I opted for a side salad, while my mom enjoyed the tomato bisque soup, both served with delicious focaccia bread--what a treat! When our main courses arrived, we were blown away by the generous portions and the outstanding quality, all for just $35. To top it off, our waiter was exceptional. He was training a new server, and both were impressive in their attentiveness. He consistently checked in on us while managing several other tables seamlessly. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I'm thrilled that Carson has such a gem. The waiter mentioned how much the chef genuinely cares about the food, and it truly shows.

Of late the food quality and presentation was so so compared to a month ago. Staff seems visibly unhappy. On a Saturday night at six, maybe seven groups of diners. I am baffled. Unfortunately, Gateway Cafe gave me absolutely nothing but attitude…read more We hadn't even sat down. We walked up and were told there was a 35+ minute wait, which is fine, restaurants get busy. But the hostess looked me up and down and then hit us with, "leaning more on the +, 30 minutes." Like okay girl, why are we doing all that? We jokingly offered her $100 to let us in earlier and she goes, "No, I'll take your money after you eat the food though." And honestly the joke would've landed if the energy before that wasn't already so weird. At that point we literally just left. And what makes the whole thing even more ironic is that Gateway Cafe markets itself as woman-owned and LGBTQ-friendly, but the experience did not feel particularly welcoming or inclusive. The clientele was overwhelmingly older and white, and as someone who clearly did not fit into that demographic, I felt very aware of it. There was a palpable feeling of being looked at rather than welcomed. Obviously, I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but this was mine. And I'm sorry, but if I'm already uncomfortable before I've even ordered a mimosa, why exactly would I stay and spend my money? The food could be incredible. I wouldn't know. We left before we ever got the chance to find out.

My eggs were good and so was the avocado toast but the bacon didn't work for me - tough and really hard to eat. I wound up taking it off and leaving it. The only thing we were bummed about was that when orsering rhe mashed potatoes, it didn't come with gravy. That's only on Friday's when they have their meatloaf dinner. But that's okay. Duck it is in red curry, I think yellow curry would have worked too but the red curry was a better decision, I'll try it with their yellow curry another time. This dish is not on their menu but I did talk with Tee Jay about using duck for their curry dishes and he agreed that could be a future possibility. Well the future possibility is here. This was a boneless dish which I did not expect, I was expecting bones. This really made a different dish than what I was envisioning. I've never enjoyed duck that was so easy to eat. Since this is not on the menu I would have you contact Tee Jay to insure he has it prepared since the duck has to be roasted first and he may not have it available all the time. This is a great off menu item if you want to get into something different and well worth your consideration, I certainly would ask for this whenever Tee Jay has duck available.

Burger, pastrami sandwich, BLTA, fish & chips, and the brisket. The Tahoe IPA beer was great. Kids all ordered soft drinks, plenty of refills offered! We all enjoyed our meals, except brisket boy. The sandwiches were nice, burger solid! The fries were really good, seemed like fresh cut. When I looked at what others were enjoying, we observed that the wings look to stand out. Next time we'll explore wings & fries....and more beer! Service was attentive and the patio very pleasant!

The good: Our server was great. She was personable. But she did mislead us when describing how…read moreeverything on the menu was good. But at the same time, it would be silly to hear a server say bad things about the menu items to their guests. So, she was just doing her job. The bad - The food. Of all the things we ordered, the cheese curds were the best thing cuz...how could you go wrong with frozen items you throw in a fryer? Anyway, we also ordered the Fried Pickles. I enjoy fried pickles, but holy sh*t these were SALTY! These pickles were more like chips. They were actually light and crispy which is unusual as fried pickles are typically still soft and and keep their integrity after being fried in a batter. These, however were like, dehydrated pickles that were battered and deep fried. I really liked how crispy they were, but with how salty they were, we couldn't finish it. Chicken Pot Pie - one of the more popular dishes ordered. It looked great when presented. The top crust looked nice and thin like a cracker, but when I dug in, the filling was runnier than what I am used to. But more importantly, the flavor was off. I assume they use a frozen pie crust because it didn't taste buttery at all. It had a weird chemically taste. I missed having that rich buttery crust a pot pie should have. The filling didn't taste great either. Also, had a weird chemically taste to it. I almost think they use canned chicken based on the flavor and texture it had. I was so looking forward to a homey comforting pot pie. It's not often I get to eat one of these, but this one fell way short of my expectations. The Lamb Burger - My husband loves lamb and it's not often you see a lamb burger anywhere. He was so excited to have this, but was so disappointed after taking his first bite. He said it was so bland. I took a bite. And while it did taste of lamb, I agreed it lacked seasoning. Now, THIS needed some of the salt that were in those pickles. Lol! Foxy Fried Chicken - A panko fried chicken breast. It was good. Mashed potatoes were good and the veggies. I didn't expect this dish to be spicy though. I don't know if the cook went heavy handed on the pepper, but the veggies and mashed potatoes it was served with had a kick to them. Meh. All in all, we wouldn't return. There was nothing we had that made me feel like this place had potential and worth making another visit to. We did order quite a few things and everything, but the curds were lackluster and a disappointment.
