Extremely disappointed with the management, I went in on a Saturday and had a great experience with Stephen the bar tender. He took care of me and provided excellent customer service. Based on my experience I returned the next day and the the service was the total opposite. I sat at the bar and ordered an appetizer 10 minutes before the guy next to me. I asked for the appetizer first and the bartender acknowledged. I received my appetizer at the same time as the guy who showed up 10 minutes after I did and the food came out with my appetizer as well. I ordered crab legs and received no utensils or crackers to crack the crab legs with. I finally was able to flag down the bar tender and he brought me scissors and a fork. Bartender never asked me if I needed anything else. I was finally fed up and asked for my check and to speak with the manager. Might as well not have said anything at all. The "General Manager" who was too busy counting the money from the register in public, seemed bothered that a customer wanted to speak to him. I explained to him that the service was horrible and how it had changed for one day to another. He thanked me for bringing the bad service to his attention and brought me my check. I gladly paid and will never return. There are plenty of better places to eat. I suggest that you pick a better establishment for seafood dinner. I don't understand why this place doesn't get over 4 stars. The crawfish I had here was really good! Fresh, tasty and spicy, really strong Cajun flavor. I go for the most spicy sauce here, works for me but if you can't eat spicy food go for a lower level. I want to try their oysters too next time. Oh make sure to ask for some lime wedges and salt and pepper to make your own dipping sauce. They don't normally give them but the sauce makes everything even better! read more

This was a weird experience to say the least. 1.5 hour wait. surprised it was even open looks like they are understaffed. finally got a booth and everyone was nice but just very slow and inconcistent. Hit or miss but when you hit the jack pot it's amazingly good. Food is consistently good but the service needs to be work on. We always get the Shrimp and Snow Crab from the hot pot and their Fisherman's Catch, try it with fried catfish instead of blackened. Sometimes we do things that make no sense. Like the guy who cuts you off to exit the highway when there's plenty of room behind you, or a person who gets a tattoo of a coffee mug, or me when I decided to drive ten miles out of my way to eat here. I originally wanted to go elsewhere for a shrimp po' boy, but the place I was looking for on Cesar Chavez apparently disappeared. So -- for some stupid reason, even though there's a Crawfish Shack much closer to my house -- I trucked it down here and nearly vomited up the vodka I'd had at Casino South Side when I saw the size of the fucking shopping center that enveloped Crawfish Shack. No, "enveloped" is too kind a word; let's try "engulfed". It amazingly didn't take me too long to find Crawfish Shack among the million capitalist piranhas, but of course there was a wait. That's really surprising, considering how new they are down here, and I doubt many far-south Austinites have even heard of the original location and its epic food. But, lucky me, there were open spots at the bar. And this location is much larger than the north location, yet it manages to get just as busy. Good for them, but terrible for you. The interior looks like they're trying to become a local Joe's Crab Shack, which is disturbing. A positive about this place is the full bar, whereas the north location only serves beer, as far as I know. A negative for me here is that I live 18 miles from this one, which means I'm not about to try driving that far on even one drink. I'd already had my fill at Casino South anyway. Another positive about this place is the excellent service I got. And that's it for me and the positives. Sorry, folks. The food... Oh, the food... I got my usual shrimp po' boy, expecting it to be just as good as the ones I have at the north location. But it was like being 8-years-old on Xmas morning, expecting to get that She-Ra action figure you asked for but getting a Smurfette nightgown instead. I'm sure the shrimp tasted just fine, but I couldn't get beyond the taste of the bread. It didn't *look* burnt, except in a scant few small spots, but it *tasted* burnt. Charred. Carcinogenic, even. And it was a sweet charred taste, like when I used to go all pyro with my S'mores and catch my marshmallows aflame, gleefully watching them turn a crisp black. The bread tasted like THAT. And while a sweet, ashy taste might be okay sometimes on a marshmallow as a sweets-indulging kid, it's not okay on my bread as a sweets-avoiding adult. The taste was nothing short of overpowering. It was almost like walking into the perfume section of Macy's. It was THAT STRONG. I have no idea how bread could look so innocent yet taste so bad. WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. I hate to say this but after being recommended here from a native, this place was by far the worst place ever, why well let me explain... First we noticed a lot of people, yes it is Saturday and yes we were told we had to wait 30 minutes but for our luck we waited less then that but I was quite content since it was just two of us and got seated quite rapidly. After waiting almost 30 minutes sitting in our table without being asked for drinks, or that our server will be with us I got up and asked the host if she seated us in a table without a server (smart-elichy I said) and she just looked at me a little dazed and confused and she then ran off to get someone. Again, after waiting another 7-10 minutes I wanted to just leave but instead we decided to stay since most likely we would have to wait wherever we went and due to the crowd we figured that their crawfish was just heaven sent. Finally, we got a server! Kitty, which is funny