We ate here twice in the past week and I wish I could give 3.5 rating but gave a 3 as it isn't quite a 4. The Schmidt burger and parm fries were great. The steak, the service and the music was not great. The hostess was nice but the 2 waiters we had were unhappy people or just rude towards out-of-towners. The older male waiter literally threw a straw at me when I asked for one even though I had my hand out and extended to take it! They play really loud 90s grunge music but the lunch clientele seemed to be mainly families or older couples...just didn't match but we all sat there and ate anyway. It's also not ideal the restroom door faces 3 tables. So people at those tables are eating facing and can see the toilet as guests enter and exit the restroom. I went to Craftsman Brew during their happy hour on a Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival we were greeted and sat at a table immediately. The restaurant was clean and a great vibe! Their happy hour menu was short and sweet, but we were told that upfront. We ordered the wings, Brussel sprouts, and the burger on the happy hour menu. The brussel sprouts weren't what I expected, but in a good way! They had a bit of tang to the sauce and also included green apples. I swear, I'll try to homemake this recipe myself! The wings were delicious! The burger was a smash burger. The bun was also smashed, so the presentation looked a bit odd for the burger. However, the burger was juicy, and seasoned well. Fantastic food found at Craftsman! This establishment has moved slightly from its original location, but is still in the same general area of Edwards Riverwalk Roundabout. It was easy to find and there is plenty of parking in the plaza. I enjoyed grabbing food here for lunch recently when I was visiting the area, and tried the Oven Roasted Tomato Soup, Hot Chicken Sandwich, and the Schmidt Mac. Everything was flavorful and hit the spot after I had a morning hike. The food was really good and inventive! The menu had a nice variety and was priced as you would expect for being close to a ski town. Service was ok until we needed the check. Our table had been cleared and we were trying to flag down our waiter to ask for the check, but he was busy attending to other tables. We were able to get the attention of the manager on duty, who came over and made some rude remark to us because we were gesturing for the check. He gave us the mobile POS device so that we could be on our way, however we could have done without the nasty attitude. I have never encountered something like this coming from a "manager". I'm not expecting a manager to make small talk with the table, but being rude and having an attitude towards customers is inexcusable. It doesn't matter how great the food is - customer service is what people remember! There are plenty of other places in town for locals and visitors alike to spend money for a tasty lunch or dinner, a manager with a bad attitude will never fly in my opinion. I'm a fan of the food here at Craftsman, and it was some of the best tasting food I had while visiting, but the customer service needs to match the excellence of the food. Another thing to keep in mind is that on the menu it mentions a 5% surcharge will be added to all checks to support the staff, and you can let the staff know if you would like it removed, something to be aware of when it comes to calculating the tip. I wish the owners success with this larger location, but who wants to go back to a place and spend money where the staff is rude, certainly not me. read more

We shared the crab rice and the Parmesan fries. The fries were as expected. They are shoestring fries - crispy but not overdone. These were good but not out of this world. Seems like Craftsman is missing an Espresso machine-at least I'd love a nice Americano or latte with my Schmidt Mac or Philly Chile Philly. Craftsman gets five stars from me, but if I had to nit pick, I'd say the nit that requires picking is Craftsman's (and to be fair, other hipster sandwich and coffee shops) follow a disturbing trend of offering me all manners of deliciously decadent foods that will kill me, but REFUSE to offer granulated sugar or Splenda (or Coke, for that matter, but don't get me started). Wow! We never ever give five stars. So assume that this place was one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. Coming up to the mountains, we always expect mediocre food, "mountain time" service (extra slow) and great beer. This place has the best food we've had (even across major metropolitan cities), fast and efficient service and great beer. You pick up a menu at the front and find a seat (many community tables). Order from the bar when you're ready. My husband ordered the French dip and I got the bahn mi based on reviews here on yelp. Neither disappointed. The portions were huge - recommend splitting if you can agree on something. We got kids meals (cheeseburger and grilled cheese) which were just okay. But they didn't care. We got two amazing beers - Outer Range DDH IPA and Two Roads Too Fruity IPA. Both were exactly what we wanted. Finally you need to save room for the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip cookies. They come in sets of two and one is plenty per person. The ambience is new and clean and farmhouse-like and we never waited more than a minute for anything we asked for. Our reservation was at 6:30 PM the hostess/manager told us she didn't have a table on the patio but she said we were next for a patio table. 20 mins later she swung by the bar to let us know that she didn't forget us and that she was "stalking" the people just sitting there. She said the guy singing was really good and she would get us out there to hear him. We watched another party get seated out there then we saw two more tables get seated and the hostess/manager hugged one of the second party. (Just a guess this was a friend?) " She said " oh my I forgot you" and apologized saying she would make a difference on our bill. My husband responded "No need, just forget it we will eat at the bar." He asked for the manager and this is when we found out she was the manager. He said " oh wow" to which she replied very aggressively "That's right managers make mistakes too.!" This is when we should have left but... we ordered. Steak frites (up sold to wagu) and a hamburger that was touted as the reason the restaurant was built . Twenty minutes later the " wagu" came bleeding all over the plate and so raw it was purple. ( we ordered medium) and his hamburger came as a fried chicken sandwich! They left him the Parmesan fries which were cold so he told them he would wait for his burger and warm fries. So...10 minutes later "wagu" steak frites comes back out . Same piece of meat re- warmed up, hmmm. Meanwhile some guy with crazy eyes comes out to the bar and asks if everything is ok. We say yes although it had been a disaster. Remember this guy for later). In another 20 minutes (no joke) my husband gets his burger ...the bill comes - they took off his burger and a couple drinks. When we tip we tell the bartenders the tip on here is for the drinks only - the food doesn't deserve a tip to which the bartender responds " I understand." We are leaving and they that hostess/manager ask my husband his name to which he replies " Don't worry about it." They follow us out and the manager says " Don't ever come back!" To which all three of us reply " you can count on that!" She says " Good, you are not welcome back and here is our owner's name and number." We say great we will take it. We start walking to our car when I realize I don't have my phone. I turn around to walk back to get it. Guy I previously mentioned (from the bar w the crazy eyes) is standing there arms crossed his chest and he tells me "You aren't going back in." I told him I left my phone. He said someone else would get it . I said ok. Then he repeats you are not welcome here! There are people hearing him. I asked him if he was aware of what had happened to us that evening which he said yes your husband wouldn't take an apology and he was rude to our manager. My husband saw him getting in my face and started walking back. Once I got my phone I turned to my husband and said these people are nuts let's get out of here! The manager lifted her phone like she was videoing . I hope she did and I hope she shows the poor owner, Chris, who they will undoubtedly tell we were unruly patrons. People, we were not unruly we were honest! They messed up our reservation, forgot us and then messed up our food but they expect us not to say anything?!
