Absolutely the biggest joke in the history of storage. Avoid this company at all costs. I have stored for 30 years with every company you can imagine and this one is by far the worst. They have some fine print in their contracts that allows them to raise your rent anytime with zero notice. My unit was just raised 47.00 They did it once a few months ago too. The customer service reps are a bunch of smug men in India that will just hang up on you. There is hardly anyone at this location. She's gone all the time.The light sensors in the hall do not work half the time and it's pitch black. Avoid Avoid Avoid!!! read more

I started at $82 two years ago. They raised the price every 6 months. Now it is up to $150. It is the worst value for the money. They rely on the fact that you don't want to bother with moving, so they raise their price continuously. They unit is upstairs, not good access and it is not worth it. This is the absolute worst company to use for storage. I had an agent call me a white cracker over the phone and hang up, clearly racist. They dont prorate the rent even if you move in the middle of the month or last day of the month. scheduled my move out, and asked if the rent would be prorated and was charged the entire month even though 21 days the unit will be open for another person to use. This company is the worst and just steals money. The staff is rude on site, the amount of homeless people around the facility is a nightmare., save your time and money use a local storage or mom and pop run facility where they care about you. I really find this location super convenient and the price, from what I found, was better than most. The check in process is really easy. Martha is the manager there and she's really friendly and answered all of my (somewhat tedious) questions. I recently lost the key to my storage unit and she walked me through the process to replace it and gave me a recommendation to a great locksmith (Jim - he and his wife are amazing...I need to write their review as well). They get you in at a price .. 6 months they raise it 35% then 6 months later another 25% .. They depend on the fact that you don't want to hastle moving out and into another storage facility. They gouge their own customers. They keep raising prices. After this experience. Paying for storage is dumb for more than couple of months is dumb. Manage your life, look forward and stop holding on to stuff it cost more to keep than its value. Sentimental value is overrated .. Don't use Public Storage .. Specially the one on Kearny Mesa .. every 6 months at least 25% increase in addition to $15 a month insurance they force on you. read more

Wow so I'm all set to rent and do not have a California driver's license since the jack asses at allied collections at court lost it regardless I stop and wait for the 2 other people to do their business, go check out a storage unit and then start to process the application and they won't do it even with an expired passport. Wtf! I needed it yesterday and now I have to go to the DMV to get a new one in the making. Thanks for double screwing me, triple if you count the fact that they require insurance. Seems it should be a warning in advance: beware we require an ID AND INSURANCE! I'll be getting the ID and then using the free storage for a month, downsizing and moving on. Sheesh! read more

I've been a customer here for years. The last time I went to my unit the elevator was broken. Today I went and the staff member was not wearing a masked and walked right by me. Obviously, she was not enforcing masks orders on other people either (there was another guy there without a mask). Complete lack of concern for the health and welfare of customers. I signed up for a 5x10 all online. Totally 100% contactless, it was awesome! There is also an app that will allow you to open the gate from your car, otherwise you will have to get out and type in your code. I've been moving stuff in for 2 days and there hasn't been any issues, and there is always a large, flat dolly available. It's also easy to find for the main road. read more

There's a worker a lady kinda heavy set (sorry didn't recall her name) who was EXTREMELY rude! Not sure if she's new cause I have NEVER gotten treated this way at this storage. She yelled and told me as I was going through my things to hurry I have only 30 mins ? Also told me I couldn't hang out while I went downstairs to make a phone call! Etc. All I know is Mike is usually there when I am at the storage and he's AWSOME!!! Has never treated me in such a way and I pay good money! This storage is high due to most so they should really work on there employees customer service. If I pay for a unit there I shouldn't be treated like I don't belong or I'm doing wrong. read more

Not good for a long term rental. They raise your price every 6 months by 10%. So after 5 years, what was a $150 per month rental is now nearly $300. This is by design. Find a place the isn't designed to pray on people that are short term and you'll be glad you don't have to move all your stuff out to keep a reasonable rate. read more

