Hidden in a wall kinda restaurant - in Newbury. The service is faster and the food tastes good. Quick grab and go kind place if you are in Newbury and wanna have something quick.
We stopped here on a Thursday afternoon. It was not very busy so we were seated right away. I ordered the bbq ranch chicken fries and my boyfriend ordered the double trouble burger and bacon cheese fries. Everything was very good. The fries had lots of sauce and toppings which I love. It was definitely a lot of food and I ended up taking a bunch home. This place is great when you're looking for something simple and filling.
A hefty burger for a pretty outrageous price. I got the Double Trouble (+ a second patty, $5 more) and a side of fries. The burger was definitely sizable, packed with beef, and had a great meat flavor overall (especially the charred bits near the edges). The burger came as-shown with no vegetables. You can request for lettuce on the side. For a price of $35, it was truly Newbury St prices...there are better options for sure
Food was on point, tasted very good. No complaints in that area what so ever. The wings I got, some were extremely small, felt like a rip off. The buffalo fries tasted good with the sauce but without the sauce the chicken was a bit unseasoned. Overall, good service and will return.
One of the most outstanding burgers I've had in a longgg time! This underground spot on Newbury serves up elevated diner food bringing both a sense of comfort and delight when enjoying their crazy good, unique creations! I tried the spicy chicken sandwich, loaded buffalo fries, cookie monster shake, and their cheeseburger, the last of which definitely stole the show! The burger patty was juicy and tender with a delicious salty flavor that melded together perfectly with the creamy cheese. All the toppings were tasty and harmonious while not overpowering the patty itself and the bun was like biting into a cloud, fluffy and supportive of the overall bite. I will admit, after being so impressed with their burger (which to be fair is their specialty), I wasn't the biggest fan of the fries which were tasty on their own but a little too rich with all the toppings, and the chicken sandwich was honestly dry and I wish it had more flavor. Additionally, their shake, while definitely tasty, didn't blow me away. So, generally, I'd say if you're going here for a burger, it's definitely worth the trip!! The portion sizes are generous even despite the pricier menu (and for Boston on Newbury St, it's very good!). Also, the cozy yet vibrant vibes add a nice touch of joy and a feeling casual celebration to the table. The service matches this energy with their kind and friendly yet efficient and professional demeanor. Overall the experience dining here is one to remember for both the tasty comfort food and the fun atmosphere. I'd recommend bringing friends or family and getting a couple dishes to share!
I highly recommend the milkshakes! The food is ok, but the milkshakes are where it's at. I ordered the I'm Crazy for Cookie Dough milkshake and it was one of the best milkshakes I've ever had. The flavor is pure perfection. We also ordered chicken tenders and wings to share. They were good but the milkshakes outshined them.
Found this place while just heading down Newbury street heading to Newbury comics. I'm so happy that I did. It was pouring out and I was soaking wet and hungry. Tried the sweet and spicy fries, and they were wicked awesome! I'm a real culinary expert so I paired my fries with an ice cold Angry Orchard and it hit the spot. I'm definitely putting this place on my "must come back soon or life is not with living list" Next time I'm going to try one of those amazing looking burgers!
I've been wanting to come here for a while now and let me tel u it did not disappoint the food was delicious. We had burgers, wings, fries, just a bit of evrything we wanted and everything was perfectly cooked and great flavors. Definitely a must if u are going to Boston and the staff was nice and got our order right. Place was Aweosme it has outside seating to enjoy the Boaton area. MUST IN BOSTON
I'd been wanting to try out CGK for the longest time and if I was purely rating their food, it would honestly be closer to 4-4.5 stars. However, I think the service that my friends and I experienced really negatively impacted our meal here. To start off on the positives, CGK is a fun, casual restaurant where they offer typical burgers, fries, wings/tenders, and shakes with unique twists! There was a decent amount of seating and I think it's a great spot to catch up with friends over some comfort food. Their menu is easily accessible with a barcode and the atmosphere was lively, but not overwhelmingly noisy! In terms of food, I ended up getting a regular burger, but I specifically requested a gluten-free bun and allergy flag to avoid cross-contamination since I have celiac. My friends ordered burgers as well (without any accommodations) and we decided to split a side of sweet and spicy fries (clearly listed as gluten-free on their menu). The portion of their fries is pretty impressive and easily shareable between 2-3 people. The sweet and spicy flavors were really well done - both the spicy mayo and honey sauces really shone through and you're also able to sample some of their chicken tender bites topped on top of the fries. In fact, I enjoyed the fries side even more than my burger - which was juicy and cooked to my preferred temperature, but didn't really stand out at all. My friends also ordered a side of wings to share, though I didn't try that and can't comment. I was really disappointed with our specific server because she acted incredibly dismissive about my serious food allergy, even though I had wanted to come here specifically because I'd heard great reviews about CGK accommodating food allergies! I probably spent almost 5 minutes just trying to get across the fact that I had a serious gluten allergy, which meant that I wanted to make a gluten-free bun modification to my order, and I also wanted to make sure my specific order was flagged with an "allergy." Our server seemed like she was *very* uncertain about how to address my requests and instead of asking someone else for help or even just letting us know that she has to double check the guidelines, she basically brushed off my concerns - at first saying that my order "would be prepared separately" without even putting in my gluten-free bun request, and then when we politely asked if she could repeat our orders just to quickly double check, she was still missing the note about gluten allergy. Needless to say, I felt very anxious the entire time there since she didn't give me a lot of confidence in her ability to handle my allergy. I understand that it can be incredibly busy during dinner hours but the fact that she was struggling with even basic requests for a serious allergy, and that she didn't even bother checking with someone else or asking for help if she really felt like she couldn't handle it, left a really bad impression on our entire table. Despite all the positive review, I'm honestly a bit hesitant to be back - at least because of my allergy. If you don't have any food allergies though, would definitely be a great spot to try out on Newbury!
Yum yum yum. I've been to two locations which the food is still yum just different environment. Newbury location feels like a Dungeon- very tight but they have a little patio if available Malden location is like a take out looking shack. Fries are Large portions good enough for 2people
Cute little spot in the Back Bay Area on a street full of restaurants. Good chicken. Quick service. Friendly staff. I would definitely visit again.
Ordered: Oklahoma Style Burger (~$14): charred onions with a beef patty smashed right over the top, and made double, American cheese, yellow mustard Sweet & Spicy Fries (~$14): spicy fries drizzled with hot honey topped with spicy chicken tenders tossed on hot honey and drizzle with better than ketchup sauce Diet Coke (~$3) Aya's take: We found ourselves at CGK since we wanted something fairly quick to eat that would also be satisfying and filling. Off the bat, I would highly recommend the Sweet & Spicy Fries. They were crispy, spicy, sweet, and just the perfect harmony of greasy goodness flavors. It could've used some pickles to cut through some of the fat and saltiness. The Oklahoma Style Burger was decent but the taste of onions and yellow mustard completely overpowered it. Most of the onions weren't charred (just sautéed) and along with the yellow mustard, it didn't mesh well together. The bun was super soft and fresh, and the beef patties were juicy and well-seasoned. Loved the Sweet & Spicy Fries but the Oklahoma Style Burger didn't hit the spot as I hoped it would.
We randomly decided to stop since the ambiance was so nice and they had a two person table out on the patio. We got a hot mess burger but since it comes with shave beef we opted for a single patty and got the truffle fries to lighten the load. Our server, Debra was so attentive and great, she recommended the mango milkshake and she wasn't wrong! Prices are high but you get a lot of food. We took the shake to go since we were stuffed! Really glad we stopped here, will definitely be back!
I came here on a Saturday around 2:30pm with a friend. It was quiet when we got there but the it got really busy. My friend and I ordered the Double Trouble Burger and the But Make it Spicy chicken sandwich with fries to share and I got a chocolate milkshake. The food overall was tasty and comforting. The milkshake hit the spot but it was kinda of messy once the whip cream started melting along the sides. Only thing that that was on the negative side for me was that I noticed our waitress was servicing majority of the tables in the room to the right of the host stand so the service was a bit slow. Otherwise it was a good experience. read more

