Love their variety of flavors, the homemade waffle cones are a must try, and their seasonal flavors are on point! The pumpkin pie was delicious but I just love all their flavors, can't go wrong with any of them. Plus the staff were so nice and gave great portions for a pretty reasonable price. Not a lot of seating inside, but some nice outdoor little tables for the summer time. This is my go to ice cream spot in the area!
My first Dave & Andy's experience and it won't be my last! I had vanilla bean heath in a waffle cone and was perfectly content. I was tempted by some of the fall flavored (sampled a few) and went with vanilla bean heath. Service was fast! There are only a few places to sit, so we opted to eat in the car. All in all a great option when looking for a sweet treat!
We stopped by yesterday around 6:30pm and there was no line. There were two people working and they were patient with us and we were able to get our cones really quickly. The inside has three small tables and a bench and the outside has two small tables and a bench to sit on. The inside used to be more colorful before it changed ownership, now it's very white and stark. My lavender coffee cream with a waffle cone was really good and the scoop was HUGE. My friend liked their cinnamon cream!
Dave & Andy's was our chosen location for a sweet treat after dinner in Oakland one evening. This tiny place is slightly tucked down a side street off Forbes. The inside definitely gives ice cream parlor vibes with fun black and white tiled floors and white and silver furniture. The staff were very friendly and let us sample a few different flavors. I ended up going with the $6.25 flight of four because I couldn't decide between all of the great options. Honestly, the flight had so much ice cream that it may have been equivalent to getting a pint of a single flavor. I actually got a lid to take some of it home and stick in the freezer for the next day. I loved how creamy and flavorful the ice cream was. You can tell they use quality ingredients. Definitely worth stopping in!
Finally got to try this famous spot. I was sad when I heard a while ago that they were closing before I got to try them and super ecstatic when I heard they'd be reopening! Today I got the coconut yogurt and banana sorbet in a cup absolutely amazing combination. Ice cream was smooth and exactly what I needed, unexpected deliciousness. It was $5.50 for two scoops in a cup, reasonable. There are small outdoor tables available.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for Dave & Andy's Ice Cream!! This iconic ice cream parlor has been scooping joy in Oakland since 1983 with over 200+ flavors made fresh in-house--and yes, they hand-roll those heavenly waffle cones right on site! After a brief closure last year, they're back and just as nostalgic as ever. The moment you walk in, you're hit with the delicious smell of fresh waffle cones being made. Each week, they feature 24 rotating flavors--core classics plus seasonal specials--so there's always something new to try. Grab a cone, cup, sundae, or milkshake--or take home a pint or two! Indoor and outdoor seating lets you soak in the old-school charm, with their classic benches adding to the vibe. I had a birthday cake ice cream in a fresh handmade waffle cone and it totally hit the spot. Also tried a mint chocolate chip milkshake topped with whipped cream and a cherry --pure nostalgia! And for the ultimate sweet treat, don't miss their dirt dessert cup: cookies & cream with chocolate pudding, Oreo crumbles, and gummy worms. A fan-favorite, especially with the younger crowd! Whether it's your first visit or your hundredth, Dave & Andy's is the kind of place that always feels like summer.
5.25$ pints for select bottom of the barrel ice cream flavors. Big steal. Best ice cream on that forbes area imo. WIDE range of flavors, all in house, creative.
New ownership and it's still in Pittsburgh PA! But still good ice cream ... smooth and creamy. I'm glad it stayed as it's been a fixture here. Nice atmosphere and clean. 1 scoop is $4.00 but if you want 1 scoop in a waffle cone it's $5.25. Two scoops is $5.50 and with waffle cone it's $6.75. The waffle cone is huge! But it tastes a little different from what it used to be ... a bit more pasty and floury ... and the m & m was still at the bottom but the waffle cone was dripping bc the hole at the bottom was too big and the m & m didn't stop the drippage. Parking is on the street via an app called GoMobile PGH Pittsburgh or you pay by credit card on the kiosk. $3 per hour.
I'll be honest that I shed a tear when I found out that Dave & Andy's was closing. Being the spot of my now husband's and I's first date 11 years go, this ice cream shop means to much to me (even so much that we had wedding photos taken there!). But then a few months later when I found out that a couple was taking over and reopening the shop after just a brief few months-long hiatus, more now happy tears were shed! We stopped by on a recent visit to Pittsburgh to enjoy a scoop and relish the memories. The decor was still the same, and the menu was pretty much still as extensive. It was fun to chat with the new owners and college students staffing the shop. My husband and I both really enjoyed our scoops, feeling like the quality was quite similar as was the quantity and price. We're so happy that Dave & Andy's is back open and just as good as prior - we cannot wait to revisit on future trips to Pittsburgh and relive where our relationship first started!
I was super excited to try Dave & Andy's after I heard all of the hype around it, but it was a disappointing experience. They only allow you to sample one flavor, which is frustrating because most of their flavors are hit or miss. Some flavors are very weak and practically tasteless, so if I sample a disappointing flavor, I'm hesitant to commit to actually buying a scoop. They are conveniently located in Oakland and offer large portion sizes for their prices. I might try this place again but other ice cream shops are more consistent
Pumpkin pie and Turtle flavors are both nice and smooth. Turtle flavor tasted like a chocolate mix with some nutty flavor. The waffle cones are freshly made. A lot of traffic in this location. Services are speedy and nice.
It is with great sadness that my favorite Oakland ice cream shop closed after 40 years of service ! You will be deeply missed !!
on our midwest road trip, we have been trying the "best ice cream" in each city. pittsburgh has a lot but dave & andy's seemed to be a top choice. small interior. past reviews said only 1 sample but i asked for 2. service was okay. personally i did not think the ice cream flavor selection and taste was anything special. pricing: double for $5.14 (fairly average) flavor variety: there is an okay amount of flavors to choose from on their menu, from ice cream to yogurts to sundaes. they accommodate dietary restrictions. flavor uniqueness: i don't think dave & andy's had many unique flavors. many were pretty traditional that you can buy in a grocery store. when paying for ice cream at a shop, i gravitate toward unique flavor combinations and homemade flavors (ex: jeni's and salt & straw), so i was disappointed in this category. // flavors // oatmeal raisin cookie: i ended up getting this flavor because it was the better out of the ones i tried. it tasted as expected, and pretty sweet. didn't really have the creaminess and bigger chunks of cookies that i was looking for. chocolate raspberry: this one was also okay. it had chocolate and subtle raspberry, but was more on the milk chocolate side and was missing flavor depth to me. could have been better if it was darker or bittersweet chocolate with a stronger raspberry flavor. overall, flavors and ice cream were not memorable to me so i would not revisit.

