ideal for lunch time during late August! Reliable WiFi is available in the restaurant. My server was very attentive, friendly, and professional. She quickly took my drink order. They serve Coca-Cola products at Cecil's. I ordered a Tiger Burger with cheese and chips. The burger took about 10 minutes to come out. It was hot, fresh, and clearly made with quality ingredients. It was absolutely delicious! The chips were also freshly made, but appeared to have spent a wee bit too long in the deep fryer and was rather bland. Fortunately some Cajun seasoning made a difference. Overall I was impressed with the food, service, and friendly atmosphere at Cecil's. I will definitely consider going back the next time I am in the area! read more

When in Louisiana, go get some good southern cajun food right? We were pretty hungry and really needed to satisfy a craving and Yelp led us here. Easy street parking and a great patio for hanging out. They've got the game on but I wasn't really paying too much attention. The reviews about the service are spot on. They are fast, attentive, and don't seem to miss a beat. Where it all fell short for me was the food. For the price, I expected a lot more or a lot better. The alligator bites were probably my favorite of the bunch but for $12, I was hoping for a bit more. The po boy special seemed like just a plain ol' subway sandwich to me, but with significantly better bread and a bit drier. The fries were somehow stale and soft at the same time. The jambalaya seemed a bit tasteless and the fish tacos could have been on store bought unheated tortillas and I wouldn't have known the difference. The menus were inconsistent on the prices and the lunch specials saved you maybe 50 cents if that. Hopefully this was just an off day, but I only got what I could out of hanging out at a relaxing patio vs a quality meal. read more

Today was a simple Tiger Burger w pepper Jack cheese...brought it out to the table w cheddar cheese. We come to DeRidder every weekend during the summer. Our routine is the public west park pool then here to Cecil's. This menu never disappoints. Gator bites excellent. Tiger burger is amazing. Seafood pasta, the Cajun sampler. Seafood po-boy. Fried asparagus. Omg, everything is beyond wonderful. The place is nicely decorated. Love the decor of the place. Almost like walk ons or Buffalo Wild Wings just more down home-ish. The service is Amazing. More like a Miller's Ale House type vibes. Which is ok, but if you're looking for something more quaint this ain't it. They only have a few beers on tap, but yesterday (tuesday) they were only $2. I ordered take out and waited at the bar while my food was being prepared. It was pretty quick- no complaints there. I got the blackened fish tacos. They were really good! The seasoning was on point and the aioli took it to the next level. So- with my tacos I got broccoli as my side. They weren't anything special. Just plain broccoli no seasoning or anything. Driving up the west side of Louisiana, we were ready for lunch when we hit DeRidder and we were in the mood for a legitimate Cajun experience. Cecil's provided as much. A great old building that is decorated mostly with LSU paraphernalia in the downtown of the quaint Beauregard Parish seat. I had a sampler plate of fried crawfish, etouffee, and jambalaya. The crawfish could have been any meat since it was battered and deep fried, but the etouffee and jambalaya were amazing. Etouffee was thick and creamy and the jambalaya had the best sausage ever. My sister was just as pleased with the jambalaya, gumbo and, red beans and rice combo. One of the best meals of the road trip. read more