I was very excited to try this place. The photos online looked incredible and the menu seemed like it had innovative/unique options. I was left disappointed. The food was just alright - not crazy good. The music was really loud, our table was small, and the chairs were uncomfortable. The service was even worse. There were so many waiters walking around but only one serving a large section where our table was. We had to ask for everything more than once and wait for a very long time. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Honestly, there are so many other options in the city and in the area. read more
Crazy Good Kitchen lives up to its name! I was absolutely obsessed with their parmesan garlic fries and the serving sizes were good for 2 meals in my opinion. The staff was very friendly and I felt comfortable eating by myself. I loved the interior and the decorations made it extremely comfy & cozy. read more
I've been to CGK on Newbury st twice now. The first time I got food to go and was really impressed. This time I ate in with a friend. The menu is pretty simple but has the essentials for a burger place. We got the spicy chicken sandwich and a burger plus fries to share. The food was delicious. The chicken was nice and crispy, but I wouldn't really call it spicy. The only thing I'd add to this is pickles. The burger was also simple but delicious. It felt like an unfussy but good burger, not too heavy! The place was pretty busy, which was kinda surprising at 2:30pm cuz I'd expect the lunch rush to die down. But they were packed. Relatively loud and fun environment for a casual lunch spot. Our server was fine. She wasn't the best server but she was fine, and kinda cut my friend off when she was speaking. She also just didn't pay much attention to us and it took a long time to get our bill when we were done eating. The prices were fine as well, some things were a bit expensive, esp considering that fries aren't included with sandwiches or burgers. Overall though, I'd definitely come back! read more

