Jake the manager was nice, but the cashier Catharine was unfriendly, argumentative and a bit hostile. She refused to take a coupon, argued with me about it while not listening to what I was saying. When I spoke with Jake he said that they do in fact take those coupons. Maybe she should have consulted a manager before first trying to run me off in a condescending manner. This was my first visit here and it really gave a bad impression. From now on I'll stick with their competitor True Value who goes above and beyond for their guests and always provides great customer service. They also pick and choose who they mandate their mask rule on. I was approached and told it was mandatory and an old man who walked in before me was not. read more

They told me all the wood is the same when you can visually see some are bowing and others are cracked. I normally go to ace to grab something I need as it is right around the corner from my house. It typically has what I need and for that I give ace 5 Stars. However, this review is based off of my most recent experience there. As I stood in line the cashier, who has always been exceptionally kind and quick with what he does, asked the store manager to help with something. Normally, a store manager (who should be an example to his employees) would help, or take the opportunity to teach this young man but no, the manager treated the young man with such disrespect and spoke to him as if he had done something terribly wrong. It made me and I'm sure the other customers in line feel very uncomfortable. Now I totally realize there could be way more going on here, and I understand this employee may be on thin ice because of other issues. But whether he is or not, no manager should talk like that to his employee in front of customers and more importantly no one should ever treat or talk to another human being like that no matter what... read more

I love our local Ace store. The staff are always friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help. The other day I placed an online order for an OONI pizza oven. After a couple days my order was canceled but no reason was given. I tried several times to call customer service but wasn't able to get my answer. Then I called my local Ace and one of the mangers, Justine, did the leg work and helped me get my OONI ordered again. Thank you so much Justine and Ace. I made a call from Beaumont to ask for Benjamin Moore advance paint and ask if they carried the full line, satin in particular. I was told they did until I made the drive and they only carry high gloss. At $5 a gallon for gas, I was upset. Whoever answers the phone should know what they are talking about. read more

I went in to have keys made. Girl did a great job. However the cashier was talking to a customer while I was paying, she was talking about the presidential debate on the border and how it shouldn't have been allowed to be in Spanish. She said " really now there on TV talking in Spanish! I had to turn off my TV, it needs to be only in English, that's what we speak here. " the customer is agreeing with her and throwing his 2 cents in. While my Mexican butt is standing there . If the president or anyone in Congress, who ever etc etc is talking about the border, Mexicans, deportation, illegals Then it should be spoken in Spanish and English. They need to know what's going on and what's going to happen to them. It's like talking behind their backs as far as I'm concerned. Interpret is a better word. Either way u look at it, the employee should NEVER talk to customers like that. Racist in that store. read more

Customer service is not up to par with most Ace Hardware stores. This is the third time this year that the person seemed more bothered than interested in helping me. I also take into account that I came in with a half hour left before closing and the current employment climate, so I gave 2 stars. The worker pool is thin and a lot of the time these days you have to settle. It's just frustrating when you're spending money and the entire time the person keeps sighing because you are getting more than one item. read more

Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff who dont make you feel like an idiot for asking stupid questions. Helped me solve my pest problem without having to call an exterminator and has helped me maintain a pest free home. Some prices are a bit much than the lowest youd see else where, but thats because they stock quality product, it seems like if it doesnt work they dont stock it and i appreciate that. read more

This store is awfully handy when you need something obscure. They have always come through with bolts, nuts, and odd-shaped screws. Much more convenient than driving out to HD or Lowe's. This is the crux of my complaint: customer service here sucks. Now, I understand that you don't go to a hardware store to feel all fuzzy inside. But dealing with employees who obviously don't care about helping you can get irritating. A cashier was busy texting someone than ringing me up. I waited for about a minute for her to finish her conversation. I just think the store should do something to boost the morale of their (younger) crew. It would go a long way. read more

As I left this store recently, I found myself very grateful for it. I live only a few blocks away and don't have to drive to Beaumont or Redlands hardware stores to complete the small projects that I undertake quite frequently. I come here knowing a few things: 1) I know that I will attempt to find the items myself for 5 minutes before I ask for help (Most of the time, I am offered assistance prior to the expiration of that time). 2) This is not a 'high volume' store, so I understand that having/ keeping a huge staff is not sustainable and I'm comfortable with that. 3) When I do get assistance, I anticipate that they will have what I need. 4) I know that I will pay a little higher retail here, but it saves the trip 12 miles in either direction to save a buck or two. My time is worth more to me than that. For a store with knowledgeable staff, the things you need and a good 'mom and pop' feel, Ace will get the job done. I hope my five-star review offsets the negative reviews of others who are less understanding than I am. (Update)Taylor and Allie were awesome during my last visit. I am thrilled to say that my experience with the local Ace Hardware was as good as the one back home in La Jolla Ca. I have been in many times and have been welcomed and they facilitated every need with swift and informative style. They are no nonsense project managers. But their unique personality beams right threw. I had no problem exchanging the remaining items I did not use. And I recommend this group of competent people completely. Check your YELP offerings too as it was effective in getting me a free ceiling air conditioning filter! That was just what I needed too. No questions asked...normally $7.00! It is so appreciated to have these local support teams on our side when it comes to household repairs, and a kind down home attitude as well. So I came into crown ace with a bit of trepidation. I was told that the customer service here is grouchy, Ha! Anything but the truth! These people are absolutely wonderful and really know their stuff! Tina helped me greatly. I needed a few different things and she followed me around the store ensuring that I found everything I need. Their prices were reasonable and every person that I met there had a smile on their face :-) The only thing keeping me from giving them five stars is the fact that there were a number of items that do not have prices on them. This isn't some giant warehouse DIY store stocked with limited source brands aka Lowes or Home Depot. There's pretty much every replacement part across many brands, ever conceivable screw, nut or bolt - including metric sizes - as well as plumbing parts, hardware and a great selection of tools. My only gripe is that some of the staff aren't as knowledgeable as Sean so you can end up just finding it yourself but honestly there's a lot of knowledge in everyone's head so I'm never afraid to ask. Impressed by the paint section- quality and cost is far better than either of the big brands- and there's a whole yard full of building materials for the bigger projects. The loyalty program is worth joining as we've saved over $100 this year. Prices are a little higher than the big box but I don't have to do the long drive, deal with ill informed staff or struggle to find essential parts. Locally owned so use it. read more

