I normally don't write reviews, but this one is well deserved. I went to the Public Storage on Sorrento Valley Road and Tomisha helped me out -- she was honestly amazing. She took the time to walk me through everything, showed me the actual units (not just talking about it), and helped me understand what size I really needed. I was thinking about getting a 5x5, but after seeing it, I realized it would've been too small. Thanks to her, I went with a 5x10 and I'm really happy with that decision. I'm a veteran, and she mentioned she comes from a military family. You can tell she understands and respects that, and that meant a lot to me. She was patient, clear, and didn't rush anything. You can tell she actually cares about helping people, not just making a sale. Customer service like this is rare these days. If you come here, definitely ask for Tomisha -- she'll take care of you. read more

I'm at the Public Storage on Kerny mesa and I've always had a great experience there. The manager Heidi has always been friendly and helpful, and she's very easy on the eyes. These people are insane! When we first rented there they called us on the Fourth of July holiday to tell us that we turned off our auto pay!! They called us twice, leaving voicemail saying that it was urgent. When I finally reached them on the holiday, they told me you turned off your auto pay. Did you mean to do that? Was it by accident? When of course it was intentional. And you can't turn it off by accident. These people are incredibly rude and disrespectful and absolutely ridiculous. We will be taking our business elsewhere. They monitor us when we take our stuff in and out of the unit. We just recently received a call telling us that we were not logged out of their system by 9 PM and we were, we left. They saw us on camera yet They still had the nerve to call us and leave a voicemail telling us to be sure to use the gate code. Wow they are beyond stupid. This is a very disappointing and dissatisfactory type of service. We pay them on time every single month even before time and yet they treat us like this. They sound like drug addicts or meth heads and I'm not appreciative of the way they're treating us. We also saw a car going in there before 9 PM right before they're ready to close. This car did not look like it was going to hurry back and get out the gate before 9 PM. So they're obviously being discriminatory and treating us a certain way I am African-American and I don't appreciate this at all. Termite infestation. Went to the storage unit this last Saturday only to discover my boxes near the door were completely infested with TERMITES. Called the office but the manager was not on duty that day. Didn't want to leave my stuff in there one minute longer so I cleared everything out. I finally talked to the manager and I asked that the least they could do was waive that month that I've already paid for since a termite infestation is unacceptable and a lot of my property had been irreparable damaged. He claimed there was no evidence of termites and basically accused me of fabricating a story. I have three storage units with Public Storage and my experience has been as acceptable as it can be given this industries track record. Today, however, I arrived to access my new unit, and the only light bulb for this 12 x 20 storage unit is missing. Ok no big deal. It happens. I walk to the office and let them know that I can't put a new bulb in (which I don't mind paying for even though I shouldn't have to) because it's 10 feet up and I don't have a ladder with me. The guy tells me next time you're here with a bulb you can borrow ours. There's literally 3 or 4 things you guys need to do and that's provide access to the building, charge me for a lock that I already have, and provide an empty storage space that I can see inside of. You guys have no problem steadily increasing the rate month after month, or charging for a lock, or for mandating insurance, at least put the damn bulb in. read more

Finally got rid of enough stuff to clear out and close the book on this chapter. Wanted to update this review as I've finally gotten rid of enough stuff to move outta this storage unit (over two years later). After writing my last review on this location, I've had only positive interactions with the various staff members here. Yes, there was the "negative" Brittany interaction. But Shawn, Danielle and now Heather have more than made up for that experience. Recently, Heather has helped reshape my vision of how this organization operates. I have greatly appreciated her helpful and informative responses to questions that I've had about closing out the use of my unit. There were plenty. She didn't make anything up and was very matter of fact about the process and if they could make any exceptions along the way. Was very straight forward and friendly at the same time. Anyway, it sounded as if they were low on available units. As of today, they'll have one more. Go chat with Heather in the office if you have any questions. If needed, I'd use them again. This location charged me $25 for a lock that I don't need. You can either use your own cylinder lock or buy one from them no exceptions.

This location is always so clean! Management and staff are also always so friendly and helpful!