Went in on a Monday afternoon wasn't sure if they were open because I didn't smell the smell of waffle cones down the street like I used to when I was a student at Pitt! It also Thanksgiving break so not a busy ice cream time. Ended p getting a sundae and enjoyed it (you can pick any flavor of ice cream for sundaes). $8.50 for a speciality sundae which is about average these days. The service was great. We were waitied on immediately, asked if we wanted to sample any flavors.. I personally just wish they had more fall/winter seasonal flavors instead of lemon cookie and other flavors that remind me more of summer. But they did have a nice selection of flavors (three cases full) and they the typical selection cups, cones, sundaes and milkshakes. They do not accept cash! It's an Oakland staple, glad they've remained open and in the same spot all these years. read more

4.5 stars. Dave & Andy's is a local ice-cream shop that was founded in 1983 and makes all of its ice creams on the premises. I was a customer here one time. As soon as I entered the shop, an employee very kindly spoke with me. She patiently waited while I decided which flavors of ice creams to order, and she offered me free samples. Almost a couple dozen flavors were on display (e.g., pumpkin Oreo, strawberry, fruit cocktail, chocolate s'mores, keylime pie, Heath, and cookie dough). I ordered a cone with one scoop of Nutter Butter ice cream (5 stars) and one scoop of Oatmeal Raisin ice cream (4 stars). It cost several dollars. These scoops were a very large size and tasted good to excellent. I enjoyed my ice-cream cone. Some indoor seating was available. As I was leaving the shop, the employee thanked me and wished me a good day. One recommendation is to paint the walls a fun color other than white. read more

I had my first and last ever scoop from Dave and Andy's this past week. The owners are retiring and the business has closed, but for what it's worth, I just wanted to commend the team for their extremely hard work and dedication during closing week. Some of my Pitt alum friends convinced me to try it and I'm sad I didn't sooner. The line was wrapped around the block each day and yet the staff still had smiles on their faces and were so helpful. The cookies and cream was delicious and we were able to get a pint of the vanilla almond caramel upon recommendation from Wes. So, kudos to all who worked here and happy retirement! I know it's a big loss to Oakland but I'm happy I got to experience a small piece of this special local business many of my friends have loved over the years. read more

Stumbled upon this gem on a warm night. The line was out to the sidewalk but so worth the wait. The birthday cake was my favorite birthday cake ice cream since they use actually cake chunks instead of just sprinkles like some places. My parents love that they have "no sugar added" options of ice cream (mint chocolate chip and butter pecan). Perfect dessert to walk around with. read more
I heard that this mom and pop ice cream shop is pretty popular so I had to try it out myself! I didn't realize how many recognition/awards they have received over the past two decades and their ice cream definitely lived up to the hype! I think they have different flavors every day. I very much enjoyed the kahlua cookies and cream! The kahlua liquor flavors came through nicely but in a subtle but creamy, sweet way. The cookie bits were similar to ones in your typical cookies and cream but they were very generous so I loved the high ratio of cookies to ice cream base. All of their ice cream is home made but if you go at the right time you can really see them prepping the ingredients. If you like cones, they have 3 options: cake, sugar, or waffle cone. I got my ice cream in their waffle cone, which was more like a wafer instead. It was thin and crunchy! Loved how big the servings were! Even a small size seemed like a medium/large at other places. Also loved the old school ice cream parlor decor with small counter top/chairs, benches, and colorful but washed out murals on the walls. If I was in Pittsburgh again, I'd for sure come back!! read more

