I was forced to trade my Cox receivers for Cox Contour. They said 'all' programming would be lost if I didn't. I record shows while at work so I can watch when I get home. Contour DOES NOT allow you to do that. I was using my DVD recorder and only need the cable box to be on the channel I wanted to record. NOT ANY MORE. I tried to leave the TV on while at work but came home and it was off. CONTOUR only runs for 'x' hours and shuts off. Their "help" desk said there was no way to program a channel in at a specific time. The old boxes did this perfectly. For an EXTRA $12.00 change PER MONTH they will sell me a DVR box. I was also charged $17.00 for the new boxes even though I installed them myself. These are the same people who say "Thank you for being a customer for 19 years" when I call. DON'T switch from AT&T to them! I switched to them and got a quote for cable and internet for $129 mo. Then they talked me into the cox homelife and home phone, raising my bill going up to $169mo. After 4 days with them we realized we weren't going to use the home phone or homelife. When I called back to switch back the $129 mo rate they said that was only a promotional rate and I couldn't get that because I wasn't a new customer!! If I wanted to remove the homelife and home phone it would raise by bill to $230 month since I was outside the promotional period. I literally was a brand new customer 4 days ago. Such a scam its unbelievable!! Wish I had other providers in my area, DO NOT go to them! I had them in the past and left for a reason... read more

If any of the employees pressure you to get the fiber internet DONT DO IT. We were basically told it was amazing and that's what sold us, however, the installation never happened. The employee messed up the order to start things off. Then technicians never installed the fiber line they needed to hook up the internet. So they have wasted my time twice now. Then when promised an expedited work order of 5-10 days, the next appointment isn't until August 1st. WHAT A JOKE. They're lucky I already have cable with them or I would GLADLY go with another provider. Cox does not care about customer satisfaction what so ever. I heard so much bad stuff about Cox I was seriously worried. I did have a little trouble initially, when I placed the order (they subcontract this) but once I started to work with the real Cox people their service was great. The were able to schedule the installation in 2 days! Their service rep, Kevin, did a great job on the installation, even though it turned out to be a long and tedious process. She did a fantastic job of thoroughly explaining my current internet plan and how I can upgrade to a different option that would best fit my personal needs. After having cox for 3 years we went to turn in our equipment the day we got on the road to North Carolina. We turned everything in and the man that helped my husband stated we didn't need a receipt and we were good to go and that they were going to refund us $114. Fast forward a month when I call because we haven't got the check and turns out they lost the modem and that we now owe them $80 to replace it. After dozens of phone calls with them and being told this was going to be taken care of, we now have received a phone call from a debt collector. Our fault for not getting a receipt, but we had a lot more concerning issues to worry about at that time. All I'm saying is ALWAYS get your receipt from them or they will do whatever to scam you out of money that they owe you. read more

I moved to Oceanside from Boston (unfortunately, via Portland, OR) and was delighted to discover both Cox and AT&T-Uverse offer an internet-only option. (In Boston and Portland, you are forced to bundle, which I find incredibly irritating.) Anyway, Cox offered a higher speed internet at a better price than AT&T, so I went with Cox, despite some pretty negative comments, which mostly seemed to be about problems with television. I must say experience has been terrific thus far. When I arrived at the store to sign up, it was packed, yet I was helped very shortly by a very competent rep. We set up an appointment for the installers. (I have tried self-installation and had bad experiences with problems I couldn't have fixed myself, so I paid to have it done by someone who would take care of any issues. It was well worth it.) I also purchased the router, which, despite the up-front expense, is significantly cheaper in the long run. The rep told me she could arrange to split the cost of the router into 3 payments, which helps, as moving isn't cheap. Just at the end of my installation time window, I received a call from the installers saying they would arrive in 10 minutes, which they did. It seems that the installers who had me on the schedule were running late, so they asked another pair of installers to do my work. Since it was just after 5 p.m., I really appreciated their willingness to work late to meet the appointment commitment. The installers were pleasant, knowledgeable, and had my internet up in no time after fixing a wiring issue I wouldn't have been able to. My internet is working perfectly with the strongest signal I have ever had. A simply great experience all around! read more

Adam was extremely helpful when I came in this afternoon. I normally don't post about stuff like this but he was so nice and friendly that I wanted to give him a shout out. He saw from the window that I had my hands full and rushed over to open the door, introduced himself and offered to take the modem out of my hands. He helped me right away at the computer and took care of my needs quickly, making polite conversation as well. We finished in less than 5 minutes and he held the door for me once again on my way out. I signed up to have my monthly bill paid automatically. This worked fine until I add to move and cancel my service. They over charged and withdrew an extra $130.00. Its been over two months since I started trying to get my money back and still have not received it. I have been lied to repeatedly over the phone that the check was cut and sent and still I have no check. I'm so displeased with them that I will never use them again. I will go without service before I ever consider them. If your a current customer I suggest you take your business some where else if you choose to stay I strongly urge you to never sign up for the auto pay service. If your someone considering using Cox consider another company that does not lie to its customers, current or past. To get this review posted I have to give it 1 star but that is even to many. Further more any positive comments on Yelp about Cox I'm sure are from current employees or relatives from those current employees not the average customer like myself. read more

