I'm giving them a 3 star due to to go orders being wrong a lot but the food has been excellent lately. Think they have a new manager lately and it seems to be helping. Visiting from out of town and wanted something close to comfort food and home cooked meal. Ventured out to pay the Cotton Patch Cafe a visit for dinner. First off i was a little concerned when I walked in and the place was almost empty. But my party and I were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Our server Robert immediately introduced himself and promptly took our drink order and appetizer order. For appetizer we started with the chips w/ queso & salsa. The queso had a very unique flavor that I thoroughly enjoyed. Not sure what kind of cheese was used for the queso but it was great. The salsa was "run of the mill" but still good. Prior to my entree (get to that in a few) I started with a potato soup. The cup of soup was very hearty with nice chunks of potato w/ a perfect amount of cheese to compliment the soup. Highly recommended. I didn't take much time to go over the menu so I opted for the NY strip and grilled shrimp w/ loaded back potato. The steak could not have been a better piece of meat and cooked any better. I asked for medium to medium well and that is exactly what I received. It's so appreciated when I ask for my steak to be cooked in a specific manner and it is delivered that way. THANK...YOU! The chicken fried chicken was breaded just right and was flavorful and juicy. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal and two days later are still talking about how much we enjoyed our visit. Good job Cotton Patch Cafe. We thank you and keep up the good work. Had a great lunch at Cotton patch today. Our server Joe was attentive and personable. The manager chatted with us and was friendly! The restaurant was packed with people but the service was good! This was one of my favorite places to eat in Tyler, unfortunately the last two times myself and my family went to eat there, it was very disappointing. The food was over cook and had two much salt in it, it was brought out to us cold, and the service was just plane terrible, slow, not checking on the table, couldn't remember to bring thing out, and not friendly at all, almost rude at times. And my mother had said the same thing, and that was around January, I don't know what is going on with this place, but I always take 4 to 5 people when I go eat, and being a veteran we ate there all the time, and that's because they have always been great to vets, and I love the Chicken Fried Steak, if I'm spending 100$ or more on a meal, I expect that meal and the service to be very good. The food was fresh and top notch just like the service used to be, I don't know, but the people working there now are not the professional, polite people we're use to , and the food was not the great quality food we always received when eating at Cotton Patch. Wow! Another fail!! Ordered online from menu, ordered 2 orders fried mushrooms with 2 orders chicken fried brisket. They have our phone & cc#. They WAITED until we were here to pickup THEN said they haven't had those mushrooms for YEARS and that order would be ANOTHER 45 minutes to be ready as they are behind. Took a gamble on another chain type eatery and was quite surprised. Started off with some tasty cheese sticks that had a light crispy batter. My wife enjoyed the chicken n dumpling with mac n cheese and fried okra. The chicken had great flavor as well as the dumpling. I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and fried okra. The meat was super tender and came with pieces of baked potato in the gravy. We were both pleased with our meals. Service was quick and our server never forgot about us! First time here and we came at lunchtime. They weren't packed but busy. My main complaint is that lunch service was so slow. Took forever to get our drinks. Once we ordered our food it took forever. I've ordered to-go several times from this location since being on maternity leave and every single time my order has been incorrect. The last time I ordered (and it was incorrect, per usual), I finally called (I normally just let it go and eat the incorrect meal) and stated I'd received my order missing several items. The lady who first answered seemed to sound extremely bothered and said, "just come back and I'll bring your missing items." I come back (with a 1-week old in the car), call and inform her I'm outside in the to-go pick up area. The lady quickly responds, "ok, I'll be there soon." Almost 30 minutes pass and I eventually have to go in (like other to-go people had been doing) and get my things. When inside, the young lady has a slight attitude (like I'm inconveniencing her) but I choose to just think it'd been a rough day for her. What appeared to be the manager asked her a question and she seemed to ignore him, resulting in him becoming more aggressive in his approach. In summary, I was not offered any speck of an apology (from neither the upset waitress or the manager--who didn't even acknowledge me), just poor service and old/cold food. read more

We currently live pretty close by, and if I am in the mood for some Southern Comfort food, Cotton Patch usually pops up on my list. The service is generally polite, with a mistake in ordering here or there. The food hits the spot when you are looking for a Chicken Fried Steak. Pricing is reasonable for a large entree that comes with two sides you are in the $10-$15 range. Depending on what you order, you will likely have something to take home. When you start the meal, they will brings rolls with whipped butter. They come out warm, so it is a nice beginning to the meal. I am not saying I would run here on a weekly basis, but then again, this is the type of food I should be eating in moderation anyways. Be on the lookout for their daily specials, they are a good way to save a few bucks on something you might have wanted to eat anyways. read more

