Didn't know there was another North Hills location, and it was a pleasant surprise to have a quick drive for great ice cream after shopping in the area. They had Christmas in July special flavors when I visited so I tried the Peppermint with Oreo. I loved it! The peppermint was subtle, not overly minty like it can tend to be. And it was packed with large Oreo pieces. Freshly made so it was extra creamy and soft. The staff was very friendly and even gave us a free cup of whipped cream for our dog. read more

When they first came out with non-dairy ice cream, it was phenomenal. It wasn't just vanilla, they had so many flavor options and it tasted amazing---as in, tasted like normal regular ice cream, only it was made with oat milk. It even tasted better than regular ice cream at times and the consistency was rich and creamy. Almost like gelato. Amazing stuff. I forbid myself from buying pints because of how good it was. Fast forward to today, I cannot find a location that makes it the right way anymore. (I think the Squirrel Hill location was the last to make it the right way but I haven't been there in a long time so I'm not sure how they're doing now. They are completely out of my way and I remember making the drive last year just to have it.) The quality has gone down significantly. It tastes like water? Ice? Plain frozen oat milk, but honestly I can't tell if it's even made with oat milk anymore... it has only a hint of flavor , like it's merely a suggestion and has the consistency of ice cream that you left out overnight, melted and you put it back in the freezer. I'm not saying this to be rude, it really does taste that way. Not like ice cream at all. I'm not sure what happened or why it's so bad anymore, but it seems like a really good thing was ruined. Fall is in season at Bruster's! We had some of their fall flavors, Pumpkin Patch - which was pumpkin ice cream ( super creamy) with bits of soft Graham cracker & our other was deep apple pie! Their menu lists a couple dozen flavors of premium ice cream as well as some sherbets/ices, yogurts, sundaes, shakes, and frozen cakes. Prices are moderate. My husband and I waited in line for a couple of minutes before an employee opened another window to take our order. We each ordered a small cup that consists of two scoops of ice cream. The price was about $4 per small cup. The employee did a good job of scooping our ice creams and processing our payment. Outside the restaurant were some benches and tables where customers could sit and eat. I rate my strawberry tuxedo ice cream as 5 stars and my pistachio ice cream as 3.5 stars. They recently changed their recipe for dairy free flavors and I have no idea what they did but they went from the best oat milk option around for ice cream to the absolute worst. Their oat milk ice cream now tastes like it's barely flavored ice chips. Been coming to this store for as long as I can remember and have yet to have a bad experience. There's always plenty of flavors to choose from that are constantly changing plus the classics that are always there (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is an easy go to when Southern Banana Puddin' isn't available)! Although I do recommend trying the seasonal or monthly flavors when you get a chance, especially the winter flavors around the holidays! All of which are served best in a waffle cone! Also a great place to get a cake or pie for whatever party or event you may be going to. Or even have them cater a party. Two words to describe this location: severely understaffed. We waited in line at least 20 minutes around 8:30. They close at 9 and in order to honor everyone in line at 9, they were still scooping at 9:30, which is when we finally left. Also-no bathrooms here? Makes no sense especially with lots of littles running around. Mint fudge crunch was delicious and I've always liked every flavor so the ice cream is not the issue. What is there not to like? My wife and I have been here on several occasions now. Typically we have our dogs along and Bruster's has a small treat for them. My wife love's ice cream, but I think the dogs may have her beat. On our last trip I ordered a small cup (2 scoops) of chocolate raspberry truffle and chocolate pecan. I really liked both of the flavors, and I think chocolate raspberry truffle might be my favorite of all there (this wasn't my first time ordering it). Bruster's has solid ice cream and the price is alright. A small cone/cup is almost more than I would want to eat, and I am always happy with the flavors. They do a good job rotating the flavors and typically have at least 10-15 available at a time to try. read more