I recently purchased a 3D tv and I discovered Cox does not offer ESPN3D. I contacted Cox to inquire if and when they would offer this channel. Cox informed me they do not plan on offering this channel due to the fact that most of their customers do not own 3D tvs. I discovered that AT&T, DIRECTV and Time Warner Cable do offer this channel. I am canceling my cable tv, internet and phone service as Cox could care less about their customers. read more

Very disappointing. After repackaging my services with an on line offer, to accommodate our current need, it has been one headache after another. After a month of failed customer service interactions, I finally got ahold of a guy that really helped me out. Or so I thought... Turns out, no matter what you discuss, whether verbally or in writing, either through intent, or simple incompetence, that they will charge you whatever they want to. Cox Cable now requires a box-rental for just the basic cable and has scrambled all the local high-definition (HD) broadcast stations they are required by law to provide for basic cable. Everyone of the sales associates are lairs and very discourteous. The customer service is overall terrible and the manager Sandy Miller really doesn't care. The pricing for even the basic starter cable is ridiculously so expensive that I finally cut-the-cable and I am done with COX TV forever. I installed an TV antennae in my home attic to pick up broadcast high-definition (HD) television for free over the air waves and I am happier than ever. So very disappointed with the service/lack of service I received at Cox. I would really like to switch my services to another company! I was told they could not help me and I would have to call a number to receive help. The "sales" woman ranted off a number very quickly and when I asked her to write it down for me she gave me a scrap piece of paper and a pen. I asked for the number again and she quickly gave me a 7 digit number, I asked if that was area code 760? She replied in a very terse tone "NO, it's 619." Wow, no body who pays their close to $200 bills on time every month deserves to be spoken to like that. I will be looking for a new Internet provider and just start watching net flicks. I went in to replace a broken DVR. The DVR was exchanged with another of the same design (7 years old). The sales person offered to swap out my modem for a newer faster modem, specifically saying there would be no charge. I asked him to repeat that for clarification, and agreed to get the new modem. Now I see a $6.99 charge on my bill. So, I called up Cox. After a 10 minute hold, they agreed to allow me to send back the modem, and use my old modem again. However, this will involve two more calls with presumably long hold times: 1) To reset the old modem so it works, and 2) To make sure my $6.99 is refunded. A more professional business would have offered to simply waive the modem rental charge, or at least to give me a credit for the rental in advance of the modem return. Just more hassle. Dealing with Cox is consistently a hassle. Perhaps it's time to consider AT&T U-verse. read more

This is actually a review of Cox cable and the way they treat their customers, not this particular store. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Cox cable. They don't care about their customers. After moving here from orange county, I returned all their equipment whole home to the client box because I couldn't find it right away. I told him about it right and they told me I had until November. Turn it. In the interim, they call me on 5 different occasions including wallet was on vacation last week was trying to tell me 3 additional modems that I don't have. Every time they replaced the modem they took the old one. After wasting probably 10 hours of my time, I asked if they could at least come pick up the box so I didn't have to take it to the store. They sent a technician and the technician is not able to take it because he is from San Diego and apparently it's a different company on but somehow they were able to pick up the first 6 pieces of equipment. I asked for a supervisor to help and he was of essentially no help. This is the worst customer service I've ever dealt with and I've been a loyal customer for 11 years, paying for every service that they have been spending over $3500 per year. My next call is to AT&T for fiber Internet and to DirecTV for television service as I never want to see a Cox truck anywhere near my home again. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with in my 61 years on this earth. read more

We had COX for sometime and when the equipment was turned in the equipment was not logged and a bill in the amount of over $500 dollars was received. I see a lot of lousy reviews here. Well, here is a good one. Went in mid-morning to exchange a faulty DVR. Was greeted by Jessica. She was polite, courteous, and efficient, and had me in and out of the store in less than 5 minutes. She didn't push me to upgrade(already have a bundle), except to set up an appointment for a tech to come install an upgraded DVR at no extra monthly cost. I moved from Carlsbad in which I had Time Warner Cable for the past 6 years and was treated very well from the installation to the cancellation of their services due to the move to Oceanside. I have a certain budget that I want to stay under and Anthony at Cox did nothing to help find solutions, bundles, or programs to help me stay under that budget. $80.00 from a happy customer is a whole lot better than $0.00 from a dis-satisfied and frustrated former customer. read more

