Got this to-go during our stay in Chico. My boyfriend got the California Burger, I got the Mushroom Jack Burger, and we shared large fries (well done). My boyfriend thought the California was decent but the cheese skirt was a bit overpowering. I thought the Mushroom was good but I didn't really taste the mushrooms. Fries were large enough to share. Just a small town girl... We decided to stop at nobby's, since it was new to both of us, and we both were hungry. The layout of the small little tiny, larger than a shack, but smaller than a full size restaurant location, is a tad bit offputting. The outside seating that also has a door leading into the restaurant, is rather deceiving since it's the back door to the restaurant and not for customers. The front entrance is around the other side of the building , and bathrooms are outside and yet the other side. Indoor seating is wobbly tables and plastic chairs. Ironically, they aren't uncomfortable. You order at the counter, and your food will be brought to you. You can pretty much order a burger from nothing on it, to anything and everything on it. It's very reasonably priced, and they interestingly claim to be the ones to invent the cheese skirt. If you're from the Sacramento area, you know are other local Burger joint that claims the very same, and they've been featured on many food shows. So maybe that title is up for grabs The burgers are good, but nothing exceptional. We also ordered fries that definitely needed to be salted. Even after adding salt they seem to be missing something. We shared a shake, which was super thick and really delicious. Bonus points for making a tasty shake. Nobby's is a local joint, and I thought it was interesting that so many people were coming in and picking up or placing to go orders. A lot of the orders were just for fries, or just a burger, or whatever. They are definitely loved by their local community. If you're in the area and you want to avoid fast food, this definitely would be a great place to stop for an inexpensive quick bite. read more

Actually, my husband announced this morning that he wanted a cheeseburger for lunch. We looked online to find "Chico's best" recommendation. Locals and others had shown lots of love for this decades old burger joint. We decided it was time to taste for ourselves. The near postage-sized burger joint - yes, it's fair to call it a joint and that's not a bad thing - was serving just a handful of diners when we arrived around 1:30 on a Friday. Figuring this would beat the lunch rush. First timers, staff at the counter patient and friendly answered all our questions about the menu. How to get the cheese skirt, all the extras, the most popular. We opted for the classic Nobby Cheeseburger and cheese skirt. Onion rings, fries, chocolate shake. Covered all the basis. I was off bread that day and so was offered my Nobby's burger with a lettuce wrap - perfect option. The original owner, we soon learned, is related to the original owner of Sacramento's once famous Squeeze Inn where gigantic burgers with cheese skirts were a burger lovers dream. But that's another story. Gary Noblett came to Chico and Nobby's continued the cheese skirt history. Big burgers and crispy cheese. The Nobby's signature burger continued onto a second owner and now, a third. Locals Philip and Jessica Brun took the burger reigns in early 2023. We chose this restaurant due to the "best burger in town" reviews. We were just visiting Chico, so I can't tell you if that is true or not. We ordered a Nobby burger with skirt cheese, Wrangler burger and a large fries. The total was $33 with one side of ranch and one side of pink sauce. It took about 20 minutes to get our food, which was fine, they were busy. The restaurant is small and there is not alot of seating, but we were able to sit. The service was friendly and efficient. Now, for the food itself. The burgers were fine, but we were slightly disappointed as they were not nearly the best burger ever. The fries were okay, the portion was huge and way more than 2 people could eat. We eneded up taking home half our burgers and more than half the fries. Honestly, a small fry is enough for 2 people to share. I suspect that the weed store next door might be responsible for some of the amazing reviews. All-in-all, it was a positive dining experience, but I think next time we will try out another restaurant. read more

Unseasoned meat, the cheese itself was grilled and crispy(definitely interesting, but not my thing). Impressed by the fresh produce: crispy lettuce and onions, and a nice, juicy tomato slice. Our side of onion rings contained 4 full onion rings and a few pieces for $4+. When we asked about the lack of rings, we were told "we weigh portions out". Stopped here while driving through Chico. It was our first time, and so happy Yelp exists to give us this recommendation. I got the Nobby burger with the cheddar skirt, and it was soooo yummy! The bun was also delicious. Not your boring burger bun. My husband got the Wrangler burger. Also very good. We didn't try any sides, but the fries came in large portions and the cheese curds sounded enticing. We will try those next time we visit. This is a walk up register serviced restaurant. The servers are extremely kind you might think you're in the South lol. Very nice and accommodating staff. Contrary to popular opinions, I unfortunately wasn't a fan of the cheese skirt :/ It was really greasy, unappetizing, and overall hard to eat even though I was absolutely ravenous and hadn't ate all day. They can make your burger with or without it. They also have chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers, vegi options and even grilled cheese and chicken strips for the kiddos , and adults if you're into that =} Of course they have great fries, onion rings and cheese curds.
