This was my first time ever at an El Pollo Loco and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. We got a $11.79 Double Pollo Fit Bowl, $9.49 Chicken avocado quesadilla, $5 Original Pollo Bowl, and $9.89 Shredded Chicken Nacho. I like that they only have chicken. It stays consistent with their branding. All the chicken can be seen being cooked on a massive grill just past the counter. It looked fresh. The chicken was tasty and well seasoned. The salsas that came with our meal were all rather bland. The green one was like a citrus cilantro green sauce that leaned towards being refreshing. The red one was more of a spicy salsa and the pico de gallo was just must tomatoes. All of them lacked flavor. They all could've used more salt to bring out whatever flavors were blended into each sauce. The chicken avocado quesadilla was the most flavorful but wasn't worth its price. It was about the same portion as the much cheaper original pollo bowl. The pollo bowl looks small but I'd say it was the perfect portion and I like to eat until I'm full. I was left satisfied once I had finished it. It came with beans, pico de gallo, onions, chopped cilantro, seasoned rice, and chicken. The flavors came together very well. Although, if you are not a fan of beans, you might not like how this bowl is constructed. It's built with a layer of rice then a layer of beans and then the four even sections of veggies and chicken. The beans are hard to avoid with each bite. The restroom was clean. There was soap and warm water, nothing inferior about it. I didn't get a drink but I thought it was cool that the dispenser had two nozzles that each had three different options on each nozzle. It was interesting. I'd never seen something like that before. There's a $5 for 2 tacos deal on Tuesdays that the cashier pointed out to us when we were thinking of ordering tacos. The service was good enough, nothing rude or too good. Purchased a Double chicken salad at 8:15pm last night and it was the worst chicken salad I have ever had. The avocado was brown, the chicken was as tough as jerky and really salty and the lettuce was warm and wilted and not just where the chicken was sitting. I think it had been made several hours before it was sold to me. I would have gone back had it not been so late. I like to frequent different El Pollo Loco locations wherever I might happen to be. Where else can you get a nice healthy meal for such a modest price. I thought this particular location was clean, well run and nicely set up. They have more than adequate easy parking and they are located right in the center of town, very convenient to many of the motels in Bishop. This time I had the Classic Chicken Tostada here. It goes for $8.99 and is definitely worth the money. They will give you creamy cilantro dressing to go with it, but if you also want salsa, you will have to ask for it. read more

So there I was, driving North on HWY 395, and I was hungry. What to do? Where to go? ....and you know I love El Pollo Loco, it's healthier, you can get all the salsa you want, the chicken is grilling as you walk in, it's all good, and it was good. I'd definitely consider coming back to this location, but the trouble started when I sat down and, accidentally, looked across the street. There it was just gleaming in the sun... it was the Holy Smoke BBQ, and I had not looked up BBQ restaurants while I was on my way into town, and it was incredibly highly ranked... I had chosen a good place, but I could have had a meal from a one of kind location, a BBQ joint that many of my Yelp friends have enjoyed and highly ranked. Boy, this seemed like a mistake. I finally decided to take the little walk from the hotel to the restaurant (plus the 10% hotel discount was also a motivator). Staff were super cool and helpful. This is my second day in a row coming here. I have the same thing $5 3-taquito combo and a thigh on the side (for lunch the next day). Both days I was a a little disappointed because I only had about 5 or 6 chips thrown into my combo bowl (the guy next to me had a mountain of chips) but luckily for them I really want in the mood for chips. The taqueria were well cooked and the skin on the chicken was super crispy and brown (I enjoy the skin when it's cooked like this). But over time, we always had low expectations with chicken from El Pollo restaurants in Torrance as their chicken has been mediocre at best. You may ask why keep returning? Well it's easy and we do get good chicken on occasion. It's almost like the lottery, except when we hit the jackpot at Apollo Loco, the prize is juicy chicken! We ordered what we normally order which was the chicken only, leg and thighs 8 pcs. My daughter has since graduated to burritos, but still took a couple pieces of our chicken. Big appetite that girl . To our pleasant surprise, we got chicken that tasted the way I remember when I first had Pollo Loco, YEARS ago! Damn!
