The way we were seated was a bit odd... the hostess said our table will be ready in a couple minutes, ignored us for 10 minutes while we waited out front, then when I prompted again she said our table has been ready but I was unsure why she never told us... Anyways, the happy hour deals are pretty good for drinks. I've tried a variety of their entrées, my favorites so far have been the pizza (with pepperoni jalapeño, and honey), spinach dip (chips are crispy and thick), and burger. I have not been impressed by their pasta dishes yet (so far I've tried the shrimp scampi and bucatini) but willing to keep an open mind. I was really looking forward to this place considering the classic ambience and kids area. The good: the service was great, my son enjoyed the little play area, the grilled oysters were pretty good and they gave a free cookie and ice cream for my birthday. The ok: the spinach dip was different but still good with the homemade chips. My son ate the whole cheese pizza and the drinks were good. The ehh: I hate to say it but the "angel hair" shrimp pasta was not good. We couldn't get over that it was served with ramen noodles. This is our favorite Garden Oaks neighborhood eatery. It has a lovely patio for Al fresco dining in good weather. They have a wonderful play area for the grands! The food is upscale, and very tasty. I had the burger today and it was spectacular. The grands love the cheese pizza, the pb&j with shoestring fries. The veg sando is first class. Wonderful cocktails and beers and wines. Ever been to North Italia? Expect same vibes but more family friendly! So if you have kids, come so you can relax while they play on the outside playground! There are picnic style tables next to it that are first come first serve for family style eating, where you order off your phone for service. If you want a more traditional approach and don't care to be next to the children's area, get a reservation online for the lovely outside patio (which is what we did) or indoor seating. Highly recommend the Mefaldine pasta!! Will be getting it again next time it was so delicious!! Appreciated the happy hour wine menu as well! $5 5 oz or $10 10 oz. (3-6 pm I believe) Balloon bread was a different experience with the hollow inside and savory sweet honey glaze on top. Kids pizza and meat trio were yummy but still the Mefaldine pasta was the most memorable with the homemade noodles, incredible meat sauce, quality ricotta topping with rosemary. 4 stars because service could have been more attentive and not so rushed with the ordering, she walked away before everyone had ordered main courses but hey it happens. It was our sons birthday dinner and normally if it's mentioned in the reservation an establishment will offer a little b-day dessert for child but it wasn't mentioned so oh well. We came here to celebrate 4 birthdays with a large group of friends, and I was really excited to come here, as d'Alba kept pulling up in our search of places for brunch that could sit a large crowd. As we looked over all the reviews, looked at the photos of all the outdoor seating, we decided this was the place to go. Initially, we reached out to the restaurant to reserve something for 35-40 ppl outdoors, as we knew the weather would be nice, and if we couldn't all be seated together, it would be fine, as all the seating would at least have us within range of each other. We initially were told they could do it, at a cost, and indoors, we decided to do separate reservations, as each of us were inviting family and friends, and were ok to be seated separately. We made the reservations about 4 weeks in advance, and as we got closer to the day, the event manager had reached back out to me to ask if the reservations we put in were all part of the same party, in which I said yes, and that we still wanted to be outside, so we were ok to be separate. Daut was very sweet and said he could make it work and accommodate us. He also asked about how we were paying, and I told him a handful of checks would be together, but everyone else separate. This would've been an ideal time to say no we can't accommodate. The day of, all four of us were very excited, as was our group, it was a beautiful day, and we arrived early, as we wanted to have a birthday drink at the bar before being seated, but our table was ready and the great hostess took us over to our area, which we absolutely loved! There was a big table that sat probably 12-14 people and then we had some high tops and a bench. This was perfect for the party, and the exact area I had seen in the photos that I wanted. The photos don't do it justice, as their patio is quite large, and even has an outdoor playground for the kiddos! Upon getting to our area, we were eager to order drinks. The manager and two servers came by to introduce themselves. Beto, Amelia, and manager who I can't remember his name. In the beginning, I told them, we are very easy-going group, just keep the drinks coming. As people started to arrive, I could tell that Beto was getting extremely irritated, to the point he walked away from my friend mid-sentence as he was placing an order. I could see that people were not getting drinks, food was coming out at various times, and not all of the food was hot either. Amelia seemed to be doing the best she could, and had a great attitude, and tried to be helpful, and every time I saw the manager, he just seemed to be upset, wasn't helpful and did not look happy with us. When I went inside with my parents to order a shot from the bar, I could see the Beto had tables inside as well, which I can now see why he would be flustered. I don't know if they were/weren't his tables, but he was inside working tables, and had us as a 35 top outside, and that could be frustrating for any server. It just sucks that the attitude came across to several of our friends that he was no longer in it when all we wanted was just to celebrate, eat, and drink. I ordered the breakfast burger and two drinks and they were really good. I got mixed reviews on other plates of food that were ordered, so I know that I definitely want to come back to try other items. At the end of all of this, and an accumulation of everything is where the 3 stars come in. We were told that we could only split the check 5 ways, and that left the 4 of us birthday people to split the check. There was no way for us to determine if the check was even right, as some of the drinks I was told never arrived. The way that the groups were seated at high tops and the bench table, could've been split, and then the one big table, but they were unwilling to accommodate this, even though they knew prior to us arriving at the restaurant. I think if we were given less attitude during service, this could've been an oversight, but the multitude of everything just put a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I again would LOVE to try this place, because it is beautiful, I don't want one individual to make my experience the overall final judgment, but this was disappointing, as this day could've been significantly better with a few tweaks to service. read more

