Would like to give this place 4 stars. Came here late at night on a Friday. Wasn't crowded at all. Very nice interior and decor inside. Very comfortable. Live music, excellent vibes for a more relaxed and chill night. (Not very much into clubs and loud music anymore) What was lacking was the service. I get it, it's late at night and it's seat yourself, but just would have liked a little more attentiveness from the staff. We had to ask for menus, and sat at our table for some time before our server came over. Didn't eat much of the food, but the menu seemed like your typical bar food selection with a few twist. I ordered the monkey bread dessert, that was it. I would definitely say stop by here if you're in the AZ area. A different take on night life. But the service was just a little lacking for me, so maybe come with some friends and be very patient. read more

What a cool place! Culinary dropout was one of my favorite watering holes in the area. With ample parking and HUGE seating areas, this place is great for groups. I came in the afternoon on a Saturday and didn't have any of the service issues that other reviews have mentioned, but could understand with such a huge place how on crowded nights, it could slow a bit. Still, being surrounded by such cool ambiance, I would find it hard to find something to complain about as once you get your food and drinks, you'll love it here. Especially with fire pits and outdoor couches, it's a comfortable place for big parties and a great happy hour location. Came here Monday around 2 pm, we were seated immediately however it took our waitress about 20 minutes to come to us, and since we had enough time to look at the menu we ordered food as soon as she did, as well as waters. At the time I was going through a health thing and needed water like asap which i know the waitress didn't know so maybe it was my fault for not asking her to rush it.. but we didn't end up getting our waters like 15-20 mins AFTER the first initial contact. It took so long our food got there before we got waters and i was only disappointed in this because the place wasn't busy and half empty (hence why there wasn't a wait). Been here many times but came for lunch today. Love coming here for any occasion. Came for the 4th of July earlier this year as well great happy hour and really yummy cocktails. Definitely need a reservation during busy time but they were able to have us seated right away today at lunch. I got the steak salad and it didn't disappoint. When we arrived we were sat at a table right away, but no wait staff approached us for over 10 minutes. We stopped a Gentleman who was running food passing by our table and asked him if he knew where our server was. He deeply apologized for the miscommunication and immediately started to wait on us. He bought us a round of appetizers and did not let us go for the entire evening, even offering dessert at the end. He owned the situation instead of moving us to the original server. He took amazing care of us and turned the initial situation around completely. His name is Hunter, and he should be applauded for the amazing service, and the way he made the entire evening effortless. He is amazing at what he does. Whether I am with my boyfriend, my family, or a large group of friends and family for a birthday dinner, Culinary Dropout is a go-to restaurant for any occasion. I have only positive things to say about Culinary Dropout as it has significantly exceeded my expectations in a restaurant. To start, my roommate and I had a joint birthday dinner on March 19th at Culinary Dropout. We invited a group of about ten friends, and both of our parents came since they were in town for the weekend. Culinary Dropout is located inside the Yard at Farmer Arts District, and we were seated in the outside patio area of the restaurant. The outdoor area of the restaurant is very spacious, and guests are able to claim the couches and chairs for their parties without a reservation. My dad and grandpa went to the restaurant earlier in the evening in order to claim a couch in the outdoor area to accommodate our large party. The ambiance of Culinary Dropout is unlike any other restaurant. For instance, guests are able to play cornhole, foosball, ping-pong, and shuffleboard in the outdoor area as well while they wait for their food or their table. Further, the restaurant atmosphere is hip, lively, and loud. The inside area of the restaurant looks very similar to a gastropub and even has a small stage that cover bands perform live at on weekends. The outdoor area of the restaurant feels like a college bar on Mill, including two bars, large couches, several large TV's playing sports games, and an area for guests to play games. Unfortunately, the downside of choosing to eat at Culinary Dropout is that the restaurant always has significantly long wait times, so a reservation for any party size is a must. At the birthday dinner, our group ordered the Soft Pretzels with Provolone Fondue as an appetizer, and it is one of the best items on Culinary Dropout's menu. When the appetizer was served, the soft pretzels were warm, and the provolone fondue was perfectly melted. This appetizer always gets eaten in a very short amount of time because it is very delicious and not too heavy. The menu is not very extensive, but it offers a wide variety of foods and drinks. Most importantly, Culinary Dropout offers options on their menu for people with dietary restrictions and allergies. Whenever I eat at this restaurant, I try to order something different every time because their food is phenomenal. At the birthday dinner last Saturday, several of the girls and I ordered the Beer Battered Fish & Chips which is one of Culinary Dropout's most popular dishes. This was the first time I ordered fish and chips from Culinary Dropout and it was probably the best fish and chips dish that I have ever eaten. The beer battered fish was perfectly cooked, and the fries were very delicious, crispy, and lightly salted. The pricing of the food and drinks on the menu are considered to be overpriced for some; but in my opinion, the pricing is very fair because the food is exceptional compared to other restaurants. The fish and chips dish that I ordered at the birthday dinner was $16.50 which I believe is a fair price point because the dish was relatively large and I was able to take a lot of it home for leftovers. The service at Culinary Dropout is incredible. The waiter that served us was very patient with us and was very friendly. The waiter suggested several dishes and appetizers for us to consider ordering. I was really appreciative that our waiter did not hover over us because our group was not in any rush to leave and we were enjoying our time there. Our appetizer and entrees were both served to us faster than expected even though we had a large party. Our waiter