Great place to pick up desserts for a special occasion!

Cravings is a literal interpretation of what the '90s felt like. This seems to be a concept that they embrace because their decor has not changed since then, and their menu still advertises the two desserts that won them James Beard Awards...in 1993 and 1994! If you are looking for a trip down memory lane, a place where the bottled beverages are expired (seriously- the Crispin cider was expired), or for your server to turn his nose up at you, this is the place to be. The food was fine- the outsides of the cakes were a little stale, the ice cream seemed to have had freezer burn on it at one time, but they weren't bad. Weren't fresh. The '90s. read more

I chose to book a dinner here for my wife and I on V-day. It was the worst experience possible. They sat us in the back by the drafty door, next to the bathroom traffic. The smell and freezing air made dinner miserable. They charged me $58 for an entre that could hardly feed a child. The was rude and slow. The owner seemed nice and his wife (im guessing). Yet the male server was extremely rude. They need to get rid of the guy. He seemed to hate his job. It took us 7 min to sit, 10 min to order, and 30 to get our food. I will say the food was good but that was hardly noticed due to the rest of the experience. read more

My favorite place to go with my family. It's never too crowded that I have to worry about whether or not I get a seat. Plus with the amazing food like the Chicken Provençal, it's a good food place in general. But my favorite part of probably the dessert. Yes it can seem a bit pricey, but it's the perfect way to spoil yourself or others. By far the best cake I've ever had, and trust me, I've had a LOT of cake. read more

My husband and I have been going to Cravings for about 6 years now. The owner Tim did our wedding cake and just did our daughter's in December. It was the most talked about food portion of the weddings! We eat at the restaurant once a month for dinner, sometimes more often. Cravings is one of the most underrated restaurants in St. Louis. Yes, the décor is dated...so don't go on a night when ambience is your number 1 driver. But, if you want food that is downhome, consistently great...and I do mean great, a wonderful and caring owner who as the below reviewer says treats everyone as though he knows them, great service from our favorite server Chris, then go! And when you go for dinner, be sure to get the ravioli appetizer. You'll get soup or salad with your entrée! A delicious hot roll with handmade herb butter...yum! And any entrée is delicious...so choose one. Our favorite specials are the shrimp pasta, the chicken and waffles, the chicken parmesan, fried chicken, any of the salmon and pork specials...oh, I could go on! Favorite dessert, citrus torte...it's sweet! Favorite special dessert, the cream puff! Kelly Reinhart read more

I ordered an 8 inch cake for my anniversary. The cake was disgusting and dry. The cool whip filling was nasty. The vanilla icing was thick and hard. This cake ruined my anniversary. read more

Love eating here! The food is fabulous and you can hear yourself talk and think! Everything is always delicious and hot! Desserts are exceptional! read more

As a retired chef, I highly recommend Cravings! The prices are very reasonable for the high quality of their products. Their dedication to artistry, decadence, texture, flavor and the "wow!" factor are obvious. read more

I've been going to Cravings since my dad moved to St. Louis in 2002. The desserts never fail to impress, which is why we ordered two (yes two) cakes for our wedding from them. We did not go with a traditional "wedding cake" per se, but chose instead two layer cakes which my husband and I can't get enough of: (1) carrot cake (love the cream cheese frosting!); and (2) chocolate with chocolate butter cream frosting and raspberry filling. Fantastic! We knew we would love it, but the true test was our friends and family; they loved it! Everyone wanted to know where we got our cakes. Their staff is professional which can sometimes read as cold or snobby - but I think that's the worst you can say about Cravings. Bottom line: their product is phenomenal! read more

Cravings has absolutely the rudest workers and the worst customer service I have ever experienced from a higher end bakery. The cakes are marginally better than grocery store cake but you will be treated much better at Straubs, Schnucks or Dierbergs. I will never go there again and I would recommend spending your money at an establishment where a culture of respecting customers exists. read more

Worst cake ever. Dry and tasteless. $80 for a cake I could have purchased at Kroger. Would not put any graduation related decoration on the cake for our daughter's Ph.D celebration. Said "we don't do that". Guy who took our order was rude and snooty. And to top it off the cake was not big enough to feed 25 people as we repeatedly asked and so I was forced to fork over $40 more for a mushy chocolate torte on the day of the celebration. Do not go here!!! read more

Cravings - Bakeries Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

I took my family here after we couldn't get into the melting pot on a Saturday night. We had already eaten elsewhere and were looking for a place for good desserts. I wish this location never popped up on our phones. We arrived a little after 6 and the place was packed, even so, they quickly found us a table. We informed the waitress that we were only there for dessert. We ordered 2 hot chocolates for the kids, 2 coffees for the adults and 3 desserts. The problem I had was the price of the drinks and the lack of information about that. The hot chocolate for the kids was $3.75 each, one of my kids didn't drink any of it because it tasted like water with a little chocolate. The coffee was $2.50 each and I am not sure that included a refill or not because we were not offered one. Total bill for a family of 4 that just went for desserts was $32. The staff was friendly and courteous and explained everything but the prices... read more

