Credence is the newest upscale restaurant on the (Memorial City) block. It's next to Hotel ZaZa and Ciro's Italian restaurant. It's spearheaded by James Beard Award nominee, Levi Goode of Goode Co. It was a rainy evening upon arrival for dinner on a Saturday evening. There's valet and a parking garage nearby. Someone will walk you to the door with an umbrella and/or open the door for you at the entrance. The lovely ladies at the reception area guide you to your table after checking in. I recommend reservations. I love the art deco-like ambiance/style throughout the restaurant and color palette of green, cream, tarazzo and gold. The kitchen is open concept to watch where the magic happens. Tables range from an intimate table for two, round tables and larger areas mixed with rectangular tables and velvet booth seating. It's swanky and classy. Absolutely love it. Even the backsplash tiles of the pillars are a beautiful iridescent cream color. The service was wonderful. We had 2-3 servers helping us at any given time. Anabella was our main server who took great care of us. Water was topped off and refilled. Steak knife was delivered. She answered any questions we had about the cocktails and zero proof drinks. I wanted the Little Sunday, but they ran out of the zero proof tequila on a Saturday evening. Look at fancy mocktails making an appearance! Since they were out, I went with Exit Plan, which has grapefruit and was similar to an aperol spritz. Delicious, slightly bitter from the grapefruit. We started with the monkey bread because we were starving but still wanted something more than just a main entree. That smoked tallow brioche topped with flaky salt and garlic herb butter was everything! The bread was pillowy soft and could be divided in rolls. They didn't skimp on the butter either. It was the perfect whipped texture and had a great balance of garlic and herbs. I had the pork rib chop schnitzel. Think of a bone in, breaded pork chop. It was topped with capers. The cut was thin, but the portion literally took up the whole plate. The breading was so flavorful. If you're not into breading, you may not like it cause it's a little more heavily breaded. That was my favorite, though, and the accompaniment of the deviled gribiche sauce. Think of a deviled egg, mustard and creamy sauce with pickled relish and parsley or something. Perfectly paired with the pork chop. The little green salad was fresh with a lightly tossed vinaigrette dressing. I also ordered the butter-whipped potatoes to complete the meal. The pork chop schnitzel was so huge that I literally ate only 1/3 and took the rest home. The barbecue gulf shrimp is an interesting play on shrimp and grits. The aged cheddar grits were in the form of pasta and Nola-style bbq sauce. My friend enjoyed that and the zero free Dead Flowers mocktail. We were full, but I ordered hot black tea and was happy with the Assam black tea, half n half, and the turbinado sugar option. Wasn't charged for the hot tea, so thank you. Takeout is packed for you in the kitchen, and you're given a number keychain like Le Jardinier and pick up at the reception area where you check in. This was the perfect place to kickstart my November birthday month. Big milestone, so you gotta go big! I'm definitely coming back here to try the steak and duck, fry service, and check out their speakeasy called Side Bar. read more

Credence made a great first impression with its swanky, stylish ambiance and top-tier service. The staff was attentive, warm, and professional throughout the night. Cocktails were flowing--we ordered more than we could count--and each one was well-crafted and enjoyable. Appetizers were the highlight. The deviled crabs were flavorful and memorable, and the monkey bread was rich, warm, and absolutely addicting. The black truffle linguine was creamy and satisfying. The cowboy cut wagyu ribeye looked great but had an overpowering flavor we just couldn't quite place--not bad, but not something we'd come back for. Sides were all well-executed: creamy mashed potatoes, flavorful blue crab rice, and the French fry service brought out hot, crispy fries with style. It was a good one-time experience--elevated, polished, and enjoyable. But for the price and the overall impression, it wasn't quite memorable enough to bring us back. read more

We had an amazing dinner at Credence. But Adam the bartender is what made the experience. Every recommendation he had was amazing. He did not miss. He even came over to our table and checked in on us. read more

A beautiful restaurant, but we went for lunch on the first day they started doing takeout orders. We waited one hour for our food, and had to watch as orders were being packed, which took away from the calm atmosphere. I would recommend they put a partial wall up in order block distractive packing of lunches. We were sitting in a corner right near where they were packing the meals. It made us anxious. Three of us ordered fish sandwiches because we heard they were really good, but honestly three fish sandwiches for almost $100 is not a good value and wasn't anything memorable. I felt like they could've done something to offset the long wait. The waitress was very sweet but I felt like the manager could've come over and offered a free dessert or something. read more

