This small restaurant in Berkeley was definitely a hidden gem. The prices compared well to other similar restaurants in the Berkeley area, but their food does outshine many other Italian restaurants I've had in the area. The meatballs were a great appetizer to start and came with bread. All the entrees, particularly the Cameroni were very good. Their pasta tastes handmade and is cooked al dente. My favorite part of the meal was trying the Green Tea Panna Cotta, which I thought was a very unique thing to have on the menu. In addition, it also tasted great but I wish you could taste the green tea a little more. read more

I've had my eye on Creekwood for some time, so I was glad when my goddaughter's bday dinner landed us here on a weekday evening. Food, service and atmosphere were all great. It's not a big place- maybe 10-14 indoor tables (plus a few out front), but they easily fit our party of 10. It was beer and wine only- no cocktails/liquor. A few apps were ordered- shishito peppers were simple and delish, goat cheese plate was an interesting mix of flavors and super yummy, meatballs were good, mussels seemed to be fine but didn't bring about any comments as being remarkable. Entrees ordered were the burger (both guys felt guilty ordering a burger at an Italian restaurant but were happy they did), Gnocchi with creamy pesto (these were larger 2-bite gnocchi and chewy-delicious), crab ravioli (available in small and full-size and also yummy), Meatball calzone and Fettuccine were both good. The bill came and it was surprising that they didn't add gratuity for our large party. The amount shocked nonetheless. Everyone deserves to make a living, so I hope our servers, and staff are well taken care of! read more

Lovely food and service! I've been there twice and look forward to going again! Charming environment, great for a date.

This is only one of a handful of times that we've ever been led astray by great reviews. I recommend skipping this place as there are so many other great options. We won't be going back and we're honestly surprised by how amiss our experience was. The food taste was mediocre at best and the service seemed very disconnected. We felt as though the workers wanted to serve well, but they just weren't streamlined and everything felt discombobulated. In our opinion, they need better management and training. The chef was also a letdown as the food wasn't well balanced and only one dish was a hit at our table. The prices were astronomical for the experience we had. It felt like a chain restaurant experience at Michelin prices - it's like they want to be something they're not. This was not the experience we expected or paid for and the exceptional reviews honestly feel hard to explain. I am usually am lucky enough to find parking right up front when I dine at Creekwood. We made reservations for Saturday evening dinner via OpenTable - unfortunately, upon arriving learned that the reservation was for inside (I had requested outside in the reservation notes because there was no option or distinction I. The reservation itself - it turns out, if the option doesn't appear, that means there are no outside tables available). Fortunately, the staff were able to offer a table that would be free for an hour and 15 mins until the next reservation, we took that and later were kindly told we could stay longer due to a cancellation. The crispy Brussels sprouts were super tasty and perfectly crispy. This is the only way my sister likes them so she was very happy! The Roasted Beet salad was nice and refreshing on a warm evening. It was also quite tasty. The vinaigrette was not overwhelming, it was a great touch to bring out the beet and berry flavors. The basil pesto gnocchi was superb. Gnocchi is always a bit heavy but the portion size was great, my sister and I shared this so it was just right. The basil pesto was flavorful and the pine nuts were a perfect topping. The margharita pizza was great. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Crust wasn't burnt or undercooked, just right. Even the one slice I had leftover was yummy the next day! The almond cake was interesting and I absolutely loved the strong almond flavor. The texture was different than a normal white flour cake but I think this made it better. I didn't much care for the raspberry sauce on the plate. Overall great service. I especially appreciated that despite the reservation confusion, they helped make things work out for us. The service was fabulous. All were very attentive. My friend had the Mushroom Pappardelle. She found it to be quite good. I had the Cameroni. It was good. Not a large portion, but I surmise that if folks were having salads before it would be sufficient. The wines were swell. We then had the Tiramisu and Almond Cake. The Tiramisu was enormous and haft went home. The Almond Cake, while a lovely presentation was cold, as though it had been in the fridge or was thawed from being frozen. It dampened the taste for me. Overall a good experience. Parking was within a block. They close early. read more

