Writing this review is just a way to vent my frustration with Directv because in the end, they don't care anymore. Subscribers are leaving in droves and it must be a living hell to work for them. Their cancellation process most likely involves purposeful 'misclicks' on their call reason list so when you call back to complain about credits not taking place or the subscription being cancelled (in this case, the MLB ticket 2026) the latest customer service agent conveniently says "sorry, I don't see where you cancelled on time". Have been Direct TV customer for many years as my ex choose them. Last summer, while out of town- my elderly mom called for a service tech to deal with yet another DirectTV connectivity issue. They talked her into a new genie and in such another 2 year commitment!!! My mom is 82, name not in bill, and doesn't even live here- yet they took advantage! Fast forward a year, error after error, slow or disconnected connectivity after slow or disconnected Connectivity- Director says everything is ok on their side. I would give this business zero stars if it were an option. Direct tv is by far the worst company I've ever had to deal with in my long life. I've had bad service and it goes in and out and I've called 12 times. I've spoken to people who didn't know what they were talking about and said they would have a supervisor call me back, which none did. Three times a technician was supposed to come out to my house to check the satellite, and they never showed up. Once they said they did come during the time frame, and it's not true, because I was home at that time. Another day they said somebody called and canceled. I have no idea who called because I live here by myself and I never called and canceled. On a day that I was out working, the time frame they were supposed to come was 4 PM to 8 PM. I received a text from someone at 11:00 AM that said "this is Directv technician." I tried calling the number and no one answered. I can't wait to switch to a new company as I'm able to get all of my recordings on to another company's playlist. After being on hold for 58 minutes I was told DIRECTV could do nothing about my not being able to get local channels (to watch football) that in dispute. I called last week and was told they would send me an Over-the-Air antenna, it never arrived. This time when I called they said I could just go buy one on Amazon. My elderly mother-in-law who is on a fixed income was contacted by Direct TV and sold a bundle that included internet along with TV service. They installed the TV service, but neglected to mention that internet was not available in her area, after she was sold internet access. She called and cancelled the service as soon as realizing this, two days after installation. They then hit her with a $500 early termination fee. They were unwilling to waive any portion of this fee, even though she had been contacted by their sales team and sold the internet service. DirectTV has no problem targeting elderly and selling them services that they cannot provide. Awful! read more

One more voice to add to the chorus. I was a customer of DirecTV for a very long time (almost 20 years) but I finally had enough late last year. In February of 2023 I was paying $118 but by February of 2024 my bill was now $208; I had made no changes to my service but the cost had almost doubled. Unfortunately it seems, the only thing DirecTV excels at is raising their prices. When I did cancel the service I was told by the representative that I was paid up through the month (Feb), there would be no further charges and that I could recycle my equipment as they didn't want it back (in other words, I'd paid many times over for it). I noted this in my documents along with the Representative's name and the time & date. Now it's a month later and imagine my delight and surprise when I opened a (wait for it...) bill from DirecTV indicating that I still owed them $199 (plus change) which (get this) included a $6.25 late payment fee. After speaking with a overly polite (condescending) representative for about ten minutes, I determined that I wasn't going to get anything but upset dealing with them, I told them what I thought of DirecTV and their staff, hung up, paid them and started writing this review as a catharsis. Originally, instead of recycling, I was going to hold to the equipment just in case I changed my mind about the service but since this most recent dealing with them it would be a cold day in hell that I would ever deal with AT&T / DirecTV again. Oh, in case you're interested, the money that I used to pay to DirecTV now buys us every streaming service that we could possibly want for far less than half the price. Plus for less than $100, I've bought and installed a nice, unobtrusive omni-directional HDTV antenna which receives all the local OTA channels at no additional cost. If I could give less than one star I would. What an unethical company. They don't care if they are cheating customers or are working their customers, just so they can squeeze as much money out as they can. By the way, they are 70% owned by AT&T, so are an "independent" company. That's when you want to cancel service, not to sign up. Then they are more than willing to "bundle" in. We got the service (only service available at the apartment complex we rented at which is no doubt why AT&T/DirectTV has any customers). When we moved I cancelled AT&T and since I order the services together assumed that would be all inclusive. But, no they continued to charge my credit card. When I caught it they were unwilling to refund the months charged saying I agreed to the service. Yes, I did. But as I signed up for all of it at once I assumed (shame on me) that ALL services would be cancelled. ​​I also assumes that when I called to cancel once I caught the unauthorized charges that it would be indeed cancelled. But as I have no email to prove it, it's my fault. I returned all equipment, bit will not be charged $60+ because I "bought" the equipment. Again, what an unethical company. I would vote lower than 1 star if I could. Be careful about scams from Frontier Communication where they include a contract from DIRECTV that has a cancelation time policy that ends before the Frontier installation. So when Frontier botches the installation then you're stuck with having to pay cancellation fees from DIRECTV in the neighborhood of $500. It's an amazing scam and not sure how they can get away with it. You've been warned. Stay away from Frontier and DIRECTV; they are both complete garbage! Why Does DirecTV hate its customers? Genuinely, I'd like to know. I've been fed lie after lie after lie from department after department to get a simple task completed, which is to change billing responsibility from one person to another. Not a SINGLE person was able to do it UNTIL magically, the "Loyalty"/Retention guy heard the word "cancel", then, magically "Oh sir I can do that over the phone. TOO LATE. This came after literal years of calling directv phone lines and getting no help on the topic, and finally having to belly-up to a AT&T store table and basically refuse to leave until either AT&T store or someone on the phone with DTV actually fixed the problem. This has been customer-hostile at best, and a complete mockery of "customer service" from the help phone number, to "loyalty/retention" to the "Social Media" team. We signed up for Direct stream in