My husband and I went to credence for date night dinner and it was amazing. I love the decorations and ambiance. The food was delicious. The monkey bread was so good as our appetizer. For entrees, we both got the wild gulf snapper and it was a show stopper for sure. I wanted to eat my whole entree but couldn't because I was full. It's very filling and a nice portion. The service was good as well. Our reservation was for 9 pm but we came early around 8pm and asked if we could sit earlier than 9 if possible. They had a nice lounge area where you can sit and order drinks and food. By the time, our appetizer came, our table was ready so we waited maybe 15-20 min. Overall, great dinner and will be coming back. read more

Credence is worth your time to visit. The overall experience was fantastic. Great food, service and atmosphere.

Armando was our waiter and his recommendations were off the charts. Christina came by to check up on us and that was the icing on the cake. Great steaks, great sides, the the best ambiance. This is the spot to relax and have a great meal. Compliments to the chef. Cheers. read more

My wife and I visited Credence yesterday evening for an early dinner. Credence is a live fire restaurant created by the head of the Goode Company restaurant group - Levi Goode. Mr. Goode went all out with Credence. The space is beautiful, and very large. And it was bustling at 5:45 on a Saturday evening, both inside and out on the patio. Most tables have a good view of the open kitchen. Our two top's view of the kitchen was obstructed by a huge pillar between our table and the kitchen. Pro tip - If we return, we will book a couple of seats at the Raw Bar where we could be entertained by a full view of what's going on in the kitchen. Our server Max was very attentive, but there were times because of how busy the restaurant was that he was less available than perhaps we would have wanted. We don't mind pouring our own wine, but I don't think that's the vibe that Credence is after. Bottom line the service was very friendly and knowledgeable. On to the food and drinks. I would say the meal was a mix of home runs, singles up the middle, and pop ups to the infield. Kind of a mixed bag - We started with their version of a Negroni and "The Perfect Manhattan" We sort of prefer classic cocktails, and these were both excellent versions. For starters we went with the roasted oysters and the Deviled Crabs. The Deviled Crab dish was one of the home runs, and far exceeded our expectations. Think of a lightly mixed crab cake mixture heavy on the crab stuffed back in the shell and accompanied by an other worldly cajuny cream sauce. Just a great appetizer. We were really looking forward to the roasted oysters, but this dish fell really flat. Good flavors, but they must have been sitting in the kitchen for a while and they came to the table at luke warm at best, but more like room temperature. Oysters are good raw and chilled, or cooked and warm. Nothing appealing to me about a room temperature oyster. We skipped the signature Pan De Campo as we were worried about getting too filled up and went straight to the main courses. I ordered the BBQ Gulf Shrimp and my wife had the Wild Gulf Snapper. For sides we chose the Blue Crab Rice and wanted the cabbage dish, but for some reason, they were out of cabbage early on a Saturday evening. We substituted broccolini for the cabbage. The BBQ Shrimp were the second home run of the evening - again exceeding expectations - plump shrimp, another awesome Louisiana style sauce, and these agnolotti pastas that mimicked grits in a wonderful way both taste and texturally. It would be difficult for me to not order this dish on a return visit. We ordered the Snapper because of pictures we saw on yelp. This dish didn't deliver. The sauce was bland compared to the sauce on the deviled crab and shrimp dishes and the fish had a wierd, non flaky texture. The Blue Crab Rice was another star dish. Could eat a bucket of that, and the broccolini was fine - it advertised a Alabama White BBQ sauce that we couldn't find. We wished the cabbage was available. Had the Caramel Soft Serve and Bundt cake for dessert. They really complemented each other and melded into one dish. We are glad for our visit to Credence. We drive into town once a week from Montgomery to explore the Houston dining scene. Not sure our experience at Credence will generate a return visit, but if we lived in the Memorial area, we would definitely be back to try some other menu items including their steaks. read more

