We had a great experience with 1st choice movers from beginning to end. They responded quickly to our Yelp request came out to the apartment and gave us a good faith estimate ($715 - $827), which included labor, gas, packing, additional services and a $25 discount for using Yelp. The actual cash price was $1080 all said and done without tip. They lose one star which is fair for missing the estimate. Reason was the move took longer than the estimated time. The company sent out a dynamic duo in ISAIAH and ALI! They were professional and efficient insuring everything was wrapped. I mean really wrapped well. The value of a good mover is invaluable knowing your stuff is in good hands. Everyone has the nightmare story of movers. This was far from that experience. I hired 1st Choice Movers for packing services before a move. A valuable watch (~$20,000) went missing after their crew was in my home. The crew handled items I specifically told them not to touch. Every other item was accounted for except the watch. The owner was initially cooperative, then went silent for days. When he finally responded, he denied responsibility, refused to help resolve the situation, and cut off communication. A police report has been filed and a complaint has been submitted to the Bureau of Household Goods and Services. I would not recommend this company. Jerzey and Wes were great in my move. They were super helpful, let me rearrange things, and had great energy. I'd trust them again! The only thing I would say is that my desk went missing when moving. It was falling apart so that was kind of my bad but I did have to message the owner to ask where it went. Apparently a trash truck had picked up the desk and some of their equipment which is super unfortunate. Overall, they made my move feel good, especially Wes. I've used this company several times in the past and always had great experiences -- until now. This most recent move was incredibly disappointing. The movers dragged my furniture across the apartment instead of lifting it, were extremely rough with my things (one of my dressers ended up broken), and were loudly thumping and scraping furniture down two flights of stairs at 9 a.m. on a Sunday. I was mortified my neighbors had to listen to that. They left scratches in my old apartment and scuffed the floor in my new one. First off, we spent a lot of money hiring these guys. It was bad. We had used their services 3 years ago and that crew back then did an incredible job. This time it was not that good. These are some of the problems we noticed. 1) I had a smallish electrical motor that weighs about 25 or 30 lbs. I remember the guy who was moving remarked how heavy it was because he had dropped it almost on his foot. Later I found that motor dropped into a box marked fragile. It broke several expensive items inside. 2) they failed to move several things from the old house that I had clearly indicated needed to be moved. 3) they did $500 additional damage to our dishwasher by putting a huge deep crease dent in it...then denied it. The owner decided to not do right by us. 4) they wasted their bosses moving materials. I found several discarded plastic wrapping rolls in the trash at the old property and the new property that were practically unused. I'd be pretty upset if my employees were wasting so much overhead and ruining my reputation. Beware of hiring these guys. They seemed more interested in joking around than doing a good job. read more

This company was the most professional of all the others I surveyed. I liked their website and documentation. Derek responded immediately, provided detailed information so I could reasonably estimate the expected cost, and then provided detailed receipts showing the computed costs when all was done. I found out later that Derek closely monitored the packing and moving through his team leaders. We were just moving locally. The four-member packing team showed up on time and surveyed the work. The lead packer divided the job to each of the other members and they got to work. Based upon the excellent condition of all our stuff during unpacking, they did a quality job. I really appreciate the labeling on the boxes so they were unloaded and placed in right locations. They had a great attitude and were at times singing together while working. On the day of the move, the guys showed up on time and with two trucks and great attitudes. They loaded everything carefully. It took longer than anticipated but they stuck with it. On the far end they made short work of unloading. I greatly appreciate the care they took going up the stairs, around corners and through tight hallways. As retired military, I've had to move from duty station to duty station. In all, I estimate I've moved at least twenty times. If I could give 6 stars, I would! You, dear reader, are looking for a mover. LOOK NO FURTHER! My experience with 1st Choice Movers was first class from beginning to end. I'll start with the beginning. I sent out inquiries to several moving companies. From all except Derek at 1st Choice, I got a generic email that required me to add up their costs based on my best guess to arrive at an "estimate". Derek responded immediately with an email confirming that my date was available and if I sent him a few photos of my home, he would be able to give me a close estimate for packing and moving. I decided to hire 1st Choice Movers because of Derek's timely responses to my questions and his detailed estimate. About 10 days before our move, we found out our new home's renovation was not going to be completed in time for us to move in. We would have to move our things into a POD. No problem at all, said Derek. The idea of packing day stressed me out. I looked at our 3 bedroom apartment and never thought it could get done in one day. Monse, Pamela, and Yessenia were packing super heroes. Everything was carefully packed and labelled. It took them the morning to finish. I was amazed. They were all personable and efficient, to boot. The day of our move came and the POD delivery was pushed back to late morning, Derek adjusted the moving crew's hours so I wouldn't pay for them standing around. WHO DOES THAT?!? It felt like I had a friend on my side. Dan, Rory, and Uriel were a dream. They were lightening fast and clearly had a system where everyone knew what they needed to do to get the work done. They were all friendly and professional. They seemed happy to run up and down stairs with boxes (haha). No complaining, no surly attitudes (which I've experience with other movers). Then we hit another obstacle. All of our things did not fit into the POD. We were in a pinch because we had moved things into the POD on Friday and had to be out of our apartment by Sunday night. Derek and Dan to the rescue. Even though Dan and his crew had a job in the morning, they agreed to help us again the very next day. They came and packed up the rest for storage in one of the bedrooms of our new house. In the end, what could have been a very stressful and expensive couple of days, turned out to be easier and not as costly as we had imagined.