This year for my birthday, some friends and I decided to do a joint birthday brunch. After lots of research, d'Alba kept popping up as a great brunch spot with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. We looked into booking one large party but decided to book multiple reservations and just mingle amongst ourselves. We did this to make it easier on the staff as well as being able to split checks and what not. The venue ended up calling us to see if we were all together and said they could just seat us all together. Awesome on their part for even trying. When we arrived, they had an area reserved on the patio. We were introduced to our two servers who seemed super enthusiastic and ready. They explained that they couldn't do split checks but could do up to five separate checks. So my fellow birthday folks decided we could each get a check. We started telling them who was on what check but in the end, we got one bill. This was very inconvenient considering they told us something completely different at the beginning. One server was awesome throughout while the other clearly was over it. The was exactly why we wanted to just book separate tables. Food and drink wise, I think they did a solid job. I started off with an espresso martini and ended up with the upDated Old Fashioned. Both were delicious. For my entree I went with the confit chicken and waffles. The chicken was very tender and flavorful. The waffle was tasty but a little on the dense side. We also shared some of the crispy Brussels sprouts and spinach and artichoke cashew cream dip. We enjoyed both of those as well. Overall, minus the hiccups with the bill and one server, I enjoyed myself. They did their best to accommodate us but just were not clear with some of their procedures. I would come back but only in a small group setting. The perfect neighborhood spot for a slightly more upscale cocktail and dining experience! When you want a little more pomp and circumstance than a burger joint, but also want to keep it a little bit casual, this is the place. D'Alba is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood. It makes for a fun little date night. And everything we have eaten from there has been delicious. Most recently I had the Campanelle hand made pasta with chicken added, and it was so good! My husband had the pepperoni and jalapeño pizza, and we split the Brussel sprout salad. Everything was very tasty! I have tried several of their pizzas on other occasions, and they have always been good (surprisingly to me, especially their vegetarian options!). Shout out to a great staff! From making our reservation to tge end of a birthday celebration at their big table in the play area, everything was great! James in the cage bar did an awesome job making delicious drinks, taking our orders and making sure we were comfortable. PIZZA- pepperoni pizza, gh marinara, five-cheese blend, jalapeño & chile honey* $17 - (8 slices) - pretty good pizza, but again not too special. Jalapeños were actually a bit spicy. Crust was soft and bready if you like that. Preferred over the pasta, though. PASTA- campanelle, basil pesto, parmesan, english peas, cherry tomatoes, basil, summer squash* $17 - added CHICKEN for $5 - honestly didn't see much chicken. I think I had high expectations for this pasta, especially since the waiter said it's his favorite, but it was just okay to me. I just didn't think it was that flavorful. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Nice playground for kids, if you don't like kids, this may not be your jam, if you have kids this place is great. Lots of parents had opportunity to sit and enjoy their food while kids played and were entertained. Not many vegetarian, vegan or gluten free options though. I cam here in a small group of 3 on a Wednesday evening around 730pm. There were a couple of spots in the small lot adjacent to the restaurant, but plenty of street parking available plus the parking offered at the Veterans center across the street (look for signs). It was open seating, and we were able to easily find a table. Service was very attentive and friendly throughout the evening - they make you feel welcome and answer any menu questions you may have. The menu has lots to choose from, so you should be able to find something to suit any taste. We opted to share a couple of appetizers (campechana and roasted brussels), a pizza (grilled corn pizza), and then some mains (ravioli and garden sando). All of the food was delicious. The brussels were addicting - I could have eaten a bowl of those alone and been happy. I am not a fish person so I didn't sample the campechana, but the others at the table enjoyed it. The pizza was a really interesting combination of flavors that worked very well together, all on top of a perfect crust. My main, the ravioli, was so rich and decadent - clearly homemade pasta with tons of flavor. All in all, give this place a try! Definitely a great GOOF neighborhood gem. read more