This company raises your rent by over 20% if you stay over 6 months. This company is really Dishonest. I talked to the manager and customer service, and the customer services Manager... THey all say there's nothing they will do about it. They all said this is just what they do to every account after they stay over 6 months. I never write reviews. This is going to be a negative one. I'm an active duty Marine based at nearby Miramar, deploying soon. I arrived at 11am on a Sunday in order to reserve a storage unit, and was helped by Pat. She set up the rental well, but neglected to clearly state the ONLY gate hours in which you can access the unit. So when I arrived 5 hours later with an entire apartment's worth of stuff in a rented uhaul, the gate was closed and unable to be accessed. I then called the Public Storage call center, where 2 different customer service reps told me incorrect information on the gate accessibility and even tried providing me an wrong access code. They then proceeded to read a script on how they are unable to help. Only useful info I was able to get was the district managers contact number. Basically wasted an hour on the phone with them. I then came in the next day (Monday), and unpacked my things without trouble. After describing my difficulties to the office, they advised I call Brian, the district manager, for my complaints. We had already left him a message Sunday night (he didn't call back) but I called again on Wednesday to reach out. He answers the phone. He proceeds to tell me I should intrinsically know the gate hours since they are posted in sign form on the gate, and that they are also emailed in one of SIX emails sent that day. According to Brian, that alleviates his employees from having to tell people when they can access their stuff, since it's posted elsewhere. I was hoping to get some sort of compensation for having to pay for an extra uhaul day, and having to miss a morning of work on base to deal with this, but he repeatedly said that my situation was not a fault of Public Storage. His words were "since the information was posted on the gate and also emailed to you, Public Storage isn't going to issue any credit for your inconvenience." Brian repeated this verbatim this multiple times, and after I explained how his employee didn't tell me, his call center failed, and how it's a bit excessive to dig through 6 emails to find the most important piece of info for the whole rental, he repeated it once more and insisted that he's not going to continue to "talk in circles with me about this". People , him and his company are not interested in helping you past the point of rental. Heaven forbid if you are military and are unable to be flexible. I cannot stress this enough. If things go wrong, Brian Berg is the type of manager to blame you or others. Do not reward places like this with your business. read more

The place is well kept and very clean, I feel very secure with my belongings being stored here. After searching and looking at a TON of storage units, I found Public Storage on Raytheon Rd. I honestly would say I talked to more then 10 places, and visited at least 5. A nice girl named Tiffany showed me the unit, helped me with all the paperwork and was very helpful and friendly. Huge plus! I liked this property the best. It was in a good easy access area, the halls were wide enough for my monster couch, and it wasn't that busy. Yeah, people were moving in and out, but it wasn't a problem! Now, im moving across the country, and have no idea when I will be back, so I wanted to get the best place I could find. I was able to get the $1 first month special, which defiantly is helping with the cost of moving. Also with all of my research, they were the most affordable place to rent from in a secure environment! read more

I had a large storage unit with Public at the Raytheon Rd facility for about 8 months as I prepped for a cross country move. My gripes are that 2 times in that period the automatic gate had malfunctioned which denied me access to my unit. They just put a sign on the gate saying out of order. I had driven 30 min to get into the unit with a load of furniture both times and had to leave and come back the next day. They should have opened the gate manually and put a person there to grant access to their customers. Instead, they put a note on the door of the office (during open business hours) saying that they are working to restore access. Another issue was the condition of the rollup door and lock. The door was very sticky and required much effort to open it. The latch seemed weak and was also sticky. I did not complain or report this to them in their defense. Lastly, I moved out of the unit Jan 1 (on New Year's Day). I had planned to move out on 12/31 but my trailer rental was delayed by the rental company costing me a day delay. I did vacate on Jan 1. I called them to ask for forgiveness or at least a partial credit for Jan 2021. They would not credit me back anything. I even spoke to the district manager and he denied the request. I was very nice and professional in my request. I am being brutally honest in this review though. So I paid the $275 for unit C143 for the whole month of Jan when I was vacated by 12pm on Jan 1. Rented a 5x10 storage unit with the help of Mike, the property manager. He was very helpful and kind. Was glad they were still open, despite the Covid 19, he had gloves and a mask on per company policy. Great space, easy access to drive car into the gated storage area to unload, they also have carts we can borrow. The storage is clean and the account was easy to set up. I set up my account online where they had an offer for $1 for the first month. Mike called and showed me the storage unit the same day. Only thing that took me by surprise was the mandatory insurance we had to get for the unit which was an extra $10-$11 a month, but price is still affordable. read more

