Stopped for ribs and pulled pork sandwiches on our way to Mammoth. Fantastic meaty, sweet, smokey, fall off the bone ribs. Pulled pork sandwiches were amazing. Make sure you ask for a small cup of slaw to put on your sandwich. Stopped again on the way home and picked up some vacuum sealed ribs and chicken for dinner. Hank and Matt are true salt of the earth people. I enjoyed talking to both as they worked the BBQ like masters. It is an absolute must if you are ever in Lone Pine or just passing through! Fantastic BBQ, easy pickup, outdoor eating options. It's all about the meat! Ribs were the highlight with a good bark/crust and fell right off the bone. Brisket was tender and marbled. Pulled pork was also good. Their spicy sauce could use a little more of a kick, but was still flavorful. The potato salad was also good with some pickles mixed in. Pleasantly surprised of the BBQ here, especially since Copper Top BBQ is basically in the middle of no where. My coworker had told me that this place was "just okay" but I had to give it a shot myself. I read on Yelp that everyone recommended the St. Louis ribs and so that's what I got. Half rack of ribs, caramelized to perfection. My friends got the pulled pork meal, which he said he liked. The rest of us stuck with the ribs. I wasn't too much of a fan of the potato salad because it has olives in it but GET THE GREEN CHILI! There is only 1 small bathroom located inside so you have to wait in line to use them. Also there are limited tables so it could get tough to find a seat when It gets busy. There are tables inside the barn, which have fire and a lot warmer than the outside tables. Disappointing... Driving by on my way to June Lake, I stopped here to get some lunch. The red oak smokers out front look impressive so I thought I might get some delicious bbq here. The line was about 20 people in front of me but it only took about 15 minutes to get to the order window. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich Meal and got it in my hands about 10 minutes later. The tables out front are inadequate for the number of people eating there. The tables are also right along the path of the line of people waiting to order. Very crowded and uncomfortable. However the main reason for only two stars is that the pulled pork was totally unimpressive. I've made pulled pork in my own backyard smoker that's ten times better than Coppertop BBQ. Won't be stopping here again... I don't recommend this place to real bbq lovers. - Cheers! read more

Located right on Main St, Copper Top BBQ is an insanely popular BBQ joint. There is a back lot for parking or plenty of street parking as well. The service is okay and the food is good. Everything is perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the eating arrangements are not awesome.. it's either outside or in a barn that is just swarming with so many flies that it's uncomfortable to eat. 395 is a highway in the Eastern Sierra basically acting as a thoroughfare between Southern California and Reno. There are scores of great stops along the way. The views if the Eastern Sierras are amazing. Copper Top is fantastic as a "restaurant" and as a statement. A BBQ place that is an "Encore" Career. A kitchen that mostly is outside in the upper dessert wind which only adds to its "Terrior." A invaluable addition to a small community. An innovative (see the super hi-tech vending machine in front for off-hours purchases) approach to "destination dining." The Rack of ribs were super moist and seasoned perfectly. The Santa Maria Tri-Tip Sandwich was moist and toothsome (as it should be). The Pulled Pork was delicious in it's Pretzel Roll bun! This place is inspirational! Your in the middle of nowhere and yet you are not. You have a priceless view and are living an invaluable life! It is hard word indeed... but as you smoke and grill just look west. I should have taken a picture before I started eating but I couldn't help myself! This is by far the best BBQ spot I have ever had in California, Mississippi and I am venturing to even say Texas . So I ordered vacuumed sealed ribs to go for the family off a suggestion by my brother who is a self proclaimed (and very good) BBQer and a tri tip sandwich for the drive. Needless to say while I waited Hank made sure I tried some ready to eat ribs right then, I regret not ordering more than two slabs! These ribs were stick to the bone fall off the bone delicious. Absolutely phenomenal, the perfect mix of tender but still on the bone bite. Hank sent bed them without sauce, no need to cover up that flavor with sauce at all, perfection! Oh and the tri tip sandwich I was sure I was going to have to put bbq sauce on it, NOPE, no sauce needed I just devoured a tri tip sandwich dry, and it was the best I have ever had. The roll that he uses stand up to the meat, and he puts enough meat to feed two people for sure. Words can't explain how good the BBQ is here at Copper Top. I had the "Big Pine Sample Platter" with green chili beans and potatoe salad. The Brisket was absolutely delicious, it melted in your mouth as soon as it entered. The pork ribs tasted smokey and the flavor was perfect. The meat fell off of the bones and took you to your happy place. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the mix of the smoke and the rub they used on the chicken was a perfect combination. You HAVE TO order a side of beans no matter what you order, the taste says it all. The potatoe salad reminded me of how my grandma used to make with the black olives and pickles, took me back home. I would highly recommend anyone who is driving through to stop and have some of their delicious food. I will be back for sure and I can't wait to plan another trip. My only draw back was I tried to order the pulled pork sandwich but they were sold out, so I have to assume it was that awesome that I have to show up early to try it. read more

The chicken meat was cut up chunks of really bland chicken. No skin, not a lot of flavor, might have well as been from a school cafeteria. The tri tip was better, but still not very flavorful. I have been going to Copper Top for several years and it was one of my favorite BBQ restaurants anywhere. Since Copper Top moved up the street from its old location, the menu has also changed. Instead of the chicken that was barbequed whole and then cut down, they now serve chicken strips covered with sauce. The original chicken was some of the finest served anywhere, while the replacement is just ok, but nothing special. Their tri-tip was a consistent star, but on this visit it was over cooked and dry. No smoke rings and no smoke flavor. Also be aware that side dishes are pretty much limited to potato salad or mac & cheese. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but I can't do that now. The Lone Pine Smokehouse is now just as good and has more options. read more

This place was awesome. I had a brisket sandwich. All of our meals were amazing. We took some food with us in meal prep containers. It was good the next day S leftovers.
