Corner Tavern is exactly what it says -- a casual neighborhood bar with great food. It's located in a basement level of a brownstone in a neighborhood near Boston University. The site is cozy but not cramped. We visited on a high-demand night, but were able to be seated reasonably fast at one of the few tables. (This is primarily a bar, so focus is more on the bar and wall counter seating.) We were starved, and despite the high demand we were served quickly. For bar food, the fare was great! One in our party had a turkey sandwich that was like a panini, and another had a burger. Both of these entrees came with a side of seasoned new potatoes. Yum! I settled for standard soft pretzels, which were also delicious. Whether you're wanting drinks with friends, or a bite to eat, Corner Tavern is the way to go! read more

No frills, fun neighborhood bar. Can get a bit rowdy, but not in a douchey/bro-ey way. I only had drinks, and they didn't know what a Sazerac was...but I'm a snob, I admit it. A great go-to casual spot in Back Bay! read more

Great neighborhood spot. I've stopped here for some beers and also had the pretzel -very large and tasty. The sauce that it comes with is great as well. Fun place for a larger group or if you wanted to watch a sports game. It is open pretty late compared to other spots in the neighborhood. read more

I guess this place is more known for its food rather than drinks b/c the selection was nothing outta the ordinary and service had a rough start - it was a little annoying sitting down at a table and then being asked to move to the bar if we weren't planning to order food...which we did... The white bean dip with country white bread we shared was pretty good, not nearly as good as some others have noted though. I also couldn't help but chuckle when the server provided me with my beer and no glass until I requested it. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere even on a Friday night, but nothing really stood out and I'm up against the wall as to whether to come back or not to try more of the food. We'll see... read more

Pros: Good TVs!! Solid beer selection. Service. Location. Comfortable. Cheap. Good TVs!! Cons: um...well I guess it's not closer to where I live... People make me laugh sometimes. Reading some of the reviews here I have to wonder just what exactly people are thinking when they set their expectations for a sports bar. C'mon guys, it's a bar!! What are the requirements for a bar?? Let us review... 1. Good TVs!! It is amazing at how many bars get this so damn wrong you have to slap yourself for stepping in them. Bars = SPORTS. The end. Moving on... 2. Good beer selection that is not sponsored by Budweiser. Insert odd but diverse selection of microbrews as well. 3. Reasonable quality of food. Reasonable does not = 4 star. It instead means solid value for happy hour. I will also accept "tastes amazing after four pints of beer." 4. Good crowd. Obnoxious bar crowds are like pasta stains on your favorite shirt. They can absolutely ruin it and be very difficult to get rid of. Well, Corner Tavern scores well on all these points. It's small enough to create a cool atmosphere with good sightlines to all the TVs from pretty much everywhere... but is big enough to bring groups of 4 comfortably. Prices are reasonable, beer selection is above-average, and the service has always, always been attentive and solid (I even admitted to not being a Red Sox Fan...seriously.) The menu has always come through for me whether it is pasta, sandwiches, or wings...but as always, your experience may vary. Most importantly, if all you want to do is drink a beer, actually WATCH the game, and want to be left the hell alone...this place will do just fine. Drawbacks? Well, the beer selection is above-average but isn't earth shattering. Their drink specials can also be a bit draconian in their cut-off times. But there are no deal-breakers here. read more

Great for a bite to eat after a Red Sox game. Just far enough away so it's not crowded afterwards but within walking distance. Go on a nice summer night and grab yourself a table outside. It's been about a month, but still remember the meatballs were delicious! read more

Good pub grub, decentish selection of beers, busy at the weekend. They're doing $5 lunch specials again. It's a selection of their sandwich for $5, each comes with roasted spuds or salad. I think this is one of the best bargains for lunch in the area (they just need to be a bit faster getting it out of the kitchen as I need to get back to work). Who would have though that the Last Drop would morph into a place without that awful smell and great pub grub. I've eaten here numerous times and for the price the food is great and the service is (usually) decent and the drinks are good (strong and not too expensive). They also have a reasonable beer selection. I do think they've done a great job with the food, especially with the wee tiny kitchen they have. If they have the scallops on the menu get them, they're good, done right, and in a simple NE style. If you here late on a weekend night you probably won't get a table to sit and eat, but there's space where you might be able to stand and eat. For a place in the 'hood here you can chill during the week and enjoy a reasonably priced meal and a few beers I'd recommend it. However, I haven't been here on a Friday or Saturday night where the vibe, crown, and ambiance is probably a lot different than the rest of the week. read more