Elevator has been down 3 times in the last month. Called twice about it and hear the same excuse both times. Blames people for dropping screws down in the track. Really hard to get your stuff out of storage on the 2nd floor in a building with over 600 units using one elevator. read more

The facility is dated, there are no lights in the units, there are wood floors that allow you to see into the units below, and I had an issue with water leaking into my unit just to name a few issues. It was raining when I noticed the leak and I brought it up to the woman at the front who didn't seem to care at all, she said she could put in a maintenance request but it could take some time, meanwhile it was currently raining/leaking. Only after I pushed for an actual solution did she offer to rent me a different unit, and I was still charged a fee for the day I had both units while I transferred everything over. The final straw and reason for finally writing this review is that there was a 40% increase in rent from one month to the next which they notify you through the mail instead of email (which they constantly send other updates) or the app they make you download. I've used other Public Storage locations without any issues, but this facility is the reason I will not use this company ever again. read more

It only takes a few minutes to get through the process and there's never any hidden costs or unreasonable charges. The storage spaces are clean and well maintained, but I'd recommend getting a moisture absorber as the enclosed space could trap moisture and cause mold. Though, that hasn't happened yet. We used this public storage to store a piece of our couch that was too big. The process was extremely easy, which we were grateful for after having so many moving challenges before that. I was able to do almost the entire process online - reserved my unit, scheduled a move in date, was provided access codes and clear information on everything. In addition to all of that, someone at the site called me multiple times the day after I reserved to make sure I didn't have any questions and was comfortable with the move in process. Their online system makes it easy to change dates also if needed. Very impressed with everything! read more

Nothing unsafe ever happened. The place is well located. They routinely raised the rent over 3 years from $66/month to $100/month. Then when I was ready to vacate, they refused to reimburse me for 20 days worth of rent. I could have been out on the 11th, completely. Was planning on that to get a little money back, like 60 bucks or so. But no! They make you pay them for the full month no matter the day you leave. You could be out on the 3rd! Then they will rent it to the next person right away doubling dipping on profits from the small unit. Upper management will not address this outdated business practice. That's all. If I could give negative stars I would because Pat, the property manager, has zero customer service skills. I reserved my unit 9/22 and began moving my items into my unit the next day. Not even two weeks later my unit was broken into and ransacked, and I was missing high priced items. I have spent over 5 hours cleaning and sorting through my things to find the missing items and damages down to my unit. I was called by the property manager says she thinks my unit was tampered with and I need to come by to verify that I did not have any items missing from the unit. When I arrived a new lock was put on the unit, which they said they could not do until I was present. Then they said they would contact there district manager and review the video surveillance, and since then (WHICH HAS NOW BEEN ALMOST 4 WEEKS) since the break in I have not heard a single thing from the storage unit. Today I called Pat to find out what was going on and if they had any updates. She told me it is on me to file a report with the police if I had any missing items, and to file a suit with the insurance company (which I did). Then I proceeded to ask her what kind of compensation they would provide me with since I wasn't even in the unit for barely two weeks and it was vandalized under the surveillance of their facility. All PAT could tell me was that it is on my own terms to rent a space from them. Pat proceeded to not offer me any compensation or discount on the coming months rent due to the inconvenience of what I have had to deal with. I would not recommend renting a unit from this place if you do not have too. Go somewhere else. read more

Dont do it! They got me in with a low rate, and out of no where they raise the price on me $20. No notification nothing, just discovered it when i looked at the bill. This is called bait and switch, at least thats how i feel. They get you because you've already moved your stuff in and they raise it with out your consent, who wants to move all there stuff again.