Food was great, got the Cajun duo (its more like a trio though) it was recommended by my wonderful waitress, Annelise the other day. She got us refills in a timely manner, offered us appetizers (we got the fried pickles) and dessert (although turned it down) and offered any help and checked on us even as we sat there a while after paying out and eating, as I caught up with my granddaughter. She was very patient as it took us a while to figure out to eat and talked with us and helped us come to decisions and gave recommendations (as said above). My granddaughter really enjoyed their chicken fried chicken, it was a very large portion and also their fried pickles. The cooks seem to love their jobs, and the servers were all very welcoming. Only complaint was it was a little cold in the booth we were in, but i think it was cause of the airvent above us. Definitely left a great impression as we hadn't been in a while but we are both going to come back for sure! read more

I left tip prior to my order being complete . If you leave a tip with these people prior to receiving your order it's almost like a prerequisite that your service will be spotty and what ever you got won't be worth a damn !!!! This is just what they do , this is the first time I've ever complained about them , and they do it every time . If you want your meal to come out right and want good customer service wait until you review your order first !!!! I receive my order tightly knotted up without verbal confirmation of what I ordered , I knew something was wrong . Now Everything was correct except my appetizers. I ordered chips and queso. The queso came in a small container halfway field and it look like giblet gravy. I called back in there to say I think they gave me something different than queso and Christy Informed me that it was indeed the the Queso . She stated yeah that's just how it looks sorry but in a sorry not sorry kind of way. Didn't offer anything else or to even take it back and remove from my ticket . Our order came out with three errors, so I wasn't very impressed, but the catfish really was good, and I liked the sweet potato fry option. It was also odd that they tried to seat us near the to-go entrance -- a drafty seat on a colder night -- while the restaurant was more than half-empty. I have loved this restaurant so much...until yesterday! I had out of town family visiting me for my birthday. Of course this restaurant was where I wanted to take them! OMG...so embarrassed I brought them here!!!! We ordered the chicken and dumplings lunch special. They were nothing like I have had before...the broth was thin and unflavorful, the chicken tasted like it came out of a can and the dumplings were very thick and small. The fried green tomato appetizer that I have always loved were not piping hot like they usually were. The rolls were not warm and soft either. My dad left half of his food on his plate which he never does. The server did keep our drinks filled which was nice. We also waited a very long time for our food. It would have been nice if server had told us why our wait was so long but we never saw her. I will not bring out of town guests here again. I absolutely love Cotton Patch and have eaten at several in the Dallas area. In the last few months, I moved to Tyler, so I was thrilled to try out the local CP. When I went the other day, the food was excellent, the waiter was magnificent but an uninvited bug (albeit small but big enough to cause alarm) began to crawl on my table. I managed to not scream but it was a bit difficult since I've never seen a bug crawling on my dinner table. I happened to have a flyer with me and was able to smash it. I stopped eating, of course and quietly told my waiter. The manager came over and apologized. I handed him the proof. I can't imagine ever going back. Sorry CP Tyler. A huge thumb down from me. Advice: Clean and re-clean the restaurant! Bugs are a huge no no and can ruin a business!! Keep the waiter with the English accent. Get rid of the bugs! I order online at 11:15am to pick up at 5pm. I went to the location around 4:45pm. I wanted until 6pm and never received my food. They were making food and just sitting it on a table for other pick up order but WOULD NOT MAKE MY FOOD AND I WAS STANDING THERE TELLING ME THEY DONT KNOW WHERE MY ORDER WAS. This place is alright the second time around. The first time was for an Avon meeting (reserved and very fast serving). This time we waited for about 20 minutes before being seated. The prices don't justify the actual entrees, but the salads are amazing. You get a very good portion. I had the strawberry pecan salad I believe it was called. The bathroom was really cold!! Had a family reunion in town and the host/guest of honor chose Cotton Patch for the big family dinner on Saturday night (27 people). They did a great job setting up tables to accommodate our group to the side of the restaurant where we had some privacy for our own party. Large menu of typical 'comfort food' items, and people ordered from all parts of it. I ordered a blackened tilapia/shrimp meal (about the only cajun-style offering) and it was quite good; others in the party ordered fried chicken or shrimp, various salads, even a couple of steaks. While I don't think anybody was WOWED I think everyone was well satisfied. I do believe our group was large enough to overwhelm them on the back end (billing) though.... while the actual food/drink orders were on target they must have taken close to half an hour sorting out the checks when we were ready to leave. As many in our party were driving home to Dallas or Houston after dinner, this delay became more than slightly annoying. If checks had been prompt this would have been a solid 4-star but I can only give it 3. Smaller groups would likely be fine. read more

I got an email about my anniversary of being apart of their eclub. I was already wondering what I was going to eat for lunch and it was past lunch hour. I beelined over there. I had to wait longer then usual to be acknowledged at the to-go counter, but they were busy. The manager seemed annoyed that I had a coupon, but I would have been a dummy to not get a free meal.