Corner Tavern in Back Bay is quite literally the best place on earth. The staff is genuine, the regulars are the salt of the earth, and the bartenders are delightful. read more

Atmosphere was good great for a late 20s to early 30s crowd. Food took a little bit long to get to us but it was really good. Drinks were slightly more expensive than usual Boston bar prices. read more

I want to like this place but the staff (particularly the bartender with a man bun) are extremely rude. I

The food here is great. I never expected to find food at a pub that would be so much better than many of the restaurants in the area. Cozy little pub in the basement floor of a building. They have some food items that are not just the basic food for people who are drunk. I had their BBQ Brisket Reuben which was very moist and tender. Price was reasonable too. The service was great, very friendly and quick. It is a very chill enviroment and was not rowdy all the times that i went read more

Used to be a nice place but wow now it totally sucks. Rarely a good time, unfriendly staff, shit food, overpriced drinks

Very cool spot. Touch tunes, good bar / beer selection, great waitstaff and the food is phenomenal. Get the wings, the meatballs, the tots, the tacos. Don't bother going somewhere in the back bay for dinner, just post up here. read more

One bad? experience (evening of 6/9) I've been here a few times and have generally had good experiences. I'll start by saying that the food is decent and worth trying for a small corner pub. My past experiences with both the door staff and bar staff have all been good. This last trip was both odd and off-putting. I had taken my friend who operates an internationally recognized restaurant locally to a little spot that I liked. I have spent over thirty years working in and operating establishments throughout New England and generally don't nitpick when enjoying a rare night out for myself. This particular occasion warrants a mention however. We arrived and sat at a couple of open spots at the bar where a female bartender was working. My friend was served relatively promptly however I took a bit longer to decide. I ordered a beer and we also ordered some tacos. The exchange felt hurried and not friendly, not unfriendly, just not hospitable. We got our food and found the tacos to be really good, not that the bartender asked, but that's fine. It was really the moment my friend got up to use his phone while I was finishing my beer that made the entire thing odd. We had paid and tipped generously. A couple came up from behind and began sitting in my friend's seat at which point I informed them that it was taken. That is totally fine except that I think that they were embarrassed as they quickly mentioned apologetically that the bartender had waved them over to take the seat. There was no conversation with myself or my friend on the matter. It was an entirely avoidable situation. It may have been a simple misunderstanding. It may have been an off night for this bartender. What I don't care for is being made to feel both rushed and not welcome. I'm not going to mention our races as there is no way of telling if that was a factor however I can't imagine that this person is so lacking in basic service etiquette that they treat all of your customers in the same manner. This has always been a welcoming friendly establishment in the past. I have enjoyed the food. I hope that whatever service hiccup I encountered is not a trend as I would love to be able to continue to recommend this place. Since I have been here before and enjoyed the time, I give it 3 stars, if this was my only experience, I would rate it lower. read more

If I went to bars enough to warrant being a regular at one, I would want to be a regular at Corner Tavern (or as we call it, CT). I've come to CT several times for drinks with friends and it never disappoints. You can always count on friendly service, good food, and friendly vibes. It has exposed brick and low ceilings so it feels very intimate and a great place to share a drink with close friends or grab a meal alone at the bar. FOOD: I've only eaten there once and some friends and I shared the pretzels with queso. I'm not much of queso fan but this stuff tasted fresh, the kind of queso that is homemade and not from a can. And every other thing I've seen others get has looked good as well. Wil definitely be back to CT again and again. read more

Wow, Corner Tavern was simply remarkable. Can not talk highly enough about Corner Tavern. What a wonderful dish Sweet Braised Short Ribs was. Totally mind-blowing. Staff ensured that every thing was o. k. It's perfect. read more

This place was everything we were hoping for. It wasn't too expensive and not too cheap. The ambiance was good. The high tops were a little uncomfortable but we got used to it. What made it was the food. The slow roasted beef tacos were FRICKEN INCREDIBLE. Seriously melted in our mouths and the cilantro sauce was amazing. The sandwiches had so much flavor and we're super well portioned. We weren't a huge fan of the potatoes that came with the sandwiches and do wish we would have gotten another side. Oh well. Next time!! read more

this place ate, you have to come here. pub food and drinks with slaying service, are you ready??

