A very friendly and helpful location of Vons! Really easy to navigate as well with a well-stocked selection of items. Checkout times can be long on weekends (especially if there is snow in mammoth), but otherwise really doable. Sometimes there are great deals too, just depends. "Manager" Robert S. Was rude to me in front of our daughter of four years old. We had a basket full of groceries paid for then started putting them in the basket. Robert "took charge" taking the basket. He handled my purchased items roughly dumping them on top of each other in the cart. He raised his voice at me practically accusing me of stealing the basket. Horrible customer service. Totally inappropriate in front of my four year old. One star because he did go and get us a cart from outside quotable attitude. read more

Always stop on our way to Mammoth at least once a month and have always had a good experience. Last Monday stopped in before heading up to Mammoth. Unfortunately not this time. The girl working in the deli department made me wait as she emptied chicken into the display case twice. She saw me standing there and didn't even say I will be with you in a minute. I ordered a sandwich and had a cheese roll already when I told her I wanted a regular roll. That's when the attitude started. She asked me if I wanted the bun toasted and I said no. When I got the sandwich it was cold. I asked if it was cold and she said you said you didn't want it toasted. The sandwich on the menu is said to be a hot sandwich. I asked her to warm it up and she rolled her eyes at me. The phone rang and again she made me wait. By that time my patience had reached its peak and I took the sandwich and left. Having a customer service business for 26 years I found her behavior to be very unprofessional and rude. I would not have an employee like that working for me she would be GONE! The manager Maria was in a meeting so I left a note for the her. I hope she gets a talking to about how to have better customer service skills. We will see next time if she's still there. read more

Vons as a grocery store is fine. However as others have said the customer service sucks. I had bought a rib roast this past thanksgiving and asked the butcher to cut and tie the bone for me. He was very friendly and accommodating. But the next time I got a rib roast asked a different butcher to cut and tie the bone and he flat out said no. I told him I got this done about a month ago here. He said 'next year'. I'm like wtf is that supposed to even mean? Then he laughed and said ok. I'll do it. Eff that noise. Estupido tonto. Stopped in to grab Starbucks and used their restroom. The bathroom was very clean and I'm glad we chose this as a stop, since you never know what you're going to experience when it comes to road trip restrooms. The store was clean. I ordered my Starbucks and was hoping to order food, but this location had a very limited menu. The deli counter is just across from the Starbucks so I ordered a custom sandwich on their cheesy Italian bread. It was delicious and made perfectly. My 76 year old mother and i were shopping together when we got to the register, i went to use the restroom so she was alone to pay, once i got back i notice the cashier (named robert) yelling at my mother and accusing her of stealing!!! In general, I really dislike our Vons. 1) Pretty much everything we eat is organically grown, and I've noticed that the organic produce is the last to go out, and it's sometimes very late in getting out onto the floor. 2) There are never enough check out clerks; it's as if they want to force us into the self-checkout lanes. However, I refuse to pay full-tilt retail AND do their work for them. 3) Their organic dairy products are the lowest quality available and are questionably organic (Horizon is known for skirting rules). But, this said, I just had a wonderful customer service phone interaction, where I was told to simply come in, let customer service know that I had called about having purchased some rotten packaged produce, and they would replace those sight unseen. They made my life just a little easier this Thanksgiving, and I'm deeply grateful for their prompt attention. (1 star deducted simply because I still overall dislike the store.) read more

For the most part the service is only okay. A few people who know us are very nice, but nobody goes out of their way to be friendly. The meat department not friendly, but we don't buy our meat or chicken at Von's anymore so we don't have to deal with them. The Deli service is terrible! Not friendly at all! Almost to the point where I'm afraid to ask for sliced meat or cheese, and if I do ask for something, they slice it and throw it up on the counter...no thank you or would you like anything else...nothing! C'mon now, you've been to Vons. They sell groceries and stuff. Notable for this review: this is really the only major grocery store between Lancaster and Mammoth to speak of... so if you're camping at points between, this is your spot. Big bags of ice, block ice, and a few other odds and ends (like trout fishing bait!) that they don't sell at Vons stores in places like Van Nuys and Newport Coast. Also worthy of mention: this Vons Store has a gas station with pretty good prices for a somewhat isolated little 'burg like Bishop. That's why there's a line most of the time. Finally: despite the huge parking lot, access back to 395 is somewhat limited and counterintuitive... if you're southbound, you can't turn left into the lot, and you have to cheat through Smart & Final's driveway. read more

