Mediocre. The ribs were unavailable. We tried the roast beast sandwich. Plain, no favor.

Holy Smoke Texas Style Barbecue

Holy Smoke Texas Style Barbecue

We were in Bishop around dinner time looking for somewhere to eat. We looked on Yelp and saw this…read moreBBQ restaurant had pretty good reviews. I love good BBQ and it's hard to find in California. My sister lives in the south and they have great BBQ, but we noticed they have tri-tip on the menu which is not a cut you find in the south, so we decided to try it out. There was a line to the door when we walked in. The line moved fairly quickly and we were still deciding what to order when we got to the front. My son only wanted Mac N Cheese. My sister and I decided to split a sampler with tri-tip, brisket, and hot link with mac N cheese, cornbread, and a baked potato. We found a seat and there a few BBQ sauces on the table. Our food came out within 5 minutes. The food looked great. My son who really only likes chicken for protein saw the tri-tip and thought it looked great. My son ended up eating as much as we did, he loved it. The tri-tip and the brisket were perfectly seasoned and smoked. They were some of the best I've had. The hot link, was good, but not my favorite thing. It was quite spicy which was fine, I didn't love the texture as much. The mac N cheese was good. The bakes potato was over cooked and the skin was a little tough and not edible. The cornbread was good. The sauces were quite tasty. I liked the spicy and even my picky son loved the spicy. Overall it was a very nice meal and the service was great. The employees were very friendly and welcoming.

Popped in for dinner and ordered the sampler platter. Tried 3 different meats: brisket, tri tip,…read moreand the regular sausage. For sides, I ordered baked mac and cheese and the beans. The meal also came with a piece of cornbread. The cost of the sampler is $28. Brisket had a decent bark, although im not certain both sides of the brisket was seasoned but it was pretty tender. The smoke on the brisket was pretty aggressive, leaving ALMOST a bitter taste. Thankfully, I like a pretty aggressive smoke. Nice smoke flavor on the tri tip but also seemed to lack seasoning. Was otherwise pretty good. The sausage ended up tasting pretty good! The beans might have been ever so slightly undercooked, but otherwise tasted good. The mac and cheese says it is baked, but honestly, its hard to tell aside from the burnt cheese on top. Other than that, it was alright. The best part of the experience was the servers. They were super friendly and regularly checked on the guests. All in all, the food was just ok. Not sure it would be my first choice in eating spots in town though, especially considering the prices.

Aaron Schat's Roadhouse - Juicy burger cooked to perfection

We travel through Bishop once or twice a year. We know the Schat's bakery gets all the love, but…read morethe Roadhouse?? Yes please!!! Hubby and I stopped in for a late lunch on our journey home after a quick trip to Disneyland the day prior. It's a long drive, so Bishop is about halfway to home. We don't like traveling with leftovers, so we often share a meal. Yesterday was the Bluey Armstrong burger with a side of the garlic Parmesan fries. The burger was great! Juicy, cooked to perfection, and so flavorful. But the fries? For the love of all that's good those fries sent me on a trip straight to heaven. I wouldn't say I'm a fry snob, but I do know what I like, and these were possibly the best garlic parm fries I've ever had. So much so that I told my hubby I'd recommend going on a 6 hour girls' trip just for the fries. (My gal pals and I do weird trips for stuff like this.) Long story short(ish) stop here for food. You will be saying "get in my belly" with the only regret that it isn't closer to your home. Unless you live in Bisho, in which case you are a lucky person.

Aaron Schat's Roadhouse came up as the best suggestion and it did not disappoint! It was only 11am but we started with 2 pints of Coor's lol. Then we ordered 2 Shot Gun burgers and beer battered fries. They were so delicious! The burger patty was freshly made and the bun was a cheese type bun from their bakery. The fries were so crispy. 1 basket of fries would have been enough to share but we ordered 2 not knowing and force fed ourselves to finish it all lol. We will definitely add this to our bishop stop on future trips!

The Back Alley Bowling and Steakhouse is truly a quirky little gem in Bishop, California. We travel…read morethrough this area a couple of times a year, and we always make a point to stop here for dinner--it's that good. This visit was no exception. We started with the wedge salad topped with delicious blue cheese and all the fixings. Their version adds a raspberry vinaigrette, which I was skeptical about at first but turned out to be the perfect touch--refreshing and flavorful. Of course, we couldn't skip the ribeye steak. It was cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, and paired with a classic baked potato that rounded out the plate beautifully. I also ordered a cup of their corn chowder--oh my gosh, it was outstanding! Rich, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweetness. The service was every bit as impressive as the food. Our waitress Wendy was friendly and attentive, and the bussing staff had impeccable timing, always keeping our water glasses full & are empties whisked away. This place is always a treat and truly a must-stop if you're ever in the Bishop area. Thank you once again to the Back Alley crew for another wonderful dinner--it never disappoints!

Having already been…read moreto great restaurants in Gardena Bowl and Aiea Bowl (Oahu), I was all for checking this place out. Loved their clam chowder. I had the prime rib, cooked perfectly. My fiancée had a burger and he said it was also cooked perfectly. The only issue we had was there was a large company party going on at the same time and it's just one big room so we had to listen to all of their speeches. I felt like I couldn't even talk because it would be interrupting their party. Would still definitely come back here.

Helena’s Vietnamese Kitchen - Pork spring rolls

My friend and I both ordered summer roll (pork and lettuce wrapped in rice paper) and spring rolls (shrimp and lettuce wrapped in rice paper) at $12 for 4 rolls. The Vietnamese owner lady was very nice and let us order them as a mixture of 2 spring rolls and 2 summer rolls as one order. Freshly made to order. They look and taste very "home made", also on the smaller side compared to what I'm used to (lots of Vietnamese restaurants near where I live), and these rolls do not come with rice noodles as many others I'm used to. All that aside, we took our very first bite a few hours later and my friend immediately felt stands of hard thin strings in her mouth, and spitting out SEVERAL STRANDS of short hair, which is not the same color as her own long hair. Shocking. Very shocking. My rolls were just fine with no foreign substances, however the more we eat the more we are getting grossed out from the encounter...she didn't finish eating that roll with hair in it and continue to eat 2 out of the 3 rolls left and so did I, since we were both very hungry and it was our only food option during the long journey, but the whole time we were getting more and more grossed out and none of us ate the 4th last roll in our order. Payment: She accepts credit card or Venmo, but any other form of payment besides cash would be an extra dollar of up charge. Instead of paying $13 for a $12 item, we decided to scramble for cash to pay her. Location: One of three food trucks located in a dirt road parking lot with active large and live mosquitoes flying around attacking us while we order food and dine. A Mexican taco truck each to the left and right side of this Vietnamese food truck. Other: This lady owner says she's had her business here for 5 years now. Had wanted to try several items on the menu but already made a purchase with the taco truck to its right. Perhaps it's a good thing, because the sanitary and hygiene issue here is questionable. I hope she starts to wear a hair net when she preps food. I mean, I understand we all shred hair daily and she must of been working hard to chop the veggies and hand roll each spring roll...but we really don't need that evidence in the form of strands of hair in our food...

This was the best part of our meal. We also tried the vegetarian spring rolls and the bbq beef rice noodle (#13). I was disappointed in the measly portion of beef on my plate. The banh mi was definitely the better option. I do recommend this place either way if you're craving Vietnamese :)