because she was actually a host too and not a server! Right after she got to our table and we starred at the menu for awhile we knew what drinks we wanted, our apps, and our meals. we ordered a Dr. Pepper, Coke and Jack, waters, 2 lbs of spicy crawfish,2 lbs of mild crawfish, a cup of gumbo, and 2 lbs of mild blue crabs. We got our drinks, we got our gumbo, then a couple of minutes later my date got his crawfish with all the sides (corn, potato, and sausage) then we got the crabs that we wanted to share and Kitty said that my crawfish was being worked on which again, I did get upset however I did wanted them to be tasty and hot so i started on the crabs as I waited. Finally when my 2 lbs arrived, Kitty said that I would have to wait on the potato, corn, and sausage and mushrooms, again I was down but at the time I was just glad I had my 2 lbs so waiting for the rest was not a big deal up until I began eating my mudbugs! They were cold! Yup, not hot, not spicy, with no sides, after I had waited for so long thinking my batch was going to be fresh but NOOO! After my bowl of sides was dropped off I sarcastically asked by this time if cold crawfish was the "style" or the right temperature that they serve for guests and she said no, that is when I simply informed her how dissapointed overall, that I just wanted to leave but we had made plans and did not feel like going elsewhere and asked her if she could please make sure that they come out hot and spicy, not chilled! She finally brought them right, ate most of them and when I told her I was ready for the check I told her that my check-in offered 5%off my bill, she was polite and said not to worry, she will make sure she took care of me and give me a significantly better discount, which I will not lie, I thought for a second that I was then being a little harsh and that the steep discount as I was promised would make this a better experience, even if their food needed improvement in all aspects. I got the bill and saw that I was kindly given 10% off!!! TEN, 10, DIEZ, yup just a measly 10 but to make matters worst I was also charged for additional corn, sausage, potato and mushrooms that I HAD NOT ORDERED! That right there my friends was my 10% off which it was no discount after all so I pointed that out to Kitty and she apologized she just forgotten on the only table that she was working on to take that off my bill since my initial 2 lbs of crawfish didn't come out until later. She later removed it, brought my 10% off down but by that time I just had enough and did not want to request for a manager since I had other places to be and simply decided to give myself an additional discount by not tipping, Yes I just did that. NO TIP. The morale of this situation, even if all hell breaks loose and have to go out of your ways to still attempt to provide great service for the company that you represent, do not over promise to a client. Do not come and tell me that you will give me something and half-butt it but try to be sneaky and make up for that discount. Maybe it was just me but when a couple wants to simply go out and have a nice dinner before going out, there is so much I can handle as the experience kept worsening. I ordered 3 pounds of crawfish and got them EXTRA spicy. Disappointingly not very spicy and just super salty. The big to small crawfish ratio was good. But the service...wow The service was TERRIBLE. The hostess completely ignored me when I walked in and then when I said it was just me, she gave me this really nasty look and told me to sit at the bar. I've never experienced this but the staff talks really poorly about each other in front of the customers. It's unappetizing to hear what people are saying about their job or their coworkers when I'm sitting there trying to eat. But I ordered 3 pounds of crawfish so I trucked through it. The food is just amazing. I thought at first this restaurant would be on a par with Long John Silvers but the quality is outstanding, something I could easily picture dining at on a beach resort. Also, feel free to bring your markers--you are welcome to write on the hardwood walls and add your own "personal" touch! Hiep, the owner, was very thoughtful in asking what my friends and I thought of the food. I like going to crawfish shack because of the atmosphere with the Draw on the Walls for a more homey feel and their delicious sauce with crawfish. They recently opened the South Austin location so I decided to try it out. This is the only place that I would go for crawfish! No, literally there are writings on the walls of this place from previous diners who rave about the food here. Came in on a late Saturday afternoon and it was still pretty busy. Getting a waitress took some time, but I can understand the kinks as this place being a newer establishment. Other than that, the experience was pleasing. My family knows how to compact food like fleshy Wall-E's because we had a smorgasbord of crawfish, shrimp, boudain balls, and french fries all washed down with their draught beer. The featured presentation, crawfish, was one I can stand behind. Their seasoning is a unique blend of cajun spices and onions, making for very savory head fat juices. The crawfish was predictably smaller than usual given how early it is into the season but among 4 people, we demolished 8 pounds of their crawfish and 2 pounds of shrimp, leaving us very satisfied. The "spicy" flavor of the crawfish is not overbearing but will someone please put a bib on me? Went to the Southpark Meadows location on its first weekend open. Arrived at around 8:40 and they were swamped. We were told the wait would be around an hour and a half, but our instincts told us that too many people on the list were leaving without removing their names and that the wait wouldn't be that long at all. Drove away to get gas, came back, waited another 10 minutes or so and, voila, our table was ready! Our waitress, Angela, was superb. She was fast and kept us informed