The owner always greets me and has made exceptions for me when I wanted a lunch item during breakfast time. I have been to many restaurants over the years. The Cornerstone Cafe is the only restaurant I wish I did not walk into for a late breakfast on a Sunday in Citrus Heights, CA. The Cornerstone Cafe is a SHIT HOLE because the food terrible, the interior dinning area and the bathrooms are filthy. I am sure the Cornerstone never reports their total income to the IRS and California tax authorities because they refuse to give me a receipt when paid in cash. I am surprised we did not have any serious stomach problems or bacteria from our breakfast because the food was greasy, table tops, the flatware, dishes, and glasses were tired and dirty. What a nice little breakfast spot. I woke up craving pancakes and dragged my boyfriend here. We were seated right away with no wait which was surprising since it was close to 11am. My boyfriend and I both ordered a stack of pancakes (he got 4 and I got 3) with a side of sausage. After only a short wait (and the place was packed), we were brought our meals. Our waitress brought us each or own jug of maple syrup. The pancakes were DELICIOUS. Big, thick, and fluffy with a nice buttery flavor. The maple syrup had a great taste, not too sugary. We were each served 4 sausage links which were moist and full of flavor. I'm usually picky about my sausage and these were spot on. I usually try and hit up breakfast spots that aren't chain restaurants, and I'm glad that I found this place. I'll definitely be back again, the pancakes are to die for! read more

I've been coming here off-and-on for many years, I'm just new to the Yelp thing, so I don't have any pictures to show off at the moment. Everything is so good, but I highly recommend the home fries. Most of their breakfasts and omelettes are served on a platter and the home fries take up half of it, easily. Crispy on the outside and tender inside. Throw some Tabasco sauce on it (and maybe a little ketchup if you're inclined) and you have a meal in itself, right there, before we even discuss the eggs-and-meat or the omelette. They've also had the same people working, so they all know their stuff, as well. Cornerstone is a true greasy spoon, but you won't regret it for a second. Wife had the Joe's scramble, which consisted of 4 eggs, spinach, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and ground beef with a side of home fries, she said it was super delicious! I had the biscuit gravy combo, which had two thick pieces of bacon, two sausages, and ordered delicious steak cut fries with ranch on the side that me and the wife shared. All food was delicious. The decor seemed outdated but otherwise clean. Never got to visit the restrooms, but our waitress was super cool and very attentive. I give this place a good solid 4 stars for a great breakfast at am affordable price! Yummers! Definitely will revisit! read more

The food portions are large. They provide plenty of food for the price. The service was outstanding. They were very attentive and the atmosphere was very hometown-like and there were obvious regulars who exchanged conversation with the waitresses as if they were good friends. The experience was pleasant. I ordered the eggs Benedict and my only comment is that there was a lot of hollandaise sauce. My husband and I go here for breakfast a lot. It's a real American 'greasy spoon'. My husband loves it, I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, the place is run down, it needs a good cleaning and the overall hygiene could be a whole lot better. I see tables wiped with dirty rags and coffee cups set upside down on them. I never drink coffee there for that reason. I've seen staff handle money, dirty plates, wipe tables with aforementioned rags and then grab plates of food all without washing their hands. I've only had breakfast there, and It's mostly good, except their pancakes and waffles. I'm pretty sure they use the same batter for both and it's most likely a cheap mix. Their french toast is really terrible. It's just cheap thin white bread. I tried it once and it was stone cold and covered in powdered sugar. It tasted like a fried egg with sugar on it. On the other hand, most of the staff is super friendly and the service is generally good. The house potatoes are one of the things that keeps me going there. I highly recommend them. They also have actual crispy meaty cooked bacon, not like other diners that try to pass off that greasy limp stuff as bacon. The portions are good, the eggs are nice and the fruit is fresh, not from a can. Bottom line, if I want waffles or pancakes I definitely go elsewhere. I was in Citrus Heights one morning recently and found the Cornerstone Cafe on Yelp. Very pleased with having chosen to have breakfast there. The service was courteous and quick - From order taking to multiple refills of coffee. They were attentive, and checked in on occasion. I needed to order an additional biscuit to go with the generous amount of sausage gravy they had served, and it was delivered in short order. I had the breakfast special - 2 eggs (over medium), 2 slices of bacon, and 2 biscuits with sausage gravy (+1 more biscuit) - and coffee. Would definitely return to this cozy diner. This place is pretty small and gets packed really fast. Luckily there were a few tables available, but the sign says to sit at a "clean" table, which is understandable. My sister and (future) bro-in-law go in all the time, saying the prices are good and the food is plentiful. So, today, we went..... I wasn't super hungry, so I got a belgian waffle, two eggs, and a soda. The waffle was a good diner waffle, and my two eggs over medium were cooked perfectly. All of this was filling, cooked well, and only about 9 dollars and some cents. My sister got bacon and eggs, a good hearty portion and her scrambled eggs looked delicious, and my bro-in-law enjoyed his omelette. Our server kicked ass, too. Would I say this is an outstanding restaurant? Meh. If someone from out of town wanted a quick, filling, and TASTY breakfast, would I recommend this place? Definitely. There were a lot of people in there on a Saturday morning so seating was a little crowded and close, but I would return. I sat down and within 3 mins was asked if I wanted coffee. Perfect I definitely need something to wake me up and I gladly accepted. The waitress was attentive and personable. I ordered a custom omelet with spinach tomato mozzarella ham avocado and Swiss cheese on top. It was delicious. I'm not a big breakfast eater so I couldn't finish it. I had been to The Cornerstone several times in past years, but hadn't been back in quite some time until a couple months ago. My wife and I were looking for a morning place with no waiting, and when I called, they said there was no wait. When we arrived that was still the case - in fact, it was seat yourself. We picked a table in the back corner, far away from others so our toddler wouldn't disturb other people. The service was fast, and our waitress brought coffee out shortly after we sat down and ordered drinks. The time between our ordering and the food arriving was barely enough for our artist to discover the canvas that was our table. (Yes, they brought out a whole bucket of crayons and a place mat). Our order was accurate, and the food was all delicious. The waffles are really good. The prices are incredible, and the specials really were a good deal. They have specials different days and an early bird breakfast that is insanely cheap. In the end, we'll definitely be returning to The Cornerstone regularly. read more