Just enjoyed our first (but not last!) visit to Creekwood before a show at Berkeley Rep. The location is a bit unexpected but the ambiance and vibe is just perfect. We went on a Friday night and it was packed inside and out. The food was amazing and portions are huge! You can easily fill up on the small (not small) plates at the beginning of the menu. We tried the Brussels sprouts and the beet salad to start. Both were very tasty. We also had a pizza and the papardelle with mushrooms. The pizza was simple, crispy and perfectly charred. Went to Berkeley for a short concert trip for my daughter, I randomly picked this place because it is a dog friendly restaurant. We had a great meal with a decent Italian wine selection and an unforgettable great service from Paul, our waiter. He squared away all details that evening of what a perfect restaurant experience should have been. Shouted it out and kudos to him. The best item that I still miss until today from this restaurant was the carrot cake. Definitely you must try "dessert" and take home couple slices, otherwise you would regret. The carrot cake was unlike anywhere else. It was perfectly dense cake but was to perfection, not too sweet with creamy and velvety frosting. I had a tasty Lambrusco and Barolo for my drinks that night. Pappardelle pasta was excellent. Pizza was tasty. We had to sit outside because of our dog, however inside also has a great ambient. Our family had dinner on sunday night and were underwhelmed by the service. We were seated for over 15 minutes before our server came by. I asked if the fries that came w/my burger could be subbed for any kind of vegetable - when the food arrived no veg, just fries. The other server dropped off our food when it was ready - our waiter came by about 2/3 through the meal to see if we needed anything. Once we received our bill, he'd entered my glass of wine incorrectly resulting in a higher charge. It was an overall disappointing experience. read more

We have been driving by this place for years and finally decided to give it a try and it did not disappoint. Our server Paulo was amazing. He gave great recommendations and was quick to check on us after our food arrived. We had the Brussels sprouts, pork chop and a cameroni ragu. Everything was great. Paulo brought us out a Calabrian chili paste for the pasta and with a bit of additional salt the dish was an absolute home run. The Brussels were nice and crispy, but could have used a hit of lemon juice or something acidic (they were still good without). The pork chop was absolutely massive and the morel sauce that came with it was rich and decadent. For dessert we were feeling pretty full due to the generous portions of all of the dishes we had so we went for the blood orange sorbeto which was a perfect way to end the meal. We saw the carrot cake get delivered to the table next to us as we were wrapping up and knew immediately we have to come back to try it. We chatted with the owner Greg for awhile. He was extremely personable and gave us insights into all of the food. Apparently he also makes all of the desserts. If you're reading this do yourself a favor and give this place a try. My boyfriend and I came in for dinner during a busy rush. We were thinking about turning away to eat elsewhere, but the manager was very accommodating and sat us down at their high top area in less than 10 minutes. He ordered us our first round of drinks, as well as our appetizers while our server was greeting other tables. Because it was busy, we had to sit shoulder to shoulder alongside other people, but we aren't too picky about that. The ambiance is very intimate, perfect for date night, however it can be a little loud when busy due to larger parties. We were then greeted by our server who was the sweetest young lady ever (I didn't get her name) and she guided us through the menu and gave us her recommendations. We ended up ordering the margherita pizza and the prosciutto pizza.. shook. These pizzas were amazing. Thin crust, delicious sauce, fresh ingredients.. and not to mention their chocolate molten cake for dessert was the perfect end to our meal. We decided on Creekwood for a little fun date night after finding it on Yelp's Top 100 of 2021 & it's definitely worthy of that title. we shared 3 dishes & finished it all so you know it's good!! Food: We ordered Brussel sprouts to share & they were the best I've ever eaten. the bowl is also HUGE for the price. Perfect amount of saltiness from the seasoning & perfect amount of crunch. They were cooked just the right softness on the inside. MUST ORDER. then, we shared the pesto gnocchi & meatball calzone. gnocchi was amazing, fluffy and soft and chewy. the sauce coated the little pillows perfectly. heavy cheese though so if you're not into that, then don't order this LOL. meatball calzone was delicious as well and the meatballs were flavored perfectly and the pizza crust was crunchy but not hard. Overall, we both LOVED the sprouts & the gnocchi (would order again!) and enjoyed the calzone but probably will try something else next time we visit. The Moscow mule was also delicious! Service: Ben was the best server! He was always checking in to make sure we had all our dishes, cleared plates away, overall very attentive. There was also another lady filling our waters and she was the sweetest & gave us the best recommendations! The service here was great! The lighting & candle lit center pieces on each table really added to the ambience of this restaurant. It looked cozy. Outdoor seating & indoor seating is available but due to the size of the restaurant, I wouldn't suggest to bring large parties of more than 10 here. The host sat us, & offered us to taste beer, & wine prior to ordering. They took care of us, & the quality of the food was very good. I had the ribeye 16oz, & my goodness it was tender & flavorful. I had it done medium rare. I'm definitely returning. Oysters tasted fresh, the local halibut was good as well. I would definitely recommend this place if you're catching up with a friend or going on a date. Definitely a good spot to dine. One star off, only because I felt that parking can be difficult, & restaurant was small, & they only sell beer & wine, with a small selection of cocktails. The rack of lamb comes out tender, juicy, and covered in flavor. No, the lamb itself is not overwhelmed by the additives. The meat practically slides off the bones. Do not hesitate to grab one of the racks and do a cheers with your date, meaning tapping your respective rib bones together. It may not be classy but it is affirming. And then there is the mushroom pizza with the gluten-free crust. Sure, you may not be into mushrooms like me but the pizza is undeniably good. That thin crust with that real cheese---finger licking good. And yes, I brought my lactose-intolerance pills, so I came prepared to feast. Once again, this place is the real deal. I've had this restaurant bookmarked ever since I saw it listed in Yelp's Top 100 restaurants. I'm so glad I came and tried it last night. I came on a Wednesday night and there were plenty of tables. I could see it getting very busy on the weekends. My friend and I shared the crispy brussel sprouts, gnocchi, and Margherita pizza. Everything was delicious!! I love how the brussel sprouts were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and was the perfect balance between sweet and salty. The Margherita pizza was also good and loved the fresh basil on top. It got cold very fast so I would've finished this faster. My favorite of the night was the gnocchi. The texture was like soft clouds and the sauce that accompanied it was even better. We ended up using the crust from the pizza to eat the leftover sauce on our plates. The food is amazing and is pretty affordable for a nice restaurant setting. So I could have sworn I reviewed before our take out experience which was awesome. We loved the food. This time we went and had our meal at Creekwood for Father's Day. The food was mostly good. We had a lot of things: Little gems salad: too much dressing but good Asparagus pizza: awesome Sausage pizza: awesome Pasta: awesome brussel sprouts with sugar topping?! It was weird but still ok. I would have preferred it without the sugar topping and it should have an aioli to dip the sprouts in. The service was snarky. The waiter seemed like he had an attitude the entire time and I have no idea why. I had read yelp reviews prior and it said that you could bring your dog and how nice they were about bringing water out. We'll, they never brought water out for my dog and when I asked, the water had hairs or fibers in it. So weird. Maybe the owner came at the end of the meal to check on things. He didn't say his name but we didn't mention anything because, why? The experience was over. Overall, I would say it was a good experience. The food is great but in the future, we will stick with take-out which we love. read more