Beautiful establishment!! The vibes are immaculate. I decided to host a celebration at Credence and it was a great decision! Our waitresses were sensational. They were attentive and helpful with our dinner selections. I highly recommend the monkey bread and the snapper. The portion sizes were fitting for one hungry person. As for sides, the crab fried rice (with the yum yum sauce) and the French fry service (served with 4 different sauces) are highly recommended. There's garage and valet for parking options. We had a great experience and I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion!! I will be back. read more

We had a lovely experience here for my mom's birthday! We had great service, delicious food and wine! The snapper was fantasticccc I would get that every time. Also the black truffle pasta was amazing. It wasn't too loud in there, it is a big restaurant, but still felt romantic and lovely. We went to the SideBar after and had the best time. Music was great and had so much fun dancing! Great drinks and had dessert in there too. read more

After reading the About page to find out more of the inspiration behind Levi Goode's first independent restaurant, I'd say the concept is a success. Blending ruggedness with refinement here in Memorial area of Houston certainly plays to the sensibilities of the clientele near by and draws in anyone familiar with his Goode Co. brand. The space is decorated in the current style of art deco that has plenty of verdant greens, textured surfaces and wood accents. The Smokey aromas of Post Oak wood grill permeate the entire dining room and entrance, to set the stage upon arrival. For sure an elevated and sophisticated atmosphere is curated here by design, and it does that without being too stuffy. Big windows help let natural light pour in and make the space a bit more airy. Mostly a valet parking service with a nearby garage, and likely will need a reservation here in the early days after open. Service was touchy in my opinion. Waiters and mangers were plenty, but a meal for 5 on a weekday lunch ended up taking north of 1hr 45mins, when it could've easily been 30mins shorter and just as enjoyable and well paced. We had multiple instances where I couldn't help but wonder where our server was for multiple minutes at a time. I'll chalk it up to ironing out some post launch kinks. I mention the live fire grill and it really is the star of the open kitchen and menu. Lots of sandwich and grilled options, as well as sides incorporated flame grilled techniques or smoky touches to the flavor. The high concept through line does permeate its way through the size of dishes, it encourages ordering of multiple apps, sides, or seafood from the raw bar section if you come hungry. Pan de Campo with fennel sausage was a standout app, basically like a Texas Pizza. The Parisa is a nice beef carpaccio twist served with waffle fries. Many of us got the filet that came out cooked to order, and even had a slight lunch discount compared to the menu price. For dessert I don't think many of us cared for the chocolate cake, it just wasn't as moist as I would've liked, but the rest are excellent. The coconut cream pie blew me away, I'm not a big pie guy to begin with. Some unbalanced dishes like an overly salted Blue Crab Rice or the broccolini that was overpowered by smoke flavor. As well as some things that just didn't really register as exciting like the deviled eggs, whipped potatoes, and French fries. I like to think the good outweighs the missteps here, and believe Credence is a welcome addition of concept to what's available on the westside and I imagine will continue to have many busy days ahead. Swing by and experience it for yourself. read more

I wanted to fall in love. The entrance and bar area are both stunning. The service was also lovely. Our party of four enjoyed drinks which were well crafted and our appetizers but, our entries fell flat. The filet was under seasoned and not as tender as expected. My husband and I tried Credence for brunch yesterday and it was a good experience. We were able to use valet parking to park our car but free parking is also available. They have indoor and outdoor parking, which we chose to sit outdoors, which was nice. We went inside to check in, which is probably the only subpar thing about our experience. The hostess wasn't very welcoming and seemed like she didn't want to be there. However, everyone else was courteous, professional, and friendly. We started out with the Deviled Crabs and they were delicious! I was a little on the fence about the smoky tomato butter topping but it was delicious and paired well with the monkey bread. We then ordered the Wild Gulf Snapper, Heirloom Blue Crab Rice, and Smoked Cabbage. The snapper was delicious and the blue crab rice had a delicious sauce and they didn't skimp on the crab meat which was a bonus. Most restaurants don't serve cabbage so it was a refreshing choice and it was nicely smoked and delicious. We washed everything down with a Guava Mimosa and Carajillo, which were great. Overall, I definitely recommend this restaurant. I look forward to checking it out for dinner. read more

