This is one of those reviews that I hate writing, ugh! Cornerstone is located what used to be Po Folks, I really miss that place! We walked in on a rainy Sunday morn. Although the place was packed, we lucked out when two patrons left and found us a seat at the counter. As more and more people started trickling in, our friendly server told us that they never get this crowded. Since there's only two chairs to sit on in the wait area, most of the people waited outside. After scanning the menu, we chose the country Benedict and ham and eggs. Both come with their home fries. I admit, the prices are cheap. I think both our dishes were under eight bucks. Our server was attentive, refilling our coffee and water. She told us that they never get that crowded so we figured that was the reason for the LONG wait we had for our food to arrive. Our food was terrible! The hash brown/home fry was like a slop of burnt potato, the inside was similar to a mash potato. The country Bennie had a sausage patty which we both didn't like the taste of. Scrambled eggs were runny in some parts. The ham was also unappetizing. It definitely must have been an off day, just look at how unappealing my pics are! With the unexpected rush of customers, I'm guessing the attention to quality was ignored. We ate less than half our food and agreed it was probably the worst breakfast we've ever had. If you like delicious, cheap breakfast food then this is your place. This little dive in Citrus Heights is right off of Greenback and San Juan. Parking is ample behind the building. Like any other good dive, this place has a loyal fanbase. Which translates to get yourself here early or prepare to wait. But it's worth it. Weekly specials (all with mountains of food for under $10) and served by friendly, cheerful waitresses who will never let your coffee cups dwindle. Omelets are a big hit, but the potatoes are what keep me coming back. Hey, I'm Irish. I have mad respect for people who can make potatoes crispy without overcooking them. My family was in from out of town and my father-in-law offered to pick up breakfast. I used to eat at the midtown location, so we decided to try this one. Their bacon is fantastic as the other reviews have said. It's thick and crispy, the way bacon should be. They also have really thick, fluffy pancakes, and the potatoes were good, too. I'm not sure what the potatoes are called on the menu, since I only ate the leftover potatoes (they weren't part of my order). I ordered the corn beef hash. The hash had a decent crisp to it and good flavor. Probably the best corned beef hash I've tried. This is only the third time I've ordered corned beef hash, and probably the one that I liked the best. Sometimes you have to try something new a few times to really see if you like it. If I come here in the future, I'll probably stick to the more basic stuff, like the bacon, potatoes and pancakes, but if you like corned beef hash you'll probably love it here. read more

Hardly strictly Covid review - Alright kids. Short and sweet here. This is a diner with top notch diner food. Eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, all that stuff you want and expect. They do it all well. They did before and they'll do it well during the... you know... virus. I have not "dined-in" since the post lock down era, but I know they have set up outside tents to accommodate the suckfest. It looks fun and I will soon just do it. Eggs benedict is not right if there's no hollandaise sauce. I called door dash and they requested to the restaurant to please send again because my order was literally incomplete. Cornerstone is just a mere stone on the street. It was super busy on this Saturday morning. Plenty of parking all around the building. Walk in and take a seat when it is cleaned up! Staff was pretty cool for being as busy as it was. Food: they have a simple menu front page breakfast back page lunch stuff. But they let you do some mix or add ons and make your own. Prices are all there which ever way you choose to order. We went with the breakfast. They have a few plate with corned beef hash, but when asked it was not homemade. :( We still went with the corned beef hash scramble, come with mushrooms, tomato, corned beef hash and cheese. And side of potato and choice of bread. Then went with veggie omelette, spinach, mushrooms, tomato and onions and choice of cheese, i took the swiss and opt for the biscuit. Biscuit was cut in half and grilled and came with honey. For our kids we got them the 4 pc pancakes. They were big and pretty good. The potato are just mashed and grilled. Didn't notice anything seasonings or peppers or onions in it. Just potato. So ketchup i heavily loaded up with. (I do it anyways) The prices are cheap here and the food is just basic. No frills but still pretty good. The food was still good but no wow factor. Cheap eats, if we happened to be near and just wanted something to fill the void and didn't want to spend much this is a place to go. Omelettes were about $7 average with potato and bread. The pancakes for 4 pc was $5.25, coffee was $1.75 with endless refills. They also have some artwork around the inside for sale. Trippy cause a few we saw were going for $3500. read more

My boyfriend and I love Cornerstone. They make the best breakfast burritos. It's my go to breakfast place. We eat there so much that Libby asks me, " do you want your usual?" Pros: great quality food, they use real eggs instead of premixed forever eggs, and the price is great for the quality. Cons: Busy - when we came in, we had to wait for awhile to be noticed. You're supposed to pick a table and seat yourself, but after waiting for a bit, all of us decided to make it obvious that we were looking for a waiter. We were glad we did because they didn't notice us before then. The service was decent, but not above any expectations. The food was great quality though, which made up for the downsides. The overall decor was nice. On another note, they use styrofoam to-go boxes, which are horrible for the environment. If I go again, I'll bring my own containers because the servings are large and I'll expect leftovers. read more

