I stopped in after a long day looking for a place to unwind, and from the moment I walked in, Christi made me feel genuinely welcome. She was warm, attentive, and took great care of me throughout the evening. I ordered "That Cucumber Drink," and it was absolutely delicious--fresh, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice from the Tajín rim. I also had the Texican Rolls, and they were outstanding. What I appreciated most was the atmosphere. The crowd was a great mix of people--some dressed casually, others coming from work in suits, and a few dressed up for a night out. Everyone seemed comfortable, and the vibe was relaxed, friendly, and inviting. It felt like the kind of neighborhood place where regulars know each other, but newcomers are welcomed too. read more

I am disappointed by their service to their Hispanic patrons as there is none. As you can see their staff is minority they have a black bartender and a Hispanic waitress. As soon as we arrived, we had stares from their white patrons as that's all they had in there. It was my son, his girlfriend, and myself and of course you can tell we aren't white. We first sat inside and then decided to sit outside because the weather was fairly nice. However, when we thought we were going to be served mind you they sent the nicest lady and she told us that for us to be there she needed to see our ID. She didn't want our ID for drinks, but she wanted to see our ID in order for us to stay at their establishment. I'm guessing they wanted to see if we had a star on our drivers license or if we had an ID in general. We felt racially profiled as again their entire patrons were white, even in their video their patrons are only white. There was no other color in there. We just wanted to have a good time, grab some drinks and food. I wonder if that's how they treat their Caucasian customers as well but I highly doubt they do. read more

After dinner in the area, I stopped by By Popular Demand for drinks on a Tuesday evening with two friends. First off, great name for a bar. Second, I discovered that they're owned by the same people behind Masraff's. That's a good start. They're located in a shopping center with several other businesses, including a cat vet right next door. While it was busy, I didn't have trouble finding a parking spot. Ambiance (4/5): This is part of where By Popular Demand (BPD) shines. The interior is trendy, with both tabletop seating and more comfortable chairs and sofas. There's a small patio in the front and a larger one on the side. There aren't a ton of seats inside, so think of it as a smaller, more intimate bar. Service (3.5/5): A little slow to start out with as it took our waitress a good while to come and take our order (we were sitting on the front patio). She did apologize for the delay, and she was friendly from there on out, so things improved throughout our evening there. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so I was on a liquid diet. I have heard they have a pretty awesome steak night on Mondays though. Next time around! Drinks (3.5/5): While they have a full bar, BPD is a cocktail bar. They have 10-12 craft cocktails, plus everything else you would expect at a bar. I went with That Cucumber Drink. I'm always a fan of any cocktail that incorporates cucumber. It was one of the few items on the menu that stood out to me. A decent number of of the offerings are more of your standard cocktails (margaritas, ranch waters, etc.) and a good number have brown liquor (while I prefer clear liquor). Not the best menu for my taste, but that's not to say it's not a solid menu. Next time around, I'll have to stop by for steak night or to try out their food menu. read more

Chrissy and James bring such warmth and joy to the evening that it truly feels like you're among friends. Chrissy was our ambassador for the meal and she's down to earth. Glass of water was set of down within minutes of sitting down. Start with the tuna bites appetizer -- a perfect lead-in to the main event. The E.H. Taylor Small Batch pairs beautifully with the steaks and rounds out the experience. This is a Mazraff's restaurant, but with a very different vibe. Instead of a formal dining room, the space feels casual and relaxed -- more like a bar or even a cozy living room. I somehow missed the memo about BPD. My friend and I were looking for a place for HH and came across BPD on Yelp. It was a Monday night which meant we had the option to do their steak night. It was busy, but we were able to get a table without any difficulty. BPD has a nice lounge feel with large comfy couches and chairs. There's also a fireplace which gives it a homey feel. The clientele was actually a bit older which was fine with me. Our server Dennis was holding down the entire room. He was running around like crazy, but he was keeping up with the orders all evening. He even addressed me and my friend by name the entire night. Great memory and great service! It's the little things that go a long way. My friend had a margarita while I did That Cucumber Drink. It was so good and refreshing and I loved the tajin! I normally don't put much regard into a bar steak night, but once I read that BPD is in the same group as Masraff's, I knew the steak would be good. For $20, you get a choice of a 6 oz. filet, or 12 oz. NY strip. We had the option to get salad and creamed corn. The sides were buffet style so we were able to serve as little or as much as we wanted on our plates. I ordered the filet medium and it was so good! It was tender, juicy, and flavorful! The salad was good and I really enjoyed the creamed corn. I was expecting some sort of potatoes for the side dish so the corn was a pleasant surprise. We also did an order of the spinach dip and it was very tasty! It comes with sour cream and salsa on the side which we found to be strange, but it is served with tortilla chips. Super cute, quaint, inviting spot for more intimate conversations. There is a limited food menu, as there is a bigger menu for spirits. The food, although limited, was delicious. My partner and I tried the Tuna Tartare Tacos & Texican Roll, which also came out super fast. I appreciated the wide variety of whiskey offerings. As for the service... it was impeccable. Servers/bartender were friendly and personable. Everything was also brought to us promptly. It was truly a pleasure. Overall, this place is an intimate, cozy lounge designed for small groups or dates. With great drinks, great food, and even better service, you can't wrong. read more