I came out of there with an overstuffed belly and a very happy heart. First off, everyone who served us tonight was lovely. We ended up sitting at the bar area that bordered the kitchen, kind of like their "chef's table". I highly recommend that experience. Not only do you get a show, but it comes with a complimentary glass of bubbly. We all ordered fantastic. The Deviled Crabs appetizer was AMAZING. For our entrees, me and my mom ended up going halfsies on the Snapper and the Tuna and both were phenomenal (I think I liked the snapper a little more, but if you're a poké fan I'd recommend the tuna bc it was cooked rare to perfect and apparently was fresh from Hawaii). My dad got the pork rib chop schnitzel and I had a taste of that too and it was fantastic. Apparently the schnitzel is an old family recipe from Germany from the 1800s or something so it's a signature of theirs. I was especially proud of our dessert order. Between the 3 of us, we shared the buttermilk soft serve and the chocolate peanut butter tart and they were DELICIOUS, and a wonderful pairing if I do say so myself. Their cocktails were also lovely. My mom got the Voladora and I got the High Tail and they were both really good. Overall, an exceptional dining experience!! read more

We had a great brunch at Credence! The restaurant is beautiful; the service is very welcoming and gracious; and the food was delicious. Here's what we tried: -Cinnamon rolls with pecans: SO good! A great combination of the sweet icing with the savory pecans, great way to start off sharing one (or two!) for the table. -Eggs benedict: Very good take on the classic dish. And I even particularly liked the green salad that came with it. -French toast: I took a bite of my friend's french toast and thought it was delicious. If I had to pick between the cinnamon rolls and french toast for sweet options, I'd probably still pick the cinnamon rolls, but the french toast was still fantastic too. -French fry service: Calling it "service" may be a bit of an oversell (I guess because it comes with a few sauces?), but the fries themselves were great. read more

The space is super pretty--lots of warm wood and leather, very Texas-chic. Our server was genuinely nice and tried hard to make the night special. But for the price, I left kind of underwhelmed. The deviled crab appetizer was interesting, but small. My steak was good (well-cooked and flavorful), but it was $60 and came with literally nothing else on the plate. You end up nickel-and-diming your way to a full meal. My friend got the truffle linguine, and while it was creamy, it didn't taste all that truffley. Gulf snapper was solid, but again, portions felt more tasting-menu than dinner. I think this would be a great spot if someone else is paying, or if you're celebrating something. But if you're just going out for a nice dinner, there are better spots in town where you'll leave full and spend less. read more

Absolutely beautiful restaurant with impeccable service, but the food fell flat for me. I went on a solo lunch date and sat at the bar. The bartender Dylan promptly attended to me and I quickly ordered. Drinks: I had one of their seasonal offerings, The Voladora, which was delicious. App: I ordered the oysters as an appetizer. They were maybe an 8/10. They had a different flavoring than I typically see on grilled oysters, with the inclusion of their salsa macha butter, but it was pleasant. I didn't care for the peanut gratin at all. It didn't seem to add or take away anything in my opinion and as a person who gets finicky about stark texture differences in food, I would up just scraping them off after about the second one. Main Entree: Gulf Shrimp Roll | 5/10 | I took two bites of this and was not impressed. I think I would've liked it better if it had been made in "dry" lobster roll fashion, as in, cooked in drawn butter to fill a toasted bun. It came prepared with their comeback sauce instead of the ravigote sauce listed on the menu, which I was disappointed in, because I think a dijon based dressing would have made for better flavoring. The sandwich was really dull for me and just not enjoyable. Dylan could see my disappointment in it and promptly took it off the bill. It came with fries which looked to be fresh cut, but absolutely did not taste that way. Bummer. Side: Heirloom Crab Rice | 7/10| This was pretty good, just a tad salty. I wound up taking the leftovers home! Just to note, I saw a lot of other reviews calling it "fried" rice. It is not, from what I could tell from tasting it. It's just crab rice. While the restaurants is wonderfully decorated, with great servers and a glorious ambiance, the food just did not do it for me. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but all in all, I'd be willing to try it again. read more

