Big Chico Burger is officially my favorite burger spot in town. With endless options for customization (burger size, cook temp, grilled toppings, fresh toppings, and sauces) there's something here for everyone. Order time and prices do not align with fast food, because it's not fast food. You're getting grilled to order, all natural, California-grown, certified black angus beef on an artisan-style bun from local bakers. Last night, we ordered two 1/3 lb cheddar cheeseburgers, one 1/3 lb mushroom swiss cheeseburger, the Big Chico Platter (fries, seasoned fries, and onion rings), and 3 fountain beverages. It was ~$60 with tip. It was an all-lady crew last night, and they were working their tails off while still making time for friendly conversation. Aside from leaving with a full belly, I also left feeling like I had had a memorable customer encounter. We've definitely worked our way through burgers around town (Burgers & Brew, The Ranch Hand, etc.) and aside from a very different but equally as delicious burger experience from 5th Street Steakhouse, Big Chico Burger is a standout. You're not my favorite burger in town but you're my pretty close second when I get out of the hospital I crave a burger and today I got out of surgery and I was craving a burger and since you're literally right around the corner for me, I ordered from you. The burger was terrible. The bun was so hard it was like it was stale and your fries were fabulous as they always are but I was so disappointed tonight I'd love to give you another chance and maybe that's how your buns are, and I just forgot, but it was hard as a rock and stale and there was no flavor to the meat, I'm sorry I hate to give bad reviews. Tasty burgers in Chico! They have an interesting setup. They give you the burger and then there is a toppings bar where you can add your own toppings ( ketchup, mayonnaise, red onion, pickles, tomato, lettuce, jalapeño and other condiments) You return the burger to the kitchen and then they wrap it up. Pretty cool art on the walls. Arrived on time to pick up order and had no problems with the orders. All was done as specified when we called! Had a guacamole burger with all topping, cheddar cheese and sweet potato fries. The fries were not crispy but average. The place was very clean, the staff was friendly and the restaurant has a small parking lot. read more

I have eaten here a couple of times now. Atmosphere: 3 stars. The place is pro Pepsi except of the clock on the wall. I felt there was an limited selection when it came to their fountain drinks. It is a well lit wooden table eatery with outdoor seating. A regular place for some families and popular with most locals. Quality: 4 stars. Delicious burgers and shakes. They have awesome onion rings, waffle fries and regular fries. I like their burgers, they dont toast the buns but they get it good anyway. While the sampler platter comes with fries, onion rings, and waffle fries with six sauces. It looks beautiful. Too much for me though. If you order it brings friends. The chocolate shake was thick, deep and strong with chocolate flavor. The burgers come with specials and plain with the burger bar next to where you pick it up when they call your number. Your the boss when it comes to add g to your burger in terms of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and such. Value: 5 stars. The portions are large and the food is filling. I recommend the Big Chico special, it comes with a fries and drink, for about $7. Service: 5 stars. Although they don't have table service they are polite and professional. read more

This was pre-covid that I came to this place. They were pretty busy when I walked in. But my food still came out within a reasonable amount of time. I like that they had their own little condiment area so you can dress up your bun/burger however you like Service: Quick staff. They were working the back! Homestyle burger if I had to describe it. Not the best but not the worst. After ordering a 1/2 pound meal and finishing the burger I was left feeling that I could've made this at home for less than $18. Pros: - Charbroiled burgers - Burger buns - Many burger sizes to choose from - Many burger toppings to choose from - Large portion sizes for sides - Onion rings - Quality - Friendly, well trained staff - BOGO coupons available locally Cons: - Flies in the lobby - Limited chicken choices I've eaten here many times over the years but have never reviewed (long time eater, first time reviewer.) This was my first visit since the COVID-19 mess and I was worried it would negatively affect my experience. Turns out it didn't. Although the toppings/condiments bar is closed due to the pandemic there is a list of items that are available at the register and you simply give the order taker your request for toppings and condiments. My burger was prepared extremely well with everything that I requested for toppings, and none of those were skimped on. The condiments I requested were included on the side in packets or cups, again in good quantities. Prices are average. A little steep for some things (burger toppings like cheese or bacon) and very reasonable for others (large fries, large onion rings, upgrading to a bigger burger.) I usually use the "BOGO with two drinks" coupon available locally in the Yellow Book, so that helps to bring down the price. I only stop in because I have one of those coupons so I hope they will be available in the future. I'd really like to see the chicken tenders available as a stand-alone item outside of the kids meal, or maybe some chicken nuggets. I always like some chicken with my burger and would buy every time if available. Overall tasty burger, tasty bun, tasty toppings, tasty fries, great onion rings, but need some chicken choices. read more

I think this might be the most underrated burger joint in Chico. Of all the local spots, they use the best ingredients. The bread they use for the buns is fresh and unique, their house sauce has great flavor, they have a great selection of condiments at the burger bar (including, and especially dill pickles for a nice acidic hit to blend with the salt and fat of the burger - you might be thinking "every burger place has pickles" but not like these). Their specialty burgers like the green Ortega chili burger and the guacamole special are excellent, though nowadays I enjoy their 1/2lb bacon burger. Fries or onion rings, you can't go wrong. Their beer battered onion rings might be the best in town, but it's hard for me to pass up just a regular batch of fries with their house seasoning. To round out this review, I really like the location even though it's not exactly central, I think they picked a clever spot for their business they were able to build a nice establishment there. They have a small parking lot which can be challenging to navigate, especially if it's full. It's a great place to hit up if you're coming or going to Upper Park and want to grab some lunch or dinner before or after, or maybe you want a burger before you go to see a movie two miles up the road. It's well-situated for all of that in my opinion. If I want to have lunch there on a weekday I try to avoid the rush from the PV lunch hour just because it can be crazy with all of the students in the dining room and patio. Generally speaking though, the vibe is always chill, the kitchen works at a good pace, and most importantly the product is consistently good. Which is the mark of a good establishment. read more