all along the way about how long our food would take. We each ordered a dozen raw oysters ($11.99/dozen). Fresh and tasty, but small. We were a little disappointed, but only in size. Some were so little that if you put three together they still wouldn't be as large as one at Pappadeaux, and at Pappadeaux they're only $10/dozen. In many places I've been, if the shucker opened unusually small oysters he'd plate them and then add another one to make up for the small size. That didn't happen here. I ordered a cup of gumbo (I asked for no rice) and wish I'd ordered a whole bowl. INCREDIBLE. When it arrived I was a bit worried because I prefer a deep dark rich colored roux and this one was a medium brown. But it didn't matter. The flavor was very authentic New Orleans and I love every bite. We each ordered a pound of shrimp (heads on, boiled) and they weren't what I was expecting. I like a good traditional shrimp boil (pot of water, spices, corn, potatoes, etc) but these seemed like they were boiled and then some sort of saute sauce with onions were thrown over them. I didn't really care for the onion flavor at all. For me it seemed to overpower the flavor of the shrimp a bit, but my friend liked it just fine. Also, the corn and potatoes only come with the crawfish boil, not the shrimp boil (which wasn't really a boil). That seemed a bit unusual. And they were overcooked. A bit mushy, but not inedible. We each had an Abita beer (only two flavors to choose from: Purple Haze and Amber). I'd go back for the gumbo if nothing else. Yum, yum, yum. read more

This place is new and still finding its footing. The food is the same great food you get at the Wells Branch location. The service is still figuring itself out. We had a group of 11 (which, admittedly, is huge). We waited at the bar for over an hour to get seated. Then, after we were seated and had ordered, our food came out at all different times. Some people were eating while others were still waiting. One person's order got forgotten altogether! And forget about drink refills, that's not happening. They deserve another chance, since they're still new. But they need to pick it up service-wise. read more

I don't understand why the prices never change. It's always so expensive, even when it's crawfish season. With that being said, it's one of the better crawfish place in Austin. If you're getting crawfish, go with the medium spice for a nice taste because once you get to the hot, it's really not that much hotter, but definitely saltier. Waitstaff is average. Hit or miss. Sometimes you get all the attention you need and sometimes no one comes by. Gumbo is good, and medium shrimp is very sweet and tasty. Also, they could have done a lot better with the seating arrangement. Been here several times, mostly for to go order. A must order is the Gumbo, the Shrimp head on. When its crawfish season it is one of my favorite places to get crawfish. I'm giving it an extra star for service because our waitress was adorable and sweet. Unfortunately I was super disappointed with the crawfish. Being an avid mudbug fan, I ordered "as spicy as you can make it" two pounds. They came out in what I can only describe as a bath of butter. Now, I love a butter dip for my steamed crabs or lobster but this mountain of liquid grease was incredibly salty and overwhelming so much that I could hardly taste the food it was on. There was about a half and inch layer of it on the platter which made the seasoning mild and underwhelming. When I want crawfish I expect a massive kick of spice and citrus. My girlfriend doesn't like seafood so it took me a while to convinced her to come along. It took 20 Minutes to get two beers. Took an hour to get 6 lbs of crawfish An hour to get my fries. I know what a pound and 2 pounds looks like. They gave maybe a half pound claiming it was a pound. My girlfriends blackened catfish came drenched in olive oil. And it was cold. And when we brought it up to the manager she pretty much argued with me. On the plus side. Get the crawfish extra spicy -- yum! This was the best part of our meal. We got two pounds in a boil and I was very pleased. Extra spicy definitely wasn't spicy, but it was flavorful. They are really stingy with their potatoes, sausage and corn that they add into the boil. So strange since this is the cheapest part of the meal. You only get one chunk of corn, one red potato and a couple thin rounds of sausage. The corn tasted weird though -- really starchy or something. They have a dollar off beers for their Happy Hour (5-7pm), so our Blue Moons were only $2.25 each. We also ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell and were satisfied ($11.99). Our waitress strongly encouraged us to get the seafood egg rolls, but I was not impressed. I wouldn't order them again. Our service was great, but then again we came here at 5pm when not many people were there. We tried coming here last week and it was so packed, no one was at the hostess desk and people were actually writing their own names on the list. There was no order whatsoever so we left. Discovered this spot during SXSW earlier this year and I have been hooked since! I have come once a month and made the short drive from Fort Hood. I always get the snow crab pot and add what I want. For every two pounds you get corn, I believe 2 red potatoes, and onions. When doing the pot you get to choose flavor intensity! They have mild, medium, Cajun(spicy) and two other super hot flavors. My wife always gets the fried soft shell crab with whatever we order. The menu is vast but not overwhelming. We ordered one pound of crawfish which were really small considering it was crawfish season some of them didn't even have tails on them one pound of shrimp which was which somewhere very tender and some more tough and one pound of snow crab legs which were fairly decent rice was and the gumbo was horrible not what not what I was expecting it was very soupy and very greasy on the top.
