4.5 stars. Custard's First Stand is an ice cream shop that sells the following: soft-serve ice cream (e.g., chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry), soft-serve sundaes with toppings, specialty sundaes (e.g., pecan ball and s'mores), parfaits (e.g., peanut buster and Hawaiian), milkshakes (e.g., cotton candy and pineapple), premium milkshakes (e.g., mint Oreo and strawberry cheesecake), smoothies (e.g., cherry and black raspberry), Glaciers (e.g., Reese's Pieces and Snickers), premium Glaciers (e.g., Turtle and raspberry cheesecake), Hershey's ice creams (e.g., butter pecan and cookies 'n cream), frozen lemonade, novelties (e.g., ice-cream sandwich and chocolate banana), slushies (e.g., cherry and watermelon), shaved ice, etcetera. Another reviewer commented that Custard's First Stand does not sell custard. I, however, did see a "custard bar" and a custard "barrel" on the menu. I do agree that naming the business "Custard's" leads people to expect more custard. My husband and I stopped by Custard's First Stand on a weekday evening. We easily found a parking spot in the lot. Two employees were ready to serve us. I ordered a banana split, and my husband ordered a hot-fudge brownie. I got confused about the flavors of ice creams for the banana split, because the menu listed the toppings as "flavors." The employees immediately took our payment and made our treats. The weather was rainy, so I appreciated the pavilion that provided shelter for several tables and chairs. I enjoyed my banana split, and my husband enjoyed his hot-fudge brownie.

I stopped by here a couple of Wednesdays ago with my wife and twins for some ice cream. While I have driven by Custards First Stand regularly, I can't actually remember the last time I had been there. So what got me to go this time? Well I noticed that their soft serve flavors were key lime and coconut and I thought that would be an awesome soft serve twist. This shop is located right on Camp Horne Road and has its own parking lot and then a covered outdoor seating area as well. On the night that we were there the workers were super nice. For my ice cream on this day I went with exactly what I had planned, the key lime and coconut twist while my wife went with a hot fudge sundae, my son Superman ice cream with sprinkles and my daughter vanilla with sprinkles. My soft serve was good and I appreciated both flavors a lot. Out of the two, it was the coconut that I enjoyed more. My wife also really enjoyed her sundae and my kids were big fans of both the ice cream and sprinkles. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I like that they have non traditional soft serve flavors and thought that the ice cream good and that it also didn't break the bank.

The best little custard stand around! It's great, even on a chilly day. They have several tables that are covered, just off the parking lot. You order up at the counter and the menu of options is large. I've gotten the dirt sundae multiple times and I'm never disappointed. The custard is always great and they don't skimp on the toppings. The service is always very friendly, to both kids and adults alike. I love that they add a little face to the kids ice cream! Would definitely recommend. You really get quality and quantity for your dollar here.

I've been to custards tons of times but this time remembered to take picture of all our amazing sundaes.

We stopped here for the first time yesterday. We got to Custard's around 5:30 and I was happy to see that it wasn't super crowded. They have ample parking. They also have tables and chairs so you can sit outside and eat your ice cream. When we walked up we were greeted right away. The girl taking our order was very sweet and answered any questions we had. I decided on a small twist cone with rainbow sprinkles. My husband ordered a lime misty. My MIL ordered a small butter pecan cone. My husband also got an ice cream sandwich to go. The ice cream sandwiches are made by Good L'oven so I know they are all probably so good! Everything we tried was really good. Definitely hit the ice cream spot. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because... there is no custard... at a place called Custard's. That can be a little misleading, especially if you're coming to this place thinking you can get some custard. Other than that... very good. We will be back.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM! My fiancé is a self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur, so our first trip of 2020 was to check out Custard's First Stand. This is a locally owned family business and definitely did not disappoint! They had a good variety of frozen goods on their menu and great prices. The portions are very generous compared to large chain ice cream stands, and you definitely get more bang for your buck here. Their soft serve was to die for, and they switch up different featured flavors every week. This week was peanut butter and banana-- and let me tell you, our dogs LOVED the peanut butter soft serve. We will definitely be back to support this small business!

Omg! This steak hoagie is so good!!!!!

Custard's got it right. The first time I went there I ordered the Strawberry Cheescake Ice Cream, and it was incredibly good. I went back again for the Strawberry Shortcake, and it was very delicious as well. I recently tried the Fruity Pebble Glacier, and it was amazing! I thought that it would be a ice cream cone, but I was still thoroughly pleased with the large portion in a cup and great flavor! They also serve food! I ordered a Steak Hoagie with fried onions, mushrooms, green peppers, and mayo...hold the cheese! That is my usual spiel when I go to a place and order a steak hoagie. And it was so delicious and plenty of meat. The service was good. And I cannot wait to return. Everyone needs to check this place out! You will not be disappointed with the price point and taste!

Quick, convenient, and enough places to sit and enjoy. Got a soft serve with sprinkles on a cone for less than $3. Closed at 9 so we made it there just in time. Lots of options on ice cream flavors

I was having a real "Pittsburgh Proud" moment at this ice cream spot. I loved reading about the…read morehistory of the business and looking through all of the vintage advertisements and memorabilia outside the shop. My first thought after visiting was that I should have come here sooner, and my second thought was already deciding what I want to order next time. I am already planning to order the peanut butter soft serve with warm fudge and a warm cookie after being inspired by their chocolate chip cookie sundae advertisement and will need to ask about what the strawberry shortcake situation is all about as well. For years, I watched the long lines outside and wondered what all the hype was about. Sometimes you don't get it until you "get it" - and now I get it. Fortunately for us, there was barely any line when we arrived even though it was a hot summer day. Even better, it's only about a one-hour walk from my house. The service was also fast and friendly and the employee who helped us was pleasant the whole time which added to the overall experience. I was especially impressed by the peanut butter soft serve. The flavor was rich and pronounced without compromising the smooth, creamy texture of the soft serve. It was everything I would want peanut butter soft serve ice cream to be. I was also surprised by how many soft-serve flavors they offer. Most places have only a few options, but there was plenty to choose from here. That said, it's hard for me to order anything other than the peanut butter soft serve now that I know how much I love it. One thing to know is that they do not offer free samples because the flavors are made to order. Something else to know is that the small sized cone held noticeably more ice cream than the small cup despite being the same price - so if you can I suggest the cone over the cup if you want more ice cream for the same price. I originally chose the cup because my hands weren't clean, but I later realized the cones come with a plastic protector around them anyway. All in all, this is one of those places that lives up to its reputation, and I highly recommend coming here if you are an ice cream aficionado.

I got the strawberry shortcake sundae and it was huge! I did not expect it to be so big so if you're looking to share something this would be it! It's a staple and delicious.
