Service was pleasant and positive I ordered a black iced tea and it was unsweetened but tasted very fruity. 10/10 recommend the black iced tea. It was refreshing. My friend ordered a panini and my boyfriend ordered the eggs on avocado and the waffle with sausage and eggs. They both really enjoyed their food. Everything is light and tastes fresh. What a cute spot! My husband was spending way too much time next door and I found this place tucked behind a really cute book store. Service was friendly. My chocolate latte was delicious! I stop here every time I'm traveling up the 395. Their matcha is the best and I don't say that lightly. The matcha is perfectly frothed and tastes delish. It's not too thin and not too thick. I get mine sweetened and it's not too sweet, it's truly perfectly balanced. I could go on and on, but it's hard to find a good matcha and theirs is the best. Their tuna salad sandwich is a work of art. The tuna salad is fresh and tasty with small portions lots of added ingredients. The lettuce is always fresh and green. The multigrain bread outstanding. If I can add no stars I would ! First of all, first time coming to this place and not once did I see the two ladies in the back in charge of making the food wash their hands. NOT ONCE. The eggs are not fresh they just throw it in the microwave and rely on it. Like what ? I had the egg and cheese panini and they gave us the American cheese and not Cheddar cheese. We were driving back to Los Angeles from Mammoth and stumbled upon this little gem, and we're so glad we did. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and the food was absolutely fantastic. I had their house-made waffle stuffed with sausage and egg, and it was incredible. My husband ordered a panini, and we added sausage and avocado - perfection. Our son had the avocado and eggs, which he loved. Everything came out fresh, hot, and made with care. The coffee was delicious (and came with free refills!), and while the hot chocolate could've been just a bit hotter, everything else was truly outstanding. Stopped in after reading the reviews, and it's worth it! Got the liege waffle breakfast sandwich and it's a tasty little morning treat - a mix of sweet and savory. Also got an iced latte and it was the best coffee. Delicious! They use Black Sheep coffee which has its own coffee shop just up the street. It can get really busy inside, then super calm 10 minutes later. You order at the register, then have a seat. Outside patio was crisp and cool this December morning. It took a while for the waffle sandwich to be made, so be prepared to wait a bit if it's busy. read more

Fantastic food, excellent espresso drinks, and friendly helpful employees. Overall a gem of the Bishop food options. I ate here for breakfast and lunch. The coffee gives the other places in town a run for their money and the breakfast waffle sandwich is a tasty sweet and savory treat. For lunch I had a salad that was fresh and healthy that I would definitely get again. This is my go to place for food in Bishop and when I come back I will eat here regularly. OK, I'm a local, so I'm probably biased . . . but traveling for work has broadened my horizons a bit, and convinces me that the Pupfish Café is exactly the kind of "secret" locals hangout that I'm always trying to find when I'm on the road. Tucked into the back of Spellbinder Books, with a parking lot that can't be seen from Highway 395, the Pupfish Café reminds me of a favorite line from one of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies: " . . . that which cannot be found except by those who already knows where it is." This café is a treasure worth searching for . . . My wife's food allergies, and my desire for a hearty breakfast, seldom play nicely together, but the Pupfish Café is that rare exception where we can both get what we want or need. She's a fan of their coffee/espresso and just about anything with avocados in it. I like the Egg&Cheese Panini - with added ham and the red pepper sauce - but other good choices abound on their menu. Add a piece of coffee cake and a mocha for me, and we're all set! Having lunch outside in the afternoon shade with our dogs at our feet (water courteously provided) is relaxing to the max! Highly recommend this place as a breakfast spot along the 395! Super convenient and they have a parking lot in the back. The food is really good. It's a bit busy but worth the slight wait. I tried the Norwegian toast, which was on sourdough and had more than enough smoked salmon and avocado. Really well seasoned and I loved the cilantro caper spread on top. It's a great amount. We were just passing through after being in Yosemite National Park for 3 days. We needed a break and found this little gem. It is dog friendly and has outdoor seating. We had Eggs on Avocado, and an Egg and Olive Salad Sandwich. Both were scrumptious. The staff were amazingly friendly. If you come this way give them a visit. This is a lovely breakfast and lunch place attached to the back of a bookstore on the main drag. I came here for both breakfast and lunch while in town last fall. When I came for lunch I got a latte, turkey sandwich with red pepper smear, and a rosemary lemon cookie. All were excellent! The sandwich comes with a great side salad of mixed greens. It was a nice amount of food; I was full but able to eat it all, and it felt healthy. Came back for breakfast and got the breakfast egg sandwich, which was also delicious and I would recommend it. Some colleagues tried the waffles and enjoyed them; note that the waffle itself is sweeter than average since it's the special liege style. The staff are great, I appreciate that they give you real utensils when you eat in, and love that there is both indoor and outdoor seating - and they'll bring your food to you regardless of which you pick. Initially thought this establishment was a warm and cute little spot for my friend and I to have coffee together. I brought my pet with me because it is advertised "pets are welcome". Nothing about "service dogs only". The man who took our order was very pleasant. After we got our drinks, my friend and I were enjoying a game of chess and a woman working there curtly asked if I could put my dog on the floor (she was sitting beside me on the cushion). Wasn't an issue at all, and I apologized and happily obliged. But then, a sweet little Asian family came inside with their VERY docile fur baby, and the woman raised her voice and started arguing with them about how they could stay inside to order, but couldn't stay inside to eat with their dog if it wasn't a service dog-because of "health codes". My friend and I were very confused at her being rude to this family and their dog, because the barista said nothing about my dog being a service dog or needing to leave after we ordered. Despite the barista being rude, the mom was polite through the whole interaction, and even pointed out how we have our dog inside. The barista then lied to the family, saying that we said our pet was a service animal!!! It almost seemed like she was looking for reasons to kick them out. The family shortly left after the interaction, and we chose to leave after as well. The whole interaction made us agitated and uncomfortable, we did not like the discrimination against the family, nor the rudeness from the barista. read more

My Mediterranean Toast with avocado and kalamata olives was absolutely fantastic. My wife had the Mixed Greens salad, which was fresh and fantastic. The coffee was also remarkable. Breakfast options included a waffle, iced coffee and latte drinks, hot mocha, coffee cakes, and other bakery items like muffins. At the time, they had a seasonal matcha latte which was OK (not worth the money). Lunch items included panini sandwiches. The sandwich options Turkey and cheese panini, tuna melt, portobello mushroom panini. The tuna melt was dry. The Turkey and cheese was the best. The mushroom lacked flavor and tasted weird. All food items are made fresh to order. Some of the ingredients were not to standard so I downgraded my 5 star to 4 star. The coffee was good but a tad overpriced. I highly recommend their waffles. We stopped here on our way home for a quick brekkie. We've been coming through Bishop for decades and this is our first visit...definitely not our last! The cafe is behind Spellbinder bookstore. Parking is in the back.. There is seating inside and outside. We were a party of 6 and Jannete (owner) saw that we were a chair short and brought us an extra from her storage closet. Such a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. I ordered their eggs and cheese panini with avocado and red pepper romesco sauce. SO GOOD! We were all pleased with our orders.