Don't ever get keys made here. I had 3 simple keys duplicated and none worked. I had to go back a second time and told them to please make sure new set works. They checked and double checked and assured me it was a good key. Again i returned to the house to use the keys and none of the 3 worked again! So frustrating and it was then that I remembered the same experience at the same store years ago. I wish i had remembered earlier. Managers did nothing but offer to try a third time. read more

On New Year's Eve, a slight odor of natural gas in my old farm house root cellar prompted a call to the Gas Company. Shortly, Mike arrived and did a thorough inspection. All was safe, but we detected a small hole in my aging floor furnace casing, so he had turn shut it down, meaning no heat for the house as the temperatures were dropping to the 40s and below. I called Ace and asked about space heaters. They had several types but I could not get up the hill in time. Heather, who took the call, put me on hold. She came back to say, "We're bringing you a heater! What price range and kind are you interested in?" I told her and she said someone would be coming down shortly! That someone, who delivered it, set it up, and even declined a tip and mug of hot cider, was Joe, the store manager, himself. I did not know that until New Year's morning when I called to thank Heather and the staff for this amazing gesture when everyone was ready to go home to their families on a chilly New Year's Eve. This kind of genuine care and concern for a long time, senior customer is why so many Yucaipa and Redlands customers love their small town family owned or locally owned businesses. I can not say enough about the fantastic service I received from Haylee Bangle last weekend. I was re screening my back sliding door at first I got the material too thick brought that back and got the right material when I unrolled it found it was to short. At this point I was becoming frustrated when I got back Ace Haylee who had helped me originally and understood my situation took me out to the screen and glass room and had them cut me a piece of screen material for my door. ** Iam editing my review, because after I complained the BBB, Ace has given me a full refund. DO NOT purchase paint here. I tried to buy black paint here- I went home and the color was a navy blue/grey. I went back to Ace and had the assistant manager Joe help me. He suggested adding a few squirts of black to my gallon of grey paint. The end result was still grey. I told him that I was not happy with the paint color, but he said there was nothing he could do about it. I then decided to just return the paint and get a refund. He would not refund me my $30 stating that my paint had now became a "custom color" and they do not refund on "custom colors". I asked him if he was a paint specialist and he said yes, I explained how adding a few squirts of black to this light navy blue/grey would not work. He became defensive... and re-iterated there was nothing he could do about it. I told him I would never shop here again-even though I'am completely remodeling my home, I also told him I would be putting in a complaint to the BBB, he still did not care to help me nor act like he even cared. *All I can do is warn others not to waste money and time buying paint here. read more

If you look at the reviews before mine you will see that they all have usually 4 to 5 stars and mine would be the same but I was at Ace three times in the last week and a half and I don't know what they've done but there's no one working there anymore! Not sure what happened but a few months ago there was a huge shakeup and just about everybody that had worked there for years no longer work there managers were moved people were let go and now there's all new people there. And now the last few times I've been there I practically live at that place there's only been 3 to 4 employees in the entire store yesterday myself and many other customers were running around trying to find somebody to help us with no one available I really hope that this gets resolved soon I would hate to start going to the other place at the boulevard!!!! read more

Sooooo disappointed in this place. I have always liked ACE over the big box stores but will not be back. Took a screen in for repair. Never received a call when it was ready and when I called a week later I was told they could not find my screen. After speaking to a supervisor and then passed on to someone else, I was told they would make a new one for me. Although Ramon was very apologetic the screen they made is garbage compared to my original screen. My screen was made from strong custom made material. You can tell this one was made from cheap material. The mesh isn't tight and the frame is very flimsy. I decided to just deal with it and take it home. When I went to install it, I found there is at least a quarter inch gap on either side. The measurements were based off of what your employee took when I brought it in. I am so irritated that I don't even want to take it back. Again, used to love this tire but I will not be back!!!! read more

Called to see if they had any specials on the Traeger grills was told they had $50.00 off grills that were priced $400.00 or more. Got there and of course they said no you get a free bag of pellets ... really pellets ?! So I talked with the manager Shelly and she said that sale is Father's Day and they would not honor what their employee said! We bought the grill because we were here and have been looking but definitely no customer service skills. If your not gonna stand by what your employees say when consumers are calling in maybe you should train them to have correct info for your customers or not be on the phones. read more

I would like to support local businesses. I really would. But the people at Crown Ace really make that difficult. Their return policy is a return to the past and very inflexible. I guess we have become accustomed to a more flexible policy at other big box stores. I purchased parts for a PVC sprinkler system at two different Ace Hardware stores. One part needed to be exchanged and I took it to Crown Hardware. Even though I had my receipt, they were not about to allow me to exchange a small part ($2) for the correct item since it was purchased at a different Ace Hardware. I guess I will do all of my business at the other Ace Hardware in the future to prevent this problem from occurring again. read more
