Not very busy. This is an old school diner. Myself and a friend had the chicken club sandwich, very good. Other friend had the French dip, also very good. I'm picky about French fries, these fries were hot & crispy, not greasy, so yum! Didn't catch our servers name, she was very attentive and asked if we needed this & that. The food we had was actually good. Tasty and everyone left full. Standard breakfast prices of about $15-20/pp. The downside was that we had an allergy at our table. When we were asking if certain things would be safe, the waitress responded "it's not my job to know that, I just serve the food." Our flabbers were ghasted. So it kinda has that old grandma's house restaurant kind of feel. There are pies in the desert case up front and good desserts. The second time I've eaten here and it's kind of a mixed bag depending on what you get. The salad lettuce was brown. My mom ordered a taco salad and, get this...they put salad lettuce in the BOTTOM of the taco salad. Shredded lettuce belongs on top but putting salad lettuce on the bottom just means every bite you take reaching to the bottom you get soggy lettuce. My mom sent it back and explained what was wrong. Split a patty melt which was just okay as the patty was too thick albeit it was advertised as large. Missing thousand island sauce. Their side sauce doesn't cut it. The carrot cake was pretty good albeit not enough frosting but the cake itself was very moist. Icing also lacking creaminess. I've been a loyal customer at Cozy Diner for over a decade, often eating here weekly. It used to have great food, excellent service, and a true hometown feel. Since the new owner took over, the quality has gone downhill--food is often cold, corners are clearly being cut, and many great staff members are gone. Today was the last straw. We ordered huevos rancheros and chicken fried steak and eggs. The food arrived in under five minutes. The huevos rancheros had hot eggs and sides, but the meat was lukewarm. The chicken fried steak was cold and raw inside, with hot gravy poured over it, and the bacon was rubbery and clearly reheated. The waitress agreed the food was raw and apologized, but when she spoke to the owner, he said to only take half off the bill and completely dismissed us. After 10+ years as a customer, that level of food quality and disrespect is unacceptable. There are many better places in now in Chico, and I won't be returning. read more

I've always had a soft spot for diners. Always will. So imagine my excitement when my wife finally agreed to stop at the Cozy Diner in Chico--a place we've driven past for over ten years. (For context, she can't stand diners or greasy spoons and generally views them as acts of personal sacrifice.) First impressions were solid: roomy aisles, big vinyl booths, TVs showing the game--exactly the kind of place that scratches the diner itch. But once the food hit the table, it was all downhill. My wife's "meatloaf" sandwich looked like canned pet food and didn't taste much better. My chicken sandwich--a supposed house favorite--was only passable thanks to the blanket of melted cheese glued to the bottom bun. I really wanted to like this place, but Cozy Diner just didn't deliver. Never again. P.S. The pies looked toothsome. I've been coming here for many years. Before we go any further into my review, this is a diner, not a 5-star luxurious restaurant. Let's keep that in mind. This is a nice, inviting and "cozy" diner. The lighting is nice, the spacing between tables is fine and you feel at home. The staff are always friendly, the service is reasonably good, you neither wait too long, nor too little to where you feel rushed, in my experience at least, and the food always comes hot and delicious. When I'm here, I usually get a hamburger or sometimes opt for a dinner option, such as the meat loaf or the chicken strips (there are other options), which are accompanied by your choice of potatoes: mashed, fried, baked. And then you get to choose between a muffin, piece of cornbread or garlic bread. Whatever you get, it'll be sure to fill you up without leaving a hole in your wallet. Charles excels at running the place. From the moment we arrived to departure he keeps moving about with determination, and very possibly a proud Marine? as he shows all the good traits the finest do. Food, yes, has its hiccups but never enough to condemn permanently. Service as of late, at least 6 months or more, borders on exemplary, above average. Considerate, well mannered, extremely pleasant personalities or we been lucky to be served by the best. Seniors score what is probably a very enticing set of choices under the Senior Menu. Let's just say it delivers in general. Kids also benefit from value options. Patrons in general seemed satisfied in Cozy as attendance is not dismal, meaning no action, sad. I understand they been around since the 1960's which attest to their well deserved place in the community of this great place called Chico. Grievances: Clam Chowder (Friday's only) where are the clams? Are they still swimming in the ocean? Let's leave it at that as the staff is polite and accommodating I'm sure. A great manager directs a place like a fine tuned orchestra, and here in Cozy, now displaying modern black outfits as seen in very nice places, Cozy seems to make its own kind of music. 4.5 Stars. read more