I come for visit to take her out for her birthday and asked her to choose any place she want to eat! She never been here either ! We come here for Sunday brunch, we arrived a little closer to the closing time so we didn't have any wait at all and the order come really quickly. On Sunday they have a special menu for the Sunday brunch, it's a very small menu and easy to make a choice. We both decided on the Salmon Benedict! I hesitated to make that choice since from my passed experiences I always found that Salmon Benedict is always over salty! This time that was not the case, it was just perfect for me ! It's a must visit place for your special occasion. The service was very quick due to the closing time however we didn't feel rushed , we managed to finished our bottle of Champagne and mimosa! The meatballs were solid, the bread with the meatballs was solid, the potato panchetta pizza was one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. Someday soon hopefully. It was the high quality of what Jamie W. and I ordered that evoked that memory of what now seems like an eternity to a foodie like me. I discovered that co-owners Greg Poulios and Mark Louie worked together at Zuppa in the city (which closed about three years ago) and that executive chef Liam Bonner ran the menu there as well as a long-ago favorite of mine, Globe. I remember the roast chicken and Margherita pizza at Zuppa, so it made sense that the Cali-Italianate menu was so appealing to us. We started with the $13 Little Gems Salad, which combined little gem lettuce with banana fingerling potatoes, red onion, crispy pancetta, and a six-minute egg halved, all of it sprinkled with pecorino and accompanied by a creme fraiche vinaigrette (photo: https://bit.ly/2RFSyi0). Came during a chilly Friday night. We were quickly welcomed and sat to our table. I highly recommend making a reservation because even the bar filled up quickly. We had Brussels sprouts, margherita pizza, and the fettuccine. Also some wine, Barbera. For dessert and affogato and flourless chocolate cake. We dined in once and I ordered takeout once and I have to say that I enjoyed my dine in experience more! For takeout, I ordered the pork loin ($35) and it was a bit disappointing. Reviews for the pork chops were promising but my dish was a bit dry and tough - not the juiciness the other reviews promised. It was a short walk back home so it's not like it was sitting in the box for too long. When we dined in, we got a pizza and a pasta. I've eaten at Creekwood twice - once for brunch and once for a birthday dinner. Brunch was tasty. Dinner was exceptionally good. Between the six of us, we ordered quite a bit of the menu. Each dish was prepared so thoughtfully and deliciously. As an added bonus, the service rivaled the food.