I usually do not write reviews, but was not impressed when we went to this restaurant. I will say the food was good. However, we probably would not go back. This is because the service was not as expected for what you pay. I was distraught when I told the server that our son had a severe food allergy and he did not even acknowledge it. Instead he just went on to tell us about the specials for the night. Also, the manager of the restaurant went around to every table, but failed to come by ours. It is not a big restaurant, and not many people were there; therefore, it would have been hard to miss us. Truthfully, we did not want him to come by anyway, but it is insulting by when you go to every table except ours. read more

The cakes are delicious, but not worth working with the staff to get them! Thought it was a fluke/bad day the first time, but poor service the next time too. read more

Rude staff, Dessert was ok. Asked for a iced mocha, got an espresso with milk, ice, extra coffee grinds and No chocolate syrup. Don't bother. I try to patronize local shops but next time I'll stick to Starbucks down the street. read more

We have been fans of Cravings for years, stopping in often for dinner or even just to get some to-die-for dessert to go. This weekend, Cravings catered our entire wedding--appetizers, dinner (food stations), and dessert (Whoopie pies, s'mores, mini cupcakes and mocha heart cookies). Tim put together a wildly creative menu that pleased all of our guests--from the Italian relatives to the vegetarians, to the gluten free and the meat-and-potatoes crowd. The food was phenomenal and the service was impeccable. read more

Disappointing experience. Mediocre food, average portion sizes, which is a plus, but prices were very high for the value. Special salad had excellent flavor altho I had to search for the figs. Main dish was just average and for a very steep price. Dessert was the only outstanding part of the entire meal. Wine choices for red were limited and they were out of one of their most popular sellers! Arrived early so service should have been good. Not the case at all. Quickly noticed all attention was given to regular patrons. read more

I have been there twice with different girlfriends each time. The ambiance of the venue is nice. Feels a little like being in France. The main thing that is missing is SERVICE. Both times I was there in the last two months there were only 6 people dining (three tables). The waiter appears kind and starts us off with a drink. The SERVICE he provides is minimal. This same server I had both times is nice, but he seems to be MISSING something. He does not seem to 'enjoy' working there and we did not feel 'welcomed'. $9.00 for a Bloody Mary seems a bit MUCH for a lunch price drink. My friend was able to get the Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich on lettuce instead of on bread. The menu states "generous" but the amount of chicken salad was the size of one ice cream scoop. I don't know the server's name because he did not introduce himself. The owner needs to make changes to make this place "the place" to be for lunch in Webster Groves Old Orchard. read more

NOT FOR KIDS' BIRTHDAY PARTIES! I know children are often just as happy with cakes from a grocery store, but I really like to spend more on the cakes and have them come from bakeries since most grocery store cakes are ordered in from off-site factories. My husband and I have typically ordered from Encore, a bakery in Maplewood, and we have always been extremely happy. However, they were booked the weekend of one of my daughter's birthday parties, so we went with Cravings instead. They were at least $20 more, which would have been fine if they had the service and product to match. To be fair, they said they typically do weddings. Fine, but I would argue they were EXTREMELY unhappy to do a kid's birthday cake. First, the owner/manager we worked with made it seem as if we were waisting his time. I mistakenly gave him the benefit of the doubt and passed it off as eccentric behavior. Second, they were unbending on altering their "typical" format--for example, all fillings except the "fruit" were either laced with rum or were nut based--so instead of being willing to make a cake without filling, I had to pick a fruit. Fine. Third, they apparently do not use colored frosting. I assume by that they mean pink, blue, etc. This was not made evident to me, but again while I would have been fine with "no pink", I was shocked that they used brown on brown frosting that said "Happy X birthday, X. No attempt to make it pretty WHATSOEVER. No rosettes, pattern, etc., not even the use of white frosting for contrast. For $100? We called, and once again the poor customer service. Bakers gone, we will do nothing to make it pretty and special for your child. No idea on taste yet, but even if it is very good, presentation is half the reason for buying a special cake, whether it be for a wedding or for a kid's birthday party. So, as a word of warning, if you choose Cravings for your wedding, and then you have children, know well that they will not want your business for your children's birthdays in the future. read more

I can't begin to tell you how exquisite the food is, how meticulous the execution of their services is, how kind and patient the owner Tim Brennan is. But I don't have to tell you because he has won the James Beard award for being the best baker in the United States. If you want originality and a gorgeous presentation, if you value tender pastries made from scratch, or the finest wedding cake, or the most elegant brunch you must use Cravings. Tim Brennan is a nationally recognized treasure in our back yard. read more

AWESOME SALMON. The owner and his wife came out and spoke and were vey kind. Atmosphere is cozy, elegant, and relaxing. Entres are solid and you have got to try the monster cookies. A "must go" whenever I'm in Webster Groves. Perfect for a date night or a family dinner. read more