This is a great place to go for some casual bites when you're craving some good ol' American comfort food. They have a pretty large space inside and service is fast and friendly! Food is solid-- nothing mind blowing but will get you the fix that you need. The milkshake options are fantastic, and the nutella milkshake was a great choice for us! I have only tried the variations on the fried chicken-- in the fried chicken sandwich, and chicken tenders basket and they were both crispy on the outside, but flavorful and juicy on the inside. Exactly what you'd want in a fried chicken. Could it have been more flavorful without going the full on adding extra toppings route? Yes. Will it satisfy your fried chicken craving still? Yes. Try this place out the next time you're around Newbury and don't want to wait in line at Saltie Girl for an hour. read more

Two thumbs up! I ordered the sweet and spicy fries and, considering the modest price of $14, received a hefty portion of fries topped with diced chicken tenders. They didn't skimp on the drizzled hot honey or mayo-based sauce either. Everything tasted freshly made and flavorful. From the time I placed my order in the early afternoon it took less than 30 minutes. I arrived right when the confirmation said it'd be ready and sure enough it was. They were even thoughtful enough to toss a plastic fork in the bag without my asking. Next time I'm in the area I'd like to give their burgers a go. read more
Another excellent visit, though less impressive with apps than the glorious burger. Keep reading to the burger. Chicken Wings: Available with or without fries; best option is to order with to kill two birds with one stone. While the tenders are sizable, crisp, and tender, the wings are crisp but embarrassingly small. I went with the "But Make it Spicy" flavor, more of a dry rub leaning toward paste than a sauce. Pro move is to ask for sauce as well and hit it with some Buffalo for a wetter version of heat. Fries: Again not bad, just nothing really noteworthy. 'Merica Style Burger: Second time trying this one, both times with double patties, and both times superbly executed. It has their "signature" beef patty, homemade pickles, well melted cheese, tender griddled onions cut into large pieces, and "Better Than Ketchup Sauce" that blends unobtrusively into the whole. The bun is a buttered and griddled brioche-y number. But the star of the show here is the glorious beef: it's a smash burger style, so they don't ask you temperature, but it comes out really juicy even cooked to medium. You get a good crust, but they don't push down to get it extra crispy, like many smash burgers, so the bonus is not only extra juiciness but also a delicate interior that feels really good. Beefiness is off the charts. The whole thing combines really well and is greater than even the sum of the well-executed parts. It's so good I don't even mind the dinky wings. (Best approach for next time is a second burger, with just one patty and done in a different style, instead of an app.) Highly recommended. (And I've had the fried chicken sandwich at their Malden location and it's great too.) read more
OMG! This place is amazing and delicious! This time I placed a to go order to bring it back to California to share! I ordered the chicken tenders and a burger. The burger was so good that it just didn't make it to Cali! Lol The chicken tenders did make it and were well enjoyed! I recommend you try this place out! read more

It's been awhile that I crave a burger and fries joint. Especially during the winter season. But, this place will keep your belly warm through out! I stumbled this spot through social media (You should thank em) The food porn got to me and I simply had to try since I was in town. I ordered the double stack bacon burger and let me tell ya ... That burger was a beast of its own! Simply melt in your mouth with dem cheese, the crisp salty bacon, the smash burger patties aroma urgh.... with a side of truffle fries and ended the night with a classic strawberry milkshake. After eating that it just made me want to scream out... mMmMmmm Umerica! When the world is right I would definitely go visit with friends and get our beast mode on. My only complaint is the packaging of the burger. I couldn't get the burger out! Yes, it's perfectly fitted to the size...but gawd dang it I had to stab the thing to get it out! No one likes to kill a burger twice! read more
This place is one of the places I have been to. My girlfriend and I came here for a dinner and we loved the place and the food. We found this place on TikTok and as they recommended on video - we got two cheeseburgers, spicy chicken fries (forgot the name?) and cheese deep. We were choosing between steaks and burgers and I'm glad we came here and found this place. I'll definitely come here again next time I'll be in Boston. Thank you CGK for amazing food and service. read more
I usually write these reviews after our episodes drop but bruh, this spot was so dope and the staff was so cool I gotta show love before! An endless imagination for tender burgers and fries alike. For sure grab drinks here as well. Can't really beat burgers on Newbury Street, kinda like you couldn't beat the Celtics with KG, Ray Allen and Pierce. Try it now and thank me later. Also, remember you didn't eat it if you didn't tag stay eatin! read more

