Chile Relleno Molcajete
Bry H.

It's a bit pricey ngl. Flavor is good. The restaurant is spacious with lots of sitting. The molcajete takes 20min from order to table.

2 of each flavor of street taco lunch specials for Tuesday ONLY!

Ok, so first, If I could afford it I would eat here every week. The molcajetes are incredible! The presentation is outstanding! The price is high, but it is a specialty food. For a birthday party we ordered 3 for 7 people and ate every bit! But today, we tried the Tuesday street taco lunch specials, a non-menu item. $2 each for carne asada, shredded beef, chicken and chorizo. $3 each for shrimp and fish. We decided to get 2 of each to share between 4 people. They were amazing! Our total bill before tip was $45 which included a coke and two iced teas. The service is always great! They also serve great Margaritas, but we're not drinking st lunch. Please give this place a try if you are looking for a culinary experience!

Octopus was horrible! Chewy , gum is more chewable!

The salsa and chips are not tasty at all, the salsa super liquify but I didn't want that to determine our order. We order the cocktail of shrimp and octopus and a plate of chile relleno with rice and beans . The octopus was extremely bad! Not edible at all! Hard! Something was very wrong with this seafood! Like if I was pulling a piece of rubber! They really shouldn't be selling seafood! The rice was horrible! I know this is a small town but the quality of their food is horrible! I very gently mention to the waitress about my concerns of the food and she said she would let the "chef" know and came back and said they couldn't do anything about it and all they could do was give me couple shrimps if I wanted, I said no thank you! They still charge me full price . Never ever again this place! They really don't deserve not even one star!

Molcajetes was recommended by the hotel clerk, where I was staying, on a trip through Bishop, Ca. I'm thinking...taco, enchilada, beans and rice, my go-to combo. That is not this place!! An interesting, provocative menu captures my immediate attention. I decide on the wet burrito, while my friends order green enchiladas and the Chili Rellenos. The flavors in my burrito are so complex and delicious....better than any other burrito I've ever had. Sophisticated even. The pottery tumblers, used to hold beverages, are elegant and fun! My friends were equally enthusiastic about their meals. The staff were all very nice and the service was prompt. We arrived shortly before closing time and they were more than happy to accommodate us. They never rushed us and actually encouraged us to linger, enjoy our meals and have a second margarita. A great place to stop on Highway 395!

The best chilli rellenos in town, very small bit spicy at all but they are hand made and seeds taken out. Wish the poblano. Chili was smoked or cooked a bit longer. Chicken fingers are decent. Service was slow and our waiter who is Salvadorean was not very attentive. The woman here was much friendlier and offered more attentive service. Horchata is authentic Mexican with lots of cinnamon like traditional Mexican Horchata. Coffee was good and overall good food for a great value. I would definitely stop by again when I'm in Bishop, CA . usually stop here in our way to Lake Tahoe or Reno Nevada. Affordable and plenty if tables always available.u

I stopped for dinner early in the evening so it wasn't too busy, the service was excellent. I ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeño's appetizer, they had just the right amount of heat, not too spicy but good jalapeño flavor, filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon, they were cooked perfectly. I had the King molcajete, shrimp, prawns, assorted seafood and mixed veggies, peppers and roasted onions. All served in a hot molcajete and topped with a rich cheese sauce. It was very filling and full of flavor. The molcajete keeps everything hot the whole time. I was just visiting Bishop for the day for work and will definitely return on my next visit, there's a lot more menu I'd like to try. Louis was my server and was very attentive.

Food is absolutely delicious! It was so good that we ate here twice. We ordered the molcajete guacamole, tacos, fajitas and margaritas. All the dishes we ordered were served on a sizzling plate, beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. The margaritas were served on a salt rimmed glass and on the rocks (our preference) and they were absolutely refreshing specially after a long day's hike. The ambiance was fantastic, and the spacious dining area with its high ceilings provided me with a sense of comfort, especially considering the recent increase in COVID cases. We sat on a booth which was very comfortable. Service was excellent. Grace (I think, that's her name) served us the first day and Cesar served us the following day. They were both great, responsive and Grace checked on us regularly. We opted for take out the next day since we wanted to enjoy our balcony with a view in our hotel. I forgot my sunglasses and luckily, they kept it for me. Not only are they excellent staff but also honest and patient. Lots of parking! I absolutely recommend this place.

Apparently, you order first and THEN find a table--even with 20 empty tables staring at you. We learned this from a fellow customer who apparently promoted themselves to Assistant Seating Manager. Let's just say the explanation wasn't exactly friendly. Then there's the bar. Only about half seemed available for seating, giving me a little COVID-era flashback. I was looking around wondering, "Wait... are we still social distancing?" And if I want another beer, do I keep getting up and walking back to the bar? At that point I'm not drinking beer--I'm doing cardio with refreshments. We'd previously had an unfortunate bakery experience involving bugs and hair in our sandwiches, but everyone deserves another chance. Then I visited the bathroom. I was going to post a blurred picture, but honestly, I decided nobody needs to see that while scrolling through their feed. Let's just say whatever happened in that stall had somehow managed to cover just about everything. I'll leave the rest to your imagination. Overall: good burger, confusing setup, COVID-era seating vibes, and quite the collection of side quests. Order. Find table. Get scolded by the volunteer seating coordinator. Eat burger. Walk for beer. Visit bathroom. Question life choices.

I had a ribeye steak and it was a 10/10. Who would've thought a bowling alley would have great food. Our server, Michael, made the experience even better. He was friendly, attentive, and had great conversation that made us feel genuinely welcomed. He was handling all the tables by himself with a smile on his face! Right away when I walked in, I noticed how clean the restaurant was, and even the bathroom was nice and spotless which always says a lot. Overall, a fantastic experience from start to finish. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Unfortunately, ever since the ownership changed, the experience has gone downhill. The customer service is consistently rude and unwelcoming. It feels like staff are irritated just having to take your order. The food is now overpriced for the quality you get, which is a big change from how it used to be. I stopped going for about a year, but recently decided to give it another chance. I called in an order for myself and my disabled grandfather, who only has one arm. I politely asked multiple times if they could please cut the steak for him and even explained why. They clearly seemed annoyed by the request. When I picked up the food, everything looked rushed and just thrown into the boxes--and the steak was not cut. The rest of the meal was just as disappointing. The taquitos were plain with only cheese on top--no sides like guacamole or sour cream, especially disappointing for the price. The loaded potato wasn't even "loaded," just a plain potato. Between the poor service, lack of care, and declining food quality, this place is nothing like it used to be. It's honestly sad to see something that used to feel welcoming and enjoyable turn into somewhere I now dread going. I wouldn't recommend stopping here anymore. There are better places in town that actually value their customers.

And unfortunately, the wait was not worth it. The fish tacos were extremely dry and overcooked, with barely any salsa on top. The carne asada in the burrito was full of gristle and had a strange, almost off-putting smoky flavor that made the whole thing difficult to eat. THE BURRITO WAS $30!! The meal all together was $70 and we got robbed. ROBBED. The service itself was okay, and I will give credit where it's due: the cook actually came out and asked if we liked our food. I was honest and told him we didn't. He took the feedback with a positive attitude, which I genuinely appreciated. But unfortunately, that doesn't change the experience. Between the hour-long wait and the quality of the food, I honestly don't understand how this place has a 4.9 rating. It is BAFFLING to me. I wouldn't come back and honestly, I wouldn't return even if the food were 50% off.