also brought out two monkey bread desserts for both my roommate and me with candles on them so that our group could sing Happy Birthday to us which was super sweet. I am always impressed by the friendliness of the waiters at Culinary Dropout, and I believe this restaurant has great service. Overall, I gave Culinary Dropout five stars out of five because of the fun atmosphere, phenomenal food and drinks, fair price points, and excellent service. I recommend Culinary Dropout to anyone who is looking for a fun restaurant with great food in the Tempe area! Just be sure to make a reservation in advance to avoid long wait times. What a fun, quirky, comfortable space! I love the mismatched seating and the industrial touches. The onion dip and chips were tasty and I had the chicken sandwich. The bacon was a bit smoky for my tastes, but it worked with the sandwich. I didn't take a lot of pictures, but I did take one of my drink. Beer snobs might stick up their noses, but this girl, me, likes a non-beery beer. It tasted like strawberry lemonade! I would go back just for the Deviant Behavior. It'd be phenomenal as beer cheese given the environs. We had the chitterlings which the naive young woman serving us pronounced "chit-ter-LINGS". it's not her fault. That's how it's spelled. But these chitlins' were tasty. He had the turkey pastrami. It had good flavor and a healthy portion. I had the fried chicken. It's crispy, yes. Even bordering on burned. But it's bland! I wish they'd have served some hot sauce. The mashed potatoes felt too smooth like instant. The biscuit would have been better if warm. I was really looking forward to eating here, it was one of the spots my boyfriend and I marked as "must try" but it simply didn't match our expectations. First of all, the food took so long. My boyfriend had 3 beers before we even got our appetizer and another 3 before our food arrived. Even paying for everything took a long time. The best thing we had were the pretzel bites with cheese. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was so bland, the bread was cold but greasy, the potatoes were too salty. We also tried the breakfast burrito. This thing was covered in what I think must have been nacho cheese or something. Came with a salsa that had no spice. This too lacked flavor, the tortilla was what you could taste the most out of everything, too. We brought our baby to brunch/lunch. There was 3 items on the kids menu, chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese and a burger. No "brunch" items, granted, this isn't the kind of place you should take kids to. My daughter was mortified when she seen how the girls working here were all dressed like 3 sizes too small, saw 3 different servers with shorts that barely covered their butts, one dressed like a school girl, again a tiny skirt, another with a super short dress. Had not even gotten seated when she pointed it out. Definitely not family friendly. Maybe the type of place you go for drinks so the food tastes more appetizing but I simply wouldn't bother, Philly's has way better food than this place. Found this spot on Instagram and the portions looked huge so I knew my fiance would be a fan. Was very happy with our waiter who recommended the in-house brew which was 20% off during happy hour(along with the rest of the brews). We almost ordered three plates but were glad we didn't only because we would not have been able to finish it all! As it was, I packed up almost half of my order of wings. We went to this restaurant for the first time after a bike ride along the Tempi Town Lakes, and we're really happy we did. There was four of us, and all of our meals were excellent. I had the Roasted Salmon and it was perfect, nice and thick and flaky. Another had the Shaved Prime Rib Dip and it was just as good - we got ranch dressing with it, and we all agreed it was the best ranch dressing we'd ever had. The prime rib itself was thinly sliced and tender and juicy. The other 2 meals were just as delicious, and we all ate until the plates were clean. The service was great as well. We started with pretzels and fondue and it was very good, I ordered back tea and it was below average. My wife ordered the nachos and the cheese was the same as served as fondue with the pretzels, as you can probably imagine the flavor did not match the chips as it did with the pretzels. I had a sandwich and the tomato and meats were good, but again I felt that it had a taste that just seemed a bit mismatched, I could not pinpoint what it was. Doesn't get any better when you order the Korean Ribeye cap. Obviously not for everyone, but those who are, it is a must have when you visit. I ordered mine medium rare. From plate to mouth, there was no need for extra seasoning, but it doesn't hurt to add a splash of pepper or salt in each bite (again, depends on your preference). The sweet chili, brown cap mushrooms, bean sprouts, etc., make the whole combination of flavor a major win on the palette. Rice is also included, so you should not feel hungry afterward. I certainly did not. The quality is spot on, which makes for a great evening experience, granted your party is of top quality as well. That's your responsibility. read more

Great place to come with a large group or for a date night! I highly recommend you make a reservation as it is always busy no matter what day it is. The pretzels and cheese are the best item on the menu. You could easily make a meal of them paired with a few drinks. The service is always on point and the staff go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. Finally got to give this place a try on our most recent trip to Phoenix! Absolutely loved the outdoor vibe of the restaurant. The amount of activities (corn hole, shuffle board and ping pong) make it perfect for spending hours hanging with friends of even bringing your kids to enjoy a night out. This location is super close to ASU which is perfect for the pre/post game hangout. We didn't know what to order so we got everything! Our food and drinks were delicious! I got the rotating sour and my friend got the mango white claw mixed drink! We did a build your own charcuterie plate, the onion rings and the chips w/onion dip. OMG the brie with pistachios and strawberries was so good! The onion rings had a perfect crispy exterior and the chips/dip were so incredibly good! That onion dip needs to be served with everything! We did salads for our entree because of course we were stuffed and it was hot outside (AZ in june)! Both the salads were full of fresh veggies, crisp lettuce and delicious dressing! Bonus for the large sprinkles of salt to top it all off. 5 stars - Grilled cheese sliders: cute pair of squares of the sandwich. - Milk for kids: huge pint sized one in a plastic cup with a lid. Usually my lil guy guzzles down the tiny cup they give him and needs a refill.