Be warned, this one of those places where everything on the menu sounds so delicious that you might contemplate for 20 minutes what to even get! Honestly, I was very impressed by how good their burgers were! They had an intense flavor and such a unique spin on typical sauces like ketchup and their cheese. I ended up getting their hot mess and cheese that was absolutely delicious with their shaved steak and house cheese sauce. My friend got their 'Merica style and claims it's the best burger she's had in her life. Will definitely have to go back to try their other menu items, especially their highly coveted shakes! Truly a crazy good kitchen! read more
Location: Location is 8/10. Super walkable, bunch of stores near by to burn off the food you just tore up. It's nice. Food: the food is great. The bread to meat ratio is perfect. Bun is perfectly warmed, the meat perfectly grilled. The Fries were doin their thing. Everything was delicious, seasoned well. You know it's good when you're stuffed but keep going. Prices: Decent for burgers and fries these days. Average about $20 something bucks. Service: is always good (to me), i haven't gone when it was super busy. During the week and before 6pm. Place is a bit small, and almost underground? Well it is underground but regardless it has a pleasant vibe to it. Decent seating also. read more

10/08/24 8:58 pm Service was good, no complaints. Ambiance is just OK, it's a burger spot. I had the Hot Mess and Cheese with an extra patty to make it a double. This is probably in my top five burgers so far. Double Hot Mess and Cheese, "Our signature beef patty, shaved steak, double American cheese, griddled onions, topped with/ House Cheese sauce and Better Than Ketchup" I had this with classic fries in which was just OK. I did not want fries with a bunch of stuff in it. I also had the Mango Lemonade which wasn't bad, it was good as well. read more
Thanks Yelp! My office in Back Bay is 0.5 miles from here and I never knew until I scanned Yelp today. What a little gem under the street! I had the chicken and fries---wow. Honestly may be the best chicken I've had anywhere in Boston. I've been to Nashville many times for work and always get the hot chicken there, and the CGK chicken represents! I got the spicy chicken, spicy fries, and burnt butter mayo. While not nearly as spicy, this chicken is in the conversation with Hattie B's and Prince's when it comes to flavor and quality. Get it! read more
Wow. If you're looking to knock yourself into a proper food coma, this is the spot! The burgers here are *phenomenal*. Apparently this place blew up on TikTok so I was nervous this would be overhyped, but thankfully that was not the case. The place is small and was pretty packed when I came here with some friends on a Sunday afternoon so definitely don't be surprised if there's a long wait. We ended up ordering the: - Hot Mess & Cheese Burger (5/5): So. Good. Loaded with meat and cheese. Super juicy and filling! We also ordered the side of dipping cheese because I saw it on TikTok but honestly, you could do without. The burgers already come with a generous amount of melted cheese! - But Make It Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich (5/5): This was surprisingly tasty too! Crunchy and delicious, with a little kick (not super spicy though). Loved the homemade buttermilk ranch on top. This worked REALLY well with the burger - order both to get the best of both worlds! - Buffalo & Ranch Chicken Loaded Fries (5/5): This honestly could be a meal on its own. Comes with chunks of crispy fried chicken tenders with buffalo and ranch drizzle on top. *chef's kiss* Service was quick and portions are massive - you will definitely not leave here hungry. Hoping they expand soon! read more

I wish there were more vegetarian options than just the veggie burger and fries (all the salads come with meat). The service was quick but a bit spotty, we ordered sodas and they took a while to come, it seemed like the servers were a bit all over the place. It also felt like we were rushed to pay the bill and leave. That being said, the outdoor seating was lovely, and the music was great. The portions were also very fair considering the price point. read more