We are here from Seattle to watch the Mariners play the Red Sox. Bucket list for my husband. The first day here on Boston we stopped off here for a beer, since it was around the corner from the apartment we re renting. Danielle, the bartender that day was AWESOME! She is our new friend. She told us about other places to go see and was very helpful to us. The food was amazing, in fact we've eaten there twice in the 3 days we've been here and are going there today for brunch. Highly recommend this place to everyone!!! So far we've had the wings, tasty and not deep fried. Yummy! Their Reuben is delicious along with their roasted potatoes. Went nicely with the Harpoon IPA. Now off to try breakfast and their Bloody Mary's. read more

Really nice place, vibes are good - calm but very welcoming. Service was excellent - highly recommend for a drink or two in Back Bay.

This is a fantastic gem tucked away in the heart of Boston. I came here when the heart of Boston was pumping fast (game six world series) and they kept the crowd minimal enough that you could walk around and hear yourself think but busy enough it remained fun. There is a decent draft list and service is very quick. Door staff was dealing with a lot but remained friendly, attentive and fun. The food was surprisingly outstanding. Don't let the Irish pub decor fool you, dinner here is something to rave about-I still crave the brie and caramelized onion flat bread! The roasted potatoes and chicken wings were also praise worthy. I will certainly go back and get another fix! read more

I feel like I have been and am always searching for the perfect bar in Boston. You know....full but not too packed, some good music but not crazy loud where you have to be screaming to the person next to you, cozy but not too intimate where it's too much of a date place, and a great selection of liquor and draught beer for non-outrageous prices. Welllllllll - I found it!! Came to Corner Tavern on a Friday night with a girl friend. Walked down the steps to this underground - neighborhood bar and immediately felt at home. Had some great conversations, met some cool people, and didn't wake up the next morning dreading to look at my bank account. Yes I will be back - and may just have to try their food too! read more

Corner Tavern is a casual low-key bar. Came here with work and I didn't mind the vibe. They had my go-to Gluten-Free drink (Downeast) for $7 which is too bad. Our waiter was really attentive about my allergy and was able to tell me everything on the menu that was okay to eat. I really appreciated it. I got the Nacho Bowl. Overall a cute bar to come by when I am around. read more

We ventured here on President's Day after reading all the positive reviews. The place wasn't crowded when we walked in. Just a few guys at the bar. The bartender acknowledged us and we grabbed a table near the back. The bartender/waiter was right on top of things. I started out by trying a 21st Amendment that they had as part of their rotating drafts. It was very nice. They had $5 happy hour apps. My fiancee and I enjoyed the wild mushroom and truffle oil flatbread. I had to get the meatloaf burger for my main. It was good...not great. I didn't get a big sprig of rosemary either! Not that I needed it. The big winner of the night was my fiance's dinner. A roasted vegetable sandwich with house made pesto pasta salad. It was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Make sure you are both thirsty and hungry when you come to The Corner Tavern! read more

Came by this place for a drink and a quick dinner before heading out of town. The space is nicely laid out and has that hometown bar feel to it. The bartender and staff were nice and fairly quick. They had only 4-5 taps, but it was a good mix of mainstream must haves and a couple of neat specialty beers. I tried their meatloaf burger and wasn't impressed. The burger was fine, but it just wasn't my thing. The positive is that the menu isn't boring same-old for a bar. I overheard the chef saying that the menu will be changing shortly, so standby for updates. This place is nothing to write home about, but "A-OK" to write on Yelp about. read more

