Went to this restaurant on the recommendation of my hotel. What a unexpected pleasure to eat here. My understanding is that it's run by graduates of the culinary school. I was served the evenings special salad first. At first look it just looked a a large square pile of greens, and the dressing was just "ok" when I tasted it. After I put it on the salad and started to eat it, I found that the salad actually had layers to it, with a myriad of many ingredients- and with the dressing and the items inside- wow, all blended together perfectly! One of the best I've ever eaten. I also had the mixed grill special- ribs, pulled pork, local sausage, coleslaw, and corn bread. Everything was perfectly cooked, ribs were very very meaty, the sausage was "ok" (a little dry)- but the pulled pork- amazing! Don't waste your time going here! The food is okay and overpriced. People crowd in and wait by the door while you try to eat your dinner and watch you eat -- hoping you hurry up so they can get a table. The wait staff does nothing to control the crowd. You are rushed through an overpriced meal so they can have the table for the next diner. Not at all worth it. When I complained to management about the issue first and sent an email to the General Manager, to avoid a negative review on-line, I didn't receive a response. Not sure what they are selling in there but not worth it if you are looking for an enjoyable evening out with friends. Consider yourself warned. read more

My friend and I wanted a snack so we popped into Crew for appetizers. Place was almost empty at 3 pm. Server came right away and said she'd come back when we were ready. Saw the menu is different from Yelp's. Some things are five dollars more than on Yelp so check the restaurant's actual website for a more accurate menu. Waited and waited. No server so we asked someone if we could order and they went to search for her. I ordered the spinach dip for $13 (used to be $8). Don't do it. The only thing good about it was the one chunk of artichoke I had. Otherwise, it tasted burnt and microwaved. I ordered the chicken appetizer for $15 (says $10 on Yelp ... the days of $10 appetizers are apparently gone). It came with what looked like three small boneless chicken wings with a delicious dipping sauce. Not worth $15, since they were the size of fingers but I'll pay for tasty, so whatever. Got the side of truffled potato croquettes that said $2. Ordered two Caesar side salads, $3 each. The croquettes reviews said they were "ridiculously good" but I didn't taste truffle nor any other flavor (think thick French fries with no salt ... tater tots taste better, if that says anything, but we all have different palates, so maybe you'll find them "ridiculously good" as well). We each ate one and unimpressed, left the third. Glad I only spent two dollars on that and hey, I tried something new. The Caesar side salad arrived (on a plate, not in a bowl) and looked okay but tasted like vinegar, not Caesar dressing at all. Didn't complain cuz it was only $3, right? Waited for our bill. Waited and waited. Got up to pay. Again, they searched for our server. Our "snack" came to $80. I spoke to the waitress about the $30 upcharge and she told me I can't order sides separately so she ordered the small for us. SMH. Why didn't she inform us? Two horrible Caesar salads for $12 each and the bland croquettes i couldn't even find on the menu, other than as a side, but I was charged over $10 for that, somehow. The server was no help. I paid the bill and spoke to the manager about the upcharge and not being informed by the waitress that I couldn't order sides separately and she refused to comp even the salads, with an attitude, no less. The cost to resolve this and still maintain customer satisfaction would have been less than the cost of half a head of lettuce. They put greed over customer service. I begrudgingly say the chicken appetizer was good but the rest was money thrown out the window. wow, what an unexpected treat, in the future we will drive out of our way going north just to savor the gourmet meals at this restaurant. I had the pastured raised local chicken breast, beautiful finish on the seared skin, tender, tasty especially with the brown sugar tomato jam. the jam was so good I decided to duplicate it at home but got discouraged when I read that it would take 2 hours. Next time I am going to sit at the bar in front of the open kitchen so I can figure out how they sear the chicken. One clue is, I was warned by the waiter that it would take 1/2 hour to prepare. That's when the magic happens. Modern trendy decor and hip soundtrack if you love music as I do, lively bar crowd, open kitchen where you can feel the heat and smile at the chefs. The owner is mingling with his fans and the wait staff is moving as if on roller skates. Did I mention the food? Well they wouldn't have survived all these years if that were not its signature feature. Try the home made chips, the massive burgers, the always fresh oysters, the generous and well-stocked bar and wine cellar, and the list goes on. I've driven past this place a ton of times thinking it was a sports bar. I read some recent reviews that raved about this restaurant. Ironically during my visit I sat at the bar was greeted immediately by the bartender who was very friendly. The place is extremely nice inside nothing like what you'd expect from the outside. Hadn't been to Crew since when it first opened many years ago. It was terrific back then and still is. Happened to be in the Poughkeepsie area and drop in for dinner during a college graduation weekend so it was crowded. We sat at the bar and had dinner there. I had a Lychee Peachy Mimosa which was very refreshing. Next we ordered and shared the delicious empanadas. I followed that with an order of Ahi Tuna Tacos which were very tasty. My husband selected the Chinese Chicken Salad and couldn't stop raving about it, especially the peanut dressing (and he's not really a salad guy)! We were full so skipped dessert. The service was great. We sat at the end of the bar and could have been easily overlooked but the wait staff was very attentive. Can't wait to return- hopefully