Drove into Bishop Friday night and just wanted a small dinner. Luckily, we found this spot. SERVICE - totally 5 stars in itself! The lady and guy at the bar who helped us were so incredibly friendly and personable. You can just tell they're good people and probably come across interesting people working there. FOOD - YUM! Their simple tomato basil soup and chicken tortilla soup hit the spot and was just what I needed after a long drive. I was about to let my stomach take over and order more food because so much looked really appetizing, buy I knew I couldn't handle it. We will be back though to try out their grilled cheese sandwiches! Dessert was delicious too! Cheesecake STUFFED with a raspberry danish?! What mastermind thought of this??? AND they had huckleberry flavored ice cream that I am a sucker for. AMBIANCE - Quaint spot that basically has 2 rooms to hang out. Super bummed to be leaving this review because the owner, Teresa, is awesome! The staff however definitely needs some work. A very young girl, maybe 13 or 14 brought us water, she was very sweet. After that we watched a young man at the other end of the bar, in a 1903 apron, lint roll his clothes and hands for about 15 minutes, while having a conversation with another man, who we overheard say he worked there, but it was his day off. Another lady came behind the bar area, glanced our way, but never came down to say hello, ask us if we wanted food or drinks or anything. It was not busy at all, 2 tables and 3 people (including us) at the bar top. There was no excuse for the lack of service. All in all, 4 staff members and only 1 acknowledged us within 20 minutes. We can't speak on the food, we lost our patience at the 20 minute mark and walked out. Took our money down the street. We won't be back here anytime soon. read more

He loved his sandwich and my grilled cheese was so good. The potato salad was ok, I wouldn't order it again. The service was great, the owner came to our table and asked how everything was. It was tasty but could have had more meat-we added a house salad which was a pretty good deal for $5. Adult kids had Guinness brats (server couldn't tell us why it was called "Guinness"-LOL). The huge selection of toppings (up to 6 each) for the Brats made them both smile. Beer selection very good and nice and cold. Prices reasonable and food out pretty quickly. Very disappointing. Food was average quality. The portions were a joke. Tiny hot dogs with cold soggy bread and a pathetically small side for $15. I left starving still and went to carls Jr for burger after. At least have an adult size portion for the main entrée or a actual sides like onion rings fries or potato skin or chicken strips, not a sampler size cup of macaroni or mac and cheese. It's a small place, and very fun. The staff is kind, helpful, and friendly. The bartender taught my daughter how to properly throw darts. Our waitress was patient while we were contemplating multiple brisket sandwich options. We ultimately went with the original brisket sandwich, and it did not disappoint. Meat was tender, juicy, and savory. The vinegar coleslaw was great and better than the mayo version other places serve. Our server was an older lady and she was kind as well. We were passing through Bishop and decided to stop for dinner. This is a small town but it has lots to chose from. We decided to give 1903 Taphouse a try as the menu looked interesting. When you first walk in, it looks like you walked into a neighborhood bar and there is also a room on the side for larger parties. The person who worked there was super friendly and helpful, made us feel like we were in his house instead of a restaurant. At his recommendation for customer favorites, my wife chose the Spicy Line and Main and I had the smoked brisket sandwich. Both came out in about 5 minutes. My sandwich was very tasty and had lots of flavor. The Spicy Line and Main was just that, a hot dog with the right amount of spice to make it taste good. This seemed to be a very popular local hang out as most people who walked in were greeted by everyone else there. Definitely will be eating here again the next time we are passing through. read more