March. Since then we have spent many hours with their tech support, and their representative, Hector. We were promised a less expensive bill, a free new I phone and a 100 dollar credit card. None of this was true. We have had nothing but trouble, losing the ability to watch TV many times since March. They get you to sign up through AT&T with your phone at a low cost. After a short period of time your monthly payment goes up significantly. The quality of viewing programs is poor, usually goes out of service with wind and storms. They charge you service and part fees when their equipment doesn't work. Customer service is horrible! Last week my beloved Aunt passed away. Today my father, who has the login credentials for her account tried to disconnect it via their site. The site failed. Spent 30 minutes trying to get to a live person. She said you have to be an authorized user and insisted until he was authorized they wouldn't disconnect the account. All she had to do was read the notes from the inception of the account to see my Dad was the only one who called, made orders, changes and service requests, and again had the login credentials for their site. VP's of Customer Service, COO's, and Chief Customer officers need to get a refund for their ivy league educations and hire someone who has come up through the trenches. I had been in a relationship with DirectTV for more than a decade but alas, all good things and not-so-good things must come to an end. The honeymoon phase ended a few years ago but the connection was still there until a year and a half ago. The level of satellite service was sporadic and I could not really enjoy the service due to blackouts, pauses, pixelation, and just really bad reception. During this time, I called the support system 12 times and only managed to rate a technician twice. The first tech that finally appeared (after call number 7) hung around for about 25 minutes, ran through the signal analyzer on the television, declared that my service was back online, and exited the building like Elvis Presley. Needless to say, the system was still operating at a severely reduced capacity and I found it difficult and frustrating to try and watch television. So I went back to calling DirectTV customer service in hopes of resolving the issue that was causing me to question my relationship with my partner of 10-plus years. After phone call number 12, I finally got a support agent that promised to send out a technician in 2 days. Needless to say, I wasn't going to hold my breath because if I did, I would be able to write this review. To my surprise and to the surprise of my bookie in Las Vegas, the technician showed up as promised within the obligatory 4-hour window on the designated day. The tech's name was Ricardo and I have to admit, this young man was the epitome of professional and technical competence. He came to the door and introduced himself, put on his shoe booties, and asked if he could enter. From there it just got better as he took the time to hear what my issues were, observed the problem for himself on the television, and then began to methodically assess each piece of equipment in the DirectTV link. He was very thorough in his approach and I really appreciated his attention to detail. It was a display of customer service that I wish most people could emulate and was truly a pleasure to have him in my house. To cut to the chase, Ricardo found the issues and corrected every issue until he came to the co-ax connector and cabling. The technician that had done the original install made a mess of the wiring in the attic and there was no way to repair it unless my furnace was removed to allow a technician access to the area. On the original install, the tech had simply just pushed my furnace over and I hadn't realized it until I had the furnace tuned up. (Go White Glove Guys!) The fix for all of this was to upgrade my component which should have been an easy fix but it wasn't. What I came to realize about DirectTV was that their customer support doesn't even support their technicians. Ricardo spent more than 5 hours in my house on this day, trying to get some support from his support, and was left hanging out to dry. Even talking to his supervisor and his supervisor's supervisor yielded negative results. It got so bad that the technicians were being berated by their own support for calling them for SUPPORT!!! How can they assist the customer when they can't get support for themselves? It was the most unprofessional encounter that I have ever witnessed and believe me, I have seen quite a bit having served in the Marine Corps for 24 years and worked for the Fed Government for 14 years. So after having three days of techs in my house and talking to several people in the DirectTV upper management chain, I decided that the relationship was over and DirectTV can have everything back as part of the divorce settlement. There is more I can say but decided that this was enough. My appreciation to Ricardo, Tommy, and German once more but will never and I do mean never, go back to DirectTV ever again. read more

Called Direct TV to find out why my credit card was being charged almost three times the rate I agreed to, after being on hold for over an hour, closer to an hour and half, I decided to cancel my service. I was charged for an extra month of service after I canceled, and told it would be refunded by gift card. Why not put back on the credit card they charged? When I received the gift card two months latter it was for 18.40 when they charged it for 92.00. Term and Conditions Fraud by AT&T, had to sue them and Won. Hint: in any dispute they will waive their Terms and Conditions at you and essentially say they have the right to do whatever they like and you have no recourse in the courts because when you subscribed to service you agreed to their Terms and Conditions and a Mediation Arbitration scheme that makes any dispute no matter how small not worth the time and cost of pursuing. Enter me with a dispute and the argument that their Terms and Conditions are invalid because they are UNCONSCIONALBLE under at least CA law (See CA CIVIL CODE 1668). Direct TV as a service by satellite is not too bad. The bad came when AT&T purchased them and then used their own service personnel. I was enticed by a sweet person representing Direct TV at my local Costco and signed up. I maintained both services until which time I could decide if I like the service and also download important content from the DVR before canceling the AT&T Uverse service. AT&T decided Unilaterally to disconnect my Uverse thereby freezing the content on the DVR from the ability to view or retrieve the content. You could see the titles, but they made the system so that if service was ever shut down the content would never be viewable again. Nice of them right? They pushed me all the way to trial and they again waived their Terms and Conditions to the Judge. What say you? The Judge asked me. I say their Terms and Conditions are void at inception because not only were they not present when the service was activated they keep modifying them every 6-months to adjust to their most recent tactics of screwing their customers by over charging them, shutting down their service when they have paid their bill and in violation of the VIDEO SERVICE ACT of CA which states clearly that service providers must give customers 30-day written notice before cancelation.
