Why did we eat here? - Schats Roadhouse is located in Bishop, California. We were here to bike White Mountain, and visited legendary Erick Schat's Bakkerÿ. The bakery has so many different breads, cookies, pastries and more. The problem with the bakery is that there are no price tags. It was a no brainer to try his restaurant. Menu is fairly wide ranging - burgers to steak to salads and more. Limited options for vegetarians. The food was slightly above average and prices were reasonable. We didn't expect foodie quality eats here. You place an order at the counter and food is brought to you. Service was pretty much non existent. Food Review: Rotisserie Chicken Half ($17.95) is one of their signature dishes and comes with 2 large sides. We choose lime cilantro rice and black beans. Stop by on the way to lake Tahoe and ordered rotisserie chicken and half slab of ribs. Ribs are good but rotisserie chicken is a MUST!! So tender and moist. Sides are good, cilantro like rice and ranch bean are good complement. Ended up stopping by on the way back and only had the whole rotisserie. So good. My friend and I stopped here on our way to mammoth lakes around 7pm. Right away, we could tell that this was the place to be, with a line out the door on a Monday night. The restaurant was clean with many tables to choose from. The food came very quickly. We both got the half rotisserie chicken with rice, salad, tortillas, and pico de gallo. LITERALLY THE BEST BURGERS IN MORO VALLEY. Came to Aaron Schat's Roadhouse with the girls after a full day of mammoth skiing. Got the walker Texas Roadhouse burger, the hot shot burger, and garlic parmesan fries. It was all so delicious!! The service was great super friendly, Steve is really helpful and funny!! He apparently picks up the DELICIOUS meat himself so it's super fresh. Ambiance is super casual roadhouse vibes. This is one of those if you know you know spots. We were skiing in mammoth the past couple days and opted to wait until our drive through bishop to grab dinner on the drive home because it's just that good. It's like a little oasis on Route 396. Burgers, fries, cold beer, all foods here are so good. Freshly baked cheese roll is so delicious with burgers. Food is great but a bit on the fatty side. I ordered the Walker Texas Ranger burger and a fountain drink. The burger had an excellent, super-crunchy bun, and it stayed firm and didn't get soggy. It tasted homemade, but it was definitely a little too fatty for me. The patty was well-seasoned and juicy, and the other components were good, though I wasn't a big fan of the sauce--it was a bit too salty. The fries were amazing--really crunchy and well-seasoned. While on a camping road trip, we decided to stop in town for a burger and beer since we've never explored downtown Bishop before. Aaron Schat's Roadhouse came up as the best suggestion and it did not disappoint! It was only 11am but we started with 2 pints of Coor's lol. Then we ordered 2 Shot Gun burgers and beer battered fries. They were so delicious! The burger patty was freshly made and the bun was a cheese type bun from their bakery. The fries were so crispy. 1 basket of fries would have been enough to share but we ordered 2 not knowing and force fed ourselves to finish it all lol. Not consistent. I ordered a burger and fries during the lunch hour and the food was so good. The meat was moist, the fries had a good crunch to them. The bun was soft. It was very good. Another time, I ordered a burger and fries during dinner and it was not good. The burger had a hard bun, the meat was dry and over cooked, and the fries tasted like they were over cooked in very old oil. They tasted gross lile you're eating oil. I went from a pleasant experience to a bad experience. It wasn't consistent. For $20, I expect the food to be good. I probably won't return because that last burger I had was just so bad. Well, kind of a mixed bag. We ordered food to go, my wife had aloha chicken sandwich and said it was delicious. Our friends ordered half rotisserie chicken and said it was delicious as well. I ordered the dip sandwich and it was one of the worst I've ever had. The roast beef was dry, tough and looked more like jerky than sliced RB. The au jus was flavourless and didn't even come with a side like every other sandwich. Since the other meals were good I would go back and try something else. Stopped in for a late lunch after a grueling hike so suffice to say - we were starving. The restaurant is set up cafeteria style where you order at the counter and can take the number to your chosen table. I was impressed with how fast the service was. There was a bit of a rush when we got there but hardly had to wait for our meals. I got the Bluey Armstrong burger with an impossible patty. It was pretty epic. The grilled onions were cooked to utterly perfection. The blue cheese was potent. I got a side of the garlic parmesan fries. Ample toppings. The fries had a really nice crisp to them. I will say that overall this was a saltier meal than I normally prefer but given the context this hit hard. Definitely recommend if in the mood for a good burger and fries! read more