This place sucks Cox! Seriously, and this review isn't aimed at the Oceanside store in particular, in fact, the employees there are actually pretty nice. The review is based on the choppy service they provide for the astronomical price they charge. Don't fall for their "bundles", as they'll sneak in so many charges, your head will be spinning. The other reviews claiming so are not lies. Unfortunately, for a majority of the San Diego area, Cox is one of the very few (if any others) who offer internet service. They're a monopoly, and extortion artists. Before I moved, I SCHEDULED my service to be terminated 3 weeks from the time of my phone call to coincide with my move date. Right after I hung up, they already shut the internet off. After calling back and being put on hold for 45 minutes, they turned it back on. Ten days later, the service was cut off again, and I was told by a Cox employee that I seen walking around the apartment complex that my connection was "interfering" with other connections and I'd have to call again myself and have a tech come out the following week (AFTER MY MOVE) to fix the issue. Seek service from another ISP if you can. Cox sucks, and I feel bad for anyone who has to rely on them for anything. read more

Cox cable sucks! I originally signed up with 2 channel packages and high speed internet for 150 a month. 1 year later I am paying closer to 180 after eliminating one of the premium channels that I had. My on demand is hit or miss. My WiFi internet goes out regularly. When I called in to discuss this with Oceanside office i pretty much got the run around twice. I called once in May and was told they'd be able to at least reduce my bill at which point I was put on hold and transfered. 20 minutes later I hung up with no adjustments being made. I called again in June and the agent was more concerned with proper cable terminology than with my questions. He kept reapeating that there aren't bundles for tv and internet. I think that there are package deals on the tv but they aren't called bundles. Either way I would never reccommend getting cable if there is anything else available. They're way too over priced and the service is garbage. And from my experience, they aren't any more reliable than dish either. P.S. If I could give them less than 1 star I would. read more

I highly DON'T recommend them. I never do reviews this will be my first ever because of how shitty their service is. I got internet about a week ago, which has not worked since the day we set everything up and we're suppose to be "good to go". Wether you sit next to the modem or upstairs the connection is terrible and videos and newsfeed does not load and if it does it takes a long time. I talked to a representative and she wanted to charge me a minimum of $55 to send someone out and fix THEIR internet problem. She had no other solutions for me other than continuously stating that we had an abnormally slow internet connection. Well thanks for pointing out the obvious and NOT finding a solution for my problem. Oh and to put the cherry on top they already sent me this months bill when I've only had their shitty service for maybe a week. Cox Communications has just shown me the worst experience I have ever had with a business. The amount of incompetency I have experienced in the last 2 days is amazing. Every single department I dealt with has demonstrated the inability to provide decent customer service. I was a customer for a total of 2 days before I called it quits. Day 1 one of two cable boxes was DOA. Cable worked but no internet. In good faith I assumed my modem I bought could be bad so I exchanged my broken cable box and asked for a rental modem just in case. New cable box worked but still no internet. Called several times asking for a tech to come out and check the street connection because the internet was not working but TV was. 4 of 5 customer service reps told me over and over it was my connection in the house. To further insult me they told me that only one room in my house will work with the internet so I should try other ports. That's ridiculous to think that it's possible to segregate a signal to a single room without any additional hardware in line. Explaining to the reps that only 2 rooms in my house were connected and neither room works didn't seem to make sense to them. I took it one step further and connected the modem directly to the feed coming into the house removing any possibility that it could be a port in another room. This again led them to thing that something in my house is the problem and again they insisted a tech needed to come into my house. Fed up with the day one issues I decided to cut my losses and cancel. The retention agent talked me into giving them one more chance even though I explained in detail what actions were taken. She insisted that I let a tech come to my house so I gave it one last chance. Unfortunately the next appointment was 2 days away. I had an appointment from 3 - 5 pm which meant I had to leave work early to let a tech troubleshoot an obvious outside issue. So I get home at 3 pm and at 5:05 pm no tech no call. So I call to figure out what's going on. I'm told I will get a call back from the tech. I get a call back but not from a tech to let me know that it will be 45 min before they can come out. So I took off 2 hours of work for nothing. That was the last straw. I called to cancel. When I go to drop off my gear the same night I am told that the rental modem I picked up was not a rental modem and that it was a purchase. Wow again terrible service. I ask what my bill is and am told $140 for the 2 days I had TV but not internet. He could not explain why it was so much just said that it's "probably" the modem cost and to check back in 24 hours to see what the cost is. I know that I am out $30 dollars for the self-install fee but I'm curious to see tomorrow or the next day what Cox thinks I should be paying for the horrible experience I have received. I will make sure to let every person I know what my experience was like. This is the short version of my issues but enough to say why bother with Cox Communications. read more
