Had the chili relleno and I literally licked the plate clean!! The coffee was so fresh and good I had 6 cups! Added a side of bacon and it was heaven in my mouth. If anyone is ever up the 285 stop in for a quick meal! If your not up the 285 make a special trip one weekend just to try it out. You won't be disappointed! I suspect, you'll be okay if you order sandwiches (burgers and such). Avoid the entrees at all costs, as everything on the plate came from a box, bag or can...absolutely nothing was fresh. The green beans were grayish green, the mashed potatoes were instant, the rolls were from store and the country-fried steak came out of a freezer bag. Desserts were large, but stale. The dining room doesn't strike you as clean. The ambience is rag tag at best...lots of odd stuff on the walls or hanging from the ceiling (e.g., cowboy boot bird houses with license plate roofs). The middle-aged woman behind the counter had a voice that dominated the entire room...it was intrusive to the point that you couldn't hold a conversation without it interrupting you. She was chatting with a customer so loudly, you would have thought she had a bullhorn. What would make the place better? --A thorough cleaning/painting --A menu that involved fresh vegetables and a bit more effort than opening a can --A good de-cluttering. Throw out all the trash clinging to the walls and ceilings. --Replace the behind-the-counter bullhorn with perhaps some barely noticeable background music. read more

A wonderful family restaurant about 50 minutes from Denver makes it a perfect rest stop on US 285, or if you live near... you already know this is a perfect place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I could give it less than one star I would. We rode up from Aurora just for breakfast,9/4/17. We arrived around 10am. When we walked through the door we were not shown to a table, instead we were directed by the short man with the black longer hair and black beard to just sit wherever. There was 4 of us in our party. He finally pointed to a table that was dirty and and 3 or 4 used coffee cups on it yet. He said he would clean it up. We sat down and waited for at least 5 minutes until he came back and asked if we wanted something to drink. We all told him what we wanted. The table still has not been cleaned. He grabbed a coffee pot and put my coffee in one of the dirty previously used cups. I declined his offer. We sat there for 30 minutes and no one at our table was brought anything to drink. There was no silverware, no coffee, no water, no nothing. Though he did take our orders after 30 minutes still nothing. We watched folks come in and get their food within 10 minutes. For us nothing. We finally left and went else where. What a horrible little place. Yes it was labor day but that is NO excuse for the extremely poor service. Never again. read more

This place is the whip. When I dream of a comfort food breakfast, with great prices and a perfect mountain town vibe, I now dream of the Cutthroat. Coffee mugs with advertising on them (I really want one of these), tasty simple food, and you can substitute a hotcake for standard toast. I KNOW! I leave happy and satisfied every time, and breakfast for two is consistently under $20. Try the cinnamon rolls, the Big John (?) sandwich, the breakfast burritos, or any of the breakfast combinations. And they have great bacon! Love it. read more

This place is a puzzlement. There seems to be times of good food/service, and times of poor food/teen service. I have had both. Husband has had good. We have a place nearby and come and go during the summers. First time we had breakfast it was a typical American breakfast with eggs, toast and bacon. Cooked as we ordered and came out hot and timely. Next time I came by myself and had a poor experience. It was a mid-day lunch/dinner for me and ordered a sandwich which was just OK. No one else was in because of the time and I was kind of forgotten after I was served. Had to ask for the check finally and a refill of tea. Just not sure what to say....husband likes, so we will return. I do wish they would spruce up the place, as mentioned by others. read more

I really only order one thing here: the Real Deal Breakfast Special. It is really very good, especially if you had a late night or are nursing a hangover. I brought my family visiting from out of town here for lunch one time and I was not impressed. I ordered soup and a sandwich and it wasn't anything special. The soup tasted like it came from a can. Based on positive yelp reviews, my husband and I decided to stop here for a late lunch after a long hike. The food was okay and affordable, about what you'd expect from a roadside restaurant. I'd give the food 3.5 stars. The lower overall rating is based on the atmosphere which was extremely loud thanks to a gentleman that I can only assume is the owner or manager. He basically held court the entire time we were there. One tidbit that we couldn't help but overhear involved his adamant opinion that people shouldn't take magazines into the bathroom and that he prefers to get in, do his "business" and get out. I can only hope that this was not prompted by him observing a customer walk into the restroom with a magazine!! While he continued to speak, we were treated with another manager speaking to her servers and cooks about not having a "loud party atmosphere". I honestly wanted to interrupt to clue her in that the other owner was her only noise issue at the moment. It was distracting and annoying at a time when we were just looking for a nice quiet lunch. Especially disappointing since we bypassed other dining options to choose this place. The good news is that this is a problem that is easily solved simply by using indoor voices. read more

Good place for breakfast, fairly cheap too. Gets quite busy on weekends especially in the summer so go early or plan to wait.

Love this place. We stopped here today on our way to Buena Vista, just as we did on our way to BV last year. Their smothered breakfast burritos are huge and delicious. I got the egg, cheese, hash browns and sausage one. My wife got the same minus the sausage. Great family-run vibe. Charmed by the grizzled old bikers at the table next to ours. The backyard is nice when the weather is warm. We're already looking forward to our next meal here. read more
