I remember going to Vons all the time as a kid. They seem to have disappeared everywhere though except for smaller towns. This Vons has fuel for you and your vehicle. Clearly it doesn't just serve the needs of the locals. The parking lot is large and has space for the largest motorhomes that are pulling a huge travel trailer. If you are heading up into the Sierras to camp, this is a good place to top off or fill up. read more

When you are the only grocery store chain in town and your main competators are 2 mom and pop markets and a small Smart and Final, you get this Vons. The corporate headquarters of Vons, Safeway, and Albertsons is well aware of the constant complaints made about this location, according to people I know working at Safeway corporate. I'm guessing that they don't care enough to do anything to fix it because they know we don't have much of a choice but to shop there. Lines are usually long. The food is 3rd in the nation in price, but not even close to 3rd in the nation in quality. It's really unfortunate. Some of the workers are great, some less so. I just went to Vons on my lunch hour the checker was a manager he never once looked at me and while checking me out he was watching something at another check stand handed me my receipt and would not look at me or say something like have a nice day, mind you I have been only shopping at Vons since 1996, on the other hand when I go to Grocery Outlet in Bishop which has only been open for a few months I am always greeted by an employee while shopping, the manager Dennis always comes over when he see's me and greets me and even knows my name. The amount of condensing and entitled people in these reviews is saddening. Bashing on retail workers is just low. They are hard-working people, some people just seem to forget that they are human beings. Human beings with lives, families, and feelings. Entitled tourists who come to Bishop to cause trouble ESPECIALLY during a pandemic are the worse. This Vons is clean and well taken care of. They are friendly and helpful. We stopped at Vons in Bishop on our way to June Lake to stock up on groceries. I picked up some prepared turkey Breast and a meatloaf from the deli section. The meatloaf was burned. Both the turkey and the meatloaf were dried out. I will never buy prepared meat from a warming oven again! I should have known better but I was looking for something easy for dinner after being in the car all day. I wonder if i can get my Money back? This vons is pretty stocked and open late. If you're coming into mammoth on a Friday night and thinking about stopping by Vons in Mammoth, go here instead. Mammoth will be crazy busy and most likely low on inventory. Lines are short here, inventory stocked, and no tourism tax! This is a decently sized vons with plenty of parking. Everything is fairly clean inside and what you would expect from a vons. Save yourself a headache and stop by here first. read more

Yup, agreed w/most reviewers - it's not difficult to find & it's the only one giant full service market in the area & the only one open during the holidays, when almost all the restaurants, quick marts, etc., (rightfully so) were closed for the holidays the short time we were there. The only thing is because of it being the only decent place to find food, booze, etc - be aware that it will get slim on the pickings. If you see fresh pastries, choices in deli foods, selection of booze, (you get the jist) when you go in, make sure you stock up!!!! Or your outta luck :( Other than that, it is a nice Von's and customer service was fast, friendly and good. Big difference from the Von's employees in Mammoth who were just awful. A quick preface, I am NOT a fan of Vons AT ALL. However, I'm making an exception for several reasons, one of which isn't because of the fact that this place is (unfortunately) tucked away right at a fork in the road. So why is this place so awesome? First of all, they have a gas station. At first glance, their gas station charges just as much as every other station in town. But if you use your Vons Rewards Card, it gives you a discount. How awesome is that? Second, is the store. Unlike the Vons in Mammoth Lakes, the aisles are wide, the place is clean, and it's well stocked to serve the gringo tourists that pass by on the way to Mammoth. I didn't check prices too carefully, but I'm sure it's probably cheaper to shop here than when you get up to Mammoth. read more

I'm a climber and I have never warmed my hands in the fried chicken machine at Von's (as mentioned in the first review). Sounds like a great idea though. ;P A must for dirtbags looking to restock their supplies if you're camping at the pit or at the Buttermilks. It's a pretty modern store and they have everything you need. We bought turkey legs here and roasted them over our camp fire embers using a wire cooling rack as our grill resting precariously on some rocks. Decent selection of beer. Turkey and beer, that's all you need. Everything else is filler anyways, but you might as well get some rice pudding, chips, salsa, guacamole, soup, coffee, etc. while you're here. Difficult to find location. Not on Main Street, route 395. Their gas station is in front. Typical supermarket, typical Von's. Good deli counter as at all Von's. Clean and well organized. Friendly staff. Prices are higher than Los Angeles but you are 300 miles away! read more