Back in my undergraduate days, the Dirty O and Dave and Andy's were major components of my food pyramid. Not many food options were available in Oakland at that time. Fast forward a few decades, COVID-19 hits and cancels all of my traditional holiday plans (Phipps, Museum, PPG, etc). Scrolling through my social media feed, I see a post from Dave & Andy's about Peppermint ice cream is being made (see enclosed). It stirred up memories of my college days sitting on milk pails eating ice cream. I kidnapped a friend's children for an impromptu roadtrip on a school night. Where are we going? Have you taken us there before? Give us a hint... We walked in and a cheer was raised for ice cream. After they debated on cake, sugar , or waffle cone, being the smart adult ... let's get pints that you can eat at home (v. sticky fingers in my car). We ordered 7 different pints of ice cream. The bill was just over $40. We delivered chocolate chip cookie dough to their mom at work. She said it was the most incredible ice cream she has ever eaten ... I can't tell you the other flavors they picked. I know I went home with pints of cinnamon and peppermint. If you've had the upside down apple pie at McCormick & Schmicks, you've eaten Dave & Andy's cinnamon ice cream. It is just perfect. I haven't tried the peppermint ice cream yet. It's calling out to me from the freezer. Through the entire decision-making process, the young lady serving us was patient and kind. Flavors were debated before being ordered with military precision. The kids had a nice roadtrip. I reminsced of the "good old days". We supported a local small business owner. It was a great evening. Today, I received a call from the youngest child telling me they are available for another trip to Dave & Andy's. read more

best ice cream in Oakland!!!! Also... their prices are unbeatable. They make their ice cream flavors every morning! Soooo creamy and good. The small cup is the perfect amount and I always get two different flavors! I just moved to Pittsburgh and I've been about 5 times already! Already waiting until I get to go again... read more

Good old-fashioned scoop shop with a decent array of flavors. I chose to go with the Hokey Pokey after asking about the flavor, as it was difficult to decipher from its name or appearance. Described as a honeycomb/toffee in what appeared to be a sweet cream base, the flavor reminded me a little of the seafoam candies that some tourist-town confectioneries carry. Generous scoops and efficient service in a small, charming shop! read more
A local gem is what Dave & Andy's is! A good friend of mine recommended the place to me and when I was in Pittsburgh I made sure to stop by. The inside of the store is very modestly decorated, as with the outside, with a few small tables and a counter area. Besides the relatively large sign, the place can be easily missed but you should DEFINITELY NOT miss it!! I tried a couple of flavors and went with the Apple Pie Yogurt and the Peanut Butter Chocolate. Truthfully, I was very much blown away by how fresh and plentiful the mix-ins were!! You could taste the big pie chunk and apple pieces in the Apple Pie ice cream in every bite. Similarly, the Penut Butter Chocolate had a smooth and strong chocolate flavor with plenty of peanut butter pockets and even actual peanut pieces. Everything worked well together and every bite tasted as good as the last one. Sitting there for awhile, I saw a constant stream of customers coming to get their share of delicious treat. I'd love to be a frequent at this place but sadly I live on the other side of the country, sigh. Anyway, I'll always stop by Dave and Andy's whenever I'm in town! read more
Definitely recommend this ice cream! Good options including ice cream, yogurt and sorbet. Generous scoops, and fresh made waffle cones available. Large, 2-scoop cone is about $5--pretty good for what I've seen locally and has remained stable through recent price flux in many surrounding restaurants. If you like ice cream, stop by and try this place! read more

I lived in Pittsburgh (Economy) from 08-10 and we discovered Dave & Andy's on Yelp way back when we first moved there. It's on the Pitt campus in Oakland (not Pittsburg, according to the locals) and it would be a mistake to be in the area and not get some, regardless of season! Homemade waffle cones send Heaven's aroma down the street. Rum Raisin sounds weird but don't sleep on it. It's amazing! read more

Local favorite of UPitt students :) Small (single scoop) || $3.04 Large (double scoop) || $4.44 The birthday cake ice cream here is all the rage; however, I opted to try the chocolate chip mint since that's one of my favorite flavors. You can definitely taste the difference in terms of ice cream quality here! The ice cream is soft, creamy, and delicately light. Made in-house. There are also froyo options available too and other goodies. If you're in the area, give this place a try! read more

Dave & Andy's has a long line, especially in the summer, but also offers great selection of ice cream...the line moves quite fast, so it's not a problem (although if you happened to stop by on a rainy day, I wonder where you can sit, because seatings are very limited here). The ice cream here are quite good..I like that it's homemade...they offer traditional ice cream flavors and pretty much a mix and match of western ingredients. I did find their ice cream there a tad too sweet for my taste, but nothing beats local, homemade ice cream..so that's what I appreciate about Dave & Andy's! P.S. I like that they put a small m&m into a waffles cone to prevent the melted ice cream from running out of the waffles cone. The waffles cone are a tad easy to crack..so you better be careful when eating them...all in all though..it did stop all the craving for ice cream I had for that day, and I wouldn't mind stopping by here again either. read more