Our daughter is getting married on May 20 and the Vons - Mammoth was unable to help with a floral order because their florist is on medical leave. They suggested I call Bishop for help. Amanda was thorough, helped me with an order and she arranged to have my order sent to the Mammoth store for pick up. She offered suggestions, followed up with me by phone and in general managed the whole thing for me. So refreshing to get this level of customer service! I stopped in here to fill up before the last leg home back to San Diego. It was early in the morning so there were no lines what so ever. Gas was very well priced for the area under $3 per gallon. The pumps were all in good working order and I had no issues. I liked that the water inside window wiper cleaner dispenser was clean and came with a good amount of cleaning solution. The container itself needed a little fixing. I went on a anti smashed bug campaign on the windshield and their fairly new good quality squeegee combined with their cleaning solution definitely did the trick. The Von's gas station offers a small convenient store that is opened 24 hours which is good news for travelers that like to travel over night. This will now be my Bishop refueling spot when I am traveling up and down the 395. I never even knew Von's had a gas station. read more

I don't even try with the Vons in Mammoth anymore, I just drive down to Bishop. Very clean, large wide aisles, well stocked, and no drama. Gasoline is one of the cheapest in the area with lots of pumps. The self-checkout stands need more quality assurance testing though. They do not handle the nuances of human use and error very well at all, and it brings down the entire machine. Scan items too quickly? Machine crashes. Very few lines during the week. read more

I don't understand why we are asked to bag our own groceries while employees just stand there. This happens all the time when we shop. Never a problem when it's busy, but the courtesy clerk just stood there at the end of a empty check stand while we were asked by the checker to bag our own groceries. If this is the case then lower your prices and then have your customers bag their own groceries!! I've always loved driving through Bishop but decided to spend a little time there. Went to Vons and was very disappointed to find that they are not enforcing the mask mandate at all. They have a sign but you walk in and half the people in there are not wearing masks. Some of the employees were wearing them but incorrectly. And I saw two employees not wearing them at all. I ask to speak to the manager to ask him about this and he (an older, larger white guy) becomes cagey as hell. He says that they really can't control anything. I tell him that most stores have an employee at the door to enforce it. He hems and haws..then he tells me that someone...maybe corporate, maybe police, told him that he doesn't have to enforce it. Yesterday when I was in the store the cashier and person bagging my groceries were sharing stories with each other about their worst smelling customers while they were checking me out. It made me so uncomfortable. I wish I would have said something but I just wanted to get out of there. This is your one-stop shop for last minute provisioning and ice before heading into Death Valley - it's Von's - you know what to expect. They have a pretty good beer selection, reasonable (though not local) produce (what would be local produce in the Eastern Sierras, anyway, shave ice?). Nice big parking lot, easy location and a gas station. Close proximity to the park so you can eat a picnic lunch and stretch your legs. Forgot something? Don't stress - Von's is open late and early! As a traveling vegan, this is a place I count on to pick up some vegan chocolate and other goodies before heading off camping. I remember going to Vons all the time as a kid. They seem to have disappeared everywhere though except for smaller towns. This Vons has fuel for you and your vehicle. Clearly it doesn't just serve the needs of the locals. The parking lot is large and has space for the largest motorhomes that are pulling a huge travel trailer. If you are heading up into the Sierras to camp, this is a good place to top off or fill up. read more

When you are the only grocery store chain in town and your main competators are 2 mom and pop markets and a small Smart and Final, you get this Vons. The corporate headquarters of Vons, Safeway, and Albertsons is well aware of the constant complaints made about this location, according to people I know working at Safeway corporate. I'm guessing that they don't care enough to do anything to fix it because they know we don't have much of a choice but to shop there. Lines are usually long. The food is 3rd in the nation in price, but not even close to 3rd in the nation in quality. It's really unfortunate. Some of the workers are great, some less so. I'd really love to change this to a 5 star review, but, sadly, I don't see it happening. read more
