French Dip
Lisa W.

Ordered the French dip, never have I tasted something so awful. It's greasy, old roast beef. Full of fat and no flavor. Tried to give it to my dogs and even they wouldn't eat it. I wish Jacks was open late so I could have just ate there.

Garlic bread.

I've been coming here for many years. Before we go any further into my review, this is a diner, not a 5-star luxurious restaurant. Let's keep that in mind. This is a nice, inviting and "cozy" diner. The lighting is nice, the spacing between tables is fine and you feel at home. The staff are always friendly, the service is reasonably good, you neither wait too long, nor too little to where you feel rushed, in my experience at least, and the food always comes hot and delicious. When I'm here, I usually get a hamburger or sometimes opt for a dinner option, such as the meat loaf or the chicken strips (there are other options), which are accompanied by your choice of potatoes: mashed, fried, baked. And then you get to choose between a muffin, piece of cornbread or garlic bread. Whatever you get, it'll be sure to fill you up without leaving a hole in your wallet. Have there been mishaps with my orders before? Sure, there definitely have been, but they were resolved and always done without argument and a warm smile from the staff.

Freshly squeezed.

Charles excels at running the place. From the moment we arrived to departure he keeps moving about with determination, and very possibly a proud Marine? as he shows all the good traits the finest do. Food, yes, has its hiccups but never enough to condemn permanently. Service as of late, at least 6 months or more, borders on exemplary, above average. Considerate, well mannered, extremely pleasant personalities or we been lucky to be served by the best. Seniors score what is probably a very enticing set of choices under the Senior Menu. Let's just say it delivers in general. Kids also benefit from value options. Patrons in general seemed satisfied in Cozy as attendance is not dismal, meaning no action, sad. I understand they been around since the 1960's which attest to their well deserved place in the community of this great place called Chico. Grievances: Clam Chowder (Friday's only) where are the clams? Are they still swimming in the ocean? Let's leave it at that as the staff is polite and accommodating I'm sure. A great manager directs a place like a fine tuned orchestra, and here in Cozy, now displaying modern black outfits as seen in very nice places, Cozy seems to make its own kind of music. 4.5 Stars.

Mashed potatoes and gravy

We've come here three times now - 2 times for the broasted chicken dinner and once for breakfast. The chicken dinner deals are sooo good! They come with a ton of food for a super great price and the chicken is so delicious. It's super crispy on the outside while staying super juicy on the inside. Highly recommend! The pies are also bomb. Breakfast is good too. We spent about $40 for the 4 pc chicken + an extra breast, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and two slices of pie!

This place cannot be best in Chico !!

Sat at my table for 20 minutes when it wasn't even busy without any service. Got up and left. Unacceptable.

Friendly comfortable service. Food is pretty good. Exactly what you'd expect from a local greasy spoon.

My wife and I came here for a date night. In the reservation, my wife asked for them to put a rose…read moreon the table. The host told us they didn't have any roses but came out with a little bouquet! For the dinner part, we were expecting a little more. The complimentary cornbread wasn't great in our opinions, but I'm sure others may like it. It's clearly homemade and comes with 3 different butters to put on top. We ordered the Salmon and Smashburger and they were both definitely over priced for what it tasted like. The salmon didn't have a lot of seasoning so it sort of tasted like something we'd give our cat. The sweet potato's on that dish were also not the best. The smashburger, in my opinion, would've tasted better if I got it from In N Out across the street. The entire burger just tasted like meat..no seasoning and there was maybe a drop of their aioli on the burger so all in all it just wasn't the best. I would've had a better experience at In N Out. We also ordered the Wagyu meatballs and never received them. We thought it was taking a minute to cook but all we got instead was the check..he didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert. We had wanted to check out their dessert menu and possibly get their strawberry shortcake but I guess that wasn't in the cards for us. We also ordered a cocktail and mocktail. My wife's mocktail (Kava Mule) was great! My cocktail (Horchata Mai Tai) was genuinely the strongest drink I've ever had. The flavor was nice if you could get past the amount of Bacardi they poured in there. Every drink I took felt like I was taking a shot. So with all that being said, unfortunately we won't be returning to Rancher's Daughter. Between the bland and expensive food, the forgotten about meatballs, the check rushed to our table, and the drinks..it's just the not the place for us.

We really had high hopes but were let down. We shared the complimentary corn bread, the arancini, and the hummus crudite. I had the turkey Thanksgiving dinner plate and my husband had the tri tip Thanksgiving plate. The starters were okay - cornbread was a very light texture and the butters that came with it weren't that good. The arancini was fine, just nothing too special but didn't come out very hot. The hummus didn't taste like much and came with a ton of bell peppers, Kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, and some pita. The turkey dinner was not good. The mashed potatoes and the turkey were okay. The root vegetable medley was not good and the stuffing was terrible, it was so mushy and weird. The gravy on the mashed potatoes already had a film over it like it had been sitting out for a while and was not hot at all. I also got an espresso martini that was not good. My husband got the horchata Mai tai - he liked it. My husband said the tri tip was okay but overall the plate was disappointing. They also mentioned on the phone that they would give us a complimentary dessert for my husband's birthday but never brought anything out. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a busy night and might give them another chance with their regular menu entrees but I don't have high hopes.

We had kids with us, so we got there an hour before it became 21+. Everyone was friendly, the food came pretty quick relative to how hopping it was. We ordered: Pho-rench dip (w/fries)--I think this was a DDD sandwich, so it's not some hidden gem, but it was super tasty. You cannot go wrong. The slight lime-iness of the dipping broth really kicked it into turbo. Also, we all likes the steak fries--a note on that later. Chicken Cheese Steak (w/fries)--my wife loved it. I tried a bite, and it was great--a little mushroom-forward, but we like that. Mac and Cheese--do not be fooled by the slightly smaller bowl, it is very filling. My son can eat his birth weight in pasta, and he had to tap out! I tried a bite--it was creamy (not grainy at all), and was just the right amount of salty and cheese-funky. Grilled cheese and tomato soup (w/fries)--perhaps the least successful for my family, but only because my daughter prefers a smoky/spicy tomato soup, and this was more on the sweet side. The griled cheese was of the "crispy cheese on the outside" ilk, which my daughter thought was really good. So, totally would go again. IMPORTANT NOTE (to people traveling through Chico, or who don't want to take leftovers)--the sandwiches are pretty big, and the add-on fry order is also sizeable. If we were going again tomorrow, we would either order 1 fry instead of 3. Or split a sandwich. Very very good pub.

Not sure if it was on "off" day for the chef but the Shepherds pie had zero flavor as if no spices or salt was used. The celery and carrots were undercooked and crunchy. There was hardly any meat and veg compared to the amount of potatoes on top. Potatoes also had no flavor of salt or butter. So bland and blech! Aside from the taste of the terrible food, the prices were way too high for the amount of food..$26 for a very small shepherds pie. There is no wait staff. You place your order at the counter. Once we ordered and paid for two shepherds pies (with the tip upfront) we found a table and sat down. The cashier then came to tell us there was only one shepherds pie left (on a Saturday at 5:30 in the evening?) and we could order something else and since we had already paid, he would give us another drink or something to offset the difference. We then ordered The Rancher. This also had hardly any filling with a puff pastry on top. Again, way overpriced at $24. We didn't get another drink to make up for the price difference. On top of all this, the Saturday evening "entertainment" was a group of senior citizens singing songs from the 50's and 60's very LOUDLY. It was a strange choice for a weekend night at a bar. No offense to the singers but wow, it was awkward as you feel as if you have to give a bit of applause since they are literally right next to the table. We left after eating a small amount and went to find dinner somewhere else.