We've come here three times now - 2 times for the broasted chicken dinner and once for breakfast. The chicken dinner deals are sooo good! They come with a ton of food for a super great price and the chicken is so delicious. It's super crispy on the outside while staying super juicy on the inside. Highly recommend! We had a delicious dinner at this Chico, CA diner that wasn't too pricey. Even though it's been here a long time the interior doesn't look it. Definitely diner decor. Sis had fish and chips which she said was very good, crispy flavorful fish and tasty fries. I sampled a couple fries and thought they were better than average. Her partner stuck with the tried an true, a basic cheese burger with fries. Served diner style on a plate, it had a huge helping of fries. He ate it enthusiastically. I decided to go a hopefully healthier route and had a veggie crepe topped with mozzarella and a side dish of fruit. It was packed with steamed broccoli, carrot, onion and tomato. Since I liked it enough to get it again, I'd call it a success. I also had a large hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. It was basically lukewarm , but still tasted good. They serve breakfast all day here and have a limited menu of beers and wine. The desert case by the front door is filled with pies, bread pudding, and cake. First time coming to the Cozy Diner and I will say I'm really surprised by how well they were rated in comparison to the experience we had. On the plus side- EXCELLENT service, very quick and efficient and polite and couldn't ask for better host and servers, even on Easter when they're busy. Unfortunately the quality of the food just isn't there. Chicken fried chicken sandwich- overcooked, one end had a gray pallor to it, and the sandwich comes dry which I wasn't expecting (no Mayo or mustard served with it- just ketchup on table) Strawberry crepes- I was so so excited for this, and then so immediately disappointed when I realized it was canned strawberry pie filling. Couldn't eat more than one bite. Combo: eggs with ham?, hashbrowns and sausage with French toast. Eggs were generic, the hashbrowns were pretty awful. Cooked on the outside but so thick the inside wasn't cooked at all. Sausage was normal store bought stuff. Now let me just say, I'm pretty sure the French toast was a French toast bake like how people make monkey bread, and that was super delicious and rich and full of cinnamon goodness. If I could make a recommendation it would be to make icing to go with it like a cinnamon roll. Mimosa- no complaints! A group of we ladies, who meet monthly, had our Saturday breakfast there. I can't say much about the service because a weekend breakfast is always sketchy. I recently had surgery and ordered dinner delivered by door dash. I ordered a hot turkey sandwich and fish and chips. The turkey sandwich arrived nice and hot but went down hill from there. The turkey was very tender. I can't tell you about the rest of it as the gravy was so salty I was unable to eat any of it. The second meal was fish and chips. The fries were under cooked and the fish had too much batter and was over cooked. I tried to peel the batter off the fish to eat it but there wasn't much fish. Well first off it most definitely could have been better. restaurant not to busy and always a cheery staff. the waitress seemed to be a little tired or something. maybe @10:30a.m. she needs to be on break? food arrived, eggs cold pancakes hard and basically overcooked. I left the food there and I told the person of my experience. the manager said I should have sent it back. I really didn't have time as I only had a half hour to eat. it came down to this they just wanted there $14.00 but then there looking at me like they just won the lotto and why am I not leaving a tip and for what reason. yeah it is the cooks fault and also the waitress. the food was cold because it was left sitting a while before I received it. Stopped here with my parents when they were in town visiting from Philadelphia. My Dad always likes to hit a diner in the morning to start the day. We chose this place, which I had never visited before. I ordered the California Omlette with Sourdough Toast. The food came out quickly and everything was accurate. I went here with a coworker as I was craving a good club sandwich, and I was not disappointed. This was probably one of the best club sandwiches that I have ever had. It was huge, and they did not skimp on the ingredients. The tomato was not that ripe but it isn't there season anyhow, so I am not going to hold that against them.