My husband and I have stopped her several times on our way home from North Park. We always have a buy one get on free coupon from the Enjoy Book (or they send mailings out all the time) and they serve ice cream to dogs! I rarely have an ice cream I do not like. I have tried a variety of Bruster's flavors, especially anything peanut butter related, and have not been disappointed yet. I like that they continually rotate their flavors so there is always something new on the menu. Also, a regular size includes two scoops, therefore you can try more than one kind if you wish. First and last time at that branch, I always go to the one on Lowries Run Rd and I regret stopping at the Perry hwy this time. I can't say unfriendly staff since John was trying his best but the girl with the dark hair that was working tonight 4/20/2020 is absolutely Rude. I got my order wrong 3 times and she was giving me attitude and not being very polite. I ordered different flavors ice cream, 2 waffle cones and a a waffle bowl, got the waffle bowl in a regular bowl, I mentioned that I asked for a waffle bowl then I got it wrong again in a cone then I finally got it in a waffle bowl but my cone wasn't the flavor I asked for and it was the same as what I order in the waffle bowl!!!!!! All of that is fine, mistakes happened but I didn't appreciate the very poor customer service and attitude from that girl, she was extremely unfriendly and so bossy!!! I later called to get her name so I can file a complaint to Mary the manager and I was told that they are not allowed to give out names!!!! They are wearing name tags as I knew John from his name tag and when I called I asked whom am I speaking with the girl said Dawnielle but when I say I'm an unsatisfied customer that requests that employee's name so I can file a complaint I suddenly get blocked. Everyone is so stressed and tense with what's going on in the world nowadays and the last thing you need is that terrible experience when all you are trying to do is take your family out for some ice cream and you end up treated very unprofessional and not getting what you ordered and paid money for. read more

I'll admit it, even in my adult age I'm still addicted to sugar like a little kid. There's no shame in that though! Everyone needs a treat sometime, so my partner and I stopped by here over the weekend to get a sweet treat I'm a sucker for milkshakes, but recently I've become even more of a sucker for blasts. Which is only a thing I heard of when trying Sonic for the first time not long ago, so when I found out Bruster's had blasts, I knew I had to order one. I got a large butterfinger blast, and my partner ordered a blue raspberry slush. I did enjoy my blast quite a bit, although the vanilla ice cream they serve the blasts with, wasn't my favorite in the world. It just didn't have that sweetness to it that other vanilla ice creams have, but I still ate every last bite. My boyfriend raved about his slush, said it was really nice and sweet, plus it had a very distinct blue raspberry flavor! Aside from what we ordered, I know this place has every flavor combo you can think of. They have at least a dozen different options that include just chocolate, as well as waffle cones, and even entire ice cream cakes! Who knew Dairy Queen wasn't the only place to sell ice cream cakes? Butter pecan!!!! Crunchy, buttery, pecans and loads of them makes me smile from ear to ear. And in the fall, PUMPKIN pecan. Crunchy, buttery pecans enveloped in smooth pumpkin-y cinnamon-y, gingery, clove-y rich creamy goodness. Not much to say about the stand....except that I know Spring is here when I see the lines in front with kids dancing that little Happy Ice Cream Dance they do. My husband and I stopped by for Peanut Butter Cup sundaes. We each picked a different flavor ice cream for it. The girl at the counter seemed confused just by that. She went off to make them and five minutes later she came back with just mine. Why did it take so long to make one sundae? She went off to make my husband's but came back a moment later because she forgot what she was getting. Since it was 85 degrees out I started on mine before it melted. Another five minutes goes by and she comes back with the wrong sundae. She added some peanut butter sauce after I complained but no peanut butter cup pieces. By now we just wanted to leave. He ate his entire sundae in the time it took her to figure out how to ring up the order. I know these are summer jobs for teens, but maybe take more time to train them. I love the mint chocolate chip, raspberry chocolate, and double chocoalte chunk. Milkshakes - they will make you any kind of milkshake that you want. You can use any of the flavors and fruit that you want. The employees are always friendly and courteous. A couple items to note: 1. Bruster's offers doggy dishes for our furry friends. Small scoop of vanilla ice cream with a dog bone. Free with purchase. 2. They have a frequent visitor card that is free. 3. If you take anything to go they will separate the ice cream and the toppings such as hot fudge. 4. They offer a day camp in the summer that shows the children how to make ice cream.
