This place is a crock. They sign you up for a cheap rate and then your rate increases 4 months later (without telling you upfront) and then increases every 6 months after that. With the amount they are charging you'd think they would at least have HVAC. Our space is located on the top floor, so the heat is almost unbearable in the summer. The elevator and hallway smell is even worse. Also, the homeless encampments around the perimeter fence is unsettling. There's nothing like making a storage run with your kid and watching people smoke crack as you get out of your car! The least they could do is put up fencing that blocks the view. Everything is dirty, smelly and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and skip this crap hole. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST. I rented a 5x10 unit for ~$80/month in June 2025. I noticed recently that the rent has increased by about 100% (doubled) and did not know about it as it was on auto payment. They said they mailed a notice to my home, which I never got. It's very telling that they send out office closure notices via email but do not send something like a rent hike via snail mail. Talked to the store manager but explained that the rates online are promotional, which ALWAYS increase after 4 months, then again several months later and so on. Basically a bait and switch practice. They do not offer any type of locked-in rate guarantee like 12-month lease term, even if you offer to pay everything upfront. The staff and manager are friendly and professional, I will give them that. But now I will likely have to move everything again given who knows how much they will increase the rate next. read more

ROPER- the assistant manager GOAT (greatest of all time) Had a really weird situation with my account where my address was incorrect. They tried sending me a physical notice that my unit price was increasing by $75 but the notice never got sent because the address was off by 1 digit. Got charged $155 for $80 storage unit without notice. When I originally called, Roper & I disagreed about the situation & I inquired for his manager to give me a call when she had time. A little bit later Roper called and left me a message in which I returned the call & was informed that Roper had helped me get my original price for the month and helped me do a few other things. Booked a 5x10 unit - ($74/ MONTH TO $148/MONTH ON THE 4TH MONTH). I had a budget set for my storage unit and after signing up for a 5x10 unit with a base rate of $74/month they randomly changed it to $148/ month. THEY DOUBLED MY BASE RATE IN THE 4TH MONTH WITH NO WARNING AND CHARGED MY CARD ON FILE ($74/ MONTH TO $148/MONTH ON THE 4TH MONTH). I'm leaving one star because they never mentioned anything about adjusting your monthly rate to a made up "market rate" after 3/4 months. The facility and the people I have spoken with have been great. It was super easy to get set up and into my storage unit. I would have given them 5 stars if I only used the storage unit for less than 90 days. Doubling the price with no warning or reason has me leaving them with 1 star. read more

Rent suddenly increased abt 63% 4 mths after one of my units was burglarized & that just feels wrong & like a slap in the face! I'm annoyed. ~~Also they won't release video footage to me of the burglary. My case is with a detective & of course detectives won't release it either. I want to give the footage to Ch 10 news since it clearly identifies the 2 men & a license plate from the vehicle they used. These men are clearly running a scam/burglary operation by renting units online only to scope out combo locks to cut & units to burglarize! ~Due to the pandemic, these men did not have to come in-person to hand over id or verify themselves to sign contacts & were given access codes to the bldg. They never stored items. They simply got access to the bldg, scoped it out & targeted multiple units. Other units were hit by the same men. It seemed like an inside job. I'm guessing these guys know someone who rents or works at an Extraspace storage facility & that's why I want to put these guys on blast in the media. SOMEONE KNOWS who they are. These guys know the office closes, but the bldg is accessible til 10p. I'm sure they realize cops won't use many resources & they may not even face jail time due to the pandemic. The SD community should be advised & warned against these 2 middle aged, white men who are targeting storage facilities & cutting masterlock type combo locks. ~Sept 2021 it seems other tenants brought in roaches or something is not right in the bldg. I saw baby roaches in the hall & my unit for the 1st time in 3 years! Not cool & I hope I don't accidentally bring any roaches home in a bag or box! ~Basically been here about 3 yrs & at one point rented 2 small units. Suddenly raising my rent to bring it up to "market value" makes me feel like they're doing this to recoup losses from the multiple burglaries & flooding! Note: They NEVER EVER told us units were being broken into over the years & maybe we should buy better locks, so mine ended up having the lock cut off DESPITE my unit basically being within sight of a hall camera close to an elevator! Oh & I suddenly met other people who told me about their units being broken into over the year & flooded after I spent more time at the property emptying & consolidating my items. Mot good to find out. Oh FYI The prior increases were about $10 per year which is pretty standard for storage. Anyway I initially got the discounted rate probably b/c I'm in the "make-shift" units they built in the narrow hallways--where the cart takes up over half the hall & it's difficult to get things in/out. I took it-as it was the only option at the time & I was desperate to store more items due to an unexpected move & impending surgery. No time to consolidate-just needed to place things. Note: The lights also shut off every 20 min in that narrow hall, which is an annoyance. The timer should shut off after an hour. I have no choice but to leave my stuff there for now & pay the higher rate. Bob, Cindy & Jordan have always been friendly & polite, but I question the owners motivations for jacking up rent on those of us who suffered losses. I wonder why maintenance is not doing better with vacuuming up trash on the floors or cleaning the bathroom! If you're going to charge us more, then at least adhere to Covid standards & keep it clean Note: The bathroom is sometimes missing soap, tp or paper towels or just simply not clean! I've now resorted to keeping supplies in my car if I notice they are out of soap. I've left soap i there 3x. Considering this is still a pandemic, that guest bathroom should be spotless & have essentials for hygiene & hand washing at all times. I appreciate having a bathroom to use but I shouldn't have to bring tp & soap or clean it Yes they need more carts! read more

