We rented a storage unit here and it was great! Our unit was curbside (I think all units here are), which made moving in and out very convenient. It is very secure, and seems really well run. Everyone in the management office was helpful. If we ever need storage again in San Diego, we'll be going back to CubeSmart! read more

CubeSmart Self Storage - Loaded storage, 10x20 - Self Storage Near Me - San Diego, California

This company and storage facility is terrible. Do not store your belongings here. I had a break-in at my storage unit, and the company was awful in responding and helping with the situation. This response was led by the district manager, Frankie, and the vice president, Dana, in late October 2025. It took two months to speak to either of them upon request, and the issue had to be escalated. There's email documentation of my requests to speak with them from Ron and Aza, both of whom work at the facility. I also have video footage from when I first witnessed the break-in. One of the employees was so appalled that he offered to help me pick up the pieces while on the job. Ultimately, I wanted to know what the company would do about the situation, as I did not feel comfortable making payments after the break-in. I expressed the damage caused and the effects of poor management. This company is a poor representation of customer service and care. Legal action is pending because I've visited their facility multiple times and seen the gate open after hours, compromising security. They have terrible surveillance and none in the hallways of the storage units. It's very poorly run and managed. They seemed to care little about the break-in. My experience with Frankie was disappointing; she was insincere about my situation and did nothing to resolve my needs. The same applied to Dana, who sided with Frankie after filing a complaint and disregarded my concerns entirely. I regret storing my belongings here and plan to leave as soon as possible. My advice is to avoid this company. Dana did nothing but support Frankie during our call after I took more time out of my day to explain the discrepancy. She claimed to be seeking a resolution but offered absolutely nothing. The only thing she did was side with her employee, which is unfortunate. This has been the worst display of customer service I have ever witnessed. She had nothing to offer for a resolution. This matter was escalated multiple times, and I filed a complaint against Frankie for her poor display of customer service and utter insincerity in the way she spoke to me. Now my complaint extends to both Frankie and Dana for their poor customer service and care. This company ought to be ashamed of itself. Dana actually said, "you can move out if you want." Such a terrible display of customer service. Stay away from this place. read more

Avoid! My unit was also broken into. The employee working at the time said it was happening often at this location. When the police arrived he told me dozens of units have been broken into, with thieves breaking through connecting walls of the units and knocking down doors since they are made so poorly. Ultimately, nothing that was stolen was covered by insurance since there are no security cameras in the hallways. The police specifically informed me that they have told CubeSmart to install more security measures and they have refused. I would NEVER have stored my stuff here if I knew the risks involved. Additional side note, there are a lot of creepy people in the facilities and I can infer are sleeping there. As a young woman I felt extremely unsafe on the property. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM CUBESMART 5206 Eastgate Mall, San Diego, CA 92121 Sorrento Valley I was a loyal customer at this location for over 5 years and had insurance on my unit from the beginning--something the original manager (who was later fired for fraud and misconduct) personally set up for me. I trusted this facility with my belongings. Huge mistake. Not long after that manager was fired, my unit was broken into. I had a Master Lock and a second lock purchased from CubeSmart itself. Neither was cut or damaged--whoever got into my unit either had a key or access. It was clearly an inside job or serious negligence. What's worse? I called the facility and corporate office multiple times. Left voicemails. Not one call back. Not even an apology. I was told they would review security footage--still nothing. No follow-up. No explanation. Nothing but silence. To make matters worse, they still charged me rent after my unit was broken into. No grace period. No concern. Just another charge on my account like nothing happened. The insurance didn't even cover all of what I lost. This place is a joke. They charge premium prices like it's some high-security location, but it's nothing but a ripoff. No security. No customer service. No accountability. Save yourself the loss, the frustration, and the disrespect. CubeSmart La Jolla is the WORST storage experience I've ever had! read more

Been at that location for probably twenty years now. Since Cubesmart bought them, rent has increased about every 6 months. At some point this summer, unit was broken into. Filed a police report last week. In the last week, it was broken into again. The police officer said this location had had over 500 theft reports. Just go anywhere else. read more

I'm active duty....A waste of money... I checked out of my CubeSmart early in Suffolk, Va and got half my money back. My storage unit in San Diego, CA: I spent over $200 a month for storage with a $19 lock I bought from the company, my storage not only got broken into, but someone left a cup of urine outside the external door which spilt on my mattress, shoes, and got on my hands. The owner refuses to reimburse. Ghetto! Do not use. read more