If I could give this place 9 stars I would. The only reason I would not give them 10 stars is they dont serve my favorite brunch items beyond weekend brunch times. LOVE the self-serve playground area (genius!). The inside is nice and bright, and the service is always friendly and fast whenever I have gone. This is one of my favorite places in Houston to go to with friends and especially with family and kids. PRO PARENT TIP: Sit in the self-serve play area so you can enjoy a nice adult time while the kids play on the playground and green space. I also got the smashed avocado flat bread with Fresno chiles, pickled cucumber, fried farm egg, red onion, grated pecorino, and everything seasoning. I had heard good things about this restaurant from friends, we decided to try the Restaurant Week menu. The crab and shrimp campechana was excellent - good sweetness from the crab was a good complement to the lime in the sauce, but I hoped for it to be spicier. I got no heat from this dish. The leek dip was OK, the kitchen sent it out with the chipotle lime chips instead of the toasted bread it should have been served with. No big deal. Entrées were good. The shrimp and bacon pizza was outstanding. The crust on their pizza is soft, but not too dense or chewy. The seafood over Angel hair pasta was good. Mussels cooked perfectly. The Angel hair was overdone, but it's Angel hair. It's always going to be overcooked in a restaurant. It's just too thin for a commercial kitchen to be able to time right so it's the right consistency when served. Dessert experience left something to be desired. We asked for the lemon blueberry cake to go, and the cookie with vanilla ice cream to share. The cookie and ice cream were pretty standard. Warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. We did not check that the to go dessert was the correct one - when we arrived home we realized they had rung in the wrong dessert and given us a to-go lemon sorbet instead of the cake. Oh well, it was loud (the acoustics of the restaurant really amplify it and make it hard to hear your server when sitting at the bar). Ordered two cocktails, a spicy margarita and an old fashioned. This is an update from my last review a few months ago! Since that review, I've returned a few times but todays review reflects my most recent experience + a few from my previous. Service was sub-par. Beware: very family-friendly bar and restaurant on the weekends. I've only experienced the vibe on weeknights and it's quite a different dynamic on these nights versus weekends. Our server was ok, but in the beginning when we were first seated and ordered drinks and our dishes, our server very obviously catered to and checked on the couple sitting next to us but completely ignored us on two occasions. I also had to frequently get up and walk over to a staff member to get something I needed, like hot sauce for the gulf oysters. The last time I visited D'Alba, the server told us that they had recently switched chefs/cooks because I had noticed a change in their spinach artichoke dip which is pictured in my previous review. We ordered: Gulf oysters: fresh but incorrectly shucked, so we bit into cracked and broken shells and it sort of ruined the experience Blue crab and shrimp campechana A few cocktails, Rose Gold 75, We All Float, and wine for the hubs! This is a cute spot nestled off to the side. I was there celebrating a friend's sons' birthday, he turned the big 6. They have a nice patio area connected to a mini playground for the kiddos. Unfortunately, when we went it was raining so the little ones we had didn't get a chance to play. They have a nice selection of foods. Though Houston has a massive number of restaurants that offer countless food experiences, d'Alba has managed to put their own spin on some traditional dishes. For my entrée, I got the prosciutto pizza. It wasn't what I thought it would be. I don't feel that the prosciutto and dates were evenly spread out across the pizza. Some slices didn't have dates on it, so you didn't get the sweet and salty mixture with each slice. Now the crust...THE CRUST...AMAZING! The crust had the right amount of crunch and fluffiness inside. My friend and her family raved about their dishes, so I would def go back to try those. After such an amazing time the first brunch I had at D'alba, I decided to invite some friends a second time. It wasn't as mind blowing the second time though but still good. We still loved the place and the Salmon sandwich was still AMAZING. We also got the bubble bread to split which was absolutely delicious (and everything that came with it was so flavorful - exactly what I expected coming back here!) Unfortunately the other dishes we got weren't so great (including the egg plate which was not cooked as ordered and the chicken & waffle which was just ok). This time we did try some of the other mimosas. We got the 3 carafe flight which, while the flavors were good, got quite warm sitting outside with us throughout the meal. Also our server was very sweet but everything took a long time to come out to us. We also didn't get water refills until we were all out of water for a while. We assumed it was because they were quite busy (and a lot of the patio got rained out) so we definitely understood things were hectic but it was worth noting. Overall it was still a great atmosphere and the food was delicious, but there were still aspects that could have been better thus time. First time trying d'alba. The restaurant is very cute inside and I love the decorations, makes it very cute for a girls night out or a date night. The staff was awesome and very friendly. Wow! So excited for this new place in Garden Oaks!! I don't actually live here but my family does and I love the great options in the neighborhood that are within walking distance. We walked over to d'alba around 5:30 for an early dinner. We arrived in time to get in a happy hour order of drinks and food, so we went with the charcuterie board, spinach artichoke dip, and Brussels sprouts and all ordered a cocktail. The red headed mule (made with grapefruit deep eddy vodka and q hibiscus ginger beer) was really good and perfectly balanced. For dinner we ordered glasses of wine, for which there was an excellent selection to pick from. I ordered the blackened salmon with cucumbers and smashed avocado (delish) and others in my party ordered the steak, vegan Buffalo cauliflower pizza, a pasta dish--all of which I heard were good. The atmosphere here is family friendly... expect it to be loud with small children all about. I would suspect most kids are gone by 7 pm. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is nice for all the seasons, with umbrellas and sun shades outside for the summer.