Perfect for a date, nightcap, bite to eat, ladies night, etc etc. The menu is small but the items are made fresh to order so be prepared for a delicious meal whatever you choose! This place has a nice ambiance, decent drink selection, and tasty bar food menu. I came here at 5:30 on a Friday and place was slammed, but service was still keeping up with our group. It cleared out after a couple hours but got busier as it got later in the night. For food, I tried their guac, quesadilla, pizza, and Texican rolls. All of it was pretty good but I'd say the pizza was more of a flatbread and not my favorite by far. My friends said their chicken sandwich was good, and it did look pretty legit. I only had topo Chico to drink for the evening, so my tab was not too bad, but my friend had the cucumber drink and it looked very refreshing. Love the remodel! It's been years ago, but I first visited this place when it was The Vine Room (or something similar in name to that). The atmosphere was quiet and cozy, but the decor was like an old lady's living room from the 50's. This "new" revamp is nice! It's still cozy, but now with a country club tennis room/library/tobacco lounge feel. It's hard to describe because it can fit lots of different types of people and preferences. From the separate seating areas to the open spaces, and the variety of seating options, this place is going to become a fast favorite of mine. Since we are having an unusually warm January, we sat outside on the covered patio. They have music on low so you can still have a good conversation without shouting. Not sure what days, but I was told they fire up the pit and serve some pretty good BBQ for dine in or take out. I will return to try the BBQ or at least some of their menu food. The service was good. We were greeted and served immediately. The bartender even brought our next round out to us on the patio. My martinis were $12.00 each, so the prices are slightly higher than other establishments, but the atmosphere and service is what you are truly paying for in this case. It's extremely convenient to my office and home, so that's another plus. The parking is a little tight depending on the time of day you arrive. It is located right next door to a 5-star cat hospital, so many people in the parking spots are in and out quickly. You won't wait long for a spot and you might even be fortunate enough to get one of the spots that's literally less than 10 steps from the entrance. I am a fan of easy parking! All in all, I am very pleased with my revisit to this revamp. Recommend and will return! read more

It is definitely a hidden gem in a wonderful neighborhood bar. I arrived on a Monday to try their Steak Night. They offer a filet mignon or a ribeye with two sides (risotto with mushroom and veggies) for $20. Though delicious, it was on the saltier side for me. I also ordered their burger and it was 3.5/5 and I would order again, but would ask to reduce the salt. The music selection as well as volume that night was perfect as our group was able to converse with each other. Pretty chill and cozy place, it has couches to sit in and the drinks are well done the food was delicious I got the Orange Chicken and it came with some crispy fries. We decided to try this place since it's affiliated with Masraff's. I'm sorry to say that we were very disappointed! To start, their wine list is very limited. My husband and I each ordered a red wine, which were both warm. Red wine should be chilled a bit. We ordered 2 dishes- the tuna tacos and the Texas Rolls. Amazingly, our food was ready in less than 10 minutes! Obviously, these are not made to order! The taste of these 2 dishes was no comparison to what you can get at Masraff's. The place is very nice with lots of seating options and the wait staff is friendly and quick. Unfortunately, we won't be back here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you want a great wine list and happy hour, go to Masraff's or another place. We really like the happy hour and Masraff's and that's where we'll go next time! read more

Dim and darkly lit, this smaller bar is just that, not really a place to go for food. We had 4 different food items and all were marginal at best. Beer was nice, wine too. We are in our 60s and fit right in with this 60-70 y.o. crowd. Servers don't get nicer even after the 2nd drink. read more

Love This Local Gem! We've lived in the Spring Branch/Memorial area for going on six years and I hate that we're just now finding this place. The atmosphere is amazing, super chill, and a pretty calm crowd. We went on a Friday night and they were almost full, but never did I feel like it was super loud. My hubby and I were able to carry on a conversation without yelling. Tracey (our server) was AMAZING! She gave us some great recommendations and even got my husband, the super scotch lover, hooked on a bourbon! The food was also AWESOME! The queso was perfect and the homemade chips were perfectly cooked. The southwest egg rolls were the FIRST ones I've ever liked - a good balance of meat, corn and beans. This portion of Memorial has always been light on bars that catered well to the neighborhood. There were always options way down on Westheimer/Richmond, or fight parking at citycentre, but anything simple, close, and comfortable was few and far between. When I heard the group behind Masraff's were opening a bar in the neighborhood, I knew that was going to be a winner. The interior is upscale but comfortable. Much of the seating is intimate, like meeting friends in a living room for a cocktail visit. Outdoor seating is also available, though tight. They have a wide range of whiskeys and other spirits behind the bar and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for when it comes to drinks. There's even Pappy Van Winkle for those looking to burn serious money in a glass. The menu is refined bar food. There's house made chicharones, queso, flatbreads, quesadillas, etc. It's not a full kitchen, grab all kinds of meals, but if you're hungry there's plenty to cover a craving. My first time there was with a large group that had reserved a couple couches for a birthday party. The only knock on the experience and what's keeping me from 5 stars was the service. We repeatedly had to wave, crane our necks, or just plain head up to the bar to get service. My following visits were all at the bartop so can't say it's a consistent issue though. If you're living in the Memorial area, this is already your spot when looking for a quiet drink with friends.
