We were in town for the weekend and stumbled across this butcher shop and we were so glad we did! We stopped in to pick up a couple bone in ribeyes to throw on the grill && oh my, they were delicious!! The older gentleman who helped us was so friendly and helpful & not to mention welcoming; we felt right at home. This little shop is great. I wish they were closer to my home. The sliced sandwich ham is really good and half the price of Vons. We also got the salmon and it was great. We bought a pork tenderloin which was excellent and the whole bill was less than the (not so good) salmon at Vons by itself. Nice friendly staff, can I give them six stars? read more

If you're a hunter hoping to have an animal processed in the Bishop area, avoid The Meat House at all costs! We dropped off my wife's beautiful buck 2 weeks ago. All 4 quarters skinned and in good shape in game bags, and a sack full of loose meat with 2 backstraps in the sack (25# ish). Probably roughly 90 pounds total. She gave specific instructions to grind everything and add 10% fat to it. Also to set aside 1 of the rump roasts. We picked up yesterday and the guy came out with a very small crate of burger packages and no roast. I asked where the rest was and he said "that was it". Wife asked about the roast and he smuggly told us he ended up just grinding it...WTH? We ended up with 22- 1 pound packages of burger and nothing else. Thats 22lbs TOTAL! This was a solid 170# animal. All for the cost of $215. Never again Mike, ever. I should have listened to all of my buddies that live in Bishop and NOT went here!!! read more

While driving through Bishop CA the wifey and I saw this butcher shop on the Main Street. I asked her to immediately pull over. I went inside and ordered up a few pounds of ground chorizo, hot Italian sausage, mild Italian sausage, ground country breakfast sausage, and some ground bacon burger beef. The Meat house has a large selection of beef, pork, and seafood cuts. They even make in house fresh dog food and have fresh vegetables. The guys behind the counter were Good gand made me feel welcomed as an outsider. I wish there were more butcher shops around like The Meat house. The cuts looked awesome and if you're around Bishop CA check them out. Going inside you will be reminded of how hard working America still stands strong and does good business without the big box grocery store. So I finally got around to cooking up some of that ground breakfast county sausage!!! You know when your 6 year old tells you this is good sausage Daddy, while eating our eggs for breakfast it is Legit. The taste of the sausage had a hint of sage and was super awesome tasting even after being in our freezer approximately 6 months, I'll be back. read more

The last time I was ever at a butcher shop was as a kid in the mid 70s. I have not seen one since then other than Mexican meat markets. I have nothing against a good Mexican meat market but it was nice to be in a American butcher shop. I felt like I stepped back in time as I walked in. Very clean and well displayed. I asked for ground round and the gentleman made it fresh! All I can say I wish I lived in Bishop! The meat was excellent and prices are reasonable! Lived in Bishop for 8yrs. Have seen the Meat Market but never went in always went to vons for our meat. Never buying meat at Vons again! Walked in looking for cubed steak. Made it for us. 4 huge pieces for so much less than what we would have paid at Vons. Great customer service and quality. They'll be seeing us again. read more

We always get great service and delicious meats at this local shop. The meat in display is small, but many additional cuts are available from the back. Just ask. I often get flap steak for tacos or Korean cut beef short ribs. Tonight it's ribeye steak. And ground beef for later in the week. I think a lot of the meat is local. They staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. In addition to beef, cold cuts and a little seafood, they have a basic select of produce (avocados, onions, potatoes, tomatoes and cilantro) as well as seasoning. Lastly, they may have the cheapest lunch in town with sandwiches for $2.25. A combo with chips and soda for $3.75!!! A real classic. read more

The Meat House is an old school butcher shop located in downtown Bishop next to the Yamaha & Honda motorcycle dealer. They sell your typical farm animals, in addition to some wild game. Thursdays is your best bet for fish, as that's when the weekly delivery arrives, and that often includes sushi grade tuna (pretty good for a town of ~3,500). Additionally, you can pick up locally raised eggs, some not so exotic luncheon meats and cheese, and some limited produce items including avocados, cilantro, limes, and corn. The staff is no nonsense but helpful and the meat quality is quite good. If you don't see what you're looking for ask and they can probably get it. For everyone paying $40 a pound at Mahogony Smokehouse, lemme let ya in: the locals go here. I don't know anyone from Bishop who actually goes to Mahogany, and Bishop people know nothing if they don't know meat. Ditch the overpriced tourist stuff and get some real food. They have great sausage and preserved meat, and the rest is great barbecue material. Eggs, cheese, wild game, and great friendly staff! read more

Best meat in the valley! This is the only meat my family eats including cheese, deli meats and seafood. The hot dogs are great and are actually real meat. They don't leave the nasty film in your mouth like grocery store brands do. The bacon is the best I've ever had. Thick and delicious. This is the place to get your meat in Bishop or if you are going anywhere else in the Sierras!!!! What a hidden Gem in plain site. We stopped last year to pick up some steaks for our annual Father's day camping trip and found them prepping Roast Beef Sandwiches for the local High School Football team. We asked if we could have 2 for lunch. Meaty and very affordable. Best Roast Beef Sandwich I have ever had. We were hooked.