I went to this restaurant this morning to have breakfast. When I walked in there was a sign that stated wait to be seated. So I waited for about ten minutes before I was even acknowledged, even though multiple employees passed me and even looked right at me. After waiting another ten minutes I heard my name called out side. So I stood up to answer and then Debbie ( that's what she said her name was ) compared my name with a portable restroom to another employee not realizing I was directly behind them. Been here one time, so this review might be premature; Small, cramped pace with kind of an icky/dirty feeling. The staff wasn't overly friendly, as if they weren't even happy to be working there. A bit crowded. Not sure they had the a/c on?? Sitting there my breakfast date and I both started to develop the "sheen" that sweat precludes. I ordered chicken fried steak and was not prompted to any of the choices the menu said I was to decide between. So I proceeded with the biscuit and a side of gravy and the two eggs over easy. The chicken fried steak wasn't bad, but would have been better had the gravy been good. It was bland. The biscuit was hard and maybe was sitting out for a bit? The eggs were a bit runnier then I expected, but edible. They did stay on top of my coffee, though! I don' think it ever was less than 3/4 full! Kudos on that! And hot too!! read more

So this used to be my favorite place for breakfast until my last visit. I always got the chicken fried steak and eggs and loved it. On my last visit, the chicken fried steak was extremely hard and tough. Never had experienced it like that before. I ate the eggs and some potatoes and pushed the plate away to the other side of the table with it uneaten on it. No one ever came by to ask if there was an issue and the only time my waitress came back was to drop the check quickly and keep going. My mouth was full at the time so I couldn't speak. No huge deal everything else was good. I work in the industry so I understand that sometimes things happen. When I went to pay ( I didn't ask for anything off the bill I know small businesses run tight margins and it had never happened before) I told the woman who took my check that the chicken fried steak was rock hard and dried out but everything else was really good She then proceeded to tell me how I should have told them and had a new one made ( hard to do when no one checks on you or bothers to ask about the uneaten item sitting on the table for 20 plus minutes) how she didn't understand they had the same cooks and just made excuse after excuse as to why it was my fault I got a bad meal and all the things I should have done differently. WOW. I was still paying for the whole meal, had left a tip over 20% on the table despite the poor service, and was made to feel like a complete idiot for complaining about food I didn't eat that was no where near the usual quality I always had on previous visits. Needless to say I can spend my money in other places that are at least polite. I now breakfast at other places and don't plan on returning any time soon. A simple "I'm sorry about that" would have been fine. And as usual the atmosphere was old school diner. read more

This place is a little run down on the outside and on the inside as well but I think that is part of its charm. You walk in and as the little sign says, find a clean table and someone is quick to go and ask if you'd like coffee. Little tables scattered everywhere, sweet ladies working the place and a breakfast that looks and tastes homemade. The coffee tastes a little funky so I have to remember to skip that next time. Don't be put off by the dilapidated outside. I guess the owners would rather pass on savings to their customers rather than spend money renovating the place. Inside, you are greeted with a handwritten sign that says: "Sit at a clean table." Yes, you can come here for a big breakfast, but I was impressed by the coffee! At $1.65 for bottomless refills (same as their soft drinks), they just switched to Peerless brand coffee. Good stuff! Beats Denny's any day. It comes hot and plentiful. I just missed their early bird special (breakfast is $2.95 before 8:30 am), but had a coupon for a free b'fast if you order one with two drinks. I had the two eggs deal. I love mine poached and here they do them right. You also get a choice of toast, English muffin or biscuit and the homefries. Spouse got the two eggs plus bacon. He's an Aussie and bacon here just plain ol' sucks compared to Australian bacon. The waitress offered "extra crispy" as an option which we tried. It was kind of like a blend between bacon + rice cracker. Very crunchy, kind of a uniform brown color. Never again. With coupon, for two people it came to $15 with tax & tip. I don't know if it is a good bargain as I rarely go out for breakfast these days, but it seemed like a solid breakfast for the price. Went in for a quick breakfast before starting my Saturday errand day and wasn't disappointed. I was served quickly even though I adjusted my menu option. 'Emergency' coffee was brought to me immediately! My Eggs Benedict was generously covered with Hollandaise sauce and the eggs were poached perfectly, still running yolk! The Cornerstone Cafe is a SHIT HOLE because the food terrible, the interior dinning area and the bathrooms are filthy. I am sure the Cornerstone never reports their total income to the IRS and California tax authorities because they refuse to give me a receipt when paid in cash. I am surprised we did not have any serious stomach problems or bacteria from our breakfast because the food was greasy, table tops, the flatware, dishes, and glasses were tired and dirty.