BEWARE! THIS BUSINESS WILL TREAT YOU BADLY. I signed a contract with them on June 2, 2025 to rent a 5'x10'x8' storage space for a rate of $77 per month. When my daughter arrived to store her goods on the evening June 11, the locker that had been contracted to us had been rented to someone else and had a padlock on it. The site office was closed and my daughter was leaving town for over three months the next morning. Over the phone, someone resolved this by moving her into a different locker, which was much bigger than we contracted for or needed. The person on the phone assured her that she would be charged the same rate as for the smaller locker that we had contracted for. The very next day, we received a new invoice with a rental rate of $132 per month (71% higher!) for the larger locker. We sent email messages and attempted phone calls, none of which were answered. They did put the rate down to 77$ for one month, but then jacked it back up to the same $132 the very next month. We sent more email messages and phone calls complaning, but all were unanswered, while they continued to automatically charge our credit card the higher rate for August and September. We finally returned to the area in September and moved out of the locker. We brought up the issue with the local attendant at the storage location, who was empowered to do nothing more than give us the phone number for "Frankie" or "Francine", her district manager. No one ever answered the phone (at least 6 times over 1-1/2 weeks), and no one ever called me back, despite the fact that the answering machine promised call backs. I finally called a different corporate number, and a few days later got a call back from "Frankie/Francine." She tried to feed me a story that the 71% increase was because of an increase in rent on the smaller unit that I contracted for and not the rate on the larger unit that we were forced into. She also claimed that 71% rent increases a month after contracting are normal and "industry stadard." I think this is a bald-faced lie by Francine! I just checked the rate being quoted o their website today. It is currently LESS than what I originally contracted for for the smaller unit and less than half of what they were charging us for the last two months of our rental. The explanation is also unbelievable in light of the fact that the rental rate increase went right back up to exactly the same price mistakenly billed for the larger unit! The district manager is a liar. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. YOU WILL BE SORRY! read more

I am a military veteran and our storage unit at this business was burglarized. We rented a unit here in July of 2024 to store some of the items from the apartment we used to rent in La Jolla, when we moved. The items were professionally packaged, and they were moved into the unit by a legitimate professional moving business. My spouse personally oversaw the move including proper locking of the unit. The unit was locked with a "high security" lock sold to us by Cubesmart. During the approximately year and a half since we moved, the prices kept going up. Last week when we arrived with our truck to pick up our belongings, we found the unit had been burglarized without any sign of forced entry. The lock that Cubesmart sold to us was on the door and appeared locked but when I tried to open it, it was obvious that the shackle wasn't actually locked into the lock, indicating that someone had opened that lock and put it back to look like it was closed. The responding police officer indicated that this has been a recurring type of crime at this business. Aside from the criminal investigation, we are also working on our own legal options as the trauma they've caused and the losses we've incurred are just shocking and shouldn't have ever happened if CubeSmart had done their part to secure the things people pay high prices to entrust them with (for instance, they have no working cameras inside the storage buildings, so these criminals were able to burglarize our unit and several others without good recordings of who actually entered the hallway and entered our unit to steal our things). The people in the office were hardly empathetic, though they did appear nervous once I told them that I'm a military veteran and that we will pursue every legal avenue I can think of for as many years as it takes for at least one of the people involved in this crime to be found and held accountable. We will NEVER rent from Cubesmart ever again anywhere in this country. read more

I've been a customer of CubeSmart from the beginning, and I'm thankful that Ron stayed with the company. He's very personable, efficient and focused on prioritizing customers. He's helped upgrading my unit latch, which has improved the access and security. He's dedication and loyalty to CubeSmart is amazing. He's the only reason why I'm still here, along with Manager Marcia. They make a great team. He is CubeSmart material and deserves a raise for making CubeSmart La Jolla great again! read more

I have been a Cube Smart customer since June 2020, when the facility on Eastgate Mall in San Diego was still managed by Storage West. The initial rent was $88 and has risen annually over the past three years to $213. I have never missed a payment, so I was surprised when I received an email this month that my account had incurred a late fee and was threatened with a lien unless prompt payment was made. Most businesses I have a relationship with have forgiveness policies for customers in good standing, but not Cube Smart. After speaking to both the facility and district managers, they refused to waive the late fee, claiming company policy forbids it. Cube Smart claims to have won customer service awards, but my personal experience does not support this. I have informed them that I will be moving out by the end of the year. read more

Horrible customer service at this location. Do not enroll in Auto Pay. They deducted me for a month of storage even though I was completely moved out of my unit 2 weeks prior to the start date. Manager refused to refund me or respond to the 2 cases customer service opened up on my behalf to look into this. read more

William the General Manager was super helpful! Thank you for helping us find our storage unit :)

Cubesmart took over my storage facility & it's downhill all the way. One of those "private equity " stunts where they scuttle away the management & attempt to cut costs. The elevators and bathrooms and even the exit gate have been shimmed in open position or just broken. They locked me "in" at precisely 10:00pm on their exit gate clock. The so called "customer service " told me to exit via pedestrian gate & take a cab. He wasn't opening it. Used to be a restroom now it's locked most of time so you need to use the gas station 1/2 mile away. Clearly the renters of storage are among their lowest priorities with cube smart. Use any other place for storage. read more

Ronnie was very helpful in recommending the proper size storage unit for my needs. He was very professional in every way including ensuring that I had received the proper refund when I moved out before the term of my contract. I have since had occasion to speak to others who had utilized storage at CubeSmart Eastgate Mall and their experience was similar. Five stars read more

I rented a unit for one month during a visit to San Diego and had a great experience with this location. Ronnie was amazing to work with! He helped get me set up quickly and worked with me to save me money where he could. Most places I have worked with try to squeeze every last dime out of you, but Ronnie communicated clearly and directly about the costs and options available etc. I felt respected and that my business was valued. Anytime I need storage in SD I will definitely give my business to this CubeSmart location. Unit was easily accessible, felt safe and was kept clean. read more