DO NOT GET A UNIT HERE for SO many reasons. 1.) there are homeless people EVERYWHERE. They camp right outside of the facility in large numbers. They are scary, aggressive and dirty. It doesn't feel safe. 2.) the staff doesn't care about their customers or their jobs. THEY ARE UNDER-QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB and need training in customer service. Their office feels like a scene from the tv show, "The Office." * quick story to give an example of their incompetence - The sprinkler system on the third floor of my building was set off, all units below the third-floor experienced flooding from the floor above. I was never notified. It wasn't until going to my unit to drop things off that I realized all of the surrounding units had been Vacated and were being dried out. When I opened my unit, I was disappointed to find my items, wet and many of them destroyed. The company did not notify me of this leak, maybe if I had been notified, I could have moved my items before they were damaged. When I ask them to waive my rent for the month due to the inconveniences, they told me they would not do so and that if I had a problem I needed to go through insurance. They moved my things to another unit, but it was smaller in size (because my previous units size wasn't available) and once again they refused to compensate me for the inconvenience or provide a larger unit for equal price. 3.) the units themselves are in terrible condition. They have a dirty smell and are termite ridden. If you have wood items that you plan on storing, think twice. 4.) the rent is OVERPRICED. The rate I signed up that was affordable, but it quickly increased to the point where I was paying almost $400 a month for a unit originally started at around $200. I could keep going but I'm SO over this place that I'm going to end this review. DO NOT RENT THERE. read more