Came here for dinner with another couple and we all loved it! Really like the ambiance, it was nice/trendy, not too loud, and I'd love to sit on their spacious patio when it's nice outside. Service was excellent. We'll definitely be back to try more on the menu! Starters - We tried the monkey bread (garlic herb butter was the highlight), parisa, and deviled crabs. Deviled crabs were the table favorite. I unfortunately couldn't try the parisa (raw) but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Entrees - I had the Wild Gulf Snapper (fresh and simply cooked), Barbecue Gulf Shrimp (looked very good, not a drop left on the plate), and the two guys shared the Whole Duck - which was definitely the star! All of the garnishments/accoutrements made it even better. There was leftover duck and sides - could probably serve 4. For sides, only added on broccolini which we really didn't end up needing. But it was tasty - had some smokiness to it. Desserts left something to be desired unfortunately. We tried the blueberry soft serve and brown butter Bundt cake. The blueberry galette was just okay and Bundt cake was pretty dry. Mocktail - I tried the Little Sunday at the waiters recommendation and it basically tasted like lime juice. Too tart for me. read more

The reason I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is because the service was exceptional. Our server's name was Dequan and he was excellent. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the food. This was my first experience with Credence and the atmosphere was new, modern and a little noisy. The lunch gnocchi was my first experience with gnocchi (in particular cornmeal gnocchi) so I have nothing with which to compare; I would probably not have it again but it wasn't bad. I have had plenty of beet salads and this didn't make the top ten. The grilled tuna salad my husband ordered rated a 0 on a scale of 1-5. The tuna may have been grilled as advertised, but there was no evidence of it, and there was absolutely no taste to it. I would have expected there to be some seasoning, but again, no evidence. The green beans were so crunchy they might as well have been fresh-picked and the sauce over the snow peas was so tasteless, Ranch dressing would have been a huge improvement. I could only eat one, and I really like snow peas. Until they get a better chef, I will not be returning. read more

This restaurant has been open for about 3 weeks. With some new establishments you can expect a few hiccups here and there as it adjusts. But not at Credence! Everything was top notch. The ambiance is light, bright, and appealing. The restaurant is sparkling clean, including the Powder Room! Every staff member we encountered were kind. Now on to the good stuff, things that can make your visit a hit or a miss; service and food. Our waiter, Jayla, was absolutely amazing. She was super kind, personable, and attentive. She offered great recommendations, all of which were definitely worth a second round. The food was great; tasty and flavorful- no need to ask for salt & pepper to spruce it up. Usually, I eat with my eyes;if it looks good it should taste good and that's exactly what I received. Food favorites: the Deviled Crabs (I have never seen this on any other menu- the stuffing is on a half-shell), I could have made it an entree paired with a nice bed of greens. The Crab Fried Rice is a fav amongst staff and I can see why. Rice is crisp tossed in a creamy delicious sauce. The Snapper, Truffle Linguine, and the Cinnamon roll certainly hit the mark! Overall, this first experience exceeded my expectations. Jayla also let us know that there's a Speakeasy adjoined, called the Sidebar with live music Thursdays-Saturdays with a $25 cover per person, reservations only. We went during brunch hours and Sidebar was booked for the night but we have secured a reservation for this following Saturday evening and I cannot wait for another round at this establishment. They have valet parking and there's a parking garage. It's across from Hotel ZaZa so there shouldn't be any issues with parking. This place is a must try, I highly doubt you'd be disappointed. read more

We came here for an early Mother's Day dinner and were really impressed by the ambience, decor, and service. The space is beautiful, and every staff member we encountered--especially our waiter--was incredibly warm and attentive. They were especially accommodating with our 3-year-old, even preparing chicken nuggets and fries off-menu, which, surprisingly, turned out to be the best dish of the night! We started with the monkey bread and crab cakes. Both were decent, but nothing to write home about. For entrées, I ordered the snapper and my husband had the branzino. While both were cooked well (nicely flaky), the flavor profiles were extremely underwhelming. It honestly felt like we were eating at a restaurant in Florida aimed at retirees--safe, bland, and lacking any bold seasoning or creativity. With a few drinks, one dessert, and no appetizers that really wowed us, the bill came to around $300. Ultimately, while the service and setting were top-notch, the food didn't live up to the price tag, which is why we landed at a 3-star rating. read more