This Vons is a breath of fresh air after being subjected to the one in Mammoth on a permanent basis. It's large, clean, organized, and stocked. That last one can hardly be said for Mammoth, but it's completely understandable. Mamm is in the middle of nowhere and then some. There's even a handy dandy Starbucks inside here. On one visit, they were giving out free samples of some new frappuccino in mini cups (give me mini-anything, and I will melt into a puddle. I don't know why, it just happens.). I'm normally not a fan of frappa-lacka fluffy whipped cream drizzle sugar free something drinks, but it was a boiling hot day in Bishop, so it tasted like an iceberg of pre-diabetic heaven. The gas station is also pretty cheap -- really close, if not equal to, Paiute Palace. Swipe your Vons card and save 2-cents/gal. Wahoooo! read more

I am a vacationer that uses this Vons. I'll admit to that! :) I had to come give a good rating because I'm a big coupon shopper and this Vons was more than helpful and kind about my coupons. I shopped there twice last week and left with what I needed, no hassle about my coupons and not even a headache from all the other tourists in the store! ;) P.S. Vons Bishop really needs to do something about their customer service! I live in Bishop and wish I had more options!!! I was in checkout line Noemi's line she was so busy on her cell phone could not look up to greet me. The lady in front of me had issues with her card and kept asking how much do I owe, but Noemi was too busy to reply. Vons pricing is a con. They jack up the price on most items to levels that no one in their right mind would consider, then offer you Vons savings if you use their card. The "savings" brings the price down from outrageous to merely overpriced. ...and that card that gives you those crazy savings, it tracks your every purchase. It's one of the most transparent and slimy marketing scams around. I feel dirty shopping there. If you want a real shopping experience head south down Main Street and try Joseph's. I do not know if they have a new manager or what. I have dislike our Vons in Bishop forever. However, it is worse than ever. I went in at 6;30 pm on a week night the line for the only checker (yes only one) is all the way to the back of the store and to make it worse the the checker keeps walking away from his register to help people at the self check. Right in the middle of checking a customer out just walks away. Didn't even say excuse me just a minute or I will be right back just walked away. To make bad service even worse he did this 3 different times. Then even before having to put up with that they had no canned cat food. They rarely have any diet Pepsi in the single serve bottles but tons of Coke. They meat dept. doesn't seem to keep the meats stocked very well and they milk and eggs are obviously not getting rotated. I unfortunately did not pay attention and bought out dated eggs and almost expired milk. None of the employees that worked there forever are there any longer and they seem to go through help constantly. You can try and blame the pandemic but I find it hard to believe that all the employees that worked there for a long time and through thick and thin are no longer there. I find that odd. When they do have more than one checker the majority of them seem unfriendly and lazy. They wait until the very end and ask if you need bags hoping you will bag your own, And if they have a bagger working they definitely have not been properly trained. I worked customer service for over 45 years and our Vons has some of the worse I have ever seen. Get someone in there who knows what they are doing please. Not just someone hiring friends or family or something when they do hire. read more

Bakery staff acted like they were too busy to help "people". As I was ordering my cake, I asked the girl if I could borrow a pen as I needed to write things down to pass on to our party. She said "no" I won't loan you a pen because of COVID, although she had her hands all over the order form that I WOULD soon touch. The other baker lady pulled 6 pens out of HER POCKET & let me borrow one of hers. Rude, inconsiderate, unfriendly, & unprofessional. Working with the public is not easy, but when you clock in, workers need to remember that they're to SERVE. Pro tip - stop here and not at the Vons in town in Mammoth to stock up on your condo for the weekend. It's right on the way as you cruise thru Bishop (going 25 MPH I might add so you don't get a ticket!). They are open till 1am, so even if you are late leaving LA you can stock up. It's never been crowded when I go - but granted I get there at like 10pm typically on a Friday. Also, note that they have a gas station in the parking lot and you get a nominal discount on your gas if you use a Vons Club Card. Convenient, not crowded, well stocked, cheap gas?