I wish I had a photo to post, but the meal was devoured in seconds. Maybe the best nachos I have ever had in all of my life. Also, do not sleep on the pretzel (with queso, duh!). Stopped in for a quick pint while checking out my husband's grandfather's childhood neighborhood. Sheeh, what a mouthful. They have a good beer selection and a cool spot. I liked that you can people's shoe watch. I bet this place is hopping on a Friday night. The flatbread was good, we ordered the wild mushroom and truffle flatbread and it was gone as fast as it come to the table. It made me especially happy because they were playing Star Trek TNG episodes with subtitles. They have a lot of TVs, so if you like sports I'm sure they can put your game on. I will keep this place in mind for our next trip to Boston! read more

After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to having a gourmet take on grilled cheese and tomato soup from a comfortable casual restaurant. The quality was not as high as I expected; both items were quite standard. The tomato soup could have been from Trader Joe's. The ambiance was also not what I was expecting. The place appeared to be primarily a bar, that also served food. Maybe that explains my disappointment, I was hoping for restaurant quality and got bar quality. read more

Love, love Corner Tavern. My BF lives around the corner (so the name definitely applies) so we come here frequently. I have been a few times on a weekend night, gets crowded but not obnoxiously so, still easy to get a drink and you don't get pushed around. Music is eh, but no fault of theirs since there is a jukebox (pretty sure about that). Personally, I really like going in during the week for a couple of drinks and a cheap dinner. The menu is not huge, but there is definitely somethign for everyone and they update it on a fairly regular basis. Oh, and the food is good! Simple, like sandwiches, salads, flatbreads etc, but really good. Definitely recommend this place as one of my favorite, chill, neighborhood bar spots in Boston! read more

There are very few taverns/pubs that can serve up good food. Corner Tavern has great food that is very reasonably priced. There are two specific sandwiches I will continue to come back for. The Meatloaf Burger is gorgeous. The perfectly balanced ingredients just put this burger over the top: tender meatloaf, smoky and tangy chipotle ketchup, sharp Vermont cheddar, and sweet applewood bacon. This burger will make-out with every taste bud in your mouth. Seriously. The Short rib and goat cheese sandwich is the other star. Sweet braised short ribs balanced by the punch of goat cheese, and rounded off with potato salad. You also get a side (which you won't have room for). The pasta salad side is huge and has pesto and sun-dried tomatoes. Service is standard for a tavern/pub. This is not a restaurant so I really don't care if anyone is tending to me, especially because it means I get to pay a little less for awesome food. If you are close-by, the weekday $5 lunch menu (select items) before 3pm is the best deal, but be prepared to nap. Thank you Corner Tavern for being in my neighborhood. read more

Serviceable bar, but doesn't quite replace the "Other Side." Can't believe I've biked up Mass Ave for years, unaware of this subterranean bar. Popped by for a few drinks with friends - low-key digs with plenty of seating. Menu looked good, but made the mistake of purchasing the $2 tacos. Don't. It's difficult to admit this, but Taco Bell would make a killing selling replacement tacos here. Draft selection is okay, if not too diverse; problem is that at about eight bucks (with tip) for a pint of Harpoon on tap is a bit pricey for a no-frills corner bar. Not too many teeny boppers, despite its proximity to Boston University. Guess they card effectively. read more

Corner Tavern has that perfect combination of dim, semi-divey bar feel, great beer and creative food without pretension, and super friendly staff. I went for the meatloaf burger (recommended) and an oktoberfest and chilled at the bar for a while with a novel, chatting 90s hip hop with a server, and watching the bartender play backgammon with another customer. Welcoming to outsiders, friendly to locals -- this has been one of my favorite spots to accidentally stumble across. I'll be back. read more

This is a great "night cap" location after a few brewskies around town. I live very close by so it is a quick walk home after this bar. This place is NEVER crowded, and that is so very refreshing after a crazy night on boylston or fanueil. They have a good variety of beers and very reasonably priced. I know nothing about the food. ONLY PROBLEM: Even though you are RIGHT on Mass Ave, sometimes it is VERY difficult to get a taxi home at the end! Surprising but true. read more

What a nice place! A chill bar in a sea of dude-bros. Of course, I went on a Thursday night.