I have been renting a unit on E Main St in El Cajon for going on 2 years. They sold the unit as an internet special but after a few months they raised the rent. I am now paying 334.00 a month which is outrageous. The manager Victor is not very helpful. I recently lost my job as I have long Covid and have been unable to pay. I called him last Friday to let him know I am starting a job and will pay in two weeks. He said he was sick of me and is going to auction the contents of my unit on Tuesday at 2pm. This company is a scam many lawsuits have been won for similar issues. I am trying to talk to lawyers but do not have time. I received a call that my storage unit got broken into today, along with others in the Solana Beach location in CA. I drove down to the unit, and some of my antiques had been stolen along with tax papers with my social and bank records. I am scared for my life because these thieves now know everything about me and where I live. I was surprised to find no cameras inside the building, only outside. It's easy for anyone to go in and cut the locks. Only one person is working during the day and it's a free for all for anyone that wants to brake into the units inside like they did with mine. I was told a manager would call and no phone call after I personally ask and left a number of messages. No email has been sent either. It's like they are trying to do this all word mouth and not on paper! I was told police had been called but I have no proof it was actually reported. I was told it's California by an employee so nothing will probably happen. The lock they gave me that was suppose to be cut proof the robber has no issue cutting and all the other units. I am really shocked, terrified for my personal safety and angry. The employee didn't even offer there insurance info until I raised asked for it. Now I have to deal with the Social Security office, close banks, cancel credit cards, and the antiques that have been in my family for generations will probably never be found. I am so pissed! As far as storage facilities, go, they have all of the same features that other facilities do. I immediately went to them because they had a great value. I started off at $75 per month for a 6 x 6 unit. They didn't raise my rates for maybe six months? The first 3 times it went up, it was only $10 approx. and each of those times that my rate changed, they gave me 30 days notice. Then one month, I noticed that my bill and what was extracted from my checking account, was $142. I did not receive anything telling me that it was going up $40. I immediately called and apparently they were on lunch and so I left a message asking them to please call me back so I can find out why my bill was so high. I received no call back. I then decided to send them an email because I wanted to make sure I had the reasoning in writing and also wanted to make sure they put it in writing as to why they did not notify me of the 30 day change. I received nothing. I called again, and the person who answered, said that they would have a manager call me and did not provide any reasoning behind why it went up or why I was not notified. I never received a call. Unfortunately I had to stay with them for a few more months (wish I had been able to leave sooner, but it wasn't in the cards) and within that time I received a notice saying my rate would go up $10. I found it quite funny that they would tell me when it goes up $10 but completely ghost me when it was $40. I was finally able to find a place and it was two months for $25 and after that was $50. I immediately moved in. I contacted extra space storage and told them that I needed to cancel immediately and the woman asked the reason. I said because they raise my rates without notifying me, and, she provided no apology or explanation why. She just said she had to make sure my storage was empty and that she would send confirmation of cancellation. I told her that I took photos of the storage unit to provide proof if needed that it was emptied, and there was no lock on the door. She sounded quite shocked and I feel that if I hadn't said that, they would have taken much longer to cancel my rental. At the end of the day, there was no reason for that unit to go up in price because it wasn't at a steady room temperature. Also, prices haven't gone up for them to justify such high rates. There are no security people walking around and making sure that no one's in there that shouldn't be in there. They barely have people in the office. There is no one there on Sunday, unlike other places. If it was to hire more people or security to ensure the safety of the units, then I could see why the prices went up. But again, nothing has been added to those units or the facility that would justify everybody's rates constantly going up. And my money definitely wasn't going towards better customer service, because that was lacking to say the least. If you don't care how much you have to pay and you want a storage facility, it gives you the basics. If you want more, including customer, service, and communication when they're going to raise your rates, I would probably go to another place. Again, I expected rates to go up, but this was pretty much price gouging. read more

Not only are the owners thieves, but they work together with their insurance company to steal from people. They will enter your unit without your permission, they will love your belongings and not tell you, and they take no responsibility for anything you might be missing. And then their insurance company will deny your claim and say that since your unit was entered via the key PROVIDED BY THE OWNER, they can not say it was burglary, and your claim is denied. You will get no compensation for the items you had stolen from you. Then to top it all off, all your belongings that you thought was safe In a private storage unit that you pat a hefty price for every single month have been moved to a different unit that is half the size then the one you had originally rented. After doing a little of my own investigation I have learned that I am not the only person this has happened to and it actually happens quite a bit. So beware! The facility is not clean there is very little signage to show where to go or how to find your unit. I ended up just cancelling my unit because when I arrived there was still someone's items in the unit I was paying for as well as the unit was not cleaned at all. When I asked if there was any other units I could switch to I was told that the other one they had available would be costing me 300$ extra from the original unit I was trying to get so absolutely not worth the value or anyone time to use this facility. read more

While I acknowledge the right to adjust pricing, such a significant increase in such a short rental period seems unreasonable. had a horrible experience but I am glad I did. I been looking on and off for parking spaces and maybe a storage space. Finally when I made a decisions I received pricing on two units I wanted to go with. The employee stated he can hold them for me I was very transparent on the timeline I needed. He did say they may get rented out but should be fine ( based on my timeline which was 3 days longer then their hold time). I said ok. I came back the day I stated. And apparently the space that I chose that day has been booked for a year. I was upset about that they presented two other parking spaces ( that were smaller) I ended up settling with. But then they switched the price on me ( double the price). It was a complete bait and switch. I stated my frustration and they said there was nothing they can do. Really? What would have happened if I decided to rent that space that day? Also they had ongoing promotions I asked about. It was always offered to me prior and they said " they have no idea what I was talking about" This promo was talked about from the call center as well as the original employee that helped me. At that point while dealing with this unprofessional customer service I looked up their reviews. And of course as expected I saw similar reviews. Not only did I see that but I saw the issues with THEFT. That's a deal breaker for me. If I am paying for storage I expect my things to be safe. Saving a few bucks is not work getting my stuff stolen. I will keep my business with my current place which has EPIC security each unit has its own alarm system if you do not check in it will go off. When you check out it sets again. I asked if they have this service and they looked at me crazy. Maybe if they knew what I talked about and implemented the same business practice they would not have a 2.5-3 star review business. read more