with some friends. We went for a date on a Saturday night. It was packed and we waited for 10-15 minutes with a reservation. Not thrilled but I was hungry. We were seated in a tiny room in the back that was packed. We sat behind a 4 top of incredibly loud people talking about hunting and such and directly next to a 3 top, wife not thrilled about her son's heavy smoking girlfriend with a husband who didn't want his wife touching the food on his plate. The acoustics were horrible. I heard entirely too much from the people around us, I couldn't hear my husband across from me and I refused to yell. Woman seated next to me asked me how my pate was, she leaned slightly over, that close. The food was meh, not worth what we paid. I haven't been here since my 16 year old was young and everything was incredibly salty. This time the food was not worth it and the atmosphere was terrible. It was too much for me not to be able to maintain a conversation and yet be bombarded by verbal images of a heavy smoking girlfriend or slaughtered deer. I will not be back. To Be Avoided: Sluggish Kitchen & Ridiculous, Maybe Even Scammy Pricing My wife and I recently visited Crew on a Saturday night for dinner. We heard nice things about this restaurant and while we have been living in the area for a bit, this was our first visit. Unfortunately, Crew did not live up to its reputation and honestly gave my wife and I more to talk about after, rather than a satisfying meal. First, the sluggish kitchen. I can't remember the last time I waited so long between appetizers and entrees at a restaurant. We were approaching forty-five minutes between courses. To add, everyone else around us was waiting and you could feel the frustration in the air. Poor one out for the group of elder friends out for someone's birthday sitting next to us. They had ordered before we even sat down and got their food minutes before us. Their wait easily exceeded an hour. The slow kitchen was only the first course of things that went astray. For our entrees we ordered the steak frites and filet mignon. Both of these entrees were marked as "market price." Not a problem. A nice night out. Some steaks were in order and with other entrees ranging between $23-28.00, how much could these cuts of beef be? The good news is that the steak frites rang in at a reasonable $35.00. The filet meanwhile, drum roll please... $60.00. I was shocked when I saw it on the bill. Now, I acknowledge 100% we ordered and should have asked, but I have to ask, what market are they buying this beef from? I am going to have to assume that the food buyer at Crew was swindled and bamboozled by whoever supplies them this beef. Just for reference, on the same night, the same size steak at Keene's in *Midtown Manhattan* was $51.00. Yes, that steak is ala-carte, but you would be better off without the included sides straight out of the 1990s culinary scene that Crew provided. So, in short, Crew did not live up to its reputation. As I dwell on this meal, maybe the long wait time and high filet price were supposed to go hand in hand? By giving us 45 minutes to wait, we had plenty of time to pick up a rag and clean some tables! We too could have been part of the CREW, and maybe then, had enough to offset the obscene and offensive price of that cut of beef. read more

The waitress was very attentive, kind and wanted to make sure everything was prefect. What makes this place work is the employees. Give CREW a try, I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it! We've had the same waitress (Adriana) on our last two visits and didn't think her awesome service could be topped. Happy to say, we were wrong. The food was pretty good. Great drink selection. Service was great. The only issue was the Angus steak on the menu indicted "mp", for market price. When we got the bill, it was $78. Nothing else on the menu was even close to that. It was ridiculous. I even asked the waitress if the charge was correct. This was NOT listed as organic nor grass fed. Nice little gem found amid multiple chain restaurants on Route 9. Nice bar atmosphere and had on sports which made it a quite lively crowd. I came here for dinner with friends and I was pleased. The server was a bit over attentive but it was insignificant since the food was absolutely amazing. I usually always order off of the specials menu but I decided to check out some regulars. I started with the salmon croquettes. Delicious. Perfectly fried, not fishy and the sauce was the perfect compliment. My main course was the lamb curry bowl. Phenomenal. I am very big fan of Indian food, so I was hesitant but this didn't disappoint. The ground lamb was delicious and the the curry sauce, amazing! I've been coming here for years when in town. Sadly I think Crew has gone down hill. I love the pasta with Bolognese but it repeatedly has water in the bottom of the dish...lots of water.... The pasta is not fresh and they don't cover it all so the edges are dry and mushy. Recently I had the blackened chicken sandwich which was very dry. Let's discuss the remodel.. Prior to redoing the restaurant it reminded me of a NYC pub which I loved. The hanging pendants were replaced with diner type fixtures which Continues with the wallpaper. My family and I stayed in Poughkeepsie for a few nights to visit one of the colleges in the area, and our dinner at Crew was definitely my favorite during our trip! Great food and drinks, and phenomenal service! We started with the Salmon Fritters and Spinach & Artichoke Dip. Both were very good. We all chose items from the preset menu for our entrees, however they also had a great selection of specials. We ordered the Grilled Organic Salmon, Filet Mignon, and Local Chicken Breast. I really can't rave enough about the entrees, all three were outstanding! I loved the pistachio crust on the salmon, and I plan on trying to recreate it at home until I can get back to Crew! The desserts were also amazing! We had the Limoncello Flute and a Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse, which was on special. We really enjoyed our experience at Crew and will be back the next time we're in Poughkeepsie! read more