I was excited to check out this place as I was craving a good char-burger. Sadly, I will give this place average as best. The experience started out great and my family and I were eagerly awaiting out order. I ordered a 1/2 bacon cheeseburger, my daughter a turkey burger and my wife a 1/4 cheeseburger meal. Even tough my wife had gotten a meal, we decided get a 1/2 order of seasoned fries and a full order of onion rings. When it came time to pick our burgers up, my had no bacon on it. When I inquired about it, I was told I didn't oder bacon. I will always order bacon on a burger. I asked the gal that rang us up and she said "oh, I forgot to charge you for it" so I guess no bacon cheeseburger for me. We dressed our burgers up the with the condiments and then gave them back our burgers to wrap up as our order was to go. As we were getting ready to leave, we double checked our order. Unfortunately, they forgot my wife's regular fries. When we inquired about it they said "you got the seasoned fries." We pointed out that she had gotten a meal, which included fries and that the season fries were also ordered. They corrected that mistake, but still, not a horrible first impression, but not the greatest either. When we got home, the burgers were ok, The Habit would have been a better choice. We'll give them a second chance sometime down the road and see if I can't get a better experience allowing for a better review. read more

My husband and I went there tonight on 17 February. First off they got my order wrong. Then they came to cleaning my table and the new girl had a towel that was so soaking wet. I had to ring it out behind my bench to wipe the table off. When we got our food, my bun was so cold and not toasted that I couldn't literally eat it. I asked the girl that was wiping off the tables if they toasted their buns, and she said yeah, we toast them before the meat is done, depending how big your burger is. So my bun was not toasted and it was ice cold. This is my second time going there and I will not go back and I do not recommend it. read more

Saw this place on the way to our AirBnB and came back later for dinner. The family and I loved this place this place so much that we came back 6 days later, a day before we plan to go back home. The food is so good. Burgers are way better than a few other places we tried in town. I tried the 1/2 lb Bacon Cheeseburger Classic Combo which comes with Fries and a Drink. I added a side of Onion Rings, which were amazing. They have a Toppings Bar, make sure to try their House Sauce, especially if you like Garlic. Their Burger Buns remind us of our favorite Diner in Roseville, it's so good. The Burgers are grilled over fire and it's so delicious. All around we had a very positive experience. read more

I was coming from bidwell park and wanted to get a burger with my friend/never having tried this place, figured why not? Big Chico Burger very well delivers on a classic style cheeseburger, customizable with all the veggies/sauces you want. We came late and there were people after us. The staff made sure the last people had everything they wanted on their burger before closing everything up, great to see that. I'm gonna be honest, though, hold the grilled onions, hold the house sauce, in my opinion. The bun was amazingly soft, burger cooked perfect, and the fries were still great the next day(a large fry is indeed very large). This place has an interesting layout. You can't see a sign for it on the corner unless your looking at it from a certain direction. A big lit up sign on the top of this establishment would probably bring alot more business. You also can only get in the parking lot one way; If your driving a truck or larger vehicle good luck getting out. The gentleman ringing me up had the attitude of "I wanted to go home, please hurry up and order" at one point he asked if I wanted cheese on my cheeseburger and i replied yes and he just points to the sign having the cheeses. Not even "What cheese would you like". Just points his finger rudely as if I should know the index sized paper cheese sign is right there. He wasn't helpful at all and it took over 20 minutes to get our burgers. I felt like I had to hurry up because I was doing him a disservice. The food was indeed good but man I will never go back to this place. I hate to be like that but I almost felt like saying something to put this guy in his place. Not cool, when I'm ready to drop nearly $40 on 2 burger meals. I have no problem coming in there to speak with someone if the business does reply. I could break down our interaction further as even my friend said "Man what was his problem". Hopefully he has a better shift next time cause I definitely won't be back! I absolutely love Chico Burger! They are a force to be reckoned with, with fellow burger joints in Chico! My daughters and I occasionally go here after school since they are located right next to Pleasant Valley High School and Marigold Elementary. Every time we are greeted with fabulous service and hard-working people. They are very professional and prompt for the quality of food they provide. They have fresh veggies and are consistently the highest quality I have yet to see in this beautiful city of Chico. I would recommend this place to anyone, as they promised their customers great food and amazing employees! Was lured in by the BCB special for $7. When I asked about the size of the small burger that comes with it, person at counter said "about the size of an in n out burger". Decide to try the green chili Ortega combo instead for $12. In hind sight I should have gotten the BCB special. The burger I ordered was a 1/3 lb patty. Sadly it was dry and not much different than one you could get from m Costco. The bun is sturdy but you need it if you like to load up on the condiments. It won't fall apart. Fries were good, plentiful and hot. Almost as good as McDonalds. The self serve condiments are good. If you like spicy, be sure to try the Chipotle sauce. They also have jalapeños. The green Chile and pepper jack cheese were hard to detect the flavors of. I would advise you to skip the fancy burgers and use the condiments bar instead. read more