Excellent food! Burgers are amazing. I got the hot shot burger and my husband got the jalapeño burger. We got sweet potato fries and the garlic Parmesan fries. So good. I rarely eat red meat, and I'm so glad I made an exception and got the burger! So juicy and flavorful. Our 3 kids loved their food too. One got the kid's burrito and it was way better than I was expecting for a kids burrito. Another kid for the chicken fingers, and the 3rd kid got the ranch hand and really liked it too. The fries with the kids meals were excellent as well. We will definitely be coming back. Steve came and checked on us several times and talked to us a bit about some local fire warnings and made us feel very welcome. So friendly here. Great food and great service. We have always seen this restaurant on the way to Mammoth but never stopped by until tonight & boy are we glad we did! Was craving wings & fries & saw this place showed up as a recommendation & was closeby. Parking is very spacious they have their own lot. Lots of seating in the restaurant too. You go to the cashier counter first to place your order & pay. They have copies of their menu up front to look over. Then they give you your order number to place on your table. We ordered sides of sweet potato fries, & the garlic parmesan fries to go alongside our 12 pc hot & spicy wings (buffalo wings basically). It was a Saturday night & they had a talented gentleman sing & play the guitar on stage. It set a great ambience while we enjoyed our meal. Loved seeing him interact with the audience. Our orders came out less than 15 minutes. Fountain drinks & waters are self serve. Our food came hot & the smell was amazing. You could smell the tanginess of the wings, & the garlic from the fries. Ranch is available upon request. The buffalo wings were the best I've had in awhile- they were juicy & generous with the sauce which I really enjoy personally because I hate dry wings. They gave us an equal amount of drumsticks & flats. The fries were crispy & not too oily. My favorite were the sweet potatoes! Even as a "side" size instead of the full basket it was more than enough for us - we ended up taking to go. I like how the to go boxes are placed right by the soda machine - it's efficient so we can grab what we need without waiting in line again or waiting to flag down a waiter. We travel through Bishop once or twice a year. We know the Schat's bakery gets all the love, but the Roadhouse?? Yes please!!! Hubby and I stopped in for a late lunch on our journey home after a quick trip to Disneyland the day prior. It's a long drive, so Bishop is about halfway to home. We don't like traveling with leftovers, so we often share a meal. Yesterday was the Bluey Armstrong burger with a side of the garlic Parmesan fries. The burger was great! Juicy, cooked to perfection, and so flavorful. But the fries? For the love of all that's good those fries sent me on a trip straight to heaven. I wouldn't say I'm a fry snob, but I do know what I like, and these were possibly the best garlic parm fries I've ever had. So much so that I told my hubby I'd recommend going on a 6 hour girls' trip just for the fries. (My gal pals and I do weird trips for stuff like this.) Long story short(ish) stop here for food. Schat's Roadhouse is such a good place to go after a day of skiing. Our group of four ordered takeout around 3:30pm and we picked it all up around 10 minutes later, which I thought was extremely fast for how much food we all ordered (different sandwiches/burgers, fries, shakes). I ordered the bluey armstrong burger with a side of parmesan garlic fries and an oreo milkshake. The burger had a lot of blue cheese on it (yay!) and was medium rare, just like I wanted. They also use cheese rolls from Schat's Bakery as the bun! The side of parmesan fries was pretty large, and they did not skimp out on the parmesan and minced garlic! One person in the group ordered the fry basket, and as a note, there are more fries than you'd get in the basket versus as a side, but both portions are large. The shake was yummy too - a little melted, but the sheer amount of oreo chunks made it worth it. There is lots of seating too which is great for groups. I'll be back to enjoy the food and restaurant itself next time I'm in Mammoth/Bishop! read more