I feel the employees at this location have much to be desire. I probably will discontinue my storage at this facility. The facility itself is nice, but found policies poor, false and misleading. read more

I've been here a long time, mostly because of several family issues that have kept me away. The relationship with PS is by far the worst relationship I have with any vendor. If you stay here more than a few years you will be paying 3 times what the unit is worth, from a market value. they will and have raised rent every 3 or 4 months by $20 - $30 and they know for $30 you are probably not going move your belongings. They owed me money on a previous unit for several years and still can't get reimbursed. But don't take my word for it, do your own research and you'll find a lot of very unhappy people. This road has more storage places than Seattle's got Starbucks. You'll get lost trying to find it, our friends literally did! The entrance to this one is tucked in from the street and it's got a narrow gate and parking lot. As far as storage goes it's fine, you'll find the units a bit cheaper than Solana Beach or Del Mar but I have rented at other PS locations than this one and it's on the down end of upkeep. You also have to get out of your far to enter the codes- I'm sure it's good for something like security maybe but for someone moving all weekend or just running in and out like I was, it was super annoying. We're happy with our ground level unit, easy access, but it's definitely just average. read more

BAIT AND SWITCH style to advertising. I really had a horrible experience with this place. First, when I went to check out available unit, the office manager didnt have a key to show anything. Then when I gave them a second chance, and reserved online a 9x12 unit, they advertised for $124/month, with only $26 for the first month, I went there, and they said they had two units, one was next to a field and might have problems with moisture and mice, and the other they showed was acceptable. BUT...when I go in to sign the contract for the better unit, thats when they tell you that its 20% more per month for that one. No warning on their website. I would not recommend you rent from this place, as its clear they are not honest in their advertising, and their onsite management is unhelpful. read more

Day-to-day employee(s) are friendly but not able to assist with any issues unfortunately. There's no maintenance person on property capable of even simple repairs. All concerns must be funneled up to District Manager Taylor Hill. Taylor does not follow-up in a timely manner. Always seems to have an excuse why he couldn't get back to you sooner. I'm usually told it will take several days to follow-up on even simple requests...pricing inquiries, repairs on storage unit door, etc. In my experience, more like a week or so. I rent a 9x16 unit. Rates were increased several times within the first 7 months of my initial renting date. Rate increased from $185/month to $284/month over the course of the first 7 months. I wouldn't rely on any advertised pricing lasting very long if you make the mistake of renting space here. The sliding garage door on my storage unit was damaged and off the tracks which made it unable to fully close and lock. After reporting the issue to the front desk staff I was told the issue was emailed to Taylor and someone would follow-up "in three days or so." Not much of a sense of urgency for a damaged door!? That's somewhat shocking as the only reason I pay your facility is for extra storage space & security. Well, I can't say there's very good security when my damaged storage door is accessible to anyone who may choose to enter the front gate. At this point, the only reason I continue to rent here is because it's close to my home and I need to access the unit on an weekly basis for work supplies. The property is tidy but overall I'd recommend selecting another storage facility/company. read more

Had ants and maggots in my things as well as mice/rat feces. This place is gross. The customer service is a joke. I had no food. Maggots were under my tubs on the ground and inside a flower vase I had. Very unaccommodating to the situation! Over priced for infestations in the building! Beyond disgusted! I've been renting units here for about 2 years. The access is easy. It's near the I-5 and all units are drive-up and clean. Shawn, the manager, is very friendly and helpful. I recommend checking the website for the best prices. Also, It's in an area of town where you feel safe going there at night. read more

UPDATE: Apparently the storage units from PUBLIC STORAGE on Sorrento Valley Rd get broken into almost EVERY WEEKED. ___________ This place keeps getting broken into. over the weekend the units get emptied out by thieves and the management refuses to do anything about it!!! it happened over thanksgiving weekend and again over easter weekend. from what i can tell it looks like 20-30 units got broken into the first time and 30-40 the second! read more

Horrible! THEFT!! Second time we have been broken into and management don't care. They are fully aware of the issue and do nothing about it - apparently staff have even approached management to place cameras but nothing has been done. Multiple units have been broken into within each incident . Apparently per their own staff they stated they have had numerous break ins over the past couple of weeks but no notification sent to any of their clients and no measures taken to prevent the incidences. Public storage provides a service and has an obligation to keep property safe and secure...this is negligence. Stay away. read more
