I checked out the place on Yelp and saw they had the cheese skirt on their burgers so had to stop and try. I ordered the Nobby burger which is 1/3 LB meat with the cheese skirt. If you never had it, it is so good. Basically they let the cheese melt off the side of the burger meet and cook it until the edges are crisp. When I got it I wasn't sure how to attack it. Oh my goodness, I loved it! Can't believe I've been sleepin' on this place for the 8 years I've been in Chico! Also, their ketchup is oddly amazing, so amazing I asked about it. Apparently they use Red Gold brand so now I have to go find that ish because it is incredible (much better than Heinz). Fries were my version of perfection. I loved their special sauce (I think it's like a thousand island?). Burger was amazing - we added bacon, cheese, and grilled onion. Reasonable speed to get our food. I will say that, in my opinion, it was a bit pricey (but worth it!). $30 for two burgers with the add-ons, a large fry, and a Squirt. The burgers are large. In the interest of being thorough, I think my husband would give 4 stars as he says the burgers weren't quite his style (he said there was some flavor missing??) but I disagree. So maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea, or maybe my husband just has mediocre tastebuds (I say in a loving, jesting manner). It also made great leftovers. I had half my burger and more than half of the fries leftover. I pan fried the fries in a little bit of oil as well as deconstructed buns and meat/cheese/bacon and it made great leftovers (pro tip: best way to reheat fries is re-frying them in a pan with a little oil according to America's Test Kitchen, and I agree). Overall just very impressed. I regret waiting to try them. You shouldn't so I can live vicariously through you. read more

This burger joint is excellent. The cheese skirt was interesting and a unique burger experience. They offer homemade garlic sauce which is good - almost like a garlic thousand island; goes well with the fries. I'm not an onion ring kind of girl but these were amazing!! One of the best I've ever had. French fries were also legit, the real deal, even had skin on some of them; arguably better than in n out I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and really enjoyed the plethora of mushrooms on the burger. Overall not a wimpy burger spot. My stomach did hurt after eating it, but I'm not accustomed to eating burgers all the time. Definitely worth going here if you have a beef craving. This food at Nobby's is not adequate, and is certainly not worth the premium price charged. I ordered (through Doordash) the Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich with extra bacon and avocado, for $17.52; and the cheeseburger, for $14.78. Just absolutely dreadful food. The BLT was not served on nice crisp toast, because that would have required Nobby's to buy a toaster -- something they did not want to have to do. Instead, they threw the bread on the grill with some oil, and the result was that the sandwich came on limp, oily, greasy bread. $17.52 wasted. The 14.78 cheeseburger, supposedly with thousand island sauce, was a greasy flavorless burger drenched in too much mayonnaise. Ugh. This restaurant charges premiulm prices for this stuff because they can make cheeseburgers with a " cheese skirt", but the food is fourth rate. Absolutely pathetic. The place is quaint and has its charm but definitely not a quality place. "College Good" maybe at best. The burgers were all dried out, meat had no real flavor, no seasoning of any kind. The lettuce was limp, the tomatoes were bland, the onions also lacked in flavor. The bun was ok nothing to write home about. We didn't even realize until after we sat and went through the receipt than cheese was not included, you pay an extra $1.60 for cheese (lose most of the cheese bc they burn it on the grill so you only end up with about 30% of it as an edible portion). Then I got a shake, and this place is supposed to be known for good shakes, what a let down when I order a banana shake only to find out it's imitation and not even a real fresh banana. The servers are a little rough around the edges also, kind of rude if you ask anything extra of them. Not a place I would recommend by any stretch of the imagination. I've noticed that when ordering takeout-style, allowing the burger to sit in its packaging for even a mere five minutes causes the skirt to lose its appeal. The overall product is on the soggy side - and while some may enjoy it, I prefer the immediate experience! Nobby's has been a main staple of Chico for awhile and, to my knowledge, has been in the same spot since its inception. Well I have done it!!!!!! I've found the best burger in the USA!!! I have been traveling on a road trip through 18 states and have ate burgers a lot along the way and this burger with the cheese skirt is the absolute best burger I have ever had! If they could freeze dry these cheeseburgers and ship them to me in Kentucky I would be on board. Also the young man that was at the counter made my experience so awesome.
