Never heard of this place. Never would of thought to stop here. But on my way home from mammoth, one of my friends said this is a must try. We got there early because he said how amazing it was. This is THE. BEST. EVER. BBQ. I've EVER had. I live in LA and I think about taking a trip up to copper top on a weekly basis just to be able to eat this amazing family owned BBQ joint. Meat was great but would have liked to have some veggies as a side option like coleslaw. Big negative they served everything in non recycled plastic containers. For each meal we had 2 containers each. I felt so bad throwing everything in garbage for landfill. I stopped here for the first time with a friend who highly recommended this place as a MUST stop on our way home from Mammoth. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork Sandwich Combo and it was to die for! There is a solid 1 pound of pulled pork on a super soft pretzel type bun, and it comes with a sweet Hawaiian roll and about a cup of tangy coleslaw that pairs perfectly with the pulled pork. I can't recommend this place for more then their bbq, it is sooo good! My only complaint is their inconsistent hours over the Christmas holiday. I understand everyone needs time off, but more consistent notice on their hours online and when we called ahead of time would have been great. Our first trip up at the beginning of December, we drove back on a Sunday really looking forward to having their bbq and they were closed with no signs in front of how long, why, etc. Our second trip up, we were coming home from New Years on a Tuesday and they were closed for their normal days. Today, we were driving home, not expecting them to be open, and we're pleasantly surprised. If they could cross post their hours and closures in advance as possible, it would be much appreciated by all that love and support your food. read more

Words can't explain how good the BBQ is here at Copper Top. I had the "Big Pine Sample Platter" with green chili beans and potatoe salad. The Brisket was absolutely delicious, it melted in your mouth as soon as it entered. The pork ribs tasted smokey and the flavor was perfect. The meat fell off of the bones and took you to your happy place. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the mix of the smoke and the rub they used on the chicken was a perfect combination. You HAVE TO order a side of beans no matter what you order, the taste says it all. The potatoe salad reminded me of how my grandma used to make with the black olives and pickles, took me back home. I would highly recommend anyone who is driving through to stop and have some of their delicious food. I will be back for sure and I can't wait to plan another trip. My only draw back was I tried to order the pulled pork sandwich but they were sold out, so I have to assume it was that awesome that I have to show up early to try it. read more

I've been coming to Coppertop a few times a year for the last four years anytime I'm coming down the 395. This most recent trip I did not know that they had moved. While at the old location a friendly man drove up and said you look like you're looking for Copper Top, I said yes and he said but I needed to go down the street to the new location and that his son fix me up at the new location. I enjoyed that the BBQ was on the side as you get to choose how much you want on. The smoked flavor and rub was enough. Tried coleslaw and potato salad. Both just okay. I was pleased with just the meat. They give you Hawaii bread. My next visit will be ordering meat to go and they can vacuums deal for you and bringing home to fresh cornbread and homemade sides that I enjoy. Worth the stop. We were going to mammoth a lot and we would pass early morning or later at night. I was happy to catch this place open when we decided to leave mammoth early. Warming - all outdoor seating. The chicken was moist and had good flavor; however, the skin was leathery and not edible. Which if you like skin, is really too bad because it was packed with some really good flavor. I went with three stars because I don't care about chicken skin and don't usually eat ribs. I would give four stars for the tri-tip and slaw which I will order the next time I stop here. However, my wife who is a ribs and chicken fan would have gone 2 stars. So I split the difference. read more