Was curious to try Crazy Good Kitchen, and decided to have it for lunch while we were on Newbury St. My partner and I ordered the 'Merica Style burger, Double Trouble burger w a double patty, and Parmesan truffle fries - TASTE: 4/5 - my 'Merica Style burger really hit the spot, though wish the grilled onions came through a little more. The applewood-smoked bacon and burnt butter mayo sauce were super indulgent in the Double Trouble burger! There was so much Parmesan on the fries, but wish the truffle flavor was a bit stronger too TEXTURE: 4/5 - the sesame brioche buns were perfectly soft and toasted! Paired w the ultra juicy beef patty and melty cheese, amazing though a tad soggy as we kept eating. Fries had a great crisp also PRICE: 3/5 - the single patty prices were reasonable at $13-15, but a double patty adds $5-6. They're 6oz each, so a bit of a splurge SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - the burgers were large & in charge and satisfying, and we got more fries than expected SERVICE: 4/5 - arrived after 11:30am on a Sunday, and came right before CGK started getting filled. Our waitress was attentive and food came out in under 15min ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - the small, below-ground space makes it feel like a hole in the wall, and the interior is minimal and hip. I had never been to Tapeo, the precious restaurant before CGK, before but you can see remnants of the tapas bar's style and design in the bathroom fixtures PARKING: 4/5 - as always, parking can be tough on Newbury, but we happened to get lucky w a spot literally right in front of CGK read more

Oh my goodness, I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally try CGK on Newbury. Crazy Good Kitchen is an amazing small business and serves delicious fried chicken sandwiches, crazy burgers, and yummy milkshakes. I got the fried chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the hot mess burger. His burger was dosed with lots of melted cheese and the meat was so tender. I loved my chicken sandwich as it was juicy and NOT dry!! I loved the pickles and the slaw that came with the sandwich. We shared the Parmesan truffle fries and the Oreo milkshake. The milkshake was probably the winner for me as it wasn't overly sweet and thick! I love a good milkshake!! Definitely come by and try this spot! You WON'T be disappointed! read more

If this food was good for you I would have it everyday. That being said it was a great burger and fries. We got the Double Trouble and the Sweet and Spicy Fries. The burger was very good and juicy, the apple bacon and pickled onions went very well with it. The fries were sooooo good. The hot honey has some heat, but was not over baring. The breaded chicken was so good mixed with the other flavors. read more

Seems as though the quality of the sweet and spicy fries has gone down. I'm wondering if they got a new cook. When I first started ordering them, they were delicious and fresh now, it seems like they are serving up old food. I hope they get it together read more

My first time dining here at CGK on Newbury during the weekday lunch rush. We were seated inside, but asked to go to their patio seating because there was an unpleasant strong odor looming inside. We could see from inside parties getting seated on the patio and it seemed like our server forgot about us. We were finally seated outside and waited a while before we were able to order or get any water. The table next to us ordered at the same time and received their food and mostly finished it while we were still waiting to get our orders. I got a 3 piece chicken tender with parmesan truffle fries and burnt butter mayo sauce. The chicken here is good, crispy, and filling. I didn't taste anything different from the mayo sauce, but the truffle fries were topped with lots of cheese and crunchy. Our server never checked in on us and we waited a while after finishing our food to ask for the check. Thankfully neither of us were in a rush to get anywhere, but I would have expected more from being on Newbury street. Overall, good food, but lacking in service. read more

Flavors - 4/5 Textures - 4/5 Presentation - 4/5 Value for Money - 4/5 Would return? Yes Must-try: Double Trouble Burger As the name indicates, the food here is crazy good. But you obviously need to ditch your diet at home. The Double Trouble Burger (with double patty) is AH-MAZING. The patty's are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and perfectly seasoned and cooked to Medium. The cheese is melted. The bacon is crispy (although chewy in some places). The flavors were harmonious and I could taste every single ingredient on the burger, even the griddle onions and raw onions. The only thing I would add is lettuce and tomatoes for freshness and to balance the fat. I was shocked at how the burger stayed together through every bite and never fell apart... and the burger is huge! How did they do that?! I wish I could say the same about the fried chicken sandwich. I asked for the classic "but make it spicy". The flavor wasn't bad but it was very mildly spiced. The outside was crispy on the edges, but the middle turned soggy pretty quickly. The inside wasn't juicy enough. The piece of chicken is very thick but irregular, which makes the sandwich difficult to eat and get a bite with all the toppings. I also tried the truffle fries which were super crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The truffle flavor was there, but the "parmesan" cheese on it was very weird and unnecessary. Decent fries, but not sure they are worth the extra calories. The portions are huge so this is definitely a fair value for money. read more